The Owl Bureau shipped my book as soon as they could within a decorated box. They included special Owl Bureau adorned paper to safely pack it in, a bookmark, a small mission statement(they donate money from sales to creative projects in their community) and they also included four patches you can sew and lastly a 2019 Yolo journal which albeit a few years old is just icing on the cake.Overall extremely satisfied with this transaction.
Unwelcoming, cold, and gentry. Only privileged, gentrifying New Yorkers would think that highland park was lacking art and culture. $200 books what?
This was just the amount of eclectic! the story behind the book store is even more intriguing. Check it our for yourself! Dont just take my word for it
I really like this store. One can get drawn in amongst many angles of reading and browsing. They had a fine night of comedy last month. I hope for another soon.
Ah. Owl Bureau. The keynote in a never ending conference for an invasive species...and a symbol for ... good lord. I’m sorry! Wow. It just like totally dawned on me. Is this present once my future? ......... Ee gatz we gotta go back! I gotta warn myself!
Home to former long term tenant Owl Drugs Pharmacy (Rexall Drugs), this visually stimulating curvilenear space has been converted into a contemporary bookstore. It maintains the integrity of its original owner, using the original signage, and a mural by LA artist Abel Macias. It has been branded quite well, from the artful owl logo painted on the front windows and doors, the polo shirts worn by employees, and the statues, paintings and other art placed on shelves as decorations and bookends. There is an inviting warm feel as you enter, as the space has been designed to engage the consumer to love printed material! From the scented candles, comfortable chairs and spaces to read, this is a nice cozy space to enjoy books. It is a unique space in the Highland Park area, and quite in line with recent gentrification of the corridor in which is it housed. Definitely a place for the book lover, creatives interested in books about art, fashion, architecture and a range of other subjects. The bookstore houses over 200 hand picked books from the personal collection of current owner Richard Christensen, as well as 2,000 additional new and vintage books and magazines curated by Mast Books (with the latest issue of French Vogue in ready supply).According to Chandelier Creative, an upscale design house that shares space with the Owl Bureau, it is a shrine to art, fashion, architecture, and design. Behind the custom-carved wooden door and curved gallery wall (handcrafted in California oak by L.A.’s own Waka Waka and Machinehistories)...The bookstore plays host to our artist-in-residence program and monthly guest series, with rotating exhibitions, book and magazine launches, as well as signings and readings. A portion of all proceeds go to local community creative projects.Historical landmark, architecture, design, books and magazines. Fantastic combination!
Very high-concept but I kind of just wish it was a regular bookstore
They have a knowledgeable staff and an incredible collection of books and magazines that are works.of art in themselves.
