My wife and I love our meals here! The selections are great and the food is delicious. With all of the choices nearby this is our favorite. Homey, always easy to find a table, fast service and reasonable prices.
Love this place. Warm and inviting. Great bread!
Love this place!! All their food is SO good and fresh!🥖🥐
The food is delicious and healthy, the couple that runs the place are kind, and the price is reasonable. We love it here.
Masks are loosely worn in the kitchen, which has questionable cleanliness. Food is ok, however its not clear what is organic and what is not.Im not a fan of the assumptions the owner makes in the reply related to political issues. This review is about the lack of care given to customers in the context of this restaurant ONLY.
Well thats was a waste off my time. Slow service, dry food and pricey. Not recommended.
Fabulous cafe and bakery with sustainable practices, owned and operated by a lovely couple who live here in town!
The food at this place was terrible. The staff was even worst. They were giving me strange looks and attitude once they heard my accent. The food simply made me sick, like it was sitting there for days before served.
I had bad experience with this place.Bad customer service, awful food and the owner is 🤮🤮🤮Will never get back there.
We have been here a few times before today. 9 year old is a fan of the french toast (made with fresh baked cinnamon and raisin). The grilled chicken and avocado club sandwich on fresh baked garden and herb bread is kind of the best thing we have had, especially after working up an appetite walking the nearby reservoir. We have decided to make Rising Loafer our go to family Sunday lunch spot. Had a moment to speak to owners. Lovely people. They told us they had been in business for 20 years. Here is hoping we can enjoy them for 20 more.
I highly recommend Rising Loafer Cafe & Bakery. They offer delicious and healthy food. The staff as well as the owner are nice and friendly. Their food and pastries are made with perfection. Good job!
Of the many many many cafes in Lafayette, Rising Loafer is the one that stands out to me most. Growing up I did not even know it existed, which is precisely what makes it a perfect place to sit and read or study. Ive been living abroad in Germany for the past year, and coming back, Ive been disappointed by every other cafes ridiculous bay area prices and long lines/general ruckus. If youre looking for a sweet, quiet, and homey place to chill out, Rising Loafer is absolutely it.
I had initially removed my review due to pressure, but I dont feel comfortable being silent. The food and customer service are excellent, but I dont appreciate how they treat their employees.About a week after I left that mediocre review, one of the owners told my best friend, who looked at her as a mother, that my friend couldnt be her daughter anymore unless I deleted this review. And then my friends husband basically told me to take it down because his wifes tears are more important than my convictions. However, the reason I left it in the first place was because I witnessed our other friend, who was an employee at the time, be told she couldnt do anything right and that no-one needed as much help on the clock as she did. How would you like to work for someone who told you that?Today, my best friend was told that, because of a review that *I* left, which she had nothing to do with, she could no longer be the owners daughter unless I took it down. My friend was also made to feel like it was her fault for instigating the discussion when all we were doing was showing support to a vulnerable young person who was feeling demoralized. I cant stand by a business that treats people that way. We all get tired and frustrated and we all have bills to pay. It doesnt excuse treating people badly.
Excellent food and service from a local couple that own their restaurant. Im excited to go back and try more from their menu soon!
We stumbled upon this restaurant and are glad we did! Turns out they bake their bread daily, and even roast turkey everyday. Wonderful couple runs the place and really go the extra mile to make sure you are happy. Turns out, everything about the restaurant is green and sustainable, from food scraps to compost, to rainwater or recycled water for the garden out back. This independent restaurant is a true find and one we will go back to!
Rising Loafer is Lafayettes best kept secret. Owned by a super nice husband & wife team, the restaurant focuses on good service, decent fare, comfortable environment, and all done with an eye toward sustainability. I recommend the really great bacon and egg crepe, or one of the omelettes. Theres a reason why regulars keep going back.
The Greek Crepe was phenomenal. Was able to enjoy learning about their truly sustainable practices - made the experience all the more memorable. Would highly recommend!!
STAY AWAY food is bad, bad service, bad people!
Myself and my husband celebrated mothers day lunch here & had a great experience. The owners were nice and the food was great. Will re-visit for more :-) Thank you!
I worked at the Rising Loafer Cafe during my senior year of high school, and it was such a wonderful experience. I was a customer before I became an employee, so Ive been on both sides of the scene, and I can say that Maria and Achmeds dedication to locally sourced food, friendly service, and environmentally conscious materials is sincere. Their commitment and passion are what makes the Rising Loafer such a unique and wonderful part of Lafayette. Working here and eating here is like being a part of a family - Maria and Achmed treated me with nothing but kindness and love, and to this day my dad and I make sure to eat here and catch up with them when I am home from college. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to eat well and be treated well by hardworking and kind people.
Ive never found a need to give online reviews but my experience at the restaurant was so horrific that it warrants one.I came in with my 18 months old child on a wet, rainy morning, hoping to get a bite while waiting for the storm to subside. There was no one in the restaurant. As I was trying to free my childs foot that was jammed in the umbrella, the woman server (probably the owner) kept yelling at me to put the umbrella in the bin provided. I understand that she doesnt want the restaurant to get wet but it was obvious that I wasnt going anywhere with the wet umbrella. After I placed the order for a pancake combo (which was nothing special. The pancake was slightly burnt), I asked for an extra small coffee spoon (to feed the child with), the woman took my order and walked away.Shortly after, she returned and said itll be a split order. I explained to her that I want the food to be served on a single plate, theres no need to split the order (why waste water and energy to wash unnecessary dishes, and the irony is the restaurant touts itself as a water efficient business). She said extra silverware means its a split order! I get it that she wants to charge the extra $2 split order fee. Split order fee is to safeguard restaurants from losing profit for large groups who share orders, but seriously, for a young child too! I agreed to split the order so I could get the extra silverware. The order came in 2 plates. One measly pancake, one srambled egg, and a strip of burnt bacon on each plate. The meal went on without much fanfare. I asked for a to-go box for the food on one plate that was completely untouched. She came with the box but took away all the silverware leaving me with nothing to put the food in.I brought the leftovers and the box to her at the counter asking for silverware. What she did next was unbelievable. She took the food and shoved it into the box with her fingers! Whats her issue? Sorry, you can keep the leftovers.I paid for the food and the split order fees and left. I support small local businesses, but if thats the way the business is run, Im sorry.
Great place to eat! We eat here pretty often and the food and service is amazing! Will always speak highly of this restaurant!
I really wanted to like this place because Id love to support a local small bakery. Unfortunately, it left much to be desired. The only silver lining would be the man whom I think does the baking - he was very sweet and tried to be as helpful as possible. The same cannot be said for the woman who seems to run the place.I bought a chocolate cookie for my son and a loaf of cinnamon raisin bread. When she rung me up I was shocked that this small cookie was $3.50! When I said, Its 3.50 for that cookie? She smirked and said, Just try it. Well I tried it and threw away 3/4 of it - one of the worst cookies Ive ever had - dry and crumbled in my fingers when I tried to break off a piece for my son. This woman was also condescending to the man who seems to do the baking (the nice one). I do not support managers who are rude to their staff. They do not take credit cards, when I tried to pay with one, she scolded the man and said, Did you not tell her we dont take credit cards? And I said, Well I just took my credit card out so he wouldnt have known to tell me that. And when I came back from my car with cash she told the man to ring me up since she was too busy chit chatting and then chastised him for doing it wrong. Since its a cafe - maybe their food is better than their cookies.
Great food freshly prepared by Achmed and served by Maria, the couple who own this place, which is the best breakfast/lunch joint I have found in Lafayette. I come with a few friends after our weekly walk around the Reservoir and we are unanimous in our appreciation of the menu and the folks. Wonderful!
Delicious food! Friendly and great service.
Always delicious! Homemade breads, sauces, and ingredients. Organic, fresh and flavorful.
Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful food! Eat here!
Good food and nice people. I didnt have the best experience on my first try but I had a nice lunch today.
Small, intimate café run by fantastic cosmopolitan couple - great food!
Always enjoy the personal service
When we do have weekends off the first thought we have is to go down to the rising loafer and see Achmed and Maria. They have the best crepes weve ever had you cant go wrong choosing this establishment.
High quality ingredients great chocolate wonderful scones and a lovely service!!!
Very nice owners so kind and humble, Good service and great food
Great bread and yummy sandwiches. Owners are delightful.
My wife and I had lunch at the Lafayette location today. We received the poorest customer service we have ever had from the owner/waitress. So much so that we will never eat here again. I will also make sure to tell everyone I meet about my experience here. I used to eat here all the time, but now I remember why I stopped coming here.We ordered two sandwiches with potato salad. Our mistake was that we overheard the owner/waitress ask another customer if they wanted potato salad with their sandwich and we assumed that a side dish came with all sandwiches. We had not seen the small print that came after all the choices of bread and everything else that said Potato salad is $2.95. It was only later that we found out that some of the sandwiches came with potato salad, but the ones we ordered did not.The sandwiches arrive with a small scoop of potato salad on each plate. My wife and I both tried a small amount of the potato salad and had the same reaction, it was horrible. We left the rest of the potato salad on our plates. We thought nothing of it, because it was a side dish and the sandwiches were OK.That is until the bill came and I noticed a $6 charge for potato salad.I asked the owner/waitress about the charge and she replied that it was on the menu and then proceeded to point to the small print.I then said Obviously we didnt eat it, because it tasted bad, and if we had known we were being charged for it we would have complained about how horrible it was. The owner/waitress said, Well everyone else ate it and then this little piece of wisdom came out of her mouth If we didnt charge people for food they didnt like wed go out of business. So we ended up paying six dollars for food we did not eat.I am a classically trained chef and former restaurateur and this is by far the worst service we have ever received. I would avoid this place at all costs as the owners are only concerned with the bottom line.I hope the six dollars is worth all of the advertising Im going to give this place.
Friendly staff, delicious food, easy (1-hour) parking out front. And their coffee is good, too!
We received the poorest customer service we have ever had from the owner/waitress.Honestly, I don’t recommend it, and of course I won’t come back.
Food was OK, service was poor. Asked if they had an item, waitress said theres the menu in front of you, look in it. and walked away. Later asked for a coffee refill, waitress said when I get to it.
Wonderful lunch. Friendly staff.
Great bread!
