Apparently like others, we enrolled in dive training here and they were quick to take our money but thats where it stopped. I have contacted them to schedule our water training via email, text, call and facebook with no response. After about a month of no response I contacted NAUI and asked them for help and they reached out to the shop located in Florida ( their other office ) and I was told someone was going to call me immediately. About 1 hour later I get a text message from someone at Bottoms Up Scuba in Florida saying I needed to come to Florida to finish my open water dives. I enrolled in Indiana because thats where we live not Florida. Bottoms Up fled with my money and no certification. After I requested a refund they no longer wanted to chat with me.

I am new to scuba. I got certified in June 2018 with Bottoms Up. I had trouble clearing my mask - the final test to receive my certification. I was discouraged and disappointed. Mike was really patient, very encouraging, and understanding. He had me not push it and come back to the next check-out class. I waited until the class was over, and did my final dive one-on-one with MIke. Needless to say, 6 months later, I have been to Cozumel twice and have over 20 dives. Mike and Bottoms Up is the best!

It is unfortunate that I have to write this review and with such a poor rating. When I first started my diving with Bottoms Up a few years ago, I was so pleased with the enthusiastic, helpful, and fun staff that lead the classes. I had a really great time doing my open water diver course. The next year, I went on to get my advanced open water certification. While I paid for and completed all the requirements, I left happy that I gained another certification. About a year after finished my AOW course I went on vacation and we went SCUBA diving. We had chosen a dive site that required AOW since we were certified, it shouldn’t have been a problem. Much to my surprise, when they looked up my PADI account, I was still only accredited the open water certification. We were very disappointed that we couldn’t do that dive.now, more Recently I’ve been trying for MONTHS to get the AOW certification added to my account and I have yet to get any reply from anyone in the shop. I am extremely frustrated at this point and even more so, disappointed that this is how they treat their customers. I have even requested them to send the documents to me and I would send them to PADI myself and I get no reply. I’ve called Mike and he pushed me off to Carlos, who, unsurprisingly, did not reply. I’ve emailed, texted, and called and have gotten nowhere. I have since moved to Florida and was excited they had a shop down here but I will never dive or certify through Bottoms Up again. It’s really unfortunate.

Based on previous experience and reputation, this company is known to employ deception for profit. Relevant details involving expenses, especially in the context of diving trips, are ambiguous and intentionally concealed. Rather than a fair division of expenses, as would be expected and as the customer is lead to believe, the customers cost is calculated to pay for the total expense of the trip including the full expense of other divers as well. Answers to detailed questions about expenses are intentionally avoided or redirected. Bottoms Up proudly celebrates high profit margins from unprincipled and unethical business practices. Through well-practiced manipulation and swindle, trusting students and customers are unwittingly fleeced of their finances. The receptive quarry are encouraged with praise and recognition and reassured with warmth and affection by their trusted leader, the one gifted with a flexible morality and recognized by the permanent grin of a shark.

I was looking forward to becoming a certified diver and I called them to join one of their weekend training programs. They charged me $437.00 for the open driver/nitrox training class billed to a real estate holdings LLC by Mike Ellis. That made me a little leery. I heard from them only once, from Zach Ellis, confirming my training day. I texted that I had to reschedule and never heard from them again, no follow-up. They still have my money and I still have no training. I had to go to another dive center for my training. You dont always get what you pay for. I sure didnt! Live and learn. Que sera!

It was my first time going into Bottoms up and I loved it!!! Such a nice laid back atmosphere. I love to learn and I went to the right place Mike and his staff are great. Not to mention friendly and Courteous. Bottoms up is so great I will be back for sure.

Everyone is so nice there, I had a problem with clearing my mask and Mike let me come to the next class session so I could go through the steps all over again. Literally the best group of people! Everyone was well read and very informative. My girlfriend and I went in just looking for information on the sport. When we left we knew Bottoms Up was going to be the place to learn from. We have never been to a place looking for a service and left completely satisfied! TERRIBLE!! DO NOT USE BOTTOMS UP SCUBA! They will scam you and make you feel bad if you catch them!! Everything was great until we went to do our practice dives. My wife and I had paid for the book, certification, and test dives in full. We passed the online exam and set up a time to do our test dive with Mike. We met Mike and a few other workers at an indoor pool to do some basic exercises. The plan was to go to a quarry right after and do the deep dive tests. While we were filling out paperwork and waivers, Mike suggests to us that since we have a cruise out of Florida coming up, why dont we fly in a day earlier and do the rest of the dives down there rather than in the cold Indy water. I looked at flights and found out they were pretty cheap to fly in just a day earlier, so we booked those flights. Mike watched us book those flights. Mike then told us to go to the shop and make sure we were in the schedule. We stopped in at the shop and talked to Clay, who then brought to our attention that since we were diving in Florida it would be an additional $600. This was NEVER talked about when we booked our flights for a day earlier. We told Clay this, and he called Mike. Mike said, Oh I never told them? Well go ahead and take off $200 for them. I told them we would not be paying that, so Clay tried to convince us to do it because it would be really cold here and that we would hate to be cold. I told him Id rather be cold than fork over $400 I was never informed about. We finally agreed on $350 total for my wife and I, but Clay went on and on about how it would be a hit to him and the company. The next day I let them know we would be cancelling our dive in Florida and we will just get certified in the summer. The airline was gracious enough to give us our money back on the flights we bought, but only because I told them that we were scammed by a company of crooks! DO NOT USE BOTTOMS UP SCUBA! They will scam you and make you feel bad if you catch them!!

Started diving with Bottoms up in September and would highly recommend them to any and everyone! So much knowledge and professionalism I am so thankful that I have been able to find a great dive shop with amazing instructors!

Bottoms Up Scuba isnt like an ordinary shop. I called Mike the owner on October 1st to price getting my open water certification we spent a good 10 minutes talking about the certification and then shipwreck diving he seems very excited to get people into the sport and he obviously loves it the way he talks about it. Actually the entire shop staff love diving they all treat you like part of the family. They dont just throw you out when you get certified they will call you and ask what you want to do next help you pick your gear. They are all amazing people and Im glad to have called them because compared to other dive shops in the area whos names I will not mention these guys and gals are second to none. I will be coming back for all of my scuba needs and hope to do some trips with you this summer the experience was great you have a customer for life thank you!

Just got my open water diver and nitrox certifications from Bottoms up scuba. Every experience I had with the team at Bottoms up was pleasant. Carlos was my instructor and he made every skill easy to learn. His patience and composure made you feel at ease through the entire experience. This is a great establishment with some wonderful people. Clay, Carlos, and Mike were all exceptional with each experience with them. This group was able to give us private lessons and work with our schedules to get our training sessions in before our trip. Hands down the BEST scuba shop. I loved my experience with Bottoms up. First of all, scuba diving doesn’t come just natural to me, when I did my lessons there were 6 people in my class, I was really hesitant and felt extremely bad for being hesitant, my instructor insured that I was fine, and helped me feel comfortable with diving. I then went on to book private lessons because of the wonderful experience I had, I feel so much better about diving now. The BEST instructors and customer service youll ever find! They were so flexible and happy to help me in any way possible. Mike and Dean are so kind and all they want is for you to have fun and be safe! I had problems with my ear during the first skills check off and Dean went out of his way to arrange another time to do it. No extra charge. Man, what a group of professional people. I sought their help several months ago as I was looking to get certified for an upcoming business trip someplace warm that I could scuba dive. Mike and Clay were both super helpful, friendly, and patient with all of my questions. My son, daughter, and I all went through their open water classes and got certified. Shortly after my work trip we had a family trip coming up to Mexico. Mike worked hard to get both my wife and other daughter into their class schedule so that they would be certified before our trip. For me it was one of my greatest experiences being able to scuba dive with my whole family in Mexico. My three children just received their open water certification. The Bottoms Up team did a great job of preparing them and calming their nerves for the open water dive. I had a great experience completing my open water dives with Bottoms Up. Price was very reasonable and all four dives were completed in just about three hours total. Mike is a fun, patient, and encouraging instructor. The dive site (Hidden Paradise) was low key and the cost to dive was just $10/day. I really enjoyed getting my certification through Bottoms Up.

My wife and I are in the process of completing the Open Water Scuba program with Bottoms Up. Mike and the other instructors are great....letting you work at your pace and making sure you learn the important skills before moving on. We cant wait to complete the Open Water Dive portion to get our certification. It s been a great experience for us after snorkeling many times but always wanting to experience the thrill of SCUBA. Very friendly, and VERY patient (which is exactly what I needed). Willing to work with you for however long it takes until you feel comfortable. Mike told me if it took 10 times in the pool for me to feel comfortable, that he would get in the pool with me 10 times! (luckily it didnt take that long) They organize lots of local trips, and also big trips out of town, just to help keep you active (and have fun) with scuba. Cant say enough good things about Bottoms Up Scuba Indy!

Amazing!!! Mike is the best. Couldn`t be happier. I had no idea who to choose when looking for an instructor for my son. I loved the name Bottoms Up and when I spoke to Mike within minutes I knew I had made the right choice. He is professional his communication is great but above all he cares about his students. My son has dyslexia and Mike knew exactly how to teach him to scuba, Joe is now working on his Advanced Diving Certificate and he intends to stay with Mike until he has his Dive Master. I never thought I would ever scuba dive in my life until my best friend took me to bottoms up scuba Indy and it has been a life changing experience. I received my open water certification from Bottoms Up Scuba Indy in June and went back this weekend with my son. It hasnt been easy to schedule my group of six including me, my husband, three adult children and one friend. Mike has been extremely accommodating and flexible. He also helped me select the right gear for our upcoming vacation dive -- taking travel and personal comfort into account.Mike and his staff provide a safe, helpful and caring learning environment. I recently completed the Open Water Diving course and the Enriched Air (Nitrox) course. I found the experience to be fun. I had some difficulty in the beginning, but my instructor Mike took the time to call me and talk through my concerns with me, encouraged me and convinced me to continue. Mike is very positive, enthusiastic and patient. It is apparent that he loves teaching.

Mike is a very good teacher and really makes sure you are comfortable especially if you are new to scuba diving, also, Dean is tacticool. Compared to other places that teach diving Bottoms Up is at the top of the mountain... or bottom of the ocean, however you want to look at it... what Im trying to say is theyre the best 😂

This place is awesome. My dad recommended me to Bottoms up. If it wasnt for this experience I wouldnt be diving in 2020 on my cruise. It was conveniently located about 3 min from his house where I did confined space. My sister will be getting her certification soon from them. The whole crew was awesome. I would recommend this place to anybody from the newbies(like me) to the more experienced. Hoping to be back soon to do advanced classes. I will be into the shop soon to get some new gear. I can’t say enough good things about bottoms up scuba. I have always wanted to dive but was nervous how I would handle it. Mike, Amber, and Jess were so patient, understanding, and calming. I had a little bit of a freak out on the first dive, but they never gave up on me and talked me through my dives and I wound up getting through the last three dives without any issue! The staff was absolutely amazing, definitely recommend!

Bottoms Up consists of a wonderful group of instructors. They take the time and energy to ensure you feel safe and secure in the water. I would not go to anyone else to learn scuba. They are the best in Indy!

Excellent instruction. I would recommend Mike to any prospective diver. His course method is approachable, easy to learn, and fun. Bottoms Up provides all the equipment youll need, so its very low hassle- just show up. You will have to commit approximately two days to get certified, which isnt terrible considering everything. Id suggest reading the course book in advance so youll breeze through the classroom portion.

Mike is a great guy and was more than willing to work with my father and Is odd schedule. We love Bottoms Up and definitely would recommend anyone to sign up with these guys! Mikes son Dean did some instructing with us as well and he was extremely helpful and courteous. These guys are professional but very personable!

Highly recommend Bottoms Up!!! Mike and his staff were very friendly and professional. I didnt know what to expect when I showed up but the class was small and everyone received individual attention. They made the whole process much easier and quicker than I expected.

My husband, two sons, and I have loved learning scuba from Mile and his team. My sons are aged 14 and 12. We have been really impressed with the attention to detail Mike and the team have given them. We are all having fun doing this as a family and are very grateful to everyone at Bottoms Up.

Mike was such a great instructor! Very personable and worked around your schedule. You never feel like you are being rushed. He takes your time with you and makes sure that you understand each step. You will always feel safe during training and he gives you that reassurance. I would recommend him to anyone!

Luke was awesome! The dives were amazing even though I was nervous going into it. He made me feel completely comfortable in the water in no time. Definitely recommend!

My sister did great on her pool work, but when we went to do our check out dives she got scared and started to panic. Her instructor Bryant calmed her down and was real patient with her. So glad I went to Bottoms up very professional I would recommend them to anyone.

Mike and his crew are very well trained and are flexible with schedules. They also take their time to ensure your safety and that you are comfortable with your training. I highly suggest you going through bottoms up when seeking out how to be a scuba diver!!

At first the owner is very nice, but then when you try to call and ask questions he doesnt give you the time of day!!!!! Instead he has his shop manager call you back. The only time he calls back is if he wants to sale you something. Dont recommend them to anyone!!!!!!!!

Incredibly easy to work with despite the hectic schedule that I had. Truly tries to make sure every one of the people passing through Bottoms Up Scuba is completely comfortable in all phases of a dive. I will definitely be going back to Bottoms Up for additional certifications and gear.

Just got open water certification this weekend. Mike is super knowledgeable and made the whole group feel at ease. The dives in the quarry were a piece of cake!! Would highly recommend Bottoms Up. Going anywhere else would be a big league mistake!!!

Had the best experience and would recommend to everyone. Im planning on going back and taking advance scuba class. The instructor is very good at explaining everything very well. He took his time and goes beyond making sure you understand. If you dont he will work with you 1 on 1 to make sure your ok. Had a great time.

I like to shop local and expect to pay a little more to build a relationship, gain knowledge, and have an expert fitting.What I found when I left Bottoms Up Scuba (with equipment in-hand) is that we were actually able to build a relationship, get a professional fitting (with a ton of options in stock) based on fit NOT the highest MSRP, and at prices less than those found online.Thanks again Mike for the time a care to make diving an enjoyable experience in and out of the water for my family!
