We brought in two big boxes of admittedly old books that are way out of date. They only found a small stack of useable, resellable books and paid $2.70 for them. However we shopped for sci-fi and found a huge selection to choose from. They also have quite a variety of discounted 2022 calendars for sale. You can happily lose yourself in a half price bookstore for hours!

As you might expect, it is hit or miss -- and hits depend upon ones interests and tastes. A (German publishers) facsimile edition of the complete works of T H Huxley: 30 bucks. Hit. They were probably glad to get rid of it; I felt guilty for buying all eight (?) volumes for less than the price of a single new NYT best-seller, which would probably be terrible.I regret that I have never walked out empty-handed, and this digs cruelly into my Diptique budget. A good edition of Aesop leaves less wampum for Aesop. Theres some comfort in the thought that my private library will one day make an heir very happy. Maybe.One complaint only: I have more than once found a real gem that had a super sticky price tag on the dust jacket. This is never acceptable. Ever. On two occasions this circumstance has compromised the value of the book and spoiled the joy of acquisition. This happened just yesterday with an Everymans Classics volume of Leibniz -- definitely not the best in any or all possible worlds.Of the three HPBs I visit with regularity, Ive had the best luck in Plano (near Orvis). The staff there are consistently friendly, and this matters: sullen, sulky clerks ruin a shopping experience with nearly as much efficiency as plastic blister packaging that lacerates ones delicate paws -- or a super sticky price tag that rips a layer of epidermis from a gorgeous old jacket. Sales associates at the Rockwall (I30) outlet have not wowed me with cheeriness, sad to say; but perhaps they were sore a middle-aged philosopher bought the entire selection of books by Violet Paget.* And who could blame them?* I did not buy all the Violet Paget books. There were none. But Im sharing with you (HPB) a suggestion: please source books by Vernon Lee.Vale!C-P

Absolutely amazing store! Well obviously the main draw is books, they have a lot of other amazing media as well.

Great used book store, with really good prices. This is one of my favorite metroplex HPB locations. They tend to have a good rotation of stock, and the staff is very courteous.

Half Price Books is always fun. The store was very clean, well organized and the aisles cleared for social distancing. They had a greeter at the front doors which was nice. I love this location and always find something for my reading/listening entertainment. 👍

Love the place, every time we visit from El Paso 670 mile trip. The only place I am sure to visit. The atmosphere is great, the selection is great and the staff is always professional.

Half price books has a nice collection of books, DVDs, records and even tape cassettes. The price is affordable and staff is friendly. My wife and I go there frequently to buy DVDs before we travel with kids. I recommend this store.

Everytime i take my books there to sell, they always offer me less than 5 dollars eventhough those books are brand new and super popular and they sell it at the store for 19.99🤣🤣 definitely thats a rip off

Sadly they should change the name to discount books. I noticed it is no longer half priced. A 30.00 book priced at 24.00 is not half price. Very disappointed used to love shopping here.

I could get lost in this place for a whole lazy Saturday afternoon and wind up being one of Those People who end up sitting on the floor reading a book. So if you still van remember what an actual book is, this is the place for you

I know people dont read book any more but when I get tired of looking at the screen Ill pick up a good book from half price bookstore sit down and read good book expand my mind.

Staff was nice but they didnt have any of the books I was looking for, I wish it was a way to check online so you wouldnt have to waste a trip, I guess you could call ahead to confirm but who likes talking on the phone these days ( just preference I guess). However the store was neat and organized.

Easy to parkThe staff is great at helping find what you are looking for. I called ahead and they held it at the desk once. The next time I asked for help when I walked in the girl took me straight to the book. The prices are great also !

Great branch of Half Price Books! Theyve got a lot of interesting stuff in every section--their trade paperbacks area especially didnt look very picked over the last time I was there, and fiction was still chock-full of great books to pick up (more than just the usual overstock-y types of books they tend to have).I counted off a star because of the ridiculousness of Half Price Books (overall) trade-in policy. You can bring in boxes and boxes of books that are salable and current, and theyll offer you something thats almost insulting (such as $3 for over two dozen books).

Love this place and all the books are at least half price off. Great kids section too! They also have a ton of other stuff for sale like gifts, games, and music. You probably wont get a lot of money for books unless youre selling something really sought after... (like DnD books😀). The store is always clean and the employees are friendly and helpful.

Because of covid, only one person allowed per isle. The store was clean, staff was professional. Bathroom clean. Overall i give 4.5 stars since they took out the section for latin music vinyls (probably lack of stock). This is the main reason i would go there. I went last week and bought two cookbooks at fair prices.

If you cant find a book, and you vaguely describe it... a magical book fairy will come out and tell you its title or suggest an author.

Staff is friendly, like to sing by on the way home to peruse the inventory.

Great service with a very friendly and helpful staff. Answered all my questions and were polite. They went out of their way to order a couple books for me when they were very busy.

This is a great place to find books for all ages. I love coming into the store to see whats new. My only issue with the store, is that if you come in to trade books they will give you a really low ball offer. Overall this is a pretty decent store.

The prices for buying and selling are a rip-off, and the selection is better at other locations.

They dont always have what you are looking for, but there are alot of hidden gems and true to name they are usually about half off retail price when you can find them new. It is fun just browsing around looking for something good.

Half Price Book Store is addicting. Some many great books, videos, records and other things. And all at great prices. Today my 3rd time there and I had to control my spending. Also there are comics, and science projects for kids, and so much more. They also buy books. I definite place for the family. Something for everyone.

Nice place, good customer service. Just wish the would separate the DVDs from the Blu rays like the other stores.

Terrible vinyl selection. Maybe the only store in Texas that still makes you wear a mask. Enough is enough.

I highly recommend this place if youre looking for your favorite title but you dont want to spend as much as you normally would at a regular bookstore. Was able to get my hands on three books that would normally be about 18-30 bucks and ended up getting them for $5! Absolutely will visit again!

Great store with helpful, knowledgeable staff. My whole family walked out with books and DVDs this afternoon. Actually, that happens almost any time we shop there. One of the books I picked up is a British mystery. Gotta go read.

People are rude there and dont seem to care about books. I was driving around the back last week an seen them literally throwing what seemed to be hundreds of books in the dumpster and no not even the recycle dumpster either. Which Im sure they probably throw books in there as well. Kust doesnt seem right. I mean there are a number of things I could imagine they could have better use for. Just sad. Times we live in i guess.

The place in Garland for used books, music, movies, etc. I have bought and sold items here. They give a fair price for your items and of course there is no better deal on used books than here. They have a great section for young adult books. Solid section of graphic novels. Great fantasy and science fiction section.They also have a great selection of board games. They check every game they buy to assure it has all the pieces. Nice to have a half price books in the neighborhood.

Great collections of things. Music, games, books. Would definitely recommend; however selling anything to them has a GameStop issue. I sold a brand new best seller that I had had for only two weeks and never touched along with several paperbacks and only got $6.50 for it. Other than that, great and lovely people.

The store was well stocked, the staff was knowledgeable and helpful. The store is also well organized. If they do not have what you you are looking for they will call other stores to find it.

Love the place! Cant find better deals other than online, but if you pay shipping, around the same prices. Kid always finds something for her imagination and education. They dont always have the book you need and normally when they do its an older edition so if you fancy saving a few bucks normally its between a dollar or two unless its a textbook than it can be the difference of 20 or 50 dollars. Then its a good place to look around. If your just looking for books for reading its the best place there is.

Good selection, helpful staff and great prices

I do really love this location. They have books all kinds of other media to choose from and its just as good as barnes and noble and way more cheaper. I went in to look around and left with a book that has 500 different writing prompts since those are fun for me to fill in. I even asked for an application because I would enjoy working there a lot.

Although a greatbook store, their offers on used books has declined. They are not paying much for quality books.

One of my favorite stores!

Went looking for books on a few subjects...including math and introduction to basic computer skills....simple stuff. The staff was friendly and totally great...very helpful and polite. But the selection leaves much to be desired. But it is half off so i guess that goes with the territory but i was thoroughly disappointed. At least the people there are cool.

Perfect Price on books and huge selection, plus games and comics selection as well as a kids section.

So this has been my summer oasis! In 4 weeks, I have been in twice to get new books. They have a great selection and the staff is helpful and kind. They got my books in to sell in about 15 minutes and I was behind other people. I have found a great new book series just looking around and I love that I can get some older books with older covers, like Stephen King books with the old covers not the movie covers.

It was very organized and easy to find books. Great selection as well as many sections to choose from. Definitely worth the visit and will return!!

Excellent selection of music and boardgames for a used book store! Staff is helpful and friendly. I took some stuff in to sell as well today and was processed very quickly despite the large number of people in the store for the same reason.

Always fun to walk into and just look around. I typically look at their game section but prices are always much higher than just looking online or at other stores that sell retro games

Fun for the whole family. It is fun to see what is there. You can browse books, CD, DVDs, vinyl, and more. The employees have always been friendly and helpful. They will even check other locations if you are looking for something specific that is not in stock.

I always have a good time browsing here. Ive found a few real treasures among their stock and especially love the guides and practical handbooks available in the crafting section.Theyre always friendly and just busy enough that theres people milling but its not crowded.

I found what I was looking. Every visit is worth it. I bought a book on Pharmacy for only $9.99. I also check out other topic as well. I found each book very good. Employees are always ready to help you.

Love coming here to browse and find a good book to read. They dont have a catalog of what they have. Neither are their prices for them purchasing your books very fair. Its still a great alternative to buying full price, if you can hunt it down in their book shelves. Have yet to find something needed by my kids for their literature class. On the other hand, have been able to buy good reading material when I came in not looking for anything specific.

Great childrens section. Lots of fun calendars to buy and look at. The employees that man the counter where you can sell your books are very helpful. Good estimate on the amount of time it would take to get to my books.

The staff is always helpful which is wonderful because this place is organized in a way that makes it hard to find specific books sometimes. For browsing its fantastic though!
