Always satisfied! This iconic location makes me just feel good! Love the old photos and all the young students standing in line and hanging out.
This place is amazing. Their signature concoctions are wonderful and I know we cannot find anything like this where we are from. Wish we had a place like this close to our home.
Busy place! Only 1 window open, so waited in line. Not long though. Otherwise all good.
Very good ice cream !!Very unique older style building and menu would definitely go again !!
They didn’t flip my blizzard and it was so melty 😭. It was a hot day, but still. Cool concept.
The great old ice cream that dairy Queen is known for.
Awesome oldies music and very sweet people working
Very cool old school Dairy Queen. They make their own Dilly Bars!!
A Dairy Queen of yesteryears memory.. order at one window pick up at the other.Been wanting to stop here for some time, theres just something about DQ Ice Cream.
Iconic, old style Dairy Queen along the river. Great ice cream too!
Good restaurant. They employees are very respectful
Just ok. Was around 3pm when we were there and busy. Felt very rushed to order and not clear where to get order from when ready initially. The other locations in Coralville and North Liberty are better.
They have great ice cream, blizzards, banana split, and milkshakes.
Ice cream did not taste good...??
Really wish there was a drive through, but great ice cream regardless!
A favorite. Best soft serve for generations.
Always hits the spot. Great staff and great ice cream. It’s obvious that the staff cares about their job and enjoys what they do. Can never go wrong with this location. Highly recommend for dessert.
My daughter ordered my ice cream cone and then ordered her own. Before she was done paying and ordering my ice cream was sitting on the counter melting. It took the staff an inordinate amount of time to take her order and make change. When my ice cream was delivered it was completely melted. I took it back to explain my displeasure in eating a melted mess. The young man made a complete outlandish issue of the situation explaining that it is 100 degrees out and I can’t expect anything different. Then proceeded to call me names such as “Karen” as I walked away. Their disparaging remarks could be heard by other patrons as the other two workers chimed in on the verbal insults. In my car, right in front of the building I got my daughter’s phone to answer a call. They evidently thought I was taking a video, which perhaps I should have done, because they began posing and making fun of me further. I am hurt and beyond disgusting at the deplorable “service” and verbal abuse I endured on an otherwise nice outing for an ice cream.I wouldn’t bring my worst enemy to eat anything here, and I certainly will not return. I welcome a call from the owner of this establishment for further discussion, because to have your business represented in such a manner....to have Iowa City represented like this....is a sad and disgusting manner to do business.
Super awesome icecream!+
Great Place and awesome service.😃
Best ice cream ever! They offer many different kinds of ice cream and food to eat. I recommend the banana split to try. It is amazing! Will come back sometime soon. Thanks DQ!
The kind of DQ I used to live for
Pulled up with an hour before close and had to continuously pace around the window to get the attention of the work sitting on his phone inside. I ordered a banana split, drove home and started to eat it to realize it didn’t have a banana in it, the reason I ordered this item. Called the store twice and would ring them be sent to answering machine.
Amazing ice cream with a great location. The building is still the original one from the 50s and it has a great vibe to it. The service is also quick and easy
Always a good treat on a hot summer day. Although its Dairy Queen, it doesnt have the big chain feel to it. Outside seating only work great views of the river.
Probably my most favorite DQ. They always do a great job and I love their new menu items.
Great throwback
Good and efficient.
Dreamin ice cream😭😭😭
Great ice cream
Such a great place to gather for ice cream treats. They play great music, have plenty of parking and offer free “pup cups” if your dog is with you. Adjacent to a walking/bike path along the river, in case you need to work off those calories! Keep in mind they close from November to February and during the holiday season, there are Christmas trees sold in their parking lot.
Love this little outdoor DQ by the river. They make great ice cream including the fresh (not pre-packaged) dilly bars. Nice to sit at a picnic table to eat the ice cream, then tak a walk on the trail by the river.
A small, older style walk up Dairy Queen. Great to visit for a fun outing.
Favorite place for ice cream
Usually good but this time order taker must have missed a training session. The staff person served the previous customers and, ignoring, me proceeded to converse with them about classes and how much books cost as if there wasnt another customer waiting. Proper procedure should have been to ask the friends to wait a minute while my order was taken. The staff didnt even have to fill the order, there was another staff waiting to do that. I suggested that this staff person should address the next customer promptly and the have the personal conversation after. I was met with a look of, what is he talking about? Management should be more responsible for properly training (possibly new?) staff. The ice cream was good so Ill go back!
Very good
Delicious ice cream! Yum!Cute location along the Iowa River with some benches to rest your feet and enjoy your treat. There is a bike trail right behind it as well. Easy to reach, friendly staff.
Free ice cream for the dog!
Sweet slurpees. No mask required
Yummy 😋
This is the one of the most places I love in Iowa City
I like the old vibes
Great service plus the best ice cream. 👍
Love a pack of cherry dilly bars.
Have good ice cream 🍦 and good service
This location makes the BEST Blizzards! And has GREAT customer service! Consistent 5 stars!!The other IC location could learn a lot from these guys.
The staff is always kind and helpful.
I would give less then one star if I could. I tried to purchase 15 Dilly bars to take to a work party and they would not sell that many to one person. Seriously!! It’s ice cream. Drove to Coralville where they gladly took my money in exchange for 15 bars.
Stopped in for a sweet treat.
Number oneand make my sweet treat life
A classic vintage ice cream stand that hasnt changed since the 50s. A step back in time. I have heard they use a different recipe for their ice cream mix than the modern dairy Queens around. There is definitely a difference.
I love the old DQ. The river view the music the pictures. Its all great. But 1 thing. And this is a big 1. The banana split is just not made correctly. There was not fruit. Just some sauce. There was no nuts. Thats kind of a big deal for me. I love a banana split. When asked about fixing it I was told they could not because I already had it. I was a little frustrated as I was standing at the window. Only bad thing to say about the place. I really do love this place. And have gone hundreds of times over many many years. Just wish they would put a little love into the products they hand you. Years ago you would never have gotten a banana split like this from them. But I guess thats the new way. But everything els is great.
Love it!
Love their soft ice cream! This store is open much of the year! We visit frequently.
Delicious blizzards!! Unique old building with pictures of the place years ago
Iowa City DQ has excellent Ice Cream options for anyones tastes
It real yum. I taste. My tiny wife yelled at the staff and they were cool. 10/10 would ice cream again
What else can I say, its ice cream and DQ too boot!!!
Its DQ... You know its good! Its got that old time feel. Not a full fledged store. Price is kinda high.
Parking is a little tight
The staff are laid back and courteous, as per usual ice cream shops. The location is fantastic for evening trips to stargaze and eat some soft serve.
Ice cream
Nice banana split
Great place for a cool treat in the summer heat
I love ice cream
A retro experience, this DQ has been around for more than 60 years now. Always have oldies music playing on the out door sound system. I think the menu is limited to frozen desserts, but thats what you go to DQ for right?
This is one hundred percent my favorite ic cream place. Riverside is def my fav
Great fast service. No public bathrooms only down side. If they had I would of gave them a five.
Its probably the last real Dairy queen left
Nice old timey walk up ice cream parlor. Check out the secret menu
There was a long line and 3 workers, but only one window was open. service was slow. girl in red mr misty shirt and ponytail was very rude! there are bugs in the butterscotch dip but their twist cones are okay.
Great place for ice cream, but it should be noted that this location exclusively serves ice cream, they do not serve other food items like burgers as the Google description implies.
Whole lotta bugs out there, not gonna lie🤷♂️ but good service and what not
McWane Dairy Queen is an Iowa City institution! Great product and service.
Good ice cream but not a great location
Not bad...I had a vanilla icecream cone dipped in chocolate...it was good
Delicious
Good place to have ice cream in a hot day
A nice old style ice cream place.
Favorite dairy Queen location. Great place to sit outside while enjoying quality ice cream.
Someone told me there is a lower lever in this tiny Dairy Queen- its good icecream tho
Loved their pineapple and strawberry sundae
Had the chicken bacon ranch, very good sandwich.
Everyone loves this place. Only DQ I will go to.
The staff who work here right now are fantastic. So patient and nice.
This is a classic spot for the folks of Iowa City. Anyone who has lived there for any amount of time knows it and has stories about it. Great place to take the kids!
Love this place. Old school feel
McDonalds always great
Good service & food.
Great hole-in-the-wall DQ.
I like the place but dont ever call the place if u forgot something etc, u will get some crazy lady calling or texting u back the next day threatening to call the police if u ever call the number again. Does the ice cream come with antipsychotics???? What is all that about?
Its a DQ in a retro building. Sells Xmas trees in the winter.
Parking available and picnic tables right next to the river. Note: No indoor seating and the menu is limited at this location.
Best blizzards in town by far - they really load them up!
Good stuff
Great service!
