This was a great an inexpensive place to go as a cruise ship excursion. The tram is right off the pier and you ride it to the top. The nature center was interesting and had helpful information about the area, and there are many hikes that takes off from that point of varying length and difficulty. All the info you need is at the nature center. Great family stop and a good place to get some amazing Alaska pictures.
Definitely recommend taking the tram up Mt Roberts as this provides a gorgeous view of Juneau. The ride up was about five minutes and recommend that you get on the tram facing the harbour as this will allow you to capture the moment. At the top of the mountain, there is a boutique for shopping however step outside and walk up the mountain. We got about 1 mile from the summit where the grade of the mountain increased and recommend good poles for climbing. At this point we stopped as you will encounter snow and we weren’t prepared for hiking on that terrain. Make sure to have a good camera.
At $35 per person a bit pricey but does offer spectacular views of Juneau and Gastineau Channel and peak. Not sure when Bald Eagle Lady Baltimore will return to her renovated home here but she will make the cost seem more reasonable. Great hiking trails on the top, just be sure to bring water and bug repellant. Nature center offers advice on trail conditions and bear activity and rents walking sticks. Restaurant on site opens at 11am and gift shops are open when tram is running. Worth doing at least once; price includes all day tram use.
35 dollars per adult for unlimited tram use for the day up and down the mountain. friendly staff and a little souvenir shop, but the hiking trail there seems to go forever! amazing views and even some wild life. youre able to hike all the way up, or stop at any of the balconies for nice photos. even have an injured bald eagle in captivity they take care of.
Older gentleman in the nature center was very rude. Took away from part of the excitement of seeing a new place. Gorgeous views.
We were there in July 2018, as soon as our ship docked, we headed for the tram, had to wait for them to open at 8. It was not many people at this hour...amazing view and on the way down we got to gear a song as our conductor playde the skin drum, very unique. Loved it. Since we had limited time, we just looked around the nature center and some hiking, beatiful views!
The Nature Center (and Raptor Center) are within very close proximity to each other and quite a bit smaller than one would expect or anticipate. That being said, The Nature Center is cheerfully and brightly lit and has quite a variety of hands on things for kiddos to touch and marvel at. Close quarters may cause a family to wait on the decking prior to taking their turn inside the building; however, its worth the wait if looking at various paw prints/tracks, feeling different fur samples, etc. isnt something your kids have had an opportunity to experience before. Be forewarned that The Nature Center also contains a gift shop. Make sure to express, to your bigs and smalls alike, what your intentions are prior to entering in so that ground rules are laid down before being inaindated with all the pretty things😊 Over-all, the Nature Center may be small; but, if youve taken the tram up the side of Mt. Roberts, The Nature Center is a cozy, nice, quaint space to pop on in and see. 5 stars for cleanliness, helpfuness, atmosphere, and hands on science/learning fun for kids.
Had a very informative video, and was very cool to see all the attractions. My group enjoyed the eagle, and had fun walking the nature path. Gift shop was overpriced and the line to get up/down was very long. If you enjoy nature and learning about locals this is a great place for you.
Definitely worth every minute that every cent spent. Highly recommended if youre in Juneau. get yourself a salmon burger at the same shack take the tram up to the top and enjoy the view. Dont forget your hiking shoes because the trails are gorgeous. spent the whole day here on our cruise ship and every minute was an adventure. Enjoy
Breathtakingly beautiful views of Juneau from the top of the tramway. Both my husband and I were so impressed with the experience and would love to go back again in the future. The gift shop is incredible- I could have spent an entire day browsing all of the merchandise available! A must-See if you are in the area!
This was one the most beautiful places Ive been in my life. The trail is amazing, the views are breathtaking, and the tram ride up is memorible, to say the least. Its a once in a lifetime experience if youre just visiting.
Tram ride up 1800 ft above sea level. Tons of trails at the top. All levels. Some mud....Gift store at nature trail rocks. Beautiful film inside on Tlinkit native people. Restaurant and large gift shop upstairs. Bald 🦅 on ride down.
If you are in the area, taking the gondola to this nature center is worth your time. Inside the nature center is a restaurant, a free movie about the area, some wonderful easy to moderate hiking trails baised on weather conditions. The views of the town and of the surrounding area alone are worth the money to ride the gondola to this nature center
It is really pretty up there. There are a lot of trails and overlooks. There are also a lot of informational signs which are nice for learning about the local area. Just be aware that to get up you either have to hike a strenuous hike up the mountain or pay for the tram.
One of the main attraction i Juneau, Alaska. Nice restaurant and nature on top of the hill. From there you can take a hike of half an hour to the lookout. Beautiful place.
Absolutely worth the price of admission, a quick tram ride to the top provided amazing views of the local scenery and wildlife. There are several well labeled trails for hiking, totem pole demonstrations, information about the local native peoples and animals. There is also a gift shop with drinks and souvenirs available.
Best view of the area. Nice hikes for little ones and bigger ones too. Fun to travel up hill on the aerial tramway. Well worth the stop - great experience.
Best view of the area, and it is super easy to get to. The people working In the stores are very friendly with all the questions you might have. The local trails at the top are very nice to, and lead to even better views.
This is a neat place to show kids. They have casts of various animal tracks. The size of the bear cast will blow your mind!
Nice nature trail. A bit challenging for older folks. Just take it easy.
Fantastic hike from Basin Road. Not for the beginner hiker. Trail is steep with roots and rocks that can trip you up. A good steady pace will take about an hour. Plan for two if moving slow. Will cost you $10 for a tram ride down unless youre a season pass holder. So make a purchase at the gift shop for at least $10 and use the receipt for your ticket down. Cant beat the views from up there. Continue the hike to the Cross for more adventures.
The tram whisks you high above Juneau where you can climb higher on easy hikes and/or dine and view exhibits. A fun activity
4.5 stars. Beautiful views and plant life! Would be utterly perfect with faster down the mountain service...can get slow on peak cruise days (30+ min lines to return).
Nice Nature Preserve.. good first time experience. Visit here via Cruise Ship.
Loved the hike. Challenging and fun all the way up.Would definitely do it again.
Beautiful view and tram ride up to the park. Would love to have hiked to the peak bit arrived too late. Will be back!
Be careful of the tram line down wait. Sounds like a nice steep hike down if you plan for it.
Wonderful views and even though we didnt hike very far, the scenery was beautiful.
