We would not recommend Kitchen Design Systems for ANY work around your home for many, many reasons. Our job was supposed to take 4-6 weeks. It was not finally completed for over 4 months. Before we signed our contract the owner, Dick, a retired contractor who started his own business, was easy to work with. However shortly thereafter the problems began. When we signed the contract we gave him the dimensions of the microwave we had purchased. He indicated that he would order the cabinets to fit. When the cabinets were put in a few months later the microwave stuck way out and we had to purchase a different one as he was not willing to solve the problem. There was also a problem with our pantry. Dick changed the design of the pantry without our approval as he thought it would be “better”. He refused to go back to the original design and we had to accept a design we did not want.Our construction was supposed to start on a Tuesday as we were out of town through Monday evening at a family event. Our older children were still at the house and we did not want the construction to start before we returned home. Dick agreed with this plan but did not inform either the dumpster person who showed up on Friday and blocked our car in the driveway as well as the flooring person who showed up on Monday morning and began ripping up the kitchen floor.The project went downhill from there. Dick was forgetful and would tell us that the workers would be there at 8 am on a given day. When they did not show up at all, he responded that he did not know where they were. This happened on multiple occasions. He would ramble during conversations and not listen to what we were saying or get to the point of his topic. At one point he totally lost it and just yelled at us. He “forgot” pieces of the work and promises he had made. It was clear to us that his workers were covering for his forgetfulnessAs part of our project we had installed a garden window. Dick knew that the window was new. Despite that fact his workers used the window as a storage spot for their tools and coffee cups damaging the paint job. We had to have the window repainted. When they finished the job they replaced the shelf in the window and scratched both the wood and the vinyl around the window. We had to have this damage repaired as well.While we like the kitchen the aggravation and extra time spent dealing with a difficult person was not worth it. There are many good kitchen contractors in the area. Find someone else to do your work and you will be much happier.
