I went to the Racker Center because it was highly recommended after I had an unhappy experience with another audiologist in town. I was terribly disappointed by the service provided by the Racker Center and eventually returned my Otecon hearing aids. tI did this in order to be able to purchase the very same hearing aids from the Audiology Consultants. The problem was that although the model that I had bought was perfect for my needs, there was one thing wrong that needed adjustment, and the audiologist, Dr. Van Houten, refused to do that -- implying that it was impossible. The problem was that the Otecon hearing aids that I had did not cover over outside noise (e.g. in a restaurant). Dr. Van Houten my audiologist in this clinic told me me that I should just suffer the defect, and when I said that the Phonak hearing aid I had tried out elsewhere did an excellent job of covering the outside noise, Dr Van Houten told me that she was not accustomed to Phonak, but she would order me one if I wished -- but I had to determine which model I wanted, she would not (or could not) advise me. At that point I decided to go to the audiologist at Audiology Consultants for a second opinion. Upon my appointment the audiologist (Dr. McMahon) examined my hearing aid and told me that there was a number of settings that would affect covering the outside noise and those settings had not been programmed by Dr. Van Houten. She did not agree to work on hearing aids that I had bought elsewhere, and so I was constrained to return the hearing aids I had bought from Dr. Van Houten and order the exact same model from Audiology Consultants.-- John Wolff
