I visited Food Dance for brunch with my Dad and we were both very impressed with our meals and the outstanding service we received. I enjoyed a homemade macaroni and cheese meal with a cinnamon roll appetizers and apple cider mimosa. Food dance is a welcoming, talented restaurant and I am looking forward to coming back soon. My dad said many times that his breakfast was the best meal hes had in a long time.
What an amazing place! Fresh local ingredients, original dishes tasty and flavorful, great mixed drinks, one of few places that serves fresh squeeze OJ, I willing to say that it doesnt matter what you order, you cant go wrong. This will definitely be a regular place to dine at, plus service was excellent attentive and helpful cant wait to go and have another job incredible meal. Thanks!
Love the atmosphere of Food Dance. So happy there are back open! One of the best brunch places around! Look forward to any more weekend meet ups for brunch here! Service is always great and friendly. Always relaxing and never feel rushed to get in and out.
Always fantastic! Our server Jack was kind, had a great personality and did an excellent job. Ive been coming here since the 90s and so happy it made it through the pandemic.
As a vegan there was nothing impressive or inspired about the food here. I appreciate that they have options but there is not even a vegan notation on their menu. The portions are also quite small. Without a vegan notation I didnt feel very welcomed here.
Ugh we were so looking forward to going back to food dance, it is not the same. Food portions are SO small…$12 for a cheese charcuterie board with 4 pieces of cheese and a dab of honey. We had to order two kids meals for each of our kids because the kids meals we so small and didn’t come with any protein :(. Service was also not great (and that’s generous) and this was not a situation of being under staffed. Unfortunately we won’t be returning, sad because this use to our go to…
Last night we ordered the pork chop w/ green tomatoes and the seared scallops and both were incredibly delicious 😋! Our server, Carol, had a relaxed competence that was refreshing and authentically kind, yet still highly attentive and anticipated our needs in advance. The pork was literally (and I really mean it) the best cut Ive had in my life. The texture melted in my mouth. The apple cider marinade left it juicy and full of flavor. The red sauce and greens cut the fat profile perfectly, making every mouthful a balanced delight 🍅🥬🍖💦. Then, the salted top focaccia bread 🍞. My goodness 😍. The leavening was so consistent, with none of the big bubbles so common in that style. Moist on the inside, not chewy. Crispy on the outside, with an excellent Maillard flavor profile to the crust. Just the right amount of salt🧂. And the dessert 🍰🍪! The Oreo cheesecake was rich, but somehow still light, with a homemade cookie on top. And the coconut macaroon was like an even more delicious version of a girl scout samoa cookie 🥥🍫! Everything was stellar, and I would recommend a visit to anybody that wants to impress in an open and inviting atmosphere 🙏. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Moved to Kalamazoo last week, but have visited Food Dance over the past 6 years. Happy for their reopening!Like most venues, they are currently short-staffed. Nonetheless, service is friendly if a bit slow. Food very good at brunch.
Comprehensive menu including local farm-to-table specialities. We came here for weekend brunch, there is a cute bakery before walk into the restaurant. I ordered a tofu pad Thai and it was flavorful. Lot of different veggies. Although its not authentic but its flavorful. My husband had a FGT stack which is fried green tomatoes with thick cut bacon cover with eggs and sauce. It was YUM, great mix with texture, savoy from the bacon and aromatic from the green tomato. It was a great combination. Def will come back and see whats the next new menu they will come out.
Great breakfast...wonderful service from our server Lucas. One of the BEST places in town to go! Spoil yourself and go there when ever possible!
Took friends from Florida due to previous great experience here. Alas, it was terrible and had to apologize to my guests. The Caesar chicken salad had no chicken which we then requested chicken. Brought out 3 slices of chicken on a plate. Tons of Iceberg lettuce no parmesan. Then 2 of us had Salmon salad with green goddess dressing. The salad had flakes of Salmon mounting to about 1 tablespoon with an oil flavorless dressing. I did have arugula and leaf lettuce at least. To top it off I ordered a Sangria which I sent back due to it being very bitter
We enjoyed a great evening at Food Dance and it was our first time here. The servers were very friendly and timely with our needs. We really enjoyed the crab cakes as a shared appetizer. We ordered the Pad Thai and seasonal pasta dish and they were fantastic. I highly recommend Food Dance as a great place to eat and enjoy the evening.
We visited on Valentines Day, so take that in consideration with this review. The decor of the restaurant seemed more fitting to a breakfast or lunch location, lots of greens and browns; Less moody, more earthy. Which felt off during our dinner. We were able to select a shared cheese and meat plate that was very good, allowing us to pick from several unique options to form our perfect dish, each a varying array of prices. The only negative part was the provided cracker wasnt that spectacular. It was a little too crispy and came in several large sections. Our meals were small, which isnt necessarily a negative on its own, but mixed in with a $20+ price tag it was a little underwhelming. Although its important to note that Im not much for fancy dining. I personally feel that a cheaper meal from a simpler place would have been much more enjoyable.Overall the food was good, the drinks were tasty, and the staff was friendly. I would say it was a great experience. Unfortunately, I just dont know if it was quite $80 great. I may return to try their lunch menu instead.
I have had some of the best dishes in Kalamazoo here and I have also been disappointed with the value. Today I have a $14 drilled tuna sandwich that was something I could get at a deli for $6. It was simply tuna, mayo, and some cuts of celery. Though it was good it is grossly overpriced for being so simple. That is one reason I never have brunch here. The portions are too small, the food too simple, and the price is too high. The things that keep me coming back is that is it almost always open, you can usually get a table, and the service is good. Other than a burger I don’t recommend much here regularly because it has been a few years since I have truly been happy with a meal here.I did have a halibut soup with my tuna and it was pretty good. My wife also got a $4 side of pesto with her omelet which was really tasty but again it’s a value issue.
Fantastic! I have to say Antonio (the manager) made sure everything was prefect! Food was great. I would highly recommend Food Dance!
We ordered the Strawberry Shortcake cake for my daughters birthday. It was so rich and delicious!
Service was Stellar!! Food amazing, even with a limited menu. So glad to see Food Dance reopened!! A treasure in Kalamazoo!
Delicious 😋 as ALWAYS, Everyone from front door to seating, waiter Jack awesome kept my coffee ☕hot & filled, Food Excellent as Always, omg 😲 my favorite stillmon menu & Everything was GREAT! Kalamazoos Best in all areas & clean & customer service the best!!! Thank you 😊 for staying!!
Amazing food. Accidentally ran across this place looking for a bloody mary. Awesome service and friendly environment. Will be back.
Everything: drinks, food, service were all fantastic.
I hope they decide to open (darn pandemic). This is my favorite restaurant since they opened many years ago. Many family special moments celebrated at Food Dance. The menu is unique; food is consistently delicious; cocktails and wine the best. The staff are fantastic!
We ordered pad thai and the buddha bowl to-go, and picked up a piece of blueberry coffee cake for dessert. Everything was delicious. My husband especially loved the greens in the pad thai, and I was impressed by the avocado cut in the shape of a rose, roasted root vegetables, and mushrooms in the buddha bowl. Everything tasted fresh and high quality, even though we ate it several hours after picking it up. The coffee cake was a great end to the meal. Highly recommend and hope to be back, maybe to dine in next time!
Great service, food and drinks! Will return without my kiddo next time
This is a great place if youre looking for a high-end, fancy, restaurant that cooks great food. As with any high-end place, the food is more on the pricey side, but definitely worth it for that special occasion out.Since I live very close to this restaurant, I have eaten here many times for birthdays, special family events, and having dinner with a large group of friends [which they did a great job accomidating]. Each time I go, the food is consistently well prepared and tastes delicious. They have a good selection of food for both breakfast and dinner [havent been here for lunch], and you can never go wrong. Along with the main food on the menu, they also have a front area thats a deli and bakery. Here they sell various meats [ex. prosciutto] and baked goods [cupcakes. cakes, pastries, etc.]. Although I have never purchased any meat from Food Dance due to its price, I love getting dessert from them because its always amazing. I personally love their large cupcake, however, all their desserts look delicious. Along with food they also have some cute cooking utensils and whatnot. If youre looking for a fancy place to enjoy great food this is the place to go. Whether youre stopping by Kalamazoo, or need a fancy place to eat, theres something on the menu for everyone.
I enjoyed my night at Food Dance and their take on the Negroni. Wonderful staff and great food.
Great meal, great service...so glad their back!
Fun place to entice your tastebuds to peek flavor bursting bubble and satisfyingly delightful a staff attending to deliver.
Normally, I do not write reviews if there was a problem, I just dont return to the establishment. This is different, I put my trust into their product for my special occasion. I ordered a tuxedo cake for my wifes birthday. The person who took the order was pleasant and professional, she included the happy birthday lettering on the cake, I appreciate that.It was ready on time, and it appeared to be in good order. The texture and taste however, were completely unacceptable. The cake texture resembled whole wheat bread crust. Im not sure how to describe the taste, except to say that it might be able to pass for chocolate. This cake was not the first weve had from this establishment, some were better than others, but none were downright bad, until this one. Unfortunately, I will no longer recommend the tuxedo cake to anyone again. The only thing that saved this review from a one star was the customer service.
My favorite restaurant in Kalamazoo. Always great food and service. I hope you will re-open soon. I visit your restaurant every month when I come to town.
Had a fantastic salad, starter and entree at Food Dance. My wife and I really liked this place for our first visit. If you are in Kazoo-- this is a MUST stop. Youll be really happy you did!!
Good food, but expensive comparing to other places
Very good food with excellent service. Outdoor seating was available and perfect for a beautiful day. The curry chickpeas are addicting.
We go to Food Dance Restaurant on E Michigan Ave, Kalamazoo, MI, quite often, especially Sunday brunch. Comprehensive menu including local farm-to-table specialities. There is always a crowd of cheerful eaters in a roomy and well decorated (Conrad Kaufman) joint with wonderful views of downtown Kalamazoo. Entrance delicatessen is worth a visit while waiting for a table, so reservations are advised at rush hours. Attentive service.
Great please if you are vegan / veggie, since it has a few green options :)Drinks were good.Reviewing based in our meals:Food (3 plates) was pretty salty, everything had 15%-25% more butter than what is expected / normal.Dessert tasted like a grocery bought one.Overall, we thought this is a little overpriced for the quality. We really wanted to like this place, since this is a must go in downtown Kalamazoo... But it didnt happen.
Love the salmon. Always a fun place. Wait staff is attentive and helpful.
Fun restaurant in downtown Kalamazoo. They have a nice, varied menu; several vegetarian options which was great. They also do a great job of sourcing food locally too. We had a party of four on a Saturday evening; they take reservations, which we had, and Im glad we did...it was busy! Service was good, plenty of drink options, overall a really great dining experience. We will definitely be back.
Good food and great service. Lots of space between tables. Will go back.
Amazing mimosas and french toast! Love the atmosphere and the staff!
Excellence in dining. We both loved it. Perfect bloody Mary, great selection of beers. I had the fried chicken and it was real good. He had the rib eye and it was cook perfectly seasoned perfect. Service was top of the game and we were very well taken care of.
I absolutely love this place! Great food and service.
Food Dance was a wonderful experience! The food was amazing and had wonderful presentation. The restaurant was really creatively set up and decorated. And the staff was very professional and nice. I would highly recommend! They have a parking lot across the street designated for the restaurant.
I loved this! I had the duck, presentation was beautiful. The tart cherries tasted like sour candy. The service was awesome. The drinks were great. The food was the best. I loved the decorations with all the hidden fairies. The fact that it all comes from local farms is the icing on a very delicious cake! This deserves all the high ratings it gets. Oh and the blueberry face in the mens bathroom made me laugh out loud.
We visited last night. In our opinion, the sign out front was kind of an eye sore and was a little misleading about the type of restaurant but once we got inside we were pleasantly surprised. The staff was nice and friendly. We werent very hungry so my husband and I decided to share the pad Thai with a side of pomegranate wings. They split the pad Thai in the kitchen for us which was nice of them. We LOVED the pad Thai. Great flavor and a perfect amount. My husband loved the wings too but they werent my favorite. After dinner we checked out the shop thats connected to the restaurant. A little expensive but nice things.Overall we loved our experience. The staff was very friendly and the decor was unique as well.
My favorite restaurant in Kalamazoo, Food Dance always offers a wonderful meal, exceptional service, and DESSERTS! I really appreciate the transparency on where their food comes from. On busier days we try to get there early and expect a slightly longer wait for our meal to arrive.
Loved this place! Has a great atmosphere, the food was fabulous and the service was great too. Prices were affordable, a little pricey on the desserts, but thats okay. It is kid friendly and they have a parking lot. Totally would recommend this place!
They are so awesome to allow the Saturday farmers market in their parking ☕
Great food! You definitely get what you pay for. Portion sizes are fairly large. The roasted chickpeas for an appetizer are a must. The homemade salad dressings are light and refreshing. The bread and butter was delicious. I had the feature pasta and it was perfect. Definitely enough for two meals. My husband had the loaded macaroni and cheese and it tasted fresh and amazing.
Great proportion sizes for the price. I had a burger, was good. My friends Mac and cheese was delicious however he felt the noodles weren’t cooked long enough 🤷🏾♀️
Top 5 breakfast spots in Kalamazoo. Everything is fresh and delicious. Also if you are looking for a cinnamon roll, look no further. Simply one of the best I have ever had! I would recommend the Mexican Scramble with Potato Rosemary bread.
We had a pretty disappointing meal on this visit. The dining room was about half full so we didnt expect too long of a visit, however, the meal took a long time to get to the table. The flank steak was so cool that the butter pat on top didnt melt at all and the potatoes were undercooked and pretty crunchy. Our other plate, the Pad Thai was dried out on the outside almost like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for >10 minutes. The staff did offer a free desert due to the wait on the food, but the food still just wasnt as great as we had expected. The baked feta appetizer was delicious and the market in the front of the store looks like it has a great selection.
My favorite place to eat in Kalamazoo. Service is always very good and I like how the interior is bright and well-lit. The proteins on the menu typically stay the same, but the preparation changes from time to time, and their fish specials have usually been good as well. They have a diverse enough menu that people with common dietary restrictions have more than one or two choices. Great drink menu, too. It does get busy on the weekends, so reservations recommended.
Visit usually 2 times per month as were from Battle Creek. Food and servers are top notch. Would give 5 stars if not for the pricey entrees. Easy to drop $80 plus for dinner, dessert and coffee for two. Im sure alcohol will bump it up more.
Came here for brunch and it was super amazing. The only sad part was that they stopped serving some of the items at certain times. I so wanted to eat French toast or pancakes but they weren’t available after 12pm. Loved their ambience and service !
Food wasnt that great
We just had drinks. I had a blue berry lemondae basil beverage. Berry :) tasty!!! Server was nice as well. He asked if my date wanted another tea a few times, but not me. Very clean place
Amazing ambience. Nice spacious. Food tastes really good. And service equally good and quick. Want to highlight their rates are really cheaper and will go again if passby
We got an order for carry out . We had read reviews and were anticipating some delicious fresh food ! The tofu burger was bland, very little slaw on it and the bun was drenched in butter. My chicken salad was pretty good to fair . We were given a plain side salad in place if the specialty salad that we ordered. I will say that on calling the restaurant they were very nice and refunded the cost if the salad, but we remained disappointed and hungry . A lot of money for the quality of the food !
Delicious food, cool ambiance, and attentive service. The cheese appetizer was amazing! The cheese, almonds and herbed crackers were something we have never seen, or tasted before, to this quality! Just coming into the area for the weekend and we were so glad this restaurant was open late. Flat bread, lettuce wraps and salmon salad were top quality in ingredients - definitely fresh and seasoned perfectly!
This is our favorite restaurant! Weve been going since they first opened in the original location. We have never had a bad experience. The food is always delicious and unique. The classes that they offer are always fun and instructive.
Food Dance is quite possibly the best restaurant in the region. Their food is always excellent and nontraditional, and they even manage to prepare it relatively fast. If you need something custom, theyll handle it, and theyll never disappoint. The food is flavorful, diverse, and organic. In my experience, the breakfasts are better than dinner/lunch, but theyre all wonderful. What really sets Food Dance apart is its staff, however. I am not a regular because the restaurant is a bit pricey, but the last time I came in, a staff member treated me to a dessert on the house. I always tend to customize my food a tad for nutritional reasons and I have an addiction problem with the bread that they serve with meals, but the staff doesnt miss a beat. I highly recommend Food Dance to anyone looking for a nice, healthy, and nontraditional meal or baked goods.
This place is great! Food is delicious and the local food concept is nice. Personally, I get water to drink with my food at most restaurants. Being that it is the healthiest option for you. I was very surprised that CITY water was served- (some people enjoy the taste) If I could make a recommendation I would contact a local water company to check out reverse osmosis systems and the benefits of clean drinking water. However, I did not check if bottle water was an option. Do NOT let the water stop you from eating here- service and food was excellent. Some of the best Ive had in town!
My daughter and I went to Food Dance for lunch last Saturday. It was my first time there. The service was fantastic! Adam, our server was very attentive, as well as the other servers. Our glasses were kept full, and the dirty dishes didnt sit on the table long at all after we were finished with them. The food was delicious as well, but these days its hard to find a restaurant that takes such good care of their customers. I would definitely recommend it.
Love it, Friendly & Very Tasty, very! Great fresh food. Very helpful in memu choices! Love it!!
Upon arriving we were quickly seated, and had good service. The problem is the food, its way over priced for what youre getting. I had the bacon and blue hamburger, and the blue cheese was so over powering I scraped it off. You couldnt taste the other flavors of the hamburger. The fries that came with the hamburger were burnt, soggy, and just tasted gross. The only thing that was good was the ketchup and the French soda they serve. We also decided to purchase a small cake. The cake was super dry, but I will say the make a great frosting. Overall not the greatest place its so-so.
Great food and great service in a whimsical, upscale environment. Everything weve had had been delicious. They have a bakery that sells food to go. They offer cooking classes and tasting classes.
Interior decor is on point, whimsical and intriguing. Food is always good. Always. Wait staff are usually prompt and friendly, as well as knowledgeable about the food products they are serving. The dessert case its die for. The meat and cheese selection is decent and theres a just a menagerie of little cool acoutrements for the larder in general. The food is fresh and a lot of it is locally sourced, which is pleasing. A bit on the pricey side if youre on a budget, but well worth the spending if you want a good dining experience!
Love this place. One time my son looked at the kids menu and told us he wanted what there was pictures of (salad, orange and beet). There was nothing on the actual menus for that but we were able to order a plain salad as his side. When our food came out the waitress surprised him with a salad that had a slice of orange and a couple pieces of yellow beet then proceeded to tell us she tried and that is all there was. AWESOME! He was so excited. The food doesnt disappoint and neither do the drinks or staff. Careful because it is very easy to order a lot.
The food is exquisite at Food Dance and the wait staff are all very kind. I do not have a bad thing to say about Food Dance. Just remember, the food is locally sourced with health in mind, this does not always translate to huge portions, so this may not be the place for you if youre looking for a huge meal.
Had an awesome breakfast and conversation my server Lee was very professional and I enjoyed my visit ....
The farm to table concept is done so well here. The food is delicious and the service is always friendly, fun and on point. The chick peas on the appetizer menu are worth a try - excellent and unique. One of the many terrific downtown dining options, make sure it is on your list to try.
Loved the experience, good, and service. Ill be back.
I got the Mac & cheese with bacon added on, we waited an hour and the food came out cold and the bacon was straight fat, it was not even edible. Might also add on that the restaurant was not busy at all. Servings were small and the food was overpriced for the quality. Definitely never going back.
I left this place, once again, feeling the food quality didnt match the price. I ordered the sockeye salmon special. The salmon was overcooked and the fried green tomatoes that accompanied it were soggy in an underwhelming odd sauce. My dad ordered the pasta special that looked like a bunch of ingredients drowning in butter with mushy veggies. Our bill ended up being around $160 for 4 adults an an 8yo. No alcohol. We all felt disappointed with our meals and bummed we didnt enjoy our food. I am going to try to go again for the breakfast menu after I distance myself from the last experience. Hope I enjoy the next experience there because I do appreciate how they support local farms using local ingredients. What they support I give a thumbs up. Food Meh.
Wonderful!
Upscale farm-to-table restaurant with excellent choices for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Everything is fresh, local, and made to order. They also have an excellent selection of deserts and beverages. Fooddance features the areas most well-attentative waiting staff. Every time I eat there I am introduced to something new and something I must have more of. Do expect to pay a lot of money but it is always worth it. Arguably Kalamazoos best restaurant.
Great food and wonderful staff. Great place for breakfast downtown.Only complaint is the coffee drinks. They will tell you about a full range of coffee drinks but serve the cappuccino in a 16 oz water glass without a stir spoon.
We were incredibly impressed with the friendly, knowledgeable staff... But even more so with the quality of our food. The Whitefish Special and the Pasta Special with the fennel chicken sausage (which was orgasmic, according to my wife) were both top shelf meals!
Had the bacon and bleu burger. It was prepared exactly as I wanted, medium rare. The server suggested the black beans as a side, and he was completely right. Just the right amount of spicy combined with a homemade tomato sauce and a dollop of sour cream. Totally spectacular.
The bread was great! Unfortunately, it took over half an hour to get food out. The glass was dirty, there was a hair in the food, the scrambled eggs were runny, and the homefries were a mix of over-cooked crispy bits and under-cooked chunks. I hope my experience was the exception.
The food is amazing, and the service is excellent. My only complaint is that the chef on duty Saturday evening and I had a very different definition of rare. My first steak came to me medium. I sent it back and got medium rare. Still not the rare I ordered, but the rest of my party had finished their meals and were deciding on dessert, so I kept it. Everything else was top notch.
Happy to have Food Dance open again. One of our favorite places.
Really excellent food! Local sourcing largely. Great corn & bacon chowder and bib lettuce salad. Wonderful scallops on corn & zucchini fritters- tonights specials.
Great atmosphere and food. Lots of gluten free options as well. Went with co-workers and it was great ambiance! Highly recommend and will be back!
We were there on Mothers day so I expected they would be busy. However the waiters and waitresses all had time to gather and talk by the register and coffee pots. They were so busy chatting that i had to ask to get my coffee cup refilled 3 times. Then I had to wait for our waitress to do it even though there was up 6 others within an arms reach of the pot. My biggest complaint though is that an 18% gratuity was automatically added to the bill. I generally tip 15% to 20% so 18% would not have bothered me, but dont tell me thats what Im doing. However, the food was good just way over priced.
Great atmosphere in a restored older brick building in a cool part of downtown KZoo. Really excellent food and great service! Breakfast was very enjoyable!
