We discovered this great chocolate factory by accident. Jordan is great. He had so much knowledge about chocolate and made it fun. He took us on a chocolate tour and tasting to learn about the different types of chocolates. What a great experience. They hve everything chocolate: from milk to dark chocolate in all interesting flavors, chocolate coffee and tea, chocolate rum and wine to chocolate ice cream. A must do for chocolate lovers. Make sure to ask for Jordan!
A little out of the way and youll have to pay for parking on a meter that only takes change but it is a hidden treasure. The staff are friendly and the store, though small, is well put together and educational. The chocolate is delicious.
The detail, care, presentation and quality is evident in everything from the packaging, taste and merch, to the service and flair. The quality of the chocolate commands its price, and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and the business practices are very clever. Some of the ways they reuse cacao parts, like for tea, or collaboration with KoHana rum, are very cool to see, and have very unique products as a result!Taste their bars, gelato, and chocolate tea. Its a great place to stop.
This is a small factory and tasting room that’s open to the public for bean to bar chocolate, some of which is wrapped with art made by a local Kailua artist. I loved the free tasting experience for 5 of their different chocolate bars. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and they don’t try to get you to just buy everything. They’re not a hard sell. There’s a nice tie in with a local distillery so you can buy liquor that’s made on O’ahu as well. There are also other small gift-type items made in the area so even if you don’t buy a lot of chocolate, it’s still a great place to guy souvenirs for people back home. A small, but mighty, stop when you’re in or passing through Kailua. Highly recommend!
I was running all over the island trying to find a thank you gift or basket. I am so glad I chose Manoa Chocolate Factory. Olivia helped me so quickly, and got all of my chocolates picked out, boxed up, note written and nicely shipped in under 15 minutes. It was amazing, and she was so kind. Will definitely be coming here in the future for all my thank you gifts, as that was such a easy and pleasant experience and the gift box is very nice. Even got a couple free bags!
The chocolate tasting is so cool! Everyone there is super friendly and nice. Definitely something you gotta try if youre in the area!
Manoa chocolate factory was absolutely amazing, the best chocolate I have ever had. We got to taste the different chocolates and they explained which islands the different chocolate was from. Very good quality chocolate and amazing customer service!
Definitely some of the best chocolate flavors I’ve ever experienced. And, I have been lucky enough to try chocolate from around the world. One of the biggest surprises, was the chocolate tea. Something I’ve never heard of or tried before. When you smell it, from the steaming cup, it is as though you are immersed in a chocolate bar.I would recommend taking a tour/tasting... that way, you can easily discover your favorites. Although, since everything is so good, it may be hard to choose!Enjoy!
Excellent experience! Its a smaller shop and tour than expected, but its still 100% worth it! Its fun learning about the chocolate making experience and you can really tell the difference between chocolate origins, even between different locations on Oahu! We bought a variety of chocolate bars to bring home and give our family/friends a similar experience to what we had! Kailua is also a wonderful little town, so its a great addition to a visit to the beach there!
Super nice lady helped us out! She didnt mind my 2 and 4 year old being a bit energetic. I loved the samples! I was sad the gelato machine was broken, but such is life I guess!
Such a great shop to visit! We were greeted with a wonderful welcome, a mini tour of the manufacturing going on right behind the glass inside the store, and free samples/tasting to help guide your selection. This was a highlight of our vacation and we ordered more to be delivered with free shipping. Loved this experience! And they had gelato/ice cream too!
Took my mom to check out this Chocolate Factory tour. Something new for both of us. HAD NO IDEA what chocolate came from. So I was mind blown by all the information. Learned something new about chocolate and also the company. LOVED the chocolate tasting part. Overall, I recommend this tour. Especially those who enjoy learning and experiencing new things. I love chocolate so that was a bonus for me. Haha.
So fun! If youre in the area it is absolutely worth the stop and the chocolate tasting! Super friendly staff.
If you are a person of color, don’t bother going here. We were recommended to visit this place by our tour guide so decided to stop by. But when we got there, the person who greeted was so rude . When I asked if we could taste the bar we wanted to buy, she rudely responded that she’s only sampling 4-5 products today. Also, every other “non -color “ person was being seated and engaged by an employee talking about the origin and stuff except for us! Would never recommend this place to anyone no matter how good the chocolate is!
Had a reservation for the tour at 3pm but ended up arriving 30 mins late because of the nightmare of renting a car in Hawaii lol. Anyhoo they still took us in & gave us the full experience. Learned alot about chocolate & how little cacao is actually in commercial chocolates lol. Great experience totally worth a visit especially if you have the Go Oahu pass.
Summary: Cool chocolate factory with cute exterior and interior, all in a room with some windows to chocolate production and free tastings.Price: FREE tastings! Pay to park, a quarter per 20 minutes.Time: 5-10 minutes for the tasting. 5 minutes to browse around. In and out in 20-30 minutes.Parking: EASY. Tons of parking in a huge lot but you have to pay the meter, 20 minutes for a quarter.Covid: They checked vaccines and ID.
Bring quarters for parking meters! We were lucky enough to find a broken meter to park next to hut otherwise we would have missed our tour time. The tour itself was awesome. Our guide was friendly and informative. The chocolate here is expensive but the company’s passion for sourcing quality, ethically produced ingredients is well worth the price (not to mention their attempt at diversifying Hawai’i’s economic balance). We are so glad we took this tour and recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about chocolate and its production. The tasting was amazing! We got to try everyone of the chocolate bars and even some delicious chocolate tea!
The local made chocolate here is delicious. They offer a FREE tasting which included various types of chocolate and tea. Highly recommend.
Must see spot!! Cool place to learn about craft chocolate. The difference between commodity and craft is community and this makes sense to support people who are doing the right thing. The tour was informative. They are “small” in size but award winning. Love hearing about people making a difference and caring about the world we live in. Oh and the chocolate is delicious that is the best part! Check it out!
Excellent chocolatier. The entire staff was well versed and passionate about chocolate and sustainability. Justin in particular had a vibrancy in his enthusiasm! He is the reason we ended up with as much chocolate as we bought. Wonderful from our foot in the door to our way out. Great choice!
I’m really glad this was available through the Go Oahu passes or we never would have heard of Manoa Chocolate. Absolutely LOVED our tour—how did I not know anything about how chocolate is made before now?! It was especially fascinating to learn about “commodity chocolate” (aka Hershey’s and the like) and just how terrible their products are. I had no idea their “chocolate” is literally only 11% cacao. Best part, of course, was getting to taste test all the different bars. The chocolate is amazing. Like...THIS is what chocolate is supposed to taste like. Even my husband, who is not a dark chocolate fan, loved the 70% dark chocolate bars. I would definitely recommend stopping in while you are on Oahu and doing the tour. Half our group bailed and decided to stay on the beach instead of attending and they regretted it afterward when they heard what a neat experience we had!
Sadly, the tour was beyond boring...we left half way through. If you like the idea of hearing someone tell you the history of chocolate, through pictures, you will enjoy this. Otherwise, it is painfully boring and long. Also, the store doesnt have much actual chocolate to buy. Mostly coffee and some gelato. I really wanted to like this, but it was a miss. The employees were SO sweet though, and really gave a great effort!
We reserved and got the tour. It was very informative and enriching to learn about the world of confections and chocolate making. The main star of the tour would be the chocolate tasting. I didnt realize how good dark chocolate can taste with additional ingredients. You definitely want to check this place out and do the tasting. They ship the chocolate as well as have some of their product in stores such as Whole Foods. We bought at least one of every chocolate bar and they had. I see that these small boutique chocolate companies can really awaken people to new flavors and quality of chocolate if they ever get the chance to check it out.
Absolutely the best chocolate I’ve ever had and I am huge into chocolate! I have been here three different times and the third time I finally did the tour. It was paced well and we got to taste all the different flavors they had available at the time. Love it so much we bought over $100 worth of chocolate to take home to share!!! Definitely considering the subscription option
Delicious and free chocolate tasting. Love their rotating flavors that give each visit a new taste
The experience over at manoa chocolate factory was absolutely amazing! It was a beautiful setup all the way around. Its a brand consultant and business coach, I was happy to see the marketing and presentation of the products. The color theme flowed throughout and it was just a happy place to be in.
Incredible chocolate. So flavorful and rich. The short taste testing was so fun and the employees were all very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend coming here as part of your Hawaii trip!
Loved the Chocolate tasting. You get a lot of different flavor notes and profiles. Service is great and you really get to see and taste the difference from all the store brands. Definitely recommend if you love food/chocolate.
We had a tasting here. Delicious and unique flavors I have never had before. Very helpful service. I bought six bars to get a 20% discount, a super cute tank top and a bottle of wine to pair with my fave chocolate bar.
We did the factory tour and chocolate tasting tour. It was very informational and interesting for the tour part. The tasting was amazing! So many interesting flavors and differences between the all the 70% dark chocolates. I loved it. But it has really ruined my taste for plain old commercial chocolates.
Amazing chocolate and adorable store! My spouse and I have been subscribing to the monthly 3-bar box for half a year now and we love the flavors we get to try through the subscription. The chocolate tasting is a lot of fun and all of the staff are so knowledgeable about the chocolate produced on the site. Definitely a must-see place in Oahu! 😊
We stopped by here while waiting for our seats at another restaurant. Our taste test was directed by Jordan who was a newer employee but he did an amazing job and was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and personable. Highly recommend stopping by, my favorite bar is their Breakfast Bar which is absolutely delicious!
What can I say? This place is amazing! You can walk up and get a free testing but the tour is so worth it. It was very informative on a very interesting subject. We also were able to sample a lot of chocolate, chocolate tea, cocoa fruit and an interesting cocoa carbonated drink. They have ice cream, the manoa chocolate and the coconut are my two favorites.
Great place to stop in and learn about the different types of cocoa grown in the Hawaiian Islands. They give chocolate tastings and tell you about the history of chocolate factory in Hawaii. They also serve some really delicious gelato!
I ordered their chocolates online, they are the best chocolate I have ever had !
Amazing and beautiful chocolate the owner is an amazing pure beautiful soul the chocolate is just full of flavor it’s hands down the greatest chocolate that has ever satisfied me 100% JOHN DATO a professional Filipino boxer undefeated 16-0 loves this chocolate so much before his fights before his training he eats this chocolate!! I recommend
Great crew and literary chocolate per anyones preferences 🤪 chocolate tea and rum bar, awesome
Must stop by! Get your free chocolate tasting that will help you to identify you favorite chocolate from the best chocolate factory in the country! Caroline was our guide! Thank you Caroline!
Great chocolate made from local hawaiian cacao beans. They even let you try the unprocessed beans--its tasty. They offer a lot of chocolate flavors as well. Staff are super friendly!
Chocolate tasting was so much fun! The chocolate was really good. Definitely a cool place to visit.
This is a fun place to visit. They have free chocolate samplings where they talk about each of the chocolates for those interested. Many of their chocolates are vegan and they are all fantastic, some of the best chocolate Ive had.
The organic taste of authentic Hawaiian chocolate makes.me drooling and its the perfect gift for friends and loved ones. The guy explains everything about what you taste. Recommend for everyone.
This was a nice little break from the sun. Very informative. Lots of healthy benefitsto chocolate
The staff here is amazing. Great time learning about chocolate!
Tour was informational you really dont get to see much. You do get to taste all the different chocolate. (No milk chocolate)
A very educational and amazing experience while on Oahu. It was supposed to rain so looked for something inside and so glad to have stumbled upon this small factory and tour. Didn’t have reservations ahead, but thankfully they had a group cancel just before the start of the tour.Learned a great deal about how chocolate is made, had a chance to try the raw cocoa and hear about the beginnings of a craft chocolate industry (think craft wine/beer). Gracie our tour guide took the time to explain everything from planting of the trees to tasting their award winning chocolate,Left with a much greater understanding and appreciation and the tour ends with trying many of their chocolates while better understanding the process used to bring from farm to bar.Highly recommended
Like a fine wine tasting, but with exquisite cacao from several regions around the world, including local grown beans. The entire tour, and experience at Manoa Chocolate, is educational, enlightening, and tasty! Smiling staff is super friendly in sharing their love and process knowledge of this beautiful pod, that most of us endear. Make sure to visit, while in/near the Kailuha area. Chocolate tea, anyone? Enjoy your visit!! 🍫
Free chocolate tasting with well-informed, enthusiastic host provided insights into chocolate making and flavor profiles. We bought so many different bars and brewing chocolate.
Manoa chocolate is ono (tasty). I’m Kailua bred and know exactly where the store and factory are located. So proud of Dylan for creating this. We found the candy in a little chocolate making place in Hico, TX. Go figure! Order and encourage Dylan to plant more trees!
Excellent tour. Phenomenal chocolate. Good service.
Part of the “bean-to-bar” movement, this Kailua-based chocolate-maker sources cacao beans directly from growers around the world, as well as from local farms where possible. The origin of the beans, be it Tanzania, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, or right here on Oahu, is often reflected in the names of the brand’s bars, most of which have at least 70% cacao content. Some of Manoa’s location-specific creations include whiskey, rum, lavender, ghost pepper, goat milk, passion fruit, coconut and banana. You can call in at the factory store in Kailua for a tour, similar to touring a boutique winery or craft brewery. You’ll get to try raw cacao fruit when in season, will find out everything that the “bean-to-bar” process entails and taste Manoa’s collection in the company of a “Chocolate Sommelier”.
Manoa Chocolate is my favorite craft Chocolate shops on the island! They source the finest cacao beans from Hawaii and from other places around the world to create their bean to bar chocolates. I love that they like to get creative with their flavors and allow you to sample them at the shop (as long as they arent super busy). Customers who sign up for their monthly subscription get first dibs on their specialty flavors and it only costs $20 for 3 bars a month! My favorite chocolates include the goat milk Chocolate, the breakfast bar (with Hawaiian coffee & nibs) and my new favorite the Maia (banana) Chocolate! If you get a chance to sample their chocolates at the shop, make sure you get to try their Chocolate tea which is made from steeping the cacao shell. It will give you an extra boost of endorphins!
We loved the chocolate tasting experience and we were so grateful they provided us with all vegan options! 💖
We did the walk in tour and tasting, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. You can call in advance to take advantage of the full tour, and we are looking forward to it. There is absolutely no pressure to purchase at any time during the tour, but you will certainly want more of the chocolate (or tea, or nibs....)They also offer shipping to the mainland for a very reasonable fee, and can recommend beer and wine pairings as well! This is a must stop if you are shopping for gifts.Manoa - Thank you for hosting us! I appreciate your patience with my homeschoolers as we asked questions. We cant wait to come back to do the longer tour! See you soon!
Such a great experience, our host Katie was very knowledgeable about their sourcing and the overall production process of their chocolate bars. My fiance and I are both local in Hawaii and we left with much appreciation about Hawaii grown and Hawaii made chocolate. Our 4 bars included 1lb of their best selling breakfast bar, lavender dark chocolate, banana chocolate bar, and the koolaupoko. Highly recommend to locals as well as tourists!
We took the tour with Gracie and really enjoyed it! Fun and informative, especially if you really love chocolate.
Hands down the best Chocolate on planet earth! The wonderful, friendly staff will guide you through the creamy, Chocolatey(?) world of TRUE chocolate. 50% cacao is the lowest chocolate content, going up to 90+ percent with NO bitter taste and smooth as a babys butt. Compare that to 11% in a Hershey milk chocolate bar. The best thing about Manoa Chocolate is that so.much is grown right here in Hawaii. The only state in the US that grows cacao! Call ahead and get a tour and taste sample. Or just show up. Yes, its a little pricey, but like I said....hands down the BEST chocolate on planet earth. I dont like any other chocolate now. Ya gotta go!
Incredibly friendly, Gracie was absolutley amazing. We had a wonderful time learning about Manoa and tasting their ridiculously delicious chocolates. Would highly recommend going to taste their chocolate or being part of their chocolate club!
Dylan the owner is a cool dude this place is awesome
Some of the best chocolate Ive ever had. Chocolate is made local or on the Big Island (learned Hawaii is the only state to farm and produce American grown cocoa!). The tour of their small chocolaterie shows the passion they have to make quality chocolate. The bars are a little pricey but worth it (i.e. pay for what you get). They also do collaborations with other local businesses. Highly recommend giving them a visit and experience their chocolate goodness!
The ladies who work here are Stellar! So informative and patient. The chocolate here is amazing! Small batch and unique monthly creations.
They make lavender chocolate here which is the most amazing thing Ive ever had. 😍Ill be buying some online and shipping to my home in Minnesota!
My girlfriend and I literally just left this place and we had the best time ever thanks to the wonderfully kind hearted Jordan who showed us all the different flavors of chocolate and took his time to answer our questions. Give that boy a raise!
We had some Groupon bucks we needed to use & my husband found a tour for Manoa Chocolate. Im so glad he did! The staff was exceptionally informative & engaging. They told us all about the chocolate making from the beginning of the cacao bean to the delicious end. We were able to try fresh cacao at the beginning (which wasnt bad til I bit it lol) & we sampled the final product at the end. So man flavors of chocolate! I dont think well have time for another tour but we need to go back for more chocolate before we leave the island as its the best chocolate Ive ever had. My husband & our boys (ages 8 & 9) totally agree. :)
Loved the factory tour. Very informative and entertaining. And chocolate tastes amazing.
Kaylee (I hope Im spelling that right!) was an amazing guide on my first foray into craft chocolate. I tasted 10+ different, delicious varieties and got some education along the way. Too bad I live a couple thousand miles away, or Id be back real quick. Glad to see small, independent craft outside of beer. Hope to be back soon!
Definitely recommend doing the tour! You learn so much about the chocolate industry and get to try a bunch of different types of chocolate. The staff were so friendly too!
Amazing local chocolate. The factory also ships across US for quite a reasonable price.
I had the greatest chocolate tasting experience of my life. My senses were exploding!! Dont miss this stop!
We did a chocolate factory tour and tasting here, which you can book on their website. Gracie was super fun and knowledgeable, we learned a lot. The chocolate is also delicious and the only place Ive seen where some of the chocolates are 100% sourced from Hawaii.
We drive to this shop every weekend for our chocolate fix and sometimes twice. We are so addicted! Our favorite bars are Goats Milk, Mililani, Breakfast Bar, KoHana Rum, Pali Road Whiskey...ok just everything! Were going to get the chocolate sauce next to use for our fruit fondue.
If ever in Hawaii, and youre a chocolate lover, this is definitely a place you need to visit. Super friendly atmosphere.
Chocolate is love chocolate is life.
I loooovveeee this place. Awesome education. Awesome chocolate. Awesome staff. I loved everything about my experience there. I would totally go again the next time I visit Honolulu. This is an experience my husband and I will never forget. I love how they try to maintain the integrity of the cacao and compensate the farmers and other employees involved in the harvesting and processing of the chocolate and that means everything to me. Love it there 🥰
Great environment! Loads of knowledge! Fun experience!
Local here. The employees are nice and friendly, and gave us some free samples. The only reason Im docking a few stars is because, counterintuitively, they actually sell their chocolate for higher prices at their storefront. Have a look around, try some samples, then leave and drive to Foodland on your way back home or to your hotel and buy a bar.If they have something thats perhaps a more niche item, it could be a factory exclusive, but the items that I bought were available when I checked at Foodland a couple weeks after my visit.
The tasting was awesome, and we definitely got some great bars and gelato! Kelsey was very knowledgeable!!
Nice people, we did a free tasting of 5 different chocolates, all were noticeably different! and the pointed us in the direction of a nice whisky distillery.
Interesting and very educational and delicious and fun! Vanessa was very thorough and friendly and allowed questions and knew the answers to evn the most random questions. I would recommend!
Excellent knowledge. How chocolate is made
It is a small place, bit very educational and the let you try about a dozen different chocolates and chocolatetea made from the hulls of the cacao beans. We had a great time.
Taylor did an informative tasting of so much chocolate!!! All the best I have EVER had!!!!!!!
Great tour and wonderful small business! If you have time on your visit definitely make this a stop!
