Always enjoy coming here. I know its not an original, vintage dinner but they did a great job recreating the look and feel of the type of coffee shop I always enjoyed frequenting as a kid be it the long gone Norms that used to be at Sunset and Vermont or any of the Ships locations. The food is good and the service is very friendly. Theres not a lot of parking so its best to walk, take public transit or some other means to get there. It can get very crowded, especially later in the mornings on the weekend, but its definitely worth the wait.
I’m gonna miss the heck outta this place. Greatest portobello sandwich and French toast IN HISTORY.
Whether you are a local or just visiting, this old school diner is a must visit. Yes, its diner food, but the experience and ambiance create the feeling that one can only feel in Hollywood. The prices are fair, and the food is pretty damn good too. Ive been here both for breakfast and dinner, and the dinner vibes with the low lighting and decor make you realize there is only one Cafe 101. Come here alone, with friends, or on a date. No matter what the vibes, itll always be a good one.
This rating is purely on service. My waitress was very sweet and kept saying nice things to me. Was working very hard and kept a smile on her face even though there was one tough customer. I didn’t get her name however she was the one with the tattooed arms and kinda looked like classic Wonder Woman. 😍 Now the good was something else. I had very high hopes for the waffle(s) I came for. The buttermilk waffle once again was a formed pancake made with pancake batter. Very spongy and didn’t taste good. The waffle brownie was not brownie at all. Instead was a formed cake made with regular cake mix. What was more disappointing is I had to climb a large hill on foot to get here. The eggs were good however. Now about that the so called “omelet” is just a egg patty and u have to pay extra for all the toppings. Every other breakfast place I goto the omelet is what you get with all the fixings. Then again the hash browns was something new and great also. So this is a bit of a mixed review.
Absolutely adorable! I was watching an episode of Gilmore girls and then saw this in a movie as well. I had to see it in person! I wish there were more places with this charm and decor. Food was great! Husband wished sweet potato fries werent mixed with regular fries. Great flavor on the burgers! Would come again if in the area.
My favorite diner in LA. When you walk in, you immediately feel like youve been transported back in time. From the large brown leather booths, to the chocolate you can buy at the counter, I love it all. The food is excellent, and the menu is modern. They even offer vegan / vegetarian options that are really delicious! The price is is very affordable considering its in Hollywood.
This little hideout surprises me every time I go - in the best way. Its not the largest dinette in Los Angeles, but it is tasty and there is PARKING. Ive come here for breakfast at early hours, brunch during busy time, and a late night bite with friends. All of these experiences were met with very courteous staff, a clean environment, and really good food.
Food was decent for the price. Food arrived promptly after ordering. Wasnt crazy about my latte. $4 and it was too watery. The expresso in it didnt seem of good quality after smelling it. They had a machine where you press the button and it makes the coffee for you. They dont have someone actually putting in the espresso. Two different things. Not worth $4. Our waiter was very nice. I also gave three stars because when we arrived the hispanic guy that cleans the table was rude about us sitting before he cleaned the table. Big deal? There was nothing major on the table just a coffee, utensils, napkin and the paper left from a straw. Not a big deal. I guess thats probably why hes cleaning tables and not a waiter. Anyway, I dont feel like in the future I want to see his sour face in my morning so I dont think Ill come back to this place again. Dont be rude to your customers.
Came here on a Monday evening it was not busy at all. It was just two of us and we ordered pasta and just water. The server didn’t care about us at all, he brought us the food but not the drinks and we couldn’t even ask him again because he wouldn’t look at our table till we finished eating. The pasta was $13 or $14 but it wasn’t worth more than $3. We ate it because we were very very hungry but I do not recommend ordering pasta here. Also the whole place smelled like public restrooms. We expected so much more based on the positive reviews but it was a very bad experience.
The cafe team was very friendly and the service had delicious breakfast crepes and the coffee and the hot chocolate were also great. We had a wonderful breakfast at this coffee shop last Saturday. The atmosphere was friendly and the decor eclectic, with wonderful artwork around. Even the toilet was funky. We will definitely be back soon!
I liked the 60s-diner feel of this breakfast joint. I brought my 9-month-old son and the counter server seated us quickly and in a place where my stroller wouldnt be in everyones way. I had a very attentive server; she kept the coffee coming and was friendly. I ordered a breakfast burrito and it was massive and delicious. My boyfriend had the Turkey club-the biggest club Ive ever seen-and fries. Everything tasted great!Parking was free and easy to find, great service, great food, would recommend!
Heard great things about the coffee from a friend. I went and was met with amazing customer service. The server, Kim, was so helpful when I told her it was my first time here. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a chill spot with great coffee. Highly recommend the horchata latte.
Little hole in the wall inside a small plaza. Surprisingly they have a kitchen to prepare hot foods. I have to say food is great. Bobas are nice. Slushies are nice. Nice place for an after school snack. I enjoy it.
This may not be a fair review since I arrived to this spot thinking it was an actual coffee shop and not a dinner. So basically the four stars are because there were only a few coffee options available, chai latte, americano, espresso and that’s basically it. The espresso was kinda weak and the chai latte was made with the pre-sugared powder mix. Other than that, the spot is super cool, staff was friendly, free parking on the back 👌🏼
Id been hoping to try The Alley for awhile, and was super excited for it to come to Pasadena. With COVID, I wasnt sure it would still open. Thankfully it did, and it doesnt disappoint! Very high-quality drinks with unique tastes and combinations. Brown Sugar Deerioca Creme Brûlée milk tea was such a winner!
Love this spot so cute. They have a very modern and new feel when you walk in. They also have a really cute patio in the back. I order an oat milk latte that is just the best Ive had. Sometimes Ill buy lattes at other places and they taste burnt but this one is just perfect every time. This place is located in beautiful north Hollywood, I would choose this place over Starbucks any day mainly because I rather spend my money at a small business but they havde organic products! They have amazing pastries as well. I would recommend a rose croissant or carrot cake so yummy. The vibe here is really good highly recommend.
Coffees and foods were both tasteful and affordable. A very comfortable place, nice environment. the staff is very hospitable and helped me with my every request. The wi-fi connections are very strong as well. Highly recommended!
I had a great cup of coffee in a fine mug at M Street Coffee. Thats all you really need sometimes...a great cup of coffee, perfectly strong, served in a comforting real mug. This was my experience on a packed Sunday morning where the upper-deck was filled with lap-top users who looked like theyd staked out these tables months an advance. (You could almost see the proprietary flags waving.) I had a comfortable seat on the couch near the drink pick-up area. I enjoyed the pumpkin scone I had...it was perfect accompaniment to the house brew drip coffee and a very generous size. Its cool that you can get drinks in real mugs, though there arent refills (which many places do on drip coffee) and you will be given a mug / serving size corresponding to the size you choose.
Love their Matcha Latte! I usually adjust the sweetness level whenever I get a matcha latte but thats not necessary here. Really delicious! The service is pretty quick here but sometimes the girl at the register isnt the nicest. Ive been wanting to try the sushi here but every time Ive come for a beverage. Prices are a bit high here but I suppose Im getting used to Pasadena cafe pricing to be a little more steep. So far, my favorite Matcha Latte in Pasadena!
This is a quaint, sweet place. Atmosphere is relaxing, looks like a castle inside with seating downstairs and upstairs.Coffee is amazing. Scones are to die for! Any scone is delicious and worth having. They do offer gluten free option scones, although I didnt try those. I didnt enjoy the breakfast servings too much. Next time Ill stick to the scones and pastries.
Amazing Coffee! My favorite is their Nicaraguan Coffee it is so smooth yet rich with flavor. You havent had a great cup of coffee until youve come here!
This is such a cool spot to grab coffee, get work done, or just meet with your friends. There is plenty of space during the day in both downstairs and upstairs area. I grabbed a vanilla latte and blueberry muffin and headed upstairs where it was peaceful and quiet. This is definitely my go to coffee spot.
This is my new favorite place, the Gelatos are Heavenly and the Fresh Lemonade is Amazing. For all you Chai Lovers you are missing one of the best at 101 Coffee Shop. The owners and staff are one of a kind, see you all soon!
Certainly a top place in the area. This place has a nice design. Similar to a place in Denver I loved.
Everyone at our table was very satisfied. quick and friendly service. it has a nice atmosphere.
I dunno - it’s got good ice cream. Late night date night classic Hollywood hang out.
It depends what waitress you get and I venture my favorite one has long gone. This place is a total tourist trap. The first time I went they charged me $7 for two eggs over medium and some outrageous price for toast. All because I didnt know to ask for the freeway special.Their not friendly and they treat their employees badly. The one good waitress always complained about management.Dont fall for this hype! Too much money (should be listed) $$$$$$$$ for simple food and miserable employees!Much more quality food in this same area than to have to deal with this dive.Look at the photos on other reviews... Does any of it REALLY look like good food to you. Again just avoid this place.
This place was recommended to me on my last trip to LA. Food was delicious. The hash browns were the best Ive ever had. Excellent service, and food came out quick.
French vibes 1000%! Service is great and the environment is quaint and peaceful. Sitting outside in the morning is perfect for those who have pets. Standard brunch menus in a cute neighborhood cafe.Parking may be difficult but there are lots of parking in the residential areas nearby. Theres also a HUGE albertsons a block away.
I was completely underwhelmed.... I had the portobello sandwich and I ordered the fries with it, they were a combination of sweet potato fries and regular fries. I was completely underwhelmed, Ive had the same fries and the same sandwich at a hundred other places in my lifetime, nothing set these apart. My daughter ordered the chili, again completely underwhelmed. My brother told me the meatloaf was God like, I didnt try it but my daughter did and said it was amazing along with the mashed potatoes. Good for them, Im glad they found something fantastic to eat and write about. As far as the ambiance, same again... underwhelmed. We arrived at 4pm, I found the place dark and I had to use my phone light to read the menu.I definitely wont be making the drive to go back... just isnt worth it.
My go to drink at Starbucks is the cream cold foam cuz I love the cream too.So of course I had to try the cream top coffee here. Amazing!! So much better than the Starbucks one. I can actually taste the coffee..
So would recommend! I had been meaning to come here for years and finally got the chance. I ordered the Grand Daddy burrito, comes with mushrooms, yum! Cute old school vibe. Nice selection. Was chatting with nice worker regarding Bikini Kill
Super friendly staff. Pastries are very yummy and coffee is Ok. Good choices of tea and prices are OK
One of the best staples in the area. You can always count on them at almost any hour and they have some pretty great selections like the catfish sandwich or their grass fed beef burger which you can also add to anything as a side. Pretty great if youre living the Keto life as am I.
Hands down the best around! Youll see and taste when you go! Killer atmosphere and super friendly staff to boot¡!!
Amazing atmosphere, food and fantastic service. This place is a treasure and a stellar example of how should a classic diner be.
Personally I feel this place is a hidden LA gem. While the rest of LA is waiting 30 min for a table at some trendy spot, you can usually be seated here right away. Great staff & very attentive. I usually go here for brunch. Love the Chorizo & Eggs and the Breakfast burrito. More like a dine than a restaurant, but love it all the same.
Love the 60s ambiance. The food *can* be excellent, and frequently is, but I think it varies wildly based on whos in the kitchen. The only thing consistently great is the onion rings 👌
By far, one of the best places to enjoy breakfast as well as other meals.During the four days in which I was in LA, I ate every meal here, including all breakfasts. The breakfasts are amazing! However, we also indulged in some tea and afternoon apple pie here which was nice. The dinner here was great too- the penne is recommended as well as the blackened chicken sandwich.
The service, scenery, food, and hours are great. Im coming back for sure. My two critiques are the prices are a bit high, and there is no grand slam style breakfast with eggs, a meat, a side, and pancakes are in one reasonably priced meal. For me, late hours a a good breakfast with pancakes are a standard for a diner.
The atmosphere of the café is relaxing and pleasant. You can feel the friendliness of the people who work there. The ambiance is really cozy.
This place was recommended to me on my last trip to LA. Food was delicious. The hash browns were the best Ive ever had. Excellent service, and food came out quick.
Adorable shop off the main road, and out if the Vegas hustle. The serve mothership coffee and make a ton of pastries and cookies in house so it smells like the most delicious book shop possible. The staff is super friendly and helpful.
Classic California Diner feel. It was my first time there and I wasnt even checked into the hotel! The servers are sweet and their coffee is delish. Even if youre not checked into the hotel I would recommend based on the atmosphere alone!
The staff are very friendly and attentive. I have enjoyed all food items ordered, especially their homemade muffins. The seating is comfortable and the place is clean.
The food here does not taste very good. Save your money and go else where. Dont let the name fool you, there is nothing special about this diner. The decor is somewhat retro like. Its extremely convenient as its under the motel6 and it stays open very late, till around 3am?Staffs are nice, but nice doesnt make up for the food taste. Ordered pasta, or ketchup noodles if you can call it that. Was quite soggy.Burgers well, the buns feels like they were beat up. What happened to it I wonder. The shakes are good, slightly on the sweeter side but good.If you are staying above motel6 and want a diner experience, yeah this is it but please dont think this is what all diner tastes like.
Beautiful place and amazing coffee. There are lots of seating, but SO MANY PEOPLE. If you go in the afternoon, youll most likely just be leaving after you order a drink. But overall, its a great place.
Great ambiance. Good, classic diner food. Nice staff. A bit pricey.
Overall good sausages. Unfortunately, every time I go, I cant remember which ones I like and which ones I dont really like. I should really make a list. This review will become my list. But I can say that the peppers and chili are awesome as toppings. The potato salad leaves much to be desired.
If you make it by ten am get the Rush hour special with the great pancakes in sausage. Me and the crew sit at the counter, most times joined by Lon Chaney and Britney Murphy. Sometimes Angelina Jolie joins us when she is in between gigs. I make her laugh. I think she has a crush on me. If you come from out of town, get the Meatloaf!!🇺🇸
Cool retro spot. Really good breakfast food and desserts. Kinda pricey fir what it is, but at least the portions are big. The blackened catfish is also really good.
During the COVID-19 Quarantine we have use this place for my wifes simple pleasures. She loves tea and they do a great job. They deliver through DoorDash, Uber eats, and GrubHub. Today on the way home from my essential job as a chiropractor treating emergency patients today I was able to stop and pick up a to go order and maintain my social distancing. They always do a great job.
Love the family aspect to this. Taken me a few weeks in LA to find it. I can see myself creating a bum groove in the bar seats.
Such a unique coffee shop and study spot. The entire place is decorated like an old elementary school classroom and has the perfect study vibes. I ordered an oatmilk hojicha latte and it was delicious. Definitely one of the most delicious and unique lattes I have ever had. If you are in the area, Id recommend stopping by. It is pricier but worth every penny.
Cool hidden little Hollywood diner. Many celebrities have stayed here. Its quaint and out of the way. Food is tasty affordable. Strong coffee!
Amazing environment for coffee/pie. Cherry was delicious. Good breakfast too, the french toast is perfect.
Amazing environment for coffee/pie. Cherry was delicious. Good breakfast too, the french toast is perfect. Awesome spot.
Friendly staff and good selection of meals/snacks and drinks. Meals change daily good choice with veggie option. Good size portions served with a smile.
Had a great breakfast, the sandwich and potatoes were wonderful. The staff is friendly. I’ll definitely come again.
I love this place! Cozy and casual feel. A great place to meet friends. There is usually parking in the lot, and if not the street parking is pretty ample.
One of my favorite if not THE favorite cafe of mine on the west side. Always seating, awesome food, delicious drinks and strong WiFi. The baristas are so friendly and the customer service is always on point. Def one of my favorite places to hole up and study.
This place is pretty good & open late. They have something for everyone- meat eaters, vegetarians or vegans. Open late which is great.
This is a nice place to sit and eat. The staff can be a little bit busy so be sure to get your servers attention if you need refills because its likely they will forget about you. The food isnt bad as far as diners go. I wouldnt say it is anything special but it covers the bases a decent café should. Good eggs and toast. Definitely stop in if youre in the neighborhood.
We came here late night- a few drinks in. The food definitely hit the spot. I went with the chili cheese fries which were epic. My friends had the breakfast dishes which they really liked. Everything was delicious, but I didn’t feel so excellent after the meal...food? Drinks??? Who knows...definitely recommended regardless!
Convenient, tasty, but a bit pricey. Ill come again if the opportunity presents itself. A solid quality breakfast and good strong coffee.
Loved it. Great goulash soup and ahi salad. 60-70-80s atmosphere. Fun place to go.
Love this place! Open 24 hours, very old school but with an urban feel. Ive never had a wait here and the food is good with good portion sizes. Good place to bring the family! Lots of parking in the back.
The best of the best! want real coffee, you need to come here
Solid service and decent diner style food. Had a nostalgic atmosphere. Docking it for the service fee they include and overall quality of my club sandwich but will be back to try some more!
Old school diner in the heart of Hollywood....ample street parking, at least on a weekday morning. Its in the same building as a hotel with paid parking.Food is delicious, reasonably priced and promptly delivered. Servers are attentive but not hovering. It was a bit loud, with so many customers, bit we could still hear each other.Points for nostalgia - it is a lot like diners were in my childhood. :-)
The atmosphere was so cool and the people who worked there were really nice but I thought the food was a little over priced for what it was. I had a veggie burger with fries and it was just mediocre. Ill try again, perhaps it was just a fluke because my friends told me everything was good there. There are booths which are very comfy as well as tables. Lots of drink options.
Nice to eat and enjoy the foods, coffee shop is lovely to me . i enjoy to vane and foods thanks.
Parking is rough, we lucked out and got a spot on the street after about 10 minutes of looking... Coffee is ehhh ... BLT Outstanding, Fries Great (plate was missing a pickle). Dessert ... Brownie Waffle and Vanilla Ice Cream with Hot Fudge (missing nuts, whip cream and a cherry) pretty good. Found the place after watching Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Staff is friendly, all in all a good time.
Perfectly restored mid-century diner with a somewhat modernized mid-century diner menu. My grass fed burger was good. The fries were OK but the sweet potato fries mixed in were dry and tasteless. Our server was spot-on. Due to its popularity the decibel level can climb. Bring your ear trumpet.
Iconic diner, great food, great coffee, occasionally famous faces can be seen. Just dont stare and enjoy yourself.
Nice diner in Hollywood with helpful, friendly staff. I must return and try the fries, they smelled incredible! Wonderful chill atmosphere outside the hustle of Hwood Blvd. Breakfast menu with a la carte option to get exactly what you need. Quite enjoyable!
