Great food and fantastic service. We had the Sesame Seared Tuna Salad, the Blackened Haddock Po Boy, and the Fish & Chips. Everyone enjoyed their meal immensely. For dessert we shared the peanut butter pie, which was out of this world yummy and should not be missed! Our server was upbeat, friendly and attentive. Lovely outdoor seating as well as spaced seating indoors provided great options to enjoy one’s meal. This was a much needed trip off Long Island to see the gorges upstate, and Ithaca Ale House was the perfect place to relax for a hearty and tasty meal after a day outside. Highly recommended!
The burger was actually done medium as ordered...and thats rare from most burger joints (haha). The skillet wings were very unique and definitely worth trying. We didnt even have to order extra crispy but they were anyway...go figure! The service was very good. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were super attentive. The only reason why I docked them one star is the price. For a burger, skillet wings, and 2 beers each (total 4) our bill was $88 🤯
Came here for lunch with my 10 year old daughter and Ithaca College son. First, the service is absolutely excellent from the greeting at the door to the table. I dont know our servers name but she was great, fast and attentive. Perfect. The food was fantastic - burger, skillet wings and chicken sandwich - all excellent. Best lunch experience Ive had in forever. Be sure to pay them a visit - you wont be disappointed. Well done.
Very disappointed, I thought in a college town of this size, it would have a better beer selection. The bartender was very good and attentive but the beer was not cold, not warm, but you didnt want to converse after getting a fresh beer or it would be. The burger was nothing special just okay. Will definitely look for another option next time Im in town!

No comment on food as we were never seated. We were a large party of 11. Communicated we could be separated or seated one party first. Host indicated no issue and said about a 45 minute wait at 6:00 PM. No problem. Waited outside and did some shopping. At 6:45, we check in and were told a few more minutes as they were waiting for a party to leave to put tables together. Check in again at 7:15 and are now told that they cannot seat our party and we should go elsewhere. We have two younger kids and had been waiting 90 minutes for a table. All other restaurants are on an hour wait after already waiting 90 minutes (politely and offering to split from the beginning). We are told they cannot seat us and will not seat us and we should go elsewhere. No one in our party (most in the service industry) have ever experienced this level of rudeness. And there is no manager on duty on a Saturday night to address the issue. If this is how the front of the house is run, I can only imagine how they run the kitchen. It was a really disheartening end to our weekend trip. We have no desire to ever support this small business and can only wonder about the host’s actions and this restaurant’s seating policies.
You have no idea what an amazing experience we had today!!!!!! We had savana as our server and she was absolutely amazing! She knew the menu and accommodated us with our friends puppy! The food was also great and she was smiling and with a beautiful positive energy! She needs a raise and more money, we definitely will be back the next time we visit!!!! Delicious apple themed burger. Very friendly staff. Our server Josh, amazing job. Chats with his tables at just the right length, without overstaying while you eat.Reasonable prices for the size of the burger(s) you get.
Terrible service and rude employees. Was told the wait to be seated was 45 minutes. They took down our name and phone number. Almost an hour went by and no call or text. When I checked in with the host an hour later, I was told that they forgot about us and we could be seated now. We get seated all the way in the back of the restaurant, at a table that was empty the ENTIRE time since we got there. We proceed to wait an additional 15 minutes and still NO waiter or waitress comes to take our order. We left after that and NEVER plan to come back.
We waited a very long time which is understandable because they were busy. However, our server did not come to our table for 25 minutes after being seated. We had to ask the hostess to tell a server that we had yet to be waited on. The food was very good though!
If your looking for a decent burger, this is your place. Beers are great as well. Skip the pizzas, though.
Really good thick burgers here! One of my favorite places to get burgers in Ithaca! They have a big selection of local beers and some ciders on tap. It is a little on the expensive side

Stumbled into this fine establishment on a day trip to Ithaca. Started off with some beers and wings which were both top quality. Moving onto the main course I got a burger that was among the best Ive ever consumed. The service was superb and overall this is one of the best places Ive come upon in my travels. I would recommend the Ithaca Ale House to anyone looking for a great place to grab a bite and brew in the finger lakes area.

For a place as under staffed as it was the waitstaff was on pint and the bartender was superwoman!!! Great food and service. Can not complain. Will go there again.
Stopped in after a day at the falls. Reuben was so thick with meat it was almost more than you can eat! Fish and chips was great as well. Everyone at our table enjoyed the meal.
We put our name down and were told an hour wait, cool. When we came back the host said oops I forgot to text you but let me see what I can do. The next thing we know is we’re being told that the kitchen is closed and there really is nothing they can do. This is really unacceptable after having waited for the table for ages. Very disappointed.
Decided to get the Calamari - (Belgian Style White) as my appetizer, respectively one of the best Calimari dishes I have had to date. For my meal I gave the (Perfect Burger) a go and wasnt disapointed one bit. The bun was grilled perfectly, and the pickles at the bottom of the bun really brought out the Perfection with its sweet refreshing taste. I got french fries on the side and it came in a beautiful granite cup. Not to mention the food was as friendly as the service. Plan on coming here again very soon!
We had read the reviews before we visited the area and decided to give it a try. Service was great. Hubby and I both had the Fish & Chips. Best fish weve had in a restaurant sitting. We will go again when in the area.
The beer selection is limited, but decent. The pub style food was good. I had the Philly cheese steak, but I had to specify beef, not chicken. That was weird. Mostly a college crowd. I asked for a TV to be changed to a hockey game, which they eventually did. On a TV I could only see by looking over my shoulder.
This place is good for what it is - a sport bar. Found it funny that the bartender was calling servers incompetent when it was she, herself, who didnt know what a Negroni was or how to make it. That was kind of embarrassing.
Had an amazing meal, great beer selection and delicious food. A little warm on a hot day, but worth it. Had the Buffalo chicken sandwich and my date loved her French dip. Strong reccomend!
I went here a few months ago and had the perfect burger and it really was delicious. I would definitely go again and eat the same thing. My only complaint was they didn’t have sweet potato fries. It they had that then it would’ve been the perfect meal!
It is simple a must visit in Ithaca. Food, drinks, and the setting - is what its all about. Great place to come with friends or colleagues.
This is the best bar I’ve ever been to in New York. Greatest hospitality, had his mask on but still was great and positive no matter what the circumstance. You need to understand what the owners go through to keep in business during the pandemic and the owner here still makes it fun during the circumstances. Make sure to stop here, best burgers; best beers and hospitality. Make sure to stop here to have a good time!
Outstanding pub food - burgers, sandwiches, appetizers, covers everyone. The best burgers in Ithaca. Period. Dark pub atmosphere, TVs with sports. Mostly indoor seating, some outdoor tables. Great staff. Soon to relocate to a new, larger space, across the street from the current location.

We were seated, ordered, waited 15 minutes, and then we were told the kitchen was closed. But we could still order drinks. (Which were ordered 15 minutes earlier and never arrived.). Maybe the server was new, or there was poor communication, but it was obviously a bad experience, since everything else was pretty much closed after that point
Service was very good. Burgers taste like they are full of hamburger helper. They also break NYS law by adding 4% to your bill for using a credit card.
The burgers are always amazing! I make it a point to stop here every time I come to Ithaca. Our server was extremely nice and attentive; poor guy accidentally spilled an almost-empty bowl of soup on me, but it was half our fault for distracting him as he was bussing our table. Im a server as well, so I know that pain. My boyfriend and I just laughed it off. We had an amazing time and well definitely be back.

Food is very decent pub food, service is good even though they were understaffed. The corned beef on the reuben was way too thick, stringy, and dry on the edges to bite into properly( they cut the meat the wrong way lol)BUT it had great Guinness marinated flavor..The BIGGEST PROBLEM was air quality & cleanliness. The HVAC system was visibly FILTHY and had flies buzzing around the supply duct overhead🤮. As an HVAC consulting engineer, I had only ever seen this before where there was stagnant condensation in the system putrifying or some animal had crawled in the system. There was a leak in the ceiling of the ladies restroom and NO VENTILATION🤢and the floor and sink were dirty and needed attention. We were there 8/19 @3:30pm.There was a “fermented garbage smell” in the hallway leading to the ladies room. Where are the health inspectors? The LANDLORD is ruining this restaurant’s business by not maintaining the ventilation system and should be fined or brought to court especially in these covid times.It was a super humid day so the AC must be on its last leg or grossly undersized for an open kitchen layout …I can just imagine the conditions on a crowded “bar night”😷😷😷😷🤮🤭
I hadnt been to Ale House in a few years and just recently got takeout because we had a gift card. Unfortunately the prices have gone way up but the quality of the food has not. We spent $50 on a Philly cheesesteak, chicken club sandwich, and Margherita Flatbread. It was just OK, nothing great. Flatbread was the least OK of them all. Certainly not worth $13. The cheesesteak was $15 for a less than 6 inch roll filled with chopped beef, cheese and onions. Add on $1 each if you want peppers or mushrooms. Also was kind of shocked that on their build your own burger, they are charging $1 each for cheese slices and SEVEN DOLLARS for an extra burger patty...getting you to $20 for a basic burger. Sorry, we wont be coming back.

I am very disappointed in the way the management of the Ale House has decided to implement their cash discount (credit card surcharge). If this had been presented upfront, that would be manageable. However, instead, they post cash prices on their menu with small ammendment at the top and bottom of the menu. If you do not notice the fine print you are hit with the 4% increase of your bill. They are actively making more money on credit card transactions. Until September of 2020, this was illegal. After dining here, I am left with the distinct impression that the management of the establishment is using the pandemic to flece customers.This is also especially disappointing seeing as their food is great and their wait staff is exceptional. I can only assume that their staff are getting stiffed plenty of tips from people angry at this deception.
The big sexy burger was very tasteful. Definitely add the bacon for a little extra taste. The fries were some of the best fries I have ever eaten. The 6 onion soup was the best French onion soup I have ever had.

First I want to say that the service and food was excellent. I went here for dinner with my parents and my partner, and all of the staff was incredibly helpful, friendly, and attentive. However, my issue is is with their new 4% surcharge for credit and debit transactions. Its a miserly thing to do, especially since most card companies charge about 1% per transaction to businesses. It feels like they are using their customer base to finance the move to their new location, and it is especially frustrating as the text describing this is extremely small on their online menu that you need to use and view on your smartphone screen. Being up front about that policy- especially at the start of the meal when people would conceivably have time to go to an atm, would be a small step in the right direction. Currently it just seems like the management is trying to scam their customers.

Even though they were swamped, the service was great! Our server was attentive and prompt, and the place had a great atmosphere. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich and it was bomb.

The “Big Sexy” is quite literally the best burger I’ve ever eaten. We ordered to go and the food was ready pretty quickly and all of the staff were super friendly and nice when we came in to pick up. Fries were great. Onion rings were great. And, again, best burger I’ve ever had. 10/10 will 100% eat here again if I come back to Ithaca. Amazing.
Worth a visit. We choose an outside table on Memorial day. Such a beautiful city. I chose my normal Guinness, but then tried a New Holland Dragons Milk Stout. I LOVED it, such a great taste. For food, I had the Cheese steak, my wife the fish, and friends had the burger, which was enormous, and pizza. All the food was very good. The service was excellent, so five stars. We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit, and would come back again.
Absolutely great atmosphere and the food is amazing. Best burgers in Ithaca by far. I had the surf and turf burger, the ale veggie burger, and the fat kid. Crab cake was full of lump crab meat and old bay, truly a great classic rendition. The special sauce they had on the surf and turf burger made me rethink my life and I almost quit my job and apply as a chef here to find out the recipe. The veggie patty they had is a bean patty, nothing too special in my opinion. Their bun was quite something, not the stereotypical ballpark or Martins potato roll but this flavorful focaccia. Nothing to say about the fat kid burger except it truly made me feel like I could die happily obese. 10/10
A bit expensive, but a cool place inside and the food was absolutely delicious. Definitely check it out if you want a bit more upscale bar & grill experience.

This is a must stop for a casual delicious meal. Party of 6 did take an hour but that was at 6pm on a Friday night. Great timing there, I highly recommend it guys make sure to make a visit.

The food was great! Burgers were huge and delicious, onion rings were great. Justin our bartender was the best! He was the only bartender for the whole place and he was busy but did a great job filling everyones orders and was super nice and friendly to us. Will definitely come back here if Im in the area
