Was traveling through Kansas when one of my eyes began to hurt. I stopped to get gas & food in Hays, and that’s when I looked in the mirror to find a bloody looking eye. Got a motel room thinking I’d rest it for a couple of nights. However, that didn’t help - it was still bad. I looked on the internet for ophthalmologists and discovered Family Eye Care. I packed up and was in their parking lot before they opened the next morning. I was delighted they were able to work me straight in after I finished some paperwork. Dr. Mondero and his staff were very courteous & professional. After a thorough exam and a prescription, I was back on my way in an hour. Highly recommend these folks!

I am college student here in Hays and am in the health care related field for my major. Before attending any place in Hays for my annual eye check up I called around to see who would accept my insurance. They said they did. I saw them they were pleasant I paid a small chunk at the end not thinking too much about it. Well this next time just recently I went back again for my annual exam. Go to check out and owe them for the whole exam and was told my insurance doesn’t cover any of my glasses expense either. Luckily i decided against glasses and paid them since I had already received the services. This was a red flag so I double checked my insurance policy to make sure it had not changed in the new year. Definitely incorrect. Call the office and come to find out they actually don’t accept my insurance but NEVER once mentioned it to me. The lady at the front office also said “i assume everyone knows how insurance works”. This is so unethical to assume. It makes me sick and wonder how many people they have screwed over because they assume it’s common knowledge when I’m telling you it is not. The only reason I caught them was because I do know how insurance works and knew it wasn’t right. I will not be going back there. Be careful.

I switched to these guys after almost 8 years at another local eye care clinic. Within minutes of being there I felt that my experience was far more personal and appreciated than it ever felt at the other clinic. They worked great with my schedule, got me into the glasses I wanted, and have always been friendly when I’ve needed service or checkups. Check them out!

Dr. Hattan and staff were incredible! I was traveling cross country and had an unexpected problem. They were able to get me in quickly and they treated me efficiently, respectfully and kindly. If I lived in the area they would certainly be my preferred provider.

Dr.Taylor is caring and considerate. He is devoted to his profession and his patients. He explains things in an easy manner for kids and adults. His attention and patience for my kids is incredible. He has squeezed us in several times in emergency eye injury situations.

I needed special eye care while I was traveling through the area. Everyone here was caring and professional in my time of need. I highly recommend!
