Good books and good people! I made a random selection off the shelf, and the cashier had already read the book and enjoyed it. Always encouraging to visit a store where the staff love reading as much as the patrons!

Amazing local book store! Such a large collection, even have authors come in for signings! You can find so much here. Only thing is they dont stock any foreign language books besides travel guides or if you find an author whose work is translated to English.An amazing place to go!

Great atmosphere and helpful staff. Ive been going here since I was a kid and thankfully it hasnt changed much, if at all, in over 20 years. I love that they highlight Mississippi authors and history, offer signed first editions, and have a little bit of everything in terms of genres. Lemuria is by far the best book store in Jackson. Their customer service is on point and they have a well-curated selection of classics, local authors, and latest hits. For the big-time book lover they also have a First Edition club and they regularly host signings (and virtual events!)

This charming bookstore made me want to quit my job and just read full time without any interruptions. So inspiring! It’s beautiful and wonderfully laid out. The team is cool and super knowledgeable about books in general and of course the inventory of the store. What really made me happy was a shelf reserved for Shirley Jackson’s work. Whatta treat! Walked out with some great books and will definitely be back the next time I pass through Jackson, MS.

Loved the layout of this shop. Lots of local works too. The only negative thing Id say is that most of the staff is teenage girls who loudly gossip about workers not present while I was trying to browse.

Fantastic online service!My signed book shipped almost immediately and arrived super quickly in a nicely hand-packaged (very secure) bundle. I put a note in the order asking for a bookmark from their shop as a keepsake and they included three so I know that they read the note and put the thought in. Plus it’s a neat bookmark!If I’m ever down in Jackson, I’ll be sure to stop by Lemuria!

This is a rare, genuine, enchanted destination! Although Jackson has many reasons to visit (MS Farmers Mkt, Mustard Seed, Apothecary), visiting Jackson for Lemuria alone would be worth it! Its the kind of bookstore you wish was in every city and town. My husband and I make sure to shop and purchase every time we are in town from New Orleans. Bravo, Lemuria! Thank you for existing!!

Great vibe to this store. Not to mention the employees know when to leave you alone and let you browse their selection. This is a place you will feel like you can go to and just sit and read and not be hassled by the employees about anything. Some may not find this as a good thing but I personally believe knowing when to leave a customer alone is an amazing trait. Not everyone wants to be bombarded the while they are trying to find the right book for them.

Incredible store. The vibe here is cozy and authentic, improved too by the knowledgeable staff. Their poetry section might also be the best in the state. A wall, ceiling to floor, of poetry books and collections! Awesome, awesome stuff.

I travel a lot for work, and one of my long-standing habits is to look for local bookstores wherever I happen to be. I was in Jackson several months ago. For whatever reason, I didnt expect to find much. I guess it is because I am from a smaller Southern town myself, and know these are not typically the places one finds great bookstores. I decided to stop by Lemuria. Long story short...this might be the coolest bookstore I have ever browsed. The location, atmosphere, and store architecture are all very unique (you dont really catch this from the pictures). It is also quite large for an independent. But what really astounded me was the selection. I saw books on the shelf at Lemuria that I have never seen inside a bookstore. Lemuria is a good 4 hours or so from my home, but if I ever have an empty day to kill, I would drive back to just to visit this place. I would say Lemuria and Aunties Bookstore in Spokane, WA are my favorite bookstores right now. And trust me, I have been to a few bookstores.

A book lovers paradise! Knowledgeable staff, huge selection, and an enjoyable atmosphere. We bought 3 books and spent about an hour there. Highly recommend during a trip to Jackson!

A lovely local bookstore. The staff are knowledgeable and attentive (but will also leave you alone to browse). They highlight a nice selection of local authors. Their children’s section is the real selling point for me though - it’s diverse and they carry many unique titles.

This bookstore has a friendly and attentive staff and an excellent selection. You can walk around and find classic and contemporary fiction, histories, biographies, and just about everything else. The colors of the walls and furniture and the high bookshelves make the experience one that always gives your eye something else to see. It’s definitely worth a stop to buy a book and check out information about upcoming events.

I bought a book here which referenced this book store as the second best in the state. I hadnt been to the first best, but lemuria must have some stiff competition not to take the cake. There are all sorts of books here, with all sorts of categories. Its the type of bookstore that inspires you to find more books.

A great place to take your kids if they love to read. We used to live in the Bay and I would go here all the time. I took my daughter there and got her 5 books and spent only 18 bucks.

This books store is huge and fantastic. Floor to ceiling bookshelves are filled to the brim with books. The store has plenty of pleasant nooks and crannies. Its splendid and I love it. One of my favorite places on Earth.

I discovered Lemuria in 2008 and visit it every time I am in Mississippi, which is 3-4 times a year. Fortunately. I love books and bookstores and always seek out the independents. Lemuria is, by far, my favorite in the US. I have been a member of the First Editions Club and now have a fabulous collection. The staff, the atmosphere, the service, the inventory, are exceptional!

Lemuria is a great local book store. It carries a good variety of product. The customer service is good. The prices are acceptable but can sometimes be a little higher than some other stores because they are a smaller book store.

One of the best bookstores iv ever been too. Helpful and knowledgeable workers. LOTS of books and great coffee just downstairs to read and have a coffee. Really enjoy comin here on the weekends

Lemuria is one of the best indie bookstores in the nation! Its always on my go to list when I visit Jackson -- and was a big part of my college years there. Its a treasure for the city. And easy to order any book (if by some chance Lemuria doesnt already have it!) through them rather than go to some anonymous mega site like Amazon.

This is a fantastic bookstore! Wonderful setting, INCREDIBLE STAFF, great selection. We stop in once a year while traveling to our from visiting the Gulf Coast. The trip would feel hollow without a stop at Lemuria.

When the area has been very helpful to get hard to find items in the past. Theyre friendly and courteous.

What a delight to find this treasure here in Jackson. I love bookstores and this one will not disappoint my fellow book huggers. I walked in and was greeted immediately and offered assistance. The furnishing in the store allows you to take your time to look over and sit down with a book. The choice of Mississpi & Louisiana authors, I have not found anything close to their selection. The people working extremely helpful and able to guide me to what I was looking for. This place is a must for #booklovers and people that still love to hold a book in their hands.

This independent bookstore is one of the best in America, with a vast, eclectic inventory, and a smart and helpful staff. A perfect childrens area rounds out this wonderful store.

Over all, a great little bookstore! Ive always been treated very well there, and the selection is great. I have only one complaint, and that is the very high shelves. Most of the time, I have only an idea of what I want to read, so I browse. The ceiling-high shelves are very pretty, but not very practical for browsing. Also, I have a disability, (Ankylosing Spondylitis) so its very difficult for me to look up for extended periods. But a great store all the same!
