Kind, amazing folks. We encountered engine trouble traveling from Beaufort to Edisto Island with a planned stop at Dataw for lunch. It was a hot summer afternoon the day after my wife’s birthday and she was not happy.Kristi answered the phone when I made the “Hail Mary” call just to see if someone could look at the boat. This is in July when getting a boat into a shop before football season is basically impossible. Incredibly, she sent John over in less than 20 minutes and he was in the boat at the dock going through potential issues. He was able to get it running properly and allow us to make it home that afternoon and remain married for another day. John explained the issues clearly and suggested some preventative maintenance when we get the boat home.I can’t imagine how professional and meticulous these folks would be under normal circumstances with an appointment and time to work on a boat in their shop. I recommend them wholeheartedly.
John was at least equal to one of the best-technical guys we have had on the boat, emphasizing the professional interactions with the office staff. I would recommend any cruisers sailing between Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA, call in at the Dataw Island Marina, utilizing the services of Marine Tech Services.
People are helpful and friendly.
Great service, attentive, helpful! Excellent experience, highly recommend!
Veteran owned business that takes care of their customers and goes above and beyond!!
Not so competent at times, but very friendly and helpful when they screw up (travel lift service).
John and his team have taken loving care of my 38 sailboat for more than 5 years. They put together a preventative maintenance plan including sea trials so that Bliss is always ready to go when I am here. John has customized many suboptimal features of the boat and the work is flawless!
My biggest complaint is there are just not enough stars. MTS caught us on the wings of several storms, battered and tattered, and worked with us to get the boat repaired. They have gone above and beyond, and to say we were treated like family gives even my family too much credit--they treated us like their own children. I only hope we can get back this way again. Thank you a billion, Kristi!!
I have been in boating for over 40 years and have had my share of experience with marine service companies. Seldom have I worked with a group as responsive, easy to deal with, anxious to please their customer, and going above and beyond to ensure a great customer experience as Marine Tech Services. Did I mention theyre pricing is extremely fair and competitive? Part of what really separates them from most of the others I have dealt with was the extra effort put into the details, not having any surprises, and being very accommodating. It is my understanding they are a family owned and operated business and they make their customers feel they care about them just as they do about their family and business. It should also be noted that much of what they did for me was by long distance as I was not even here until all of the work was finished. I would recommend Marine Tech Services without hesitation or reservation. They will be my go to group for any of my boating needs.
I have used Marine Tech Services several times with success. They either have what I need in stock or get it promptly (and reasonably!). Their experienced staff has been invaluable in finding solutions to stubborn and specific problems. I rely on them with every confidence, and I recommend them to my mariner friends. Marine Tech folks are friendly, effective, and top drawer.
Exceptional Service! A few days before Christmas the oil cooler on our port engine failed. I looked for an authorized Yanmar dealer on their web site and was directed to Marine Tech Services. Despite the holidays, we got an immediate call back from Kristy, and she also had me talk with Gary, their chief mechanic. Gary and Kristy were on our boat doing an initial diagnosis within hours. Unfortunately, the Yanmar warehouse was closed during the holidays, but there are worse places to spend a couple weeks than Hilton Head Island! Kristy kept us informed with the parts delivery dates and the day after they arrived at MTS, Gary was on our boat installing them. Everything went exceptionally smooth and Gary also changed my motor zinc and drive belts before leaving. We honestly felt like we were family. I hope we do not need this type of service again (haha) but I if I do, I hope we are near Hilton Head Island and Marine Tech Services.
I have used Marine Tech for 5 years and have had great experience with all their staff. Very friendly, professional, prompt, and honest. I have a 35 Cruiser and they have also taught me many little boat tricks to keep it running properly. I would highly recommend Marine Tech for all services. Great people to deal with.
I have owned and operated boats for over 50 years. Marine Tech is hands down the finest facility I have EVER dealt with. All of the things that are important to me are done as a matter of normal business. Most of all they treat my boat like it is theirs! A#! on a scale of 1-10 they are a 17!
The crew at Marine Tech Services did a great job. I originally contracted for a bottom job, however after coming out of the water it was discovered that the keel needed to be striped and resealed. I was alerted, and advised to inspect the problem, a revised estimate was presented, and upon my approval the work was completed in a timely manner.
I recently went through a complicated and protracted purchasing process to buy a new Yanmar engine/transmission and other components. The final step was to choose a distributor to work through. I made a good choice to work with Marine Tech and am very satisfied with every aspect of the acquisition that they were responsible for. I am looking forward to completing my project with their knowledgeable help and substantial experience. They were excellent with communications and follow through.
Marine Tech worked on my boat when I purchased it and I have taken it back for other work. All work was done properly and in a timely manner. I would use them again and I do not hesitate to recommend them to may friends. They are very friendly to work with.Henry Beard
Beware of MARINE TECH SERVICES!We fled from hurricane Florence in our trawler and ended up in Hilton Head needing a generator repower. John, the owner of Marine Tech Services gave us an estimate and stated he would “treat me right”. We agreed on a price for the generator and labor. I had been forewarned of his shenanigans by two local marina harbormasters but I guess I fell for his sales pitch. A few days after giving him $20k as down payment for the generator and labor he sent out a Half Price Sale Notice via email to everyone of his customers but us! We had not taken delivery and were not scheduled for installation for weeks. I had to send an email to the VP of Northern Lights to resolve the issue with their dealer. Following the installation, Marine Tech Services tried to make up for their loss by charging almost 70 hours labor after I did most the on board installation myself! Good thing I did because after the installation their “Technician” advised me that was the first northern lights generator they had installed. Included in their billing was $120/hr each for two young mechanics helpers! I had to threaten them with my onboard camera recordings of the actual time (40 hrs) they worked to get them to back off. I am a retired Coast Guardsman/U.S Customs Criminal Investigator and after 30 years of contracting marine repairs I have never seen such questionable and creative billing practices. Maybe its just a Hilton Head mentality but buyer beware!
Remarkable experience. Super operation with great customer service. I picked up a boat in Beaufort SC and the previous owner had ordered some parts to install. Wrong parts arrived and who knows who actually ordered what part? When I called Marine Tech Kristy wasnt phased by me having a return on parts someone else ordered and payed for. She quickly found the correct part in N.J. and had it overnighted to me by 10AM the following morning on her dime. She also got additional parts sent in from GA for the next day. To top it off Gary, their Marina Technician hand delivered some additional material dispensed some technical advice and picked up the first part for return. Super fast, courteous, knowledgeable crew who will go the extra mile for you. I am in transit from Beaufort SC to Corpus Christi TX and I will use Marine Tech for all my Yanmar parts needs.
I have utilized the broad range of services from MTS since moving my 70 Hatteras to Hilton Head in 2009. They have been the primary service unit and have handled large projects (replacing entire head system) to maintenance of onboard systems to the smallest issues in a prompt and most professional manner. If you want to go on the cheap - look elsewhere and risk your boat or yacht on locals OR get your moneys worth from John and his crew.A valued member of our yachting family
I spent a month on Hilton Head and had lots of projects to do on my boat. Marine Tech had an expert for every problem I had from Air-conditioning, watermaker, generator, to hydraulics. They do it all in a timely manner with fair pricing.
Worst experience I ever had with a company. I was warned by numerous people but still let them work on my boat. DISASTER! Ask around the marina before using them.
Great service from the whole team at MTS. They know their stuff!
Marine Tech did the bottom painting on my pontoon boat and when the diver came out to clean it, he told me because of how good the bottom painting was, there was no need to clean it. Thanks Marine Tech!!
I have been using MTS for the last 2 years to maintain my boat in Palmetto Dunes. Kristy and her team are a pleasure to work with.
Christie is amazing and extremely helpful.
