Dropped off a pair of heads from my Honda. Timing belt had broke so I didnt know what damage there was so I took them here for a clean and inspection. I dropped them of Thursday afternoon and the guy at the counter said I would hear back from them by Friday afternoon. Well I didnt hear from them till Tuesday. I was in a hurry to get these back so I could do the job labor day weekend. They were in no hurry.First they told me that 3 valves had made contact but they were ok. Then they told me they were going to deck the heads and reassemble them. No explanation on why they needed decked. Never even told me how much they were out of spec. Then when they reassemble them they found the 3 valves were bad not good and had to order them. So I had to wait till after labor day. Waited till Wednesday afternoon of the next week to tell me they were done. So almost 2 weeks at this point. They charged me full price and more for the head gasket kit than you can get at the store off the shelf. Disappointed all around and they never even tried to make it right for messing up in the first place. Will not return or recommend them.

I had SAM machine/repair heads and a block from a dexcool ravaged 3.1 with over 200k on it.I got the completed/assembled heads along with the block, crank camshaft master rebuild kit and went to work assembling my engine.During the assembly process I ran into a few snags with fitting the camshaft as well as one exhaust stud hole repair that got overlooked on one head and they went out of their way to take care of me.Having installed my completed engine, I ran it through the break-in and became concerned with some smoking at start up. It was heavy at first but it seemed to do better and better so I let my wife drive it to work and she reported that she hadnt noticed any smoking at start up but after the first oil change I noticed that it was still smoking so I gave SAM a few calls but got no answer and no response to my messages.-Because I got no answer from SAM- I decided to have a look myself yesterday so I pulled the plugs - they all had oil/carbon on them to varying degrees so I pulled the valve covers/rockers and using a cyl pressure differential tester to pressurize the cyls I pulled the spring from cyl 1 exhaust valve and found... NO SEAL.As I continued, I found almost EVERY seal on the remaining valves, all the way to cyl. 6, ripped. (See included pictures)Never in my life have I received completed heads from a machine shop that werent ready to install an run in every respect - It didnt even occur to me that I should have to check something like that.So far, the machine work seems to have been spot on and top-notch but I cant even begin to describe my disappointment here. There was carbon build up on the pistons that actually caused noise not to mention the embarrassment of everyone in the neighborhood watching as I rebuilt this engine only to see clouds of smoke every time I started it after I rolled it out of the garage. (funny but not such a big deal)While it did occur to me to seek resolution through Stamps, I considered three things,1. They werent answering the phone - no response to my messages.(turns out the number was changed but there was no way to know)2. I was already in to it.3. Considering the kind of mistake, I wasnt excited about trusting anyone else to make this repair.Id like to point out that this happened to me, an experienced and tooled technician but good god man, if I would have had to rely on them to fix this?I mean, Ive spent a long time in the business and Ive made a few mistakes myself. It happens - no one is perfect but Cmon, valve seals? It runs great and I appreciate SAMs exceptional machine work but I can only give 3 stars - wish it could have been 5 stars.Update:I have been down to SAMs since this repair and he did say he would have taken care of this had I called but... (got no answer/response on more than 2 or 3 attempts to contact).Let me say this, if I had been behind the counter, I would have offered to pay book time for replacing valve seals. It wouldnt change my review but it would be great to be able to include a satisfactory resolution.

Came to Stamps to get some bushings and ball joints installed on a set of control arms off of a 1990 mustang. They did the job quickly for a fair price and were very friendly. Having done this sort of thing before with a c-clamp and socket wrench/impact, Im certainly glad that they saved me from that headache. Ill certainly be back!

Mr. John was about the nicest gentleman you’d ever meet. I had two motorcycle fork dampeners that needed some machine work and his excellent machinist made quick and tidy work producing excellent results. I couldn’t be more pleased and have a new shop now that I’ll always go to for my projects. Great folks! You won’t be disappointed.

I came to John with a big project and he had no problem taking it on. I had a Jeep that someone else did an engine swap on. I did not have the tools to pull the engine or put it in, and John and his team did it for me without hesitation. He was honest and transparent with me throughout the whole thing. He even allowed me to come take pictures of the car during the process (things other shops do not normally let you do) I have the car back now and it runs better than I hoped. 10/10 would recommend him and I will definitely use him again for other projects.

After getting a quote from another local shop to press out and install new wheel bearings for $250, i called around and finally spoke to John on the phone. He was very friendly and was happy to help, with a much more reasonable price point. I was able to bring it down without an appointment, and they got it done quick! He also gave me some good advice on how to finish the job I was working on. Ill be back!

Brought a cylinder head in to Stamps Auto Machine to fix my Own mistakes. They were unsure if they could help, but were willing to try. By the time they opened the following morning, I got a phone call stating they were successful in removing the tap I broke off, and it was all ready to be picked up. Super fast service, and down to earth guys.

I have never had a good experience with a machine shop. It seems like they dont care about individual customers because those customers wont bring in as much work as auto shops. Stamps went above and beyond to ensure that I had a fantastic experience with them. They did phenomenal work and it was much cheaper than I was expecting. Stamps works hard to make sure that each customer is satisfied and I applaud them for that.
