My husband surprised me and took me here for date night, I’ve had this place marked on my “Want to go” list forever. It was such a fun experience getting to pick out different scents and making different combinations to make the perfect candle. I ended up making a candle using old books, rain, and spiced rum. His candle used rain and lavender. Can’t wait to start using them at home!

I took my mom and sister here for my mom’s birthday. Overall we had a good experience, in that it was fun to make our own candles. However, the service was just okay. I get that the employees have to give the same instructions over and over again, but the girl that helped us just seemed annoyed.

Very awesome experience and quite unique, too! Definitely recommend for a girls trip or anniversary or just an ordinary Saturday afternoon! In a great location of the city, too.

Super fun candle-making place. They had a deal going on for buy three get one free so we ended up making 4 candles. They also offer adult beverages and premade candles. It’s a great date night spot. Just remember to leave time for your candle to set or plan to stop back another day to pick it up.

We had a party of 8, despite having reservations, I don’t think they were ready for us Unless you plan on renting a larger space for a group, this is best for 1-6 people in the main area. Decent drink menu. Endless scents and cool vessel options. Knowledgeable staff, they were very helpful/friendly. This would be so fun for a date night or lady date. Or even just a solo activity. Our candles smelled great, they were ready on time and pickup was fast and easy. Would recommend, it’s a lot of fun.

I have seen these candles around the city and always enjoyed the scents. Never knew they had a store front until I was invited for a birthday party.I was so impressed by the whole set up! I parked on the street and Ill admit I was a little confused as to where it was, but I followed my nose! No really I smelled a lot of fragrant things and thought oh it has to be this way.All of the staff was very friendly I sat for a bit before the other members of the group showed up.You can choose from a number of different drinks which is an added plus, they have beer wine bubbles and coffee to choose from.The whole process is that you smell so many different scents and then you mix the top three. All of the scents differ, but the staff is very helpful and will let you know what you should add or anything about the process.After you find your scents you put oil into a small container once you are happy with the combination you pour it into wax and let it set. Give it 90 min come back and take your candle home! A fun activity for groups big and small. Love it and cant wait to go back and start a candle collection!

The experience was super fun! I love getting to smell all of the yummy scents they had to offer. The staff was friendly and helpful. I went with two of my roommates. When we got our candles back and burned them, one of my roommate’s candle jar shattered as she was burning it! It was a huge mess, and she paid $35 for the jar. My other roommate’s ceramic jar was cracked after burning. I didn’t want to risk having my jar shatter, so I scooped out the wax and put it in a mason jar. Disappointing quality. Also, the scent was weak when burned. Fun experience, but burn at your own risk!

I first heard of Penn & Beech from a friend who fancies herself N in the know type of person. So her opinion carries a lot of weight. She had spent an afternoon here with family and said I had to stop by.The concept of making your own candles really works well in this space. First off it smells great, the owners are quite amiable, and the space is very inviting.I ended up recommending Penn & Beech as part of my companies holiday gift options. The whole process of talking through options and order fulfillment was easy and enjoyable.Great local Indy business that I bet will do great!

10/10 recommend. PERFECT for a date night or a girls night. It’s a great experience and a great atmosphere. There are so many scents you will definitely find something you like if that’s savory or sweet floral or spicy. Especially for the experience you get the candles aren’t unreasonably priced. Candles take 90 minutes to set but can be picked up at a later date, up to 30 days I believe. Their is a beer and wine list and location is available for rent for events!!

Super fun date night idea! Be aware you dont take your candle creations home same day (wax needs time to cool). They can easily be picked up the following day, or at your earliest convenience.

Very fun night out with my friends. The staff was very sweet and patient and did a great job helping us all find our perfect scents for our candles. The candles are fairly expensive (I spent $23 for a candle that would normally be about $8) but its more of an experience and making your own scent so I understand the price. Note that it does take 1.5 hrs to set the candle after youve made it so you will want to go earlier so you can shop or eat while you wait for it to finish. They serve wine and beer and the design of the space is amazing. Perfect spot for a girls night out. Parking is difficult around there. I suggest parking somewhere on Mass Ave near 45 Degrees or over near the bottle company.

I have taken 3 teenagers to make candles twice. Each time the experience was great. We love to create our individual scents and the staff is so wonderful. Very helpful and friendly. It takes the candles 2 hours to set after you make them so make this your first stop when youre exploring the Mass Ave shops or you will have to come back to pick them up. We will definitely go back

Such poor quality!! Im shocked. We spent almost $80 on 2 candles that are basically worthless.Both candles have significant tunneling that is so wasteful (see images).I really had such high expectations for the quality of these candles, but now I cant help but think that its all just hype.Experience was not terrific either, we felt really rushed to make our candles. Not enough that I would have written a review based on the experience, but now that I have these worthless candles I feel like I should mention that as well.Really bummed because I really wanted to like this place.

Penn & Beech is everything you could want from a small business. Even after now moving to Chicago, theyre my go-to when I want to send an extra-thoughtful present. Their option to create a custom pour online is super easy to navigate. Everyone Ive sent a candle to says the same thing: I wish theyd open one where I live! Such a unique business run by kind and thoughtful people. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Im not sure if this is typical with hand poured candles but I received one as a Christmas gift. I burned it three times and each time the wick slowly kept falling closer and closer to the side of the jar until finally the flame made the glass too hot and cracked the jar. Im glad I heard it crack so I could throw it out before it completely busted everywhere.

They need better ventilation in this building. The smells overwhelm you the moment you walk in. Its hard to differentiate the scents when the air is so potent.

The candles here are great! Plus everyone is very warm and inviting. The sales associate spent a lot of time helping me pick out the right candles. Great place to go!

My boyfriend and I travelled to a B&B in Indianapolis for a relaxing weekend away. The first night we decided to walk around town and see what was around. So glad we did because we found this awesome candle shop and a wine shop right next to each other. We did a wine tasting and then made candles together. The experience was fun and the staff were very helpful!

Love love the scents! I created a scent using oven baked bread and bourbon that I can’t get enough of....so good. Great experience, fun activity for my adult son who has taken me to a few times. I would suggest it as a great team building activity for a work group, or a girls night out on Mass Ave.

This place is amazing. You can totally smell this place a mile away. There is such a wide variety of oils you will definitely make the perfect candle. Its perfect for a fun girls night out, bachelorette party, family events, or that special date night. You can order drinks as well. They are a little pricey for the amount they give you. Also, the staff isnt always friendly especially when its super busy. I feel like they just want you in make your candle and get out. Overall its such a fun place to be. If your looking for something different to do this weekend, I highly recommend this place. Make sure to make a reservation online.

Such a fun day! Gifted this to my mom and sister in law for Christmas. Took maybe an hour tops, went and shopped around and came back 2 hours later to pick up our candles. If you pay together you get buy 3 get 1 free!

Experience was ok. Our server (the person assigned to your table) seemed annoyed that we didnt order drinks. I assume this is how they make most of their money. It was early in the day and half of my friends are pregnant. Overall it was actually pretty short. I think we were only there for 30 minutes and then our candles took 2 hours to dry. Luckily they have a good location so we got something to eat on Mass Ave and walked around. They tell you you can wait or come back for your candles another time. Costs about $25 minimum to make 1 candle. When we came back to get our candles, had to wait another 10 minutes. One friend was 38 weeks pregnant and they asked her to not sit on an empty stool in case they had a walk in that needed it and then didnt offer her another one. Probably wont be back.

I was apart of a friends bachelorette party that went here. The staff was friendly, helpful, and took great care of use. We had a good experience, all of the scents were a little over whelming but making the candles was fun! We werent able to take our candles home the same day but picking them up the next day was very easy.

This was such a fun experience. I brought a group of girls for a girls day. It was definitely a lot of fun and we all enjoyed making our very own candles. We made a reservation since we had 5+ people. Plan on either eating lunch after you pour the candles or you will have to come back another day to pick it up. So many scents, it can feel overwhelming but the employees are helpful and patient.

I needed candles for my Thanksgiving tables. I knew I wanted soy candles and I found that Penn and Beech has them. I picked from their selection of already poured candles. I used very subtle scents in order to have the candles lit while eating dinner. I used White Christmas, Pistachio, and Vanilla Bean. I am so pleased with the quality of the candles and the wicks couldn’t be easier to maintain. They don’t have wires, so they can be gently pulled and the wick will be the right size for the next lighting.

Very cool candle shop and a fun place to bring a group of people. The scents are very fun and unique, and they smell great at home! The only downside that we found was that it take 90 minutes for the wax to cool after you make your candle. This would be perfect if you were planning on getting dinner in Indianapolis while you waited for you candle, and then were about to come back and pick it up. This wait time was a bit inconvenient for us, but if you planned ahead it wouldnt be a problem. Super nice staff, and a nice little wine and beer menu, with some non-alcoholic options. No food or snack options though.

This is basically my form of therapy. There’s something incredibly relaxing about picking out & blending your own scents into a candle that you can then take home. The 90 min wait time before you can take the candle also sets you up perfectly to go grab food on Mass Ave.

We visited Penn & Beech last weekend and had a fantastic time! I had made reservations for 8 people and we were seated at a table all by ourselves. The place was super busy with reservations and walk ins but the staff never appeared stressed and stayed extremely pleasant and professional throughout our visit. We all loved the chance to do something as a group while still getting the time to visit with each other. We sipped wine and mimosas, relaxed and made beautiful candles that smell unbelievable. We will definitely return to Penn & Beech for another visit in the future.

Went here for a friends bachelorette party and loved it so much I am going back for a double date in a week. It is a fun activity that isnt too expensive, fun atmosphere, and something different from the old dinner and a movie.

SO much fun!!! Such an adorable space with oodles of scent options. The staff is super helpful in setting you up and assisting with putting scents together. You will need time to let your candle harden before you can take it so plan for that!

Dont forget to supplement the fun by getting a few glasses (...or the whole bottle) of wine, mimosas, or beer!Obviously the personal candle making is the main attraction. You can choose from multiple sized vessels, diffusers, or melting wax to get that perfect experience. They have a whole wall of sents to choose from - so whether you like fruity, natural, or warm scents, you are gonna find the right combination for you. I suggest trying scents that you normally wouldnt think go together. You might surprise yourself and find something you really like that nobody else has thought of. If making your own candle isnt your thing, they also have a wall of candles with a single scent you can walk in and buy.Also make sure you say hi to my favorite employee there, Cait E. (...I might be a little biased).

I enjoyed creating our candles in Sunday. It was a nice experience and we got there just in time before it got too busy. I was excited to get home and light my candle. They smell wonderfully.On the second day (today) I lit it the glass cracked as it was burning. I would assume theyd use the correct type glass for hot candles. Not sure why it just popped mid burn. Ive only had it 4 days and lit twice. Kidda disappointed for the price you pay. Im afraid to lite it again so feels like a waste of money now.

Something different to do, overall had a pretty good experience. Honestly the biggest complaint we had was the bar stools are not comfortable to sit on at all! Prices are also a little expensive for one small candle. Undecided if I’ll go back.

Staff are amazing and making your own candle or wax melts, customized to your own scents, cant be beat. Glass of wine, close friends and family, personalized scent = epic experience!

Great place for all ages and occasions. Staff and ownership are extremely friendly and helpful. Many different scents available to make candles for men too. Will soon be getting a beer and wine liquor license to enjoy while waiting for your candle to set and be ready to take home.

Great date night experience w another couple (+/or friends). We had a blast! The process was easy, but mosrly bc the ladies working there were patient with us and great teachers. Also - bonus that they have beer, wine and champagne !!

Quite frustrating that these is not a way to speak to an individual on the phone since the online reservation section isnt actually making the reservation but putting in a request for a reservation. It states to call if it is less than 24 hrs from the requesting reservation time but you have to leave a voicemail and have to wait for a call back. I did both (online 2 days prior to leaving a voicemail) and didnt get a call back.
