This store is a mess. It smells like rotting seafood as soon as you walk in and they are never stocked properly. Products are out of place or not stocked at all. Go to ShopRite if you can.
Local store in Hoboken for people who dont drive. Has a nice selection for its size. The store is great on a hot day because its nice and cold inside from all the refrigeration. Clean and well kept, youll find something for yourself without breaking the bank. Small parking lot outside.
I like shopping at Acmethe prices are lowbetter deals than shoprite
I like this acme it has good sales for seniors and money orders and the workers treat me nice 🙂
Nice store. Clean and well stocked. Prices were very reasonable. Check out clerk was very courteous. I was very satisfied
So glad they finally put self-checkouts in this place! And the employee running them on Saturday mornings is super nice and friendly. The bakery has a huge selection. Better than most Acmes which is hard to believe considering how small of a space they have for the bakery.
I went here yesterday and I was really surprised. This was my first time shopping at this ACME. Its really clean, organized and the man at the front was really helpful. He had the patience of a saint. I keep changing my mind about my purchase and he didnt get annoyed at me. I will do more shopping at ACME.
Convenient, but consistently overpriced. It has the basics in terms of produce, but sometimes the shelves are wiped out and you have slim pickings until the staff can restock. Its in a great location and probably thrives off of the foot traffic, but otherwise it is quite overpriced and I would rather make a trip to ShopRite unless I needed one or two ingredients for something immediately.
Great place ☺️
Nice store. Pretty decent selection. Always clean. Employees are friendly and helpful.
Medium sized store with limited assortment of fresh produce, the personnel is friendly but when I bought ground meat, it was looking pink and fresh outside but inside was old gray meat. suggest not to buy fresh meats there
Pretty good, less selection than ShopRite, but usually has what I need for a quick grocery run.
Working at this store must be a tortuous experience for the employees. At no point will you find an employee who doesn’t look or act completely miserable to be there. You will find a lot of eye rolls when you have any questions or not a single second of acknowledgement when you say “have a good night”. Avoid this place like the plague and trek it down to Trader Joe’s where all products are a better quality and the people actually like working there.
Been coming here for a year. It’s good for processed/dried foods, but their produce is always bad. Most of it looks like it’s one day from spoiling. Puckering peppers, brown Brussels sprouts, etc. My husband says they have the worst bananas and won’t buy them anymore (how do you have bad bananas?) The apples have been fine. I thought the issue with the produce was seasonal but after a year I’m still underwhelmed. Go to the Aspen Marketplace for produce.
Good store. Not much else to say. Customer service desk is sometimes more focused on themselves than the customers.
It was horrible, your courtesy should explain your policy on buying cigarettes and self check out... Will not buy a thing from Acme in Hoboken 😠
Many NYC suburbs now have an Acme, particularly favor this location. See, here the aisles are easy to navigate, great specials without a specified loyalty card, well stocked shelves, and actual cashier checkout make for a smoother trip to the store. There are two circulars, a flyer and a booklet, like you see elsewhere. One piece of advice: Bring a dense sack to schlep all your good things back !
The most expensive deli Ive ever been to in 40 years. The prices are 2x the price of a normal deli anywhere else. Nobody should ever buy anything from this deli.
This is a pretty standard grocery store with a variety of products, though it is still an urban grocery store so its not huge and doesnt have EVERYTHING. The star off is because I have been severely dissapointed with everything Ive gotten from the seafood counter
No papaya. Nice cashier. I would shop there again.
I find everything I need. The staff is very helpful and nice.
Fair grocery Market. Usually prefer Trader Joes, but the proximity helps. Pretty well stocked
Do a lot of shopping in this store. Never disappoints.
My wife had band rehearsal in Hoboken. I drove her there. There was no parking anywhere. None. Zero. Nada. So I came to the Acme. I stood here for 45 minutes. I did my best not to look like a vagrant. I bought a protein bar because I was starving and the prepared food section was closed because it was 8pm on a Saturday. I suffered a minimum number of existential crises. The protein bar helped. I was not kicked out. 10/10 would Acme again.
Clean, great selection, easy to navigate and very helpful staff especially behind the deli counter and check out.
Despite the fact that this this is the place that Wille E Coyote buys all his failed roadrunner hunting gadets I entered through the magic double doors wide eyed and bewildered by all of the sweet sweet backround jams of rod stewart juxtaposed againt oppressive neon signage hoovering over the most delectable and healthy looking produce i have ever seen. Hand to god.
Overpriced. ShopRite is less expensive for better quality. However, it isnt bad and its convenient. All that said, their chopped fruit is on point.
Good products
Solid grocery store. The produce isnt anything to write home about, but affordable, and has a convenient location to most of Hoboken.
Clean and attractive with excellent fruit and vegetable sections. Great freshly made donuts and pastries. Staff are helpful and courteous
You can find what you need
Good stock of items, has parking and self checkout.
Pretty decent. The one downtown has a larger selection though.
Gloomy expensive and terrible produce.Limited selection
Their prices are extremely high but quality not very good specially in the produce sección. Also they havent been very good during the pandemiasituation.with aisles shelves completely empty for weeks. Shoprite have been very good with paper products and more availability on everything. I rather go to Shoprite although y have to go further down Union City.
Reasonable prices,fresh produce and meats
They used to have better prices... They try to cheat people with the: Buy one, get one free ($20 for a chicken tray)
Not a helpful staff
Its a wonderful place to work! I shop there as well!
Pricey for the mundane shopping experience. Employees not seem happy. Itll do for convenience.
On thursday morning may 14th me an a friend were on our morning break and decided to take a quick run to Acme not realizing the time and that it was Senior hours.... two employees one which Im assuming was a manager was very rude in telling us we could not purchase anything because it was senior hours which is fine but there was a woman on line who was about the same age as me who said the woman in charge had let her slide because it was her sons birthday and she had to purchase a few things also I saw a few people in the supermarket shopping who happened to be around the same age as me mind you Im 34. ...the thing that got me was the fact that i work in hoboken university medical center and it was clearly stated on my shirt!!!!!...I didnt expect any special treatment but honestly those two employees need to practice better people skills!!!
Whats up with all the bad reviews? Definitely not as good as shoprite or trader joes in terms of selection and prices, but when I have come here during the pandemic at non-peak hours, its been very empty and has become my go-to since shoprite started limiting its hours.
You know why supermarket and drug store ratings are so low? Because no ones gives a damn about reviewing it unless it pissed them off. This place is the best place to get a full palette of groceries in Hoboken.
I’ve been going here for a year. For management:If you had better produce I would shop here more!
Clean place good price
They have a weekly coupon that you can get by the door, free item each week
You would think bagging groceries was the easiest job to get paid for... apparently not! Would rather grocery shop at 7/11. Employees have no respect for customers. Vegetables are no good.
Not bad for Hoboken. But the storeacks some essentials.
I like to see more quality food.
For short, Not a good supermarket.First, I bought serveral times bad meat here, and that smell is really a nightmare for me.Besides, the scan price always not matches the label price. Sometimes they will give you a really huge price. When you ask why it is not the label price, they check for a long time and correct for you. It is also a bad experience when you buy something for discount and watch for the price if you do not want to lose money.
I really wish there are bulk options (grains, legumes, nuts) available! It would reduce plastic waste and reduce costs on the customer. The staff are inexperienced (and unwilling to) with dealing with customers who want to bring in their own containers. I also wished they had more organic options (organic tomatoes on the vine, fruits for example).
Never have enough registers open always a horrible check out experience
Prices are a little up there, but I love going here because its never really packed like Shoprite. Their bakery section is the bomb though, I cant even lie about that!
This midtown grocery store has everything you need. A good alternate to Surprise. Organic section YAY! Adequate free parking. Great meats/butcher section.
If they would just train the checkout people id give a better rating. Only 2 checkout people are competent and friendly.
It is a very fine acme store
Easy to get too, parking, bike lock and good prices. Get the app find sales before you go
Convenient, not the best selection in town. Quality leaves something to be desired.
Well organized
5/12-5/14: Employees are NOT following rules for face coverings. Several were wearing masks around their neck, below their chin. One cashier had his mask in his hand (!)
Great prices, nice employees
I was happy because I found some health item I couldnt get in the Shoprite. They had some good sales...but mostly their prices are higher then Shoprite..I purchased a safflower mayo and it was 2.00 more then Whole Foods. That saying something..So beware. But all and all if its convenient dont pass it up..
When ACME first took this location over, I was not too pleased. Selection wasnt great and neither were the prices. Over the past few months, I have noticed a major change. They run some really good sales. The staff goes out of their way to be helpful. They know they need to compete and they have been rising to the occasion. Its a solid alternative to Shoprite.
Fairly big. Good amount of daily needs are stocked.
Paper towel shortage, simple cleaning product and other cleaners not stocked
I used to hate on ACME, but then I was getting very frustrated by the crowds at the Hoboken ShopRite, where once there was a randomClosing of all produce, and the JC one is even worse. ACME’s prices are a little higher but in exchange you get a supermarket that is not crowded, rarely lines, and solid self checkout, plus a decent selection including organic or non-allergen foods. Can’t think of anything I haven’t found there unless you’re looking for unique items that TJ might carry. And has a large convenient parking lot and good location near Target, Best Buy, and Popeyes!
Nothing but a large convenience store.
Update:Hit or miss with the veggies.. Staff looks unhappy. I try to avoid shopping here whenever possible, even if the location is most convenient.--No logic behind how they organize their isles and shelves. They have a lot of variety in some random products and are missing variety in others.Moving around with your cart can be tricky in the veggies and condiments section (which, for some reason are together).Fish department doesnt look fresh. Shoprite does a much better job at the fish section.
Really great prices and friendly staff
Not too bad. Decent selection and prices. Meat selection is good
Went here to grab some lunch and I love the olive bar. Fresh and so oo oo good. Great selection of cheese and baked goods and the staff were very friendly and polite. I will be back!
The store is decent, clean and has most stuff you need. It could be more organized.
I like this store for two reasons. Staff is very very friendly and helpful and the prices are competitive .
Acme did away with the liquor department. I was quite impressed with the fact that several staff offered me help as I wandered around the store. I believe the Acme prices are better than A&Ps were.
Been here a few times in the past couple months. Most of the meats I buy spoils witin 2-3 days and produce doesnt last more than a week. Its good for commodities
Great, small Hoboken grocery store! A large amount of stock in a small space. Always great!
Lots of cashiers, so I never wait long in line. Very helpful seafood butcher. Well stocked.
Rotisserie chicken tend to be on small side and bit too well done. Its low key compared to shoprite which is just a traffic jam of ppl pushing shopping carts around.I come here after work for small items like greens and meat.
Prices are out of line with other supermarkets need better pricing value
Friendly woman at the deli, food was good.
Love this store.
Old lady in the Deli is beyond miserable and clearly hates her job and her life. Most of the employees will go out of their way to avoid interacting with customers, but this one especiallyUpdate: she’s still miserable
I used to like to shop at Acme until they accused me of being a shoplifter. Sometimes I would go look around before I started work, to see if there was anything I would purchase later. The afternoon manager, I dont know his name, but he resembled a run over chipmunk came over to me and in a very passive aggressive way accused me of being a shoplifter! I was so flabbergasted by such an accusation I didnt know how to react. They have security footage of me doing nothing but browsing. I recommend dont shop there, they act like their PAYING customers are criminals.
Review Update: Not only has the selection deteriorated so I stand behind my review from years ago but today I called to get information on the price for a 6ft hero for a party. The woman on the phone told me I had to come in to fill out a paper. I told her I was not ready to order but simply inquiring the price. She continued to say I had to come in. I asked, Wait. You are really going to make me drive in to look at a piece of paper to find the price? When I asked for her name she quickly said that she would have to look for the information herself and she is busy but did not give me her name. I was appalled to say the least.Existing Review: Poor selection. A&P was better.
Smaller than ShopRite so selection is limited. Theyve got the basics. Sometimes I cant find an ingredient I need, like coconut milk. Its convenient but the prices are a little higher than elsewhere. Reeses minis are 12.99 versus 10.99 at Shoprite. Good people. Mr. Mills has been a manager there for as long as I can remember.
Its clean m has great help and John the manager is a great asset to the store he always make you feel comfortable while you are in the store and shopping
What a supermarket should be, clean and always stocked. It has a nice gluten free isle. All the pet necessities needed for the Hoboken pup.A little longer wait then the shop rite lines, other wise it is a good friendly super market.
Rude staff, horrible customer service.
We used to go to Fort Lee, then Edgewater, and Weehawken Acme, moved and the Hoboken Acme is a little small, but ok.
Looking for all your food needs, this is the place to go. Many fresh baked goods an other prepared foods
Good supermarket to shop.
Employees do not respect customers. Go to shop rite, it’s four blocks down the road and employees educated and respectable cashiers.
Decent supermarket for the location. The only issue with this place is that the shelves are always empty. It gets extremely busy right after work.
I worked here for about a year. The customers were extremely nice, I always did my best to make sure everyone got what they needed. According to the work staff a.k.a. the front ends, we always didnt do our job good enough, always complaining and making us do out-of-criteria jobs, giving us no other choice, like we needed the job to live... Yeah I really need 8.38/hr to live... After working a year there what do I get as a reward, a small promotion? No a 9¢ raise.... This place is 100% awful and dont care about their customers at all, 70% of the employees act like its a high-school drama.
Good grocery store. They have a good organic section too.
Cheaper than places on Washington st for every day groceries, but doesnt have a good produce selection or price point. Only good if you dont have time to get to shoprite.
