Poor communication and customer service. Called before I went to check on an item and was told they had “a few.” Arrived an hour later and supposedly they never had any in stock. “Sorry” is all I got with no remorse or even an offer to help order what I need (which they do do that). Last year I had MANY communication issues on one order, I should have known not to go back! Save your time!

I generally get the answers Im looking for. Today was a little different. All was ironed out and I left with a smile as is usual.

I had never been here before and had some questions about parts for an old aluminum fishing boat I have. The staff was helpful and I was able to get the information that I needed.

Stay away from this dealer! They had a sign posted for the price of each boat. Once they knew we were interested in a new pontoon, Kris (owner) decided to look up the new listing prices online for the Bennington boat. He then told us that Bennington pricing went up and he had not had time to change the sticker price. He made it clear (after a very awkward meeting with his brother while we waited) that he would not be honoring the ticket price listed on the boat itself. He then said he would invoice us another $1700 once it came in sometime in July. We walked out, completely disgusted, and drove to Grand Rapids to another dealer. We had an AMAZING experience with Halls Sports Center. They had many of the value series boats in the show room with no wait for a build for one on order! We got a tri-toon with a 115HP instead of the 50! They were great with pricing, had boats in stock, and gave us a free safety kit, and a tube. PLus they honored the price on the price tag.... Imagine that?!! Jane, I am sorry, you were so kind, your brother in law has terrible business ethics and it makes the whole place feel unfriendly and untrustworthy.

Dropped my motor off today to get service done and was treated excellent extremely awesome customer service the guy let me explain what I needed done and was very helpful wont go anywhere else keep up the great work guys

Terrible customer service. We took our pontoon is for service end of May. Our boat was at Thayer ALL summer. We were told we needed a new wiring harness because we had a deep cell marine battery and that it had melted the wiring harness. We took our boat in for service because the battery was not charging properly on our first trip out for the summer. The service manager would tell us that he would call with an update and NEVER received one call. End of August we finally got out boat back our outboard motor was not pushing water and cooling the motor properly. And the brand new battery that had been installed was completely dead. We took our boat back and was told that the woodriff key was missing so we paid for repair of the woodriff key. Once again our boat was still not pushing water and cooling the motor properly. We called the service manager Tom and we took our boat back again. We were told they would look at it the next day. 3 days later when we had not heard back we called and was told they had not looked at it until that day. When we asked why there was not really an explanation. We were told there was sand in our housing unit and would be another $300.00 for repairs. We decided we had has enough and went and picked up our boat. When we went in to get our boat and explained the situation and that we were going to take somewhere else, we got the response of well its outside go help yourself.Definitely do not and never will recommend Thayer Marine for service!! We have since had our boat repaired and the issue was the impeller unit was full of silicone. There was not and is not sand in the housing unit. Terrible customer service!!!!!!

Had our pontoon winterized and shrink wrapped. Tom couldnt have been nicer. Took less than a week and reasonably priced.

We purchased a new Bennington pontoon from Mike. He was very reasonable throughout the sales process. I was most impressed with his service and attention to detail after the sale. I highly recommend Thayer Marine.

Richie was great to work with. I purchased a boat from 1200 miles away and Richie was there through it all. Spending that much money without seeing the boat in person was scary but Richie was there for me. He answered all my questions even on nights and weekends. Richie walked me through the process and made sure all my questions were answered. Some day I hope to shake his hand and thank him in person. Thank you Thayer Marine. I love my boat. The wife is a little jealous. Well actually, alot jealous. She calls the boat my girlfriend.

My husband bought a used boat here. Thayer did all of the standard checks to ensure the boat was in working order. unfortunately we had a impeller failure/over heat condition within the first 3 minutes on the water. My husband called Michael and he had it in and even attempted to work on it that evening to try and get it back to us for our family to enjoy. They are fixing the boat in an extremely timely manner right now without more costs to us. we will be buying a new new boat next year and keeping this one up north. we will go no where else other than Thayer marine from here forward!!

I recently purchased a used 1990 Rinker from Michael at Thayer Marine. They did all the quality checks and inspections that allow without placing the boat in the water. They started it up for me and it sounded good. they cleaned the boat prior to my purchase and unfortunately within the first couple of minutes on the lake the boat went up in smoke due to what appears at this time to be an impeller failure. As a first time buyer of a used boat of course I instantly though oh man there goes a chuck of my savings and this sucks because i just received the boat. I called Thayer Marine and they said bring it on in. so I did. when i got there it was a hot day and it looked super busy because everyone was getting their boats out for the summer. They immediately helped. The parts manager was super nice and instantly diagnosed the boat shortly after Michael came out and was just the nicest guy remind you this is 10 minutes to close and he says pull it around after apologizing multiple times and says dont worry it wont cost me a thing. which some dealers say that but never follow through. Thayer Marine is the real deal honest dealer that will not screw you over they look out for there customers even on used boats that I imagine are not a large margin of profit.The following day i went in at open because I left my wallet in the boat and they had already had my boat apart (these stayed late the night before!!) trying to get it done and back to me to enjoy. I plan to buy a new boat for torch lake next summer and all my future boat purchases moving forward will only be with Thayer marine. This is what excellent customer service means and they have strongly built a local residence life long business!! so i wan to say Thank you Thayer marine for being an honest and well organized business!!-Jacob Magner

I had an experience last week that sums up my decade old experience with Thayer Marine. I was in after frying a $200 part on my outboard motor. I spoke with the parts guy (Jon) and asked how long it would be for a replacement part to come in. He said a few days. Given it was a Friday, he seemed to know I was looking forward to using my boat that weekend. He took the part off of his personal outboard and lent it to me, with a battery, until the part came in and didnt think twice about it. I was thrilled to do those evening cruises that my wife and I have become accustomed to as recent empty-nesters. Thanks Thayer and Jon!

They are wonderful people that work there. And always have what i need or will get it for me in a day or two.i bought a raft from them in 1998 and it still looks like new.

Overall my experience has been good; except for today. My brand new pontoon stopped working this weekend so I went in to schedule repairs. I walked in someone was already being helped at the desk so I wondered around that part of the store. Ten minutes go by and I still havent been acknowledged when another person walks in and gets help within 30 seconds of his arrival. Finally someone receives ( one of the owning brothers) me but wont acknowledge that Im upset about my treatment and keeps interrupting me. When tell him to let me finish he then tells me to get out of his store because he doesnt know me ( his sister Candy sold us the boat, shes awsome and all the good will she built has vanished). When I drop over $25,000 at your store I expect better treatment then that. Why should I spend another dime in that place? So, boats broke, get bad customer service and get told to leave when you bring it up. Very upsetting.

I was in need of a repair to my outboard, and was in a rush to get it done before I left on vacation. They were incredibly accommodating, got it done on time, and for a fair price. Highly recommend!

Dealt with Kris. Bought our starcraft deck boat last year. Not only did we receive a great price but there was no pressure. Thayer took the time to explain how our boat operated. Later we had an issue with the sink and they stepped up and took care of it for us. We are going back to get our boat fitted with a trolling motor with batteries installed. Only if you’re on their good side, where ever that is. Damaged my boat all three times they’ve touched it. Have to chase down service and communication for them to fix their issues. Oil on the seat on drop off, damaged toon after winter storage. This last time (repairing damaged toon end of season) is a tear/shredded seat and sneakers marks all about the seat cushions. Yes, stuff happens, but every time....so exhausted chasing down true customer service after $60k spent. I guess it’s their way of saying they have enough customers and/or don’t buy a new Bennington. Try Devil’s lake, all my neighbors say they’re great. I have $5 bet with my neighbor, this will get the same response as all other bad reviews, it’s not their fault and my experience is wrong.
