We came down for Family Weekend at Purdue. Just as we arrived we heard a loud sound start coming from our vans engine. We called Autotorium based on all the positive reviews. We needed MAJOR work on the engine. Kurt and Buzz went WAY above and beyond to fix our van that day so we could get back home safely the next day. We will be forever grateful! My car broke down last Thursday and even though they have been really busy, they were able to squeeze me in yesterday (Monday) and get everything fixed the same day! Great friendly, fast service. I would definitely go there again if I ever need repairs.

I took my Prius in on a FRIDAY just before noon and they still took it. Had it fixed before the days end and didnt even charge me for labor because it was a quick fix. Very professional. Kind even. Never taking my car anywhere else. No wonder they have great ratings!!!

Update Feb2020 : Autotorium is the best auto shop in Lafayette. Wish I could give them a 1000stars. Curtis diagnosed and fixed my headlight for a fraction of time and cost.My right headlight stopped working and three places wanted $75-100 and wouldnt tell me specifically what was wrong even after an entire week.Curtis took care of it in under 30minutes.He is most knowledgeable and honest.I would highly highly recommend Autotorium to one and all.Nov:2019Curtis at Autotorium fixed my car in under an hour while 3 other shops failed to do it after spending days together.He repaired only whatever was needed andDidnt overcharge me a single penny unlike other shops where they were forcing me to get several additional things done which were clearly not required.Autotorium saved me a lot of time and money.Incredible customer service and a trustworthy & honest Mechanic who knows what he is doing.Highly recommend Him & Im a happy customer.My brother was his customer too.Thanks for making my day Autotorium.

Firestone charged me $50 for a diagnostic and then just told me they could not fix it. Curtis did the same diagnostic, walked me through all the options and gave me some good advice all for free.

These guys are great. I walked in in the morning, asked Curtis to look at my brakes and change my oil, they drove me back home and a few hours later everything was done. Great prices, very honest about their work, and they seem like good men too. I wont look anywhere else in the area when I need work done on my truck.

Great place for bringing your car for repair. Family-owned business, owner is down-to-earth and honest. Of course, the owner fixes your car. The cost of repair is unbeatable, I tried many other shops but end up bringing my car back here. See it yourself, there are always 15 to 20 cars park outside waiting for repair. But dont worry about the wait time, if its a minor issue you usually will get your car back very quickly just talk with the owner. Thank you, Curtis!

I have a Saturn Ion where the exhaust had fallen and needed to be reattached to the car. The first place I took it to would not just reattach the exhaust they wanted to basically replace it for over $800. I took it to the Autotorium and they reattached it for a fraction of the cost.

Theyre awesome. Had my car die in the road one Sunday this January. I had it towed it to Autotorium. I knew they were closed Sunday, but I planned to call Monday to explain the situation. I called the tow truck driver to ask where he had left the car key. The driver told me the guys at Autotorium had already taken my car in! Turns out they happened to be there that Sunday afternoon doing their 2017 taxes. They were kind enough to take my car in when they didnt have to. I was very grateful. Theyre knowledgeable, honest, fast, and no frills. My whole family takes their vehicles here. HIGHLY recommend.

I brought my aging Camry to these guys on the high recommendation of a manager at one of the local tire retail chains -- and it was a great call. The tire store rotated the tires for free at the 5,000 mile mark, as they normally do, but I could hear the right rear tire whining/ rubbing as I left the lot, and drove back and told them to re-rack it. They did, and said the right rear strut was wrong and was wearing a small groove into whatever tire it was attached to. I took the car back to the local dealer, who Ive used since I bought the car there over a decade ago. The dealer, whod put on the new rear struts back in May, re-racked the car and, after examining the struts, insisted that they were the correct ones. I even left the car with them for 10 days to see if they could figure out what was making the groove being worn into the new-on-the-wheel tire and causing the noise -- they could not. I asked the tire store what to do, and they sent me to Curtis at the Autotorium, saying that the shop has been in business for, like, 40 years, and unlike most dealerships, the father-son team are true mechanics in the old-fashioned, seasoned-pros sense. Curtis knew immediately that it was a strut problem, and even had a mechanic buddy of his, independently confirm it. Not only that, he (a) saved the two May-installed struts for future evidence of being charged for new parts and labor that were wrong for the car, and (b) took photos of the wrong right-rear strut as proof of the screw-up. Further, he noted that the car had 3 different styles/ models of struts on it when he got it: an A style on the 2 front tires, a B style on the left rear, and a C style on the right rear (!!) He fixed it, it works like its supposed to, and I now get to deal with the dealer for a refund. But Curtis and Autotorium get an A+ in my book! Ill be bringing my moms car to him, next. Oh, and honest Curtis charged 57% of what the shyster dealer charged.

Just had my daughters Jeep Liberty in for a new starter at the Autotorium.... In and out in less than 24 hours and it needed to be towed there.... If you live in the W. Lafayette or Lafayette area, this is where to go for repairs.... Buzz & Curtis (Father & Son) are personable and knowledgeable guys who charge fair prices.. No fooling around, theyll get you back on the road quickly.. Great shop to head to if you go to Purdue University... And if you need to be towed, extremely reasonable tow rate..! I had to get my brakes done quickly and these guys made it happen. Dropped off my car and they called me within a few hours. They took pictures of the work they did and made sure I understood what was happening with my car. Great prices and great service!

Honestly, was not impressed. Maybe its because Im a college student but it never felt as though they truly respected me as a customer. Not only that, but I had to replace all my rotors (which they concluded I only needed just the back 2 replaced - this was good on them) and then they failed to bleed my brake lines which have since caused more issues. Im not saying that I wouldnt use them again, but I certainly am displeased by the amount of problems that have arisen from fixing my car.

The guys at Autotorium are fantastic. Having a kid over 4 hours away at school is an uneasy feeling when car trouble happens. We are very lucky to have found Autotorium and they have taken very good care of my daughters car two times now at a very fair price. I would recommend them to anyone and especially parents with kids at Purdue.

Did the Job without my consent (despite I told not to start work without my consent) and Once I refused to get work done on their shop due high labour / part rates, asked me to pay them their money for time. Rude People. Not able to satisfy customer and giving incomplete information of work. Shady practice. No place for customers to sit.

Fast and good service. The problem with my car wasnt especially complicated, I had a leak in the coolant system which wasnt exactly easy to find. Nevertheless, They found the problem in seconds and finished the repair in 2 hours, and didnt overcharge even a bit. Now I can enjoy my heater again!Absolutely recommended.

I brought my car to Autotorium after being quoted for repairs by the other large mechanic in Lafayette. Autotorium ended up saving me about $400 on unnecessary repairs and was able to get my car in that day ( versus waiting a week at the other place) and back to me the next. They were cordial and no nonsense and gave great advice on repairing my car (or not) in the future. I will definitely be going back if I need more work.

I have been taking cars to Autotorium, and recommending them to others for decades. I have never heard a story of them jacking up the price on a repair above what was necessary. I have never heard of them doing work that wasnt necessary. They assume that you need your car back promptly, and will do their level best to return it the same day if you get in early enough in the morning. There is no waiting room, no coffee maker, no TV, and no shuttle service -- just honest mechanics with grease on their hands.

The Autotorium is a family owned repair shop that has been in business forever (40+ years). Its owned by Buzz and his son Curtis. They are extremely fair and honest. I wanted to get my car serviced while the kids were in morning camp. Curtis was nice enough to work on the car as soon as I arrived. It took him about 30 minutes to complete my oil change service and I was on my way.

These guys are great - Curtis knows how to provide good customer service and was sure to help me understand what was wrong with my car and how it was fixed. He also made a point to let me know what to listen for, etc, for the future. The prices are fair and the location is crazy convenient. They seemed busy with several cars but got mine done the same day I brought it in.

I am a Purdue student and I have been going to Autotorium for several years. They are very good trustworthy people. A chain-store auto shop charged me over $800 to fix a few issues in my car and Curtis only asked for less than $400. I strongly recommend this store.

Took my car in due to an extremely noticable sawy coming from ther rear end. They had my car from 8am to 2PM and I had to call them to find out it was ready. They tell me that nothing was wrong with just the back tire pressure was low and they even took it out and test drove it.i get my car picked up and get it up to 50 mph (which I told them was the speed where the issue would start when I dropped it off at 8am) and the swaying issue is still there. I call them to let them know I am still having the same issue and ask when I can bring my car back in for them to look and see if something else may be causing it and they tell me not to bring it back in cuz they didnt see anything wrong with it! They totally wasted my time and kept my car all day just to air up my tires! Do not and will not recommend to anyone!

My car had some noise from tires. I initially went to Walmart for balancing, and they told me my rims were bent. So I was mislead by them to book two new rims from Autotorium. At Autotorium, the mechanic checked my car and told me there was no bent rims on my car.Its something wrong with alignment, so he re-aligned my wheels. Then its safe for drive. It did save a lot of money of mine. However, I can tell they were a popular place with many costumers. If you want your work to be done, youd better be there earlier than 9 am.

My car broke down on I-65 on New Years Day. I called a friend, a Purdue professor, and asked him if he has an honest & reasonable mechanic in the Lafayette area. He said, Yes! Theres this fellow Buzz. Hes always been more than fair. Ive heard from many people that they also had good experiences.We called, and he was actually in on New Years, working on some projects. I told him it would be an hour until the tow truck arrived, another 40 minutes until it got towed to him. He said he would wait.When we got there, he was very helpful. He tried a number of things to get the car going, and we realized the engine was kaput.He called a number of Rent-A-Car places for me, but none were open on New years Day. He then waited with me until a friend arrived to pick me up.The next day (today), I decided to go with my regular mechanic, and asked Buzz how much I owe him. He said, Nothing! I insisted, You had time, energy, equipment invested, and you stored my car for 24 hours. Id like to pay you SOMETHING! He refused all money.If I cant pay him, at least I can announce to the world, Buzz is a classy, stand-up guy & an excellent mechanic! Choose Auto-Torium, you WILL be pleased!

I talked to a mechanic named Curtis on the phone and he was down right rude and had an angry tone in his voice. I wanted an estimate for a tune up on my car and checked over. The tone of his voice when he asked me why I wanted a tune up was very upsetting. Needless to say I took it to another shop and they said my spark plugs had more gap than they should. I will not be recommending the Autotorium to anybody.

On our way from Michigan to Alabama our VW Beetle hit a large chunk of ice which gashed a hole in our oil pan near Lafayette, IN. Late in the afternoon we were towed to The Autotorium. They located an oil pan, drove to get it, stayed after hours to install it and got us on our way. They charged me literally 1/4 of what my mechanic back in Chicago quoted it at. Theyre AMAZING and if you ever need anything done, trust these guys.The long version:I just moved to Lafayette this week, and wanted to get my car checked out right away. After a routine oil change back in Chicago, my mechanic quoted me at almost $2,000 to fix issues with the front and rear brakes, an oil leak, and a windshield wiper fluid sprayer. My coworker Scott went to the Autotorium a few weeks ago when he broke down in Lafayette and told me these guys took care of him for a super reasonable price.I pulled up around 9 AM and talked to Buzz. I asked when hed be able to get me in just to look at it, and he said hopefully today! I was super grateful for them getting me in same-day because they had a lot of cars around the garage and it seemed they were super busy.Just a few hours later, I got a call from Curtis letting me know they had already taken a look at the car. He noticed the oil leak and the wiper fluid sprayer, and noted that the front brakes were shot. But he told me that due to the nature of the rear brakes (Im not a car person, sorry!!) removing the rear brake shoes to get to the drums may actually cause additional damage.He said that when driving the car, he didnt notice anything going on with the rear brakes, and told me that it would honestly be fine NOT to replace the rear brakes. Imagine -- a mechanic trying to PREVENT you from doing unnecessary work! Amazing!He told me that he also noticed that the car vibrates a lot, which was caused by the engine mount. He said that they could fix everything else today, but itd be until tomorrow before he could get the part to fix the vibration. I said thats fine, thanked him, and said Id talk to him tomorrow.Imagine my shock when at 4 PM, I get a call from Curtis saying my car was done! The guys shipment from Indianapolis was delayed, so he was able to get the part on the shipment. It came in, so we just took care of it today. Amazing!!The final straw that made me realize I HAD to write this review was the price. It was around A QUARTER of the price I was quoted at in Chicago! And when I went to give Curtis a $20 tip, he refused it. You dont have to do that, this is just what I do. AMAZING!!!If youre like me and youre terrified of mechanics taking advantage of you (because of bad experiences at places like Jiffy Lube and my mechanic back in Chicago), go here. These guys are like the one dentist who cured your fear of getting fillings or something. Ill 10000% be going back and suggesting them to anyone who has car trouble in/around Lafayette.

I typically prefer to do as much of the auto repairs and maintenance myself as I can do and do a fine job of it. Mostly for the part of learning more about my vehicle but also because I cant seem to trust a lot of auto mechanics. This fall I was really busy and had some things that really needed fixed so I made the decision to let someone else do it. When I brought my vehicle to them and described the problems, they knew right away what was most likely wrong and were able to give me a accurate estimate of the cost. Later that afternoon my car was all fixed up, and at a price I was happy to pay. Ive never felt as comfortable leaving my vehicle with an auto mechanic as I did with them. They will from now on be my go to whenever I cant fix it or when I just dont have the time.You can never beat the quality of service that a small family owned buisness offers.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE!! Worst experience possible! Dropped our car off over a week ago. They did absolutely nothing in the 9 days they had it, gave us the run around about ordering parts and waiting for them to come in. A part was never ordered- they are lairs and charged us for them not even touching it. When confronted, told my husband there was nothing wrong with our car, but yet the car stalled as he was backing out of the bay and again once he was in the road in front of the shop....but yet there was nothing wrong. They are very rude and do not communicate to their customers as to whats going on with the vehicle.

I have lived in Indiana for almost two years now, and had yet to find a good, trustable place to bring my vehicle. I have taken it to plenty of large chain garages, and always leave unsure of if I had been cheated or not. After reading good reviews, I thought Id give the Autotorium a try. He took the time to answer and fully explain every stupid question I had! He even saved the piece to show me why it needed to be replaced. We called around to get quotes on the same work he did, and at a minimum everyone quoted $500 more. He even had it done within 24 hours. I would recommend the Autotorium to anyone who wants reliable, fast work at an honest price!

Last summer I drove cross country before arriving to live in Lafayette and they looked over all my fluids for me and topped them off for a very reasonable price. Shortly before winter set in I came in to double check it had indeed been ALL my fluids and, free of charge, confirmed I was all set for winter, too!But the best part is, a few days ago my passenger door got jammed closed and wouldnt open more than a few inches. They managed to fix it all up within five minutes and didnt charge me at all. Soon, Ill be leaving Lafayette to live in Terre Haute. You can bet Ill be back in here before I go to make sure my car is in tip top shape before I leave. I hope I find a mechanic just as nice everywhere I live in the future~I highly recommend stopping by here. If you were to look up friendly neighborhood mechanics in the dictionary, the picture should be of these guys!
