This is one of the best old-school diners in town. The breakfast is southern comfort and is amazing. Their biscuits are warm and fluffy, their gravy is nice and thick, and their eggs are very tasty. Their breakfast meats are very good and well cured. The staff is amazing. They will welcome you with an open smile and if they identify you as a regular they will remember who you are and what you like to eat. It is a shame that places like this are dying but I’m glad the Avalon diner is going strong. Highly recommend for breakfast.

First time to this restaurant. We went for breakfast around 10am on a Friday . There was no wait but just a couple tables open and several spots at the diner counter.The place is adorable and reminded me of my younger years. The food is excellent. I had the veggie breakfast quesadilla and my husband and had the western omelet.It was super fast service but we weren’t in a hurry. The servers were very nice.We will come back here

Great experience! We arrived at lunchtime. I finally got my blue cheese burger. The banana 🍌 shake was good. The server Rodney was exceptionally knowledgeable of the menu. I didnt take pictures just missed that opportunity; will have to go back now.

Avalon diner is the goat! Sad they have closed some of their locations I used to visit but the westheimer location gives me all the high school feels. Breakfast is outstanding but so is the pile of chili cheese fries. Want something decadent? Their shakes and malts will make you need a nap ASAP.

I have been there twice now. I live in a different stste.The company has a great history. Then you get great food with great service. I love breakfast and they have it all day. Well made omelets good hashbrowns the biscuits are incredible. Gravy is well made has a little sweetness to it it is not my favorite way to have it but still very good. If you told me I had to eat would be happy to. You get large portions at a good price. They have different locations and if your near one or even across town worth trying for sure. I have only been to the one off Kirby.

Food was tasty and coffee was nice. Only took a ding since the glass of my oj has some left over food on the rim . Considering the juice was nice and cold and delicious, I didnt pursue it. Especially since they were busy

We stopped by here after having to go to the clinic a month or so back.First time and I was pretty enjoyable.Prices are a little higher, but the classic style dinner atmosphere and food is worth it.

This is a diner that serves diner food. The service was much better than places like IHOP, Dennys, and Waffle House despite being very busy. The food was good, but nothing you couldnt make on your own. Still, for the price you could do a lot worse. It is clean, fast, and has friendly service. If Im in the area, itll be my diner of choice, but if Im not, I wouldnt make a trip.

This is a place where you went as a kid and then go back as a teenager and before you know it, youre bringing your kids. Food is great, but the people are what is best.

The food was well seasoned and tasty. Portions were generous. Pricing was very fair.However, Service was quite slow but we did have a party of 8. Randy was a one man show. He made up for the longer than expected wait time.

This establishment seems to be a safe space for old white guys.Unfortunately, I always leave disappointed. The items I’ve ordered are unseasoned and the actual plate is hotter than the food.. Salt and pepper couldn’t help the poor biscuits and gravy I was served today.The fruit juice is worth the 2 stars but the food is definitely 1 star.Save $20 and just make something at home; it will be hotter than a “fresh meal” from this diner.

Orderd lunch from work, online, TO GO, on Friday. First time.Ordered 1 item, sm frito pie & tipped 30%. Specifically asked for chili to be on side, so chips didnt get soggy in transit....When food arrived, frito pie was so soggy it was just a solid mass.. ruined... because they did not honor my simple request to put chili on the side.This, to me, is worse than food tasting bad.Food couldve been amazing, I wouldnt know, they killed it long before I could try it... killed it with bad customwr service.

As one who enjoys diners, i see this Diner to be quite comfortable in terms of atmosphere. Service was at slightly inactive. Had the busser assist us more than the actual waitress. As for food, it was sub par and couldve been better in terms of seasoning and quality. My overall rating is 3.3 Stars out of 5. Decent but not my preference.

Horrible service i called in to ask if i can place an order the woman got an attitude and hung up in my face i went into the store to complain and as soon as i walked in everybody working there had an attitude ig they could see on my face who i was the manager said hed handle it but was looking at me like i was the problem because i was upset for being disrespected….ive had this place the food isnt even good like at all

I absolutely love Avalon Diner! The menu is robust, the staff is friendly, and the food comes fast. If youre ever in a situation where multiple people are struggling to pick a place, this is your place! Theres something for every one and for every meal, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.My personal favorite dish is the veggie omelet but trust me, that was a hard decision because everything Ive had has been delicious.

This diner has been a Houston favorite for decades and they still bring it. Food is good, service is good, and the decor takes you back to the 50s.Really enjoyed breakfast last Saturday. They do hashbrowns like they should be done. Coffee is great as well, because that will ruin any meal if its bad.

Probably the best chicken fried steak my wife & I have ever eaten. The hand spun milkshakes are huge! All around a great exerience.

Best diner anywhere. Id go out of my way to come here. Everything is fresh and made to order. Excellent coffee. Extremely reasonable prices. Best for breakfast but the do a full diner style lunch menu. My favorite meals are the chefs medley (like smothered coverd hashbrowns), the french toast, cajun chicken strips and the chilli. The grits are great too. I suggest trying everything on the menu at least once. They have real malts and milkshakes. The bananna is AMAZING. Everything is good. Its small, old school diner interior. Booths and tables. Just 2-3 little tables outside. Staff is usually awesome. Friendly, ontop of it and not lingering. One of my most favorite restaurants in Houston. Once you get your bill youll be surprised how inexpensive it is.

Typical 50-60s style Texas diner serving comfort food, fountain drinks and fountain ice cream treats. Previously joined to the now closed Avalon Drugstore. Good place for breakfast and lunch. Clientele is a mixture of some who have been eating there for years and their children and grandchildren. Friendly competent staff. Crowded for breakfast and lunch, never a long wait

Sorry I didn’t add photos! I moved to this side of town Dec. ‘19 and found what I thought was a nice pocket restaurant close to home and work. I was pretty happy with the food and service as I would eat here easily 2x’s per week. Unfortunately, my last visit I sat at the bar where knats flew around my food, a roach was crawling on the wall and to make matters worse I had a to go styrofoam cup I was drinking out of and I happened to look in my cup only to discover 3 bugs on the inside DEAD! I just about lost my breakfast. Never going back!

First, Super friendly folks!!! That makes it special right there. Second, the food is excellent! And I mean excellent. Everything is a favorite but the 1938 Original Hamburger w cheese and the onion rings are the best anywhere. I love the original location and have not been to the other locations so this review is only for the original local.

The food and the service were great. I had corned beef hash, eggs and pancakes and my wife had the Carmel, banana and pecan French toast. The hash was garden variety, but the pancakes and eggs were perfect. And that french toast rocked.They have a really big menu, Im looking forward to trying everything.
