OK, so here’s the deal, when I’m traveling around anywhere and I see chile rellanos ‘s on a menu I have to try it. It’s essentially my culinary litmus test! So here at the Starliner diner I have uncovered, or rather my friend Jay has uncovered and showed me the best damn Chile Riano I’ve ever had the privilege to stick in my face hole!The chef, Orlanzo, actually grows the poblano peppers for these at his home! These are a deep-fried version but it seems that they are somewhat flash fried it’s a corn batter that is crispy to perfection and not oily or greasy in the least. I also partook in the Mofongo Omelette with home fries and it was absolutely slime and every texture every flavor was separate and distinct and the smoked pepper sauce was some thing to write home about but seeing as how my mother probably wouldn’t eat it I’ll just write about it here! 100% would eat here again and probably will before I leave the Columbus area! Simply amazing! We called ahead to reserve a table for four, because we didnt know what the wait was going to be like. The girl on the phone who answered was nice and able to get us a time.Upon our arrival, the staff greeted us and took us to our table. Our waiter was extremely nice, answering all our questions. He checked back with us often, but not too often. He also kept our drinks full, which I appreciate.Once the food came, it looked and smelled delicious. I got their Creole Mac and my wife got their jambalaya. Both were excellent. Ive had their Creole Mac before, but only delivered. I thought it was good before, its just that much more amazing immediately fresh.Our waiter gave us drinks to go and everyone said bye to us as we walked out. We will be going back!
Thursday morning,I havent been since pandemic began. Nice breakfast crowd. Friendly waitress,nice and clean. I ordered breakfast quesadilla,DELISH Glad I returned 2 one of favorite place Hilliard.
Friendly staff, however judging solely off of taste. I believe its unauthentic food trying to be authentic. Everything was bland for the dishes that they had to offer. No true Cuban/Latin spices behind the flavors of the dishes. Visiting from out of town and thought based upon the amount of reviews they has I was getting something a little more unique for what Columbus has to offer.
Me and my mom went there for a quick bite before a band competition for my brother. What we were expecting was for it to not all that good, boy were we proven wrong. I got the PO boy with fries, it was soooooo good. The fries were very fluffy and the fish was cooked very well. My mom got a cheeseburger with fries and she agrees with me that the fries were amazing. Overall, it was very good. I recommend it to anyone who is in the area. Shoutout to Paul.
The food was sooo good! There is a focus on Cuban food, but they really have something for everyone. Couple of things. Portions are enormous, so you will probably have leftovers. The Jalapeno soup is amazing, and not as spicy as you might think. Get fried plantains, you wont regret it. And the prices are very very fair. Great service too! We will be back!
My wife and I were in town on business and came across this diner on Google maps. Based on the 4.7 we felt this was place worth a shot. Everything we had from the chili lime wings the specials the ropa veja (made with brisket) and the ranchero carnitas including a couple or desserts, everything was awesome!!!! From the time we walked in to the time we walked out this restaurant was on point. Food atmosphere service all excellent!!! This is a must visit spot!!!
Eating here is a feat for your taste buds and for your eyes. The decor is kitschy and interesting. The food is really good, if not a little too spicy (ask for milder spice) . The french toast is TO DIE FOR. The only thing that disappointed me was that their salads are not so much of a salad as a fajita on lettuce.
Exceptional service, cozy atmosphere, prices extremely reasonable, and good portion sizes. The food was great, and the Valentines day special was unique and quite good! We cant wait to come back and try other menu items! It didnt take long for the crowds to pick up, and you could hear others complimenting their meals all over.
Been here many times and I’m never disappointed. Consistent breakfast and the outdoor seating is good! Get the Cuban toast, you won’t be disappointed.
I can’t say enough amazing things about this restaurant. I moved away for a couple years and came back and to my surprise they were even better than before I left. There’s nothing on the menu I wouldn’t try again and again. My waitress couldn’t have been any better if I created her myself. Thank you for such a great experience.
As always the food was phenomenal and the service is always warm and friendly. Ive never had a bad experience here. Unique atmosphere, delicious food and great service. It cant be beat!
Starliner has some of the best breakfast around. But I cannot vouch for staffing and speed. Waited about 35-40 minutes on food and it was very cold. Could barley get coffee refilled without flagging somebody down.Would have been far more enjoyable if the food was hot.
I wanted to like this. I really did. Reviews seemed to good to be true and they were. Maybe it was a bad night but our appetizer came out after our main meal and my main meal which was the special of the night (cuban) was mediocre. Everything had this burnt taste that was overpowering. I only ate about 1/4 of it. Otherwise server was nice, atmosphere was cool but I shouldve just got a cheeseburger or something.
This place is Rad! Came across this after going to the Early Television Museum. Portions are huge. The staff stood out the most. The nicest group of folks. They all appear to really love their job which is so welcoming. Highly recommend!
This place was delicious! The plantains and breakfast burrito were so good! I would totally come here again if Im ever in the area. Great service.

Close but no cigar, meats are dry, plantains were greasy, fountain Coke was unpleasantly sweet. Its better than the last days of the old location, but not enough.
Always an interesting menu with a definite Cuban flavor. Service was excellent as we enjoyed the outside patio.
Great hospitality. We ordered the daily specials and each of them tasted good. There are dividers between tables but none of the staff wear masks.
A hidden gem! Not from the area but tried to find a place everyone in the family could find something they would enjoy. This was it! Jalapeno soup was delish! Definitely a fan of the Creole Mac!
The waiting time to be seated took 25 minutes despite there being multiple tables that were open but not cleaned off. After we got seated it took about 10 more minutes for the waitress to come around and take our order. After that we waited a half hour for our food, which came out wrong and soggy. The silverware we were given was dirty. After telling the waitress about what was wrong with our order, we received what was obviously the same plate but with the item we didn’t order picked out (there was still some pieces of corn - which is what we didn’t order - in the vegetables. There were dishes on tables when we left that were there when we arrived. Every time we have been here the service has been nothing but spectacular but this time lady a bad taste in our mouths, literally.
The Mofongo omelet is very good. Friendly service, very good food. I just keep going back.

Our experience at Starliner was great. It was family friendly, and the staff was very kind and patient with our 3 toddlers. We had breakfast and the food quality and quantity was quite good. The bathrooms were also very clean, with baby changing stations inside. We will be going again
They do Mexican really well. Had the lunch special with beef brisket and side of plantains. The chili rellenos appetizer is really tasty, too.
Had a lunch special of pork tacos which was excellent, with fluffy rice and black beans. The decor is pretty rustic and quirky, but the food is always good. They have a great breakfast menu too.

Always great fun at starliner diner because they have some of the funkiest decorations and the greatest meals that you can imagine. Theres a bit of a Cuban twist to the meals but please try there jambalaya or Creole macaroni because those are two of the best things on the menu.
Saw this on discover Columbus..looked good and interesting. I ordered the chilis and pizza salad..were out of both. Got the breakfast burrito and it was wonderful. 4 stars for being out of my first order.
This restaurant has great food and friendly people! The prices were very reasonable for uniquely original foods. I had sweet potato and corn tamales. They were gluten-free and delicious! Colorful local art, murals and eclectic items. Friendly management. Outside and inside dining is available.
Our party of 4 arrived, without reservations, near 1pm on saturday afternoon. They were busy and could not seat us right away. Our table was ready faster than they said (less than 15 minutes instead of 25). Our orders were delivered very quickly. The service and waitress were really good. The food was even better. A table mate ordered the French Toast. It looked absolutely amazing - and nothing like the french toast I have seen anywhere else. I wish I lived closer to enjoy it more often.
Great food but just go to Louies a mile down the road for better service and an opportunity to actually sit at a table. This is about the 3rd or 4th time we have came and are told that it is a 20-30 minute wait with open tables…there have been two instances we have tried to wait it out but don’t get a text until an hour later that our table is ready. Luckily both of those times we had already gone elsewhere.
Always great food! Dont miss ordering the Machaca or Ropa Vieja, along with the best black beans around.
While in town visiting friends I had to return to this Cuban infused establishment. The quality of the food make this iconic Hilliard a must visit in the heart of historic hilliard.
They serve breakfast all day! Delicious Cuban cuisine and some interesting takes on comfort food. I had the Machacca and my companion had the Cajun Mac & cheese. The sweet potato tamales were phenomenal!
Fresh fast clean service and wonderful waitress.Told us all about the specials.😊🍳🥔

Absolutely love this place! Ive been going here for years before they changed locations and continue to still come here whenever Im in town. The Cream of Jalapeño Soup is the best thing ever and I recommend getting the bowl, and then getting a to go order to take home for later! Always delicious food and friendly service! 😋

This is a very cool place with an interesting menu. Inside they have some awesome artwork on the walls which gives it a cool vibe. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was good. We only had breakfast but I really enjoyed my Chilaquiles (southwestern scramble) and my wife loved her Cuban Toast that came with the omelet. We are definitely going to o back and try out lunch or other breakfast items. Also we didnt get to sit on the patio and it looked very nice. Were looking forward to a nice day to go back and sit outside.
Its affordable and pretty comprehensive. Produce is always bright, fresh, and crisp! Always well stocked and maintained. Love it!
It was our first time there so I asked about a couple of things that were on the menu. She acted like she didnt know. We waited awhile for our food n when our food did come I had to send it back cause the spice was to strong. Our server was that said it doesnt have much spice. We asked about this piece of chicken she described it but couldnt name it.

We sat outside for this visit. We had a party of 4 including 2 adults and 2 six year olds. We called ahead and would recommend doing that because they get busy on the weekends. Service was prompt. They accommodated one of my kid’s special request. It’s one of our favorites so we will be back.

Came with kids for Sunday brunch, first time visit. The place was busy, but only a short wait for a table and food.Everything was tasty, they have a variety of menu items, vegetarian options, gluten-free, etc. Prices reasonable and very large portion sizes!

One of the most unique restaurants I have ever been to. The service is beyond incredible with food that is flavorful & definitely made with love. The collection of Cajun, American & Cuban influences make this a one of a kind place to visit again in the future

This was our first time coming to the Starliner Diner and we loved it! We came for breakfast with our three little kids 3 and under. They had accomodations for kids seating (booster seats and high chair). I ordered the Chiliquiles with chorizo and it was so delicious! While they dont have a kid specific menu, there were plenty of friendly kid options. We ordered strawberry pancakes for the kids and they were fluffy and so good. Our waitress was also super sweet and did a wonderful job waiting on the half of the restaurant we were sitting on herself. I will definitely be coming back to try lunch and dinner soon!

They were very busy during my visit. I got seated right away by a very friendly hostess. I sat at the bar and got served my drinks right away with a smile. Very cozy place with very cool decorations. I noticed a very large selection of spirits at the bar. It appears they have a wide selection of condiments as well. Food was fresh and delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Food and atmosphere are absolutely amazing.....the place was understaffed like everywhere else but, except for the looks on the servers faces you would never have know it....service was exceptional and we will definitely be back soon
This is a friendly, relaxed, unpretentious place! The servings are huge, artwork is varied and beautiful, the playlist keeps you on your toes (Beatles covers in Spanish are delightful) and service is personalized and super friendly. Family friendly menu with lots of kids choices, but for adventurous eaters you can never go wrong with fish Poboys, Cuban sandwiches with sides of plantain. $9 might seem like a lot for a sandwich, but it can easily feed 2 people with big appetites (see pic below, thats half of a Po Boy) also, if you order dessert, plan on sharing, because servings are huge! Just a wonderful experience! The hours are a little different, so call ahead.

Awesome selection of Cuban food! Nice new location in downtown Old Hilliard. Ample parking, still very attsy, cozy vibe inside. Recommend the tamales to start...then I always get the Cubano Sandwich. Everything I have ever had here with friends is full of flavor and a big hit with my taste buds. The peanut butter pie is a great way to finish off a meal here, if there are more then two of us, I order two slices of pie!

Consistently good food and large portions. Rich and Smokey jambalaya. Fluffy and sweet banana pancakes. Black bean nachos loaded with cheese. You really can’t go wrong here. Staff is always friendly, and takeout is fast and on time. Just remind them to include syrup on pancake deliveries.

Service was disappointing... Super nice but in way too big of a hurry to get the full order... Food was bland... Ordered carnitas on special and got some kind of pork pot roast in a sloppy tomato sauce with large undercooked peppers and onions.... Ordered the fried plantains on a friends recommendation, did not care for them and they came with some kind of spicy thin sauced coleslaw.... Ordered sweet tea and it came from a fountain machine wish we would have known that before ordering that it wasnt brewed tea... If you go for happy hour make sure you order and hope they put all your food in before 630 or like us only some of your food or drinks will be discounted...

We decided to eat breakfast here before we left and headed home. It was a very cool place. The atmosphere was fun and enjoyable. The waitress was very friendly. The food was awesome as well. We will definitely be going back there next year!!
