I love The Vegetable Hunter. It’s my all-time fave vegan spot (and I used to live in NYC, where vegan options were plentiful). Although I would love to try everything on the menu I’m too obsessed with the tofu banh mi sandwich to get anything else. (It’s so good I almost finished it before taking the pic). It’s literally the most perfect sandwich. The micro-brewed beer and chickpea salad are favorites of my (meat-eating) boyfriend and the baked goods are so good you would never know they were vegan. The staff is also super friendly and kind. Infinite stars!!!
Coming from a meat eating person, everything was great. The chickpea salad is a little spicy which was a pleasant surprise, and the kale salad was amazing as well. I forgot that vegans dont eat dairy products and got halfway through my pesto grilled cheese without realizing it! Everything is fresh and delicious, thank you!
Had we known when we ordered the wait (in what appeared to be an empty restaurant) would be 45 minutes for two burgers, we would have eaten elsewhere. the ordering staff was kind and apologetic but wouldn’t budge in getting out food out any faster. i asked at 20 minutes and 30 minutes (they’re almost done making the chick’n upstairs) and finally because of a timed tour at the capitol we asked for our meal to go, and sat there on the capitol grounds “enjoying” our now cold sandwiches. 45 minutes later we got our to-go bag.maybe it was a fluke. the food was tasty but quite salty. it’s hard to leave a best review when service, especially in these times, is so much a part of the experience. we had an indoor table. but once again, as it’s been for over a year now, we ended up with massive plastic and tin foil packaging, and messed around cold food.the opportunity for something so much better was right there! a shame we didn’t get to take advantage of that.
The staff was very nice. The elderflower cocktail was quite good. I wish it came chilled or with ice though. We really enjoyed the Vanilla Cupcake and cookie. However, the rest of the food was very hit or miss for us. We really had high expectations so maybe that is part of it. My Eggplant Reuben was fine, a little too salty for my taste and the eggplant skin was super tough. It would have been nice if the sandwich was cut in half. We only were given forks. My daughter’s meal was the Pesto Mac & Cheese Pita. It was bland, edible, just not very enjoyable. Our appetizer was the Curried Dal Dip. It was also a little bland. I think for us the texture of the whipped lentils was off putting but I think others would like it. The pretzel bread was delicious. The side salads of chickpeas or kale were tasty. I don’t normally like to give less than a five star review but I want others to know what to expect because our lunch cost almost 60.00. That included one appetizer, one cocktail, two entrees and a lemonade. Not too expensive but not cheap either. Try it you might really like it. I love to support local businesses. Could have just been an off day.
Disclaimer: I really hate it when I have to give a vegan establishment a low rating. The Mac and cheese I ordered was the worst Mac and cheese Ive had by a mile and a half. It tasted like dried up macaroni and no cheese or any other flavor to speak of.The pulled pork sandwich was decent. A little too sweet for me personally.Service was alright.
Some of the best food I’ve ever had in my entire life and quick service, but the girl that took our order needs a little more guidance before she’s ready to be taking orders on her own. She got our order wrong and didn’t greet us, just stared at us even after greeting her first. Servers were unprofessional, but polite. All of the tables I saw inside were pretty dirty. Almost gave it five stars because the food made up for the rest of it.
Been coming here for YEARS. Food is bad, service is consistently terrible time and time and time again. Today I waited an hour for 2 sandwiches because they forgot our order, making this the 4th time this has happened. If this wasnt the only vegan restaurant in Harrisburg I’d probably stop coming back.
I visited Hershey, PA from CT.. I initially had a difficult time finding vegan options. This place was GREAT! I was happy to find this restaurant. The cashier was very pleasant.
Ive eaten here several times, and the food can be hit or miss, but overall Ive enjoyed most things from this establishment. I would encourage them to develop a new mac & cheese recipe because its really never been very good. Most other things are great, though!
Awesome place. So many vareity of vegan dishes, starters, main dishes and Dessert too. Fantastic vegan place, its must go where u are in the area..
I must say that The Vegetable Hunter has totally turned itself around. Ive been to the restaurant numerous times in the past and wasnt real impressed but the past few times I visited, I totally loved it! New Chef??? I went there for Mothers Day and ordered the Chicken and Waffles. The Pumpkin Waffles were to die for. Very good. Loved it. The time before I believe I had Black Bean Fajitas or something similar and they were also very good. Good job!!
The cheesesteak was amazing! They only get 3 stars because the canned beer was flat after 3 hours. It was a cool experience watching them can the beer right in front of me but not worth the $32.
The only thing worse than the food was the service! 2 members of our party waited an hour after everyone else was served. then when the food was finally served it was cold. no apology, no refund, not a single attempt to rectify the situation. This is the only establishment Ive ever ate at that made me feel as if I were a nuisance. 10/24/21
Probably one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. I am sad I went back more than once. The last time we ate here our food was very wrong and low quality. We returned to the restaurant twice to have it fixed. Manager did not want to speak to us, so they took a message promising to call back to issue refund. That was almost 3 months ago. Garbage.
Came here for a second time after having been here previously on a drive through the area two and a half years ago. I thought it was great then, and it was just as fantastic this time around. Jordan was really personable and made our little pit stop extra pleasant. Food and drinks are superb, and it was nice to hear they’re selling their kombucha in local markets now. Thanks so much!
The parts of our food that were good were really good but that’s not saying much. We got chikn sandwiches and the buns were burnt but the battered tofu was good. The chickpea salad is delicious. Cheesesteak had hardly anything inside and the eggplant reuban was more sauerkraut than anything. Staff was pretty rude and disinterested. Overall the amount of money spent was a waste and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
We just ordered from the new one in Carlisle. With a few small adjustment this place would become a very welcoming Vegan Cafe. The Kale salad was dry and came with very little dressing on it. Would have been much better if less pesto and more cheese was used on the pesto grilled cheese sandwich. Grilling the eggplant for a few minutes longer would have helped the Eggplant Rueben sandwich from being so soggy. Neither sandwich had been cut in half which made it difficult to eat. Food did taste good!! Will dine-in on my next visit instead of using delivery!!
Driving from DC to New York State, I was looking for a healthy tasty meal, which I definitely got here. Great food, and not to mention all the essentials: food, desserts, Cafe beverages, and beer for later. Come Here! All vegan too which is super nice
I absolutely love this restaurant! The food is great and the service staff was informative and kind.
I’ve been meaning to try this place for a while and I’m delighted that I finally did!I’ll be a frequent customer from this point on.Everything is awesome here!!!
This is an awesome vegan cafe, the staff is super engaging and friendly, theres a great variety to the menu and everything we had was great.Stuffed Sweet Potato, Hummus, the Isreali pita pocket, were all delicious, but the true stars of the show were the vegan mac & cheese and the Pesto grilled cheese. The Mac is the richest vegan mac & cheese Ive ever had, reminiscent of smoked Gouda and it was wonderfully creamy. The grilled cheese had amazing pesto and the cheese reminded me of Colby jack, balanced great with the tomato. It was gone pretty quickly.I also highly recommend trying the sampler of whats on tap, they are their own brewery (smallest is Harrisburg at 9 feet by 9 feet), the most interesting one I had was a jalapeño infused beer, very unique with a sharp spicy bite.
Really friendly staff. Great food. This is a hidden gem. Will be back soon!
I had the most delicious chikn sandwich I’ve ever had. The VEGAN BUFFALO BLUE CHEESE CHIKN SANDWICH is out of this world. Had a Mac on the side and a donut for dessert— a truly fantastic feast.
Visiting Pennsylvania with family and happened upon this wonderful, comfortable and inexpensive small restaurant. Great food and very personal and friendly service and atmosphere. My kids were impressed with how excellent vegan food can be.
My family and I just ate here :) No matter where we go we support/ promote a Vegan lifestyle. It was a wonderful dinner. Simple choices with great texture and flavor, very kind employees and a positive atmosphere. We would recommend this place to all.stages of Vegans..all homemade foods. 🦋🙏Peace and LoveKindness to.All.💗
Four of us went and absolutely loved it. We were visiting from out of town and were very happy to find this place online. The vegan reuben and beet salad were super tasty. But man, I wish I could have tasted everything on the menu! I also really enjoyed the decor and atmosphere. Service was great too!
I am never disappointed in this place. Its like an obsession. Im so happy theyre ours are a little bit more extended than they used to be. It would be really cool if they had a loyalty program or something like that because I know myself I order delivery from there a lot. Its always my go-to
*chef’s kiss* best buffalo chicken sandwich ever. I’ve been here a handful of times, and the food is always superb.
Found Vegetable Hunter on our trip from Toronto Canada down to Baltimore. The Food was excellent and the service was great. I would highly recommend stopping in. Spreading the word .
Another disappointment the juice needs flavor nto be sweeter the only tasty food out of our entire order was the nachos my family n I couldnt even eat the rest of the mush they gave to us. I shouldnt of gave them a tip
It’s like the food just keeps getting better! Been here multiple times & it’s just so damn good!
Unfortunately there were not many gluten free options. The only completely gluten free entre was the chana masala. I really wish I could have liked it. The chickpeas themselves were delicious however the rice was completely over cooked and dry. The kale salad side was good too. Would have really loved it if the rice was cooked correctly.
This place out did themselves; They will soon know me by name. I loved everything from the customer service to the food. I cant wait to get back tomorrow 🤣♥️
I eat at vegan restaurants all over eastern PA and Im blown away. I think this is my favorite one yet! Took a bit of time to get our food but it was 10,000x worth the wait!! Super kind, mind-blowingly tasty, and chill trippy artwork. Fun, relaxing, good vibes. The food and the brews are works of art, both visibly and on the palette. Recommend 💯
Excellent food and drinks. Im not even vegan or vegetarian, I just like a good plant based meal sometimes. But who doesnt haha. Definitely worth checking out if youre in the area.
Amazing!! SO many vegan options, and so delicious. I got the vegan protein bowl and loved it! Very filling. I cant decide whether my favorite part was the food or the atmosphere/people. Kristin is delightful, and the space is amazingly uplifting -- with a bathroom full of chalk quotes about embracing your own creativity, loving yourself and the world, embracing diversity, etc. :) And there are small sheets of paper with awesome quotes at each table, too. Just walking in made me feel so happy, seen, embraced, and loved. :) If Im ever in Harrisburg again, I plan to go back! Thank you all!!
Great food. Solid customer service. Stop on by you wont be disappointed.
The food is wonderful and so is the staff. My favorite restaurant in Harrisburg. My favorites are the nachos and the cheesesteak! Perfect for a to-go order but also a great environment if you want to dine in. I’d like it if they added more side options.
Solid vegetarian food. Very courteous staff.
The person in charge was very accommodating and considerate to our schedule; even threw in a few cookies free of charge. And the food was exquisite!
One of Thee best vegan places. Make a 45 min. drive to Harrisburg just for the food.
Really delicious vegan food and desserts, as well as friendly staff. A must stop if your in harrisburg.
Been here twice now. the service is so slow. been waiting here an hour already. and was the 2nd person to come in after the opened. food is below average.
Easily one of the best restaurants that Ive been to. I dont know how everything was so great, from the food to the music to the staff.
Stopped here on our road trip and very happy we did. Sandwiches were delicious.
Love this place! The food is awesome (Im a particular fan of the pesto mac and cheese pita and my girlfriend loves the cheese steak). Cant recommend their dinner, cookies, and jasmine lemonade enough, but I wouldnt necessarily recommend the cupcakes. All said, there isnt really a bad item on their menu and you can explore a wide variety of interesting home brewed IPAs with your meals.
Been here 3 times... always good food and a cute & cozy business location.
It is extremely hard to find Vegan meals when I am traveling this place is amazing. I called 1 hour before they closed for seating they prepared a sandwich that I had them choose
Not bad for a first time last min visit within an hr of closing. Ordered the walnut lentil burger with the chana masala with a kale and quinoa salad. The burger was definitely missing something, maybe I shouldve added a little of the chana masala in it. I ate the chana masala and salad when I got home and made quinoa to go with it. I shouldve ordered two masalas. The lavender lemonade was the best besides being a little sweet, I wish they had bigger cups for on the go. The atmosphere was chill nice people and the eating area was comfortable. Overall no complaints, I had a good time. Wish I didnt live an hr/half away.
The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the cheesesteak and Mac and cheese bowl to go and it was better than I could have imagined. So happy to finally find a great vegan restaurant option close to home!
1st time here. Been vegetarian for about 3 weeks and trying to transition to a vegan hopefully. But this place was delicious! The black bean burgers were soo good and it was an overall amazing experience here. Will definitely be back soon.😊
Delicious food, amazing and friendly staff. Will definitely come back!!!
Even if you are not vegetarian or vegan I guarantee you will enjoy a dish from this place. Restaurants take notes on your veggie options!! Superfood protein bowl and sunflower sausage sandwich are both amazing.
I cant decide if I love their nachos or their cheesesteak better - its all SO good! Everyone is super nice & friendly. One of our favorite places to order food from. Dont forget the vegan cookie :)
I’m sad, I use to really love this place but lately the food hasn’t been appetizing. First time I ordered food from them and it was really greasy and made me sick. Then recently I ordered their tofu sandwich and the tofu was hard as a brick! I couldn’t even bite through it.
One of the few vegan restaurants in the area and it did not disappoint! Can’t wait to go back
Full disclosure - I havent even been here yet. This wonderful restaurant brought us 10 protein bowls as a thank you earlier this week and Oh. My. Goodness.... SO good. Im not vegan. I love vegetables but... Not vegan. I could eat that protein bowl every single day and twice on Sunday. It was SO good! I am so excited to actually go to the restaurant! If you love your veggies... RUN. Dont walk. Trust. Me.
A nice, cozy place with good music and fresh dishes! Id come back here all the time from across the river 💜
Omg. Yes!Finally Ive found a vegan cafe that has inspired cuisine that tastes wonderful. The service was excellent, and so kind.I wish we had one in my area, I cant wait to order here again tomorrow! And the cookies are DELICIOUS, they taste like the original buttery recipe
It is so nice to go to a restaurant and be able to eat everything on the menu knowing that its all vegan and all delicious. I had the reuben- which is one of the things I miss as a vegan- and it did not disappoint. My wife had the bahn mi which was full of flavor. I think the key to a lot of their exceptional food is the quality of the breads that they start with. Definitely planning a return visit.
Love this place. Good food.
Amazing spot. Delicious food. I recommend the bahn mi, absolutely killer. Cost is low for high quality food
Very good ! Well worth the visitCheese steak was awesome
So this was my first plant based/vegan experience and I absolutely loved it. Had the cheese steak. Will definitely be going back!
This is a fantastic place to come and enjoy some down time with friends whilst kicking back listening to some tunes and chowing down on some of the best vegetarian/vegan food and drink stuffs that the Harrisburg area has to offer!!....Come out and have an amazing time, bring some friends,or have a chill self date and enjoy a bit of the R&R for a table of Im getting to know myself better and a party of one!!
A fantastic find! Loved the outside seating, sunflower sausage breakfast bagel. The nachos were as delicious as they were messy lol.
Love this place so much. Staff is so friendly and the food is soooooo good. Everything is fresh and homemade beer...YUM!
This is a hidden foodie gem! If you thought plant based would be tasteless, you better think again and try the sweet potato salad, not what you would expect and the mushroom risotto was out of this world and they made me my own special dessert! It was so well thought out and perfect, every detail. You must try this awesome food!
My friend and I stopped by the Vegetable Hunter for the first time this past Saturday afternoon. We had incredibly high expectations for this perfectly located little restaurant. The food was good, but the service was beyond-belief terrible. There were many open seats in the restaurant but the kitchen still couldn’t keep up. There were no servers so the kitchen staff was left to take orders, make drinks, and cook food. There were only about three people in the kitchen at a time which wasn’t nearly enough. We waited almost a half hour for a beer and a cocktail. It came to the point that we had to cancel our order because it was clear they forgot. If you take a chance on this place, I recommend the crab cake sandwich and mac and cheese as they were both delicious. We may come back to try the upstairs section which has a more sophisticated menu and hopefully table service. Overall, we were immensely disappointed. This place could be perfect if they took more pride in their work.
This place was amazing! I am not a vegan but Was happy to come here to accommodate my boyfriend who is. Before we went upstairs we had a couple beers and an amazing lavender sugar cookie. The upstairs menu was phenomenal. Everything was delicious and served in a timely manners our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable and we really enjoyed this place. Definitely will come back. The owner was really friendly.
THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO!!! The Vegetable Hunter knows good food! I have tried many vegan entrees from restaurants, and this one just hit the spot! Even if youre not a vegetarian or a plant based eater, this is still worth every penny and every bite. I cannot wait to go back again! DELICIOUS
Seriously amazing food! Taco bowl was absolutely delish. Stuffed sweet potato, pesto grilled cheese, and spicy mushroom soup were also really good. Everything is vegan :) but I was with non-vegans too that really enjoyed the food. Small place with only a few tables only downfall. Also serve small batch beer & a few liquor mixed drinks. Best vegan cookies Ive had for the way out.
WOW! This place is incredible. Our family visited on a snow day and had the place to ourselves. They cooked us up a feast. EVERYTHING is plant-based. The food was delicious and we cannot wait to visit again.
It’s a shame that I’m writing this because I used to love this place. I used to frequent here all the time but over the years, the quality of the food has gone downhill. The one guy who makes the food is great and it’s always presented well. But the actual food has been off. The food isn’t consistent recipe-wise, when they’re out of things, they don’t tell you and just leave it out or substitute it without telling you. The food itself tastes old every single time I go. I can’t explain it other than it tasting like it’s been sitting in a fridge for a week. I’ve gone for years so I know how it used to taste. I’ve also had food poisoning multiple times after eating here and finally chalked it up. I used to get the black bean burger and crab cake pita regularly but the texture of both vary dependent on the batch that’s made I guess. The salads are so salty now that I’m unable to eat them. Really disappointed because I used to love this place. If the freshness of food improved, I’d think about returning but until then, I’ll have to pass
The experience at this location is interesting. I arrived when there was only one other customer in this establishment. Although I was the only one, I dont feel like I received the warm and welcoming feeling that I was expecting. The restaurant itself is eclectic in a way, with random posters and artwork decorating the room. The beer I had was good, but nothing too superb. I did not have food while here.
Get the seitan hot dog--trust me!
Great staff, great food, and some of the most amazing and fresh beer you will try. Highly recommend!!!
