Great food, unique experience. Ill come here again. Love the atmosphere, and the gift shop section allows you to purchase something to cook/eat at home. Your paying for quality, so dont expect fast food prices or fast food quality. The rosemary lemonade was real refreshing and not something Ive had the pleasure to see anywhere else, if you like rosemary youll like this lemonade!

Ive been to a few open kitchen restaurants, and its always been nice to see the food being made, but Id never been to one where I was able to speak with the chef over the course of our visit. Part of that was because we got great seats, but it was incredibly special. The rest of our service was also much warmer and friendlier than Id expected from a restaurant of their calibre. And the burger was the best Ive had in Louisville in years.

Excellent service, great food. Portions were generous and fairly priced. A great cocktail selection. They have a butcher shop attached to the restaurant, which felt very old timey and European! At the same time the restaurant itself was laidback and modern. I see they have a very nice patio as well with a very long table. I would love to go back!

The menu at Red Hog is focused on fresh, in-season ingredients and is ever changing. The food is always outstanding! Seating inside is limited, but they have a wonderful outdoor area for dining. I usually have their wood fire pizza or the burger, which are excellent. It’s a great spot to relax with some friends.

So far so good! I like the burchershop feel and the local meat/ cheese selections. Prices are very reasonable and it is nice knowing you are supporting local farms.Note the restaurant section is open at 4pm, while the burchershop is open earlier. You can get sandwiches and snacks at the butchershop, the rest of the menu is available for dinner.Service was great, the folks were very friendly. I got the ground beef and spicy italian sausage. The BBQ pulled pork tacos were yummy. Looking forward to trying the restaurant for dinner.

Ive (attempted) eaten at Red Hog 5 times now and it is hit or miss, which cant be the case for what they charge. Three times, theyve messed up my order or left off sides. The Cuban is good and it is what I would recommend. The Friday Chicken Sandwich is not worth $4, let alone $12. The cutlet is as thick as the pickles. The service is usually good and people are nice, but it isnt worth the hassle or the cost.

It was grandma’s 90th birthday, my wife Liz and I hosted. Things started out so nicely. The family gathered ‘round the dining room table as I pulled grandma’s Danielle Steel themed ice cream cake from the fridge. Smiling faces abounded while children’s laughter echoed through the house. Sunlight streamed through the bay windows; painting the whole scene in golden light. Liz had to fight me hard for those windows during the remodel, but I am sure glad her decorating sense won out. As I pulled the cake from the fridge something felt wrong though, something was missing. I looked for the cause but was left dumbfounded. I thought to myself “It must not be too important, if it was I’d notice right?” I carried the cake to the table still vaguely uneasy. Beckoned by the spectacle of 90 candles blazing on grandma’s cake the whole family drew closer. Despite the whole spectacle grandma seemed distracted and just kept digging in her purse, I chalked it up to her getting on in the years and it being a big day. However, just as I was about to approach her to see what was going on her head snapped up.Looking me fiercely in the eyes grandma bellowed, “You’re out of that delicious bacon Brenton, bring me more!” The whole family shrunk back, shocked by the volume and tone emitted by this seemingly frail old lady. The “wrong” feeling finally clicked with me, my lamb bacon had been missing in the fridge; grandma pilfered it and had been snacking on it from her purse all afternoon! The old matriarch shrieked, “BACON!” again. The incredible volume sending me stumbling backward in fear and shock. Grandma was too quick for me to even hit the floor, though. Faster than I could believe she had leapt onto the dining room table and grabbed me. She bellowed “I NEED more of that succulent meat, grandchild!”, as she hoisted me aloft above the family by my neck, powerful beyond her years. There was only one thing I could do. I choked out the truth as best I could: “This stuff is hard to find grandma, Red Hog is the only place I know you can ge…” Before I could finish the sentence she bounced me down into the cake and took off galloping on all fours, smashing straight through one of the bay windows and tearing towards the woods. I can only assume she is headed towards your establishment for more lamb bacon, you have been warned. Overall 10/10, if your store withstands her thirst I’ll definitely come back to get more bacon and try some other stuff.

High quality food. However, I had the special lamb sandwich which was pretty dry like hard string meat. Prices are a bit higher here. I think the burger was 17 dollars. However, my wife’s burger was great. The problem we have here is it has that uppity I’m better than you feel. It takes forever to get water and you never feel like they want you there. If they changed their service we would be here more often.

Food was wonderful, staff was friendly, the restaurant was amazing. Prices are a little proud but Im also not from Louisville so Im guessing theyre competitive. 16 bucks for a burger and fries. The Butcher side is great on its own. Beautiful cuts to choose from. Bone in dry aged ribeye at 27$ per lb, beautiful meat, Im also assuming competitive prices. Pork, whole chickens, bacon, and ham. All delicious looking and ready to go home with you. Great experience overall. I will be going back next time Im in Louisville. Also, theres a huge patio area and the dining room opens up to make the place an open air environment.

Checked them out while in Louisville recently. Spotless clean modern store. Dont let Josh/Jake get started (not sure his exact name) but he is a walking encyclopedia regarding meat. He spent around 30min proudly sharing his knowledge--even has a mini library covering the subject. Got a 90+ day dry aged porterhouse. Although not USDA prime, it was delicious exotic stuff and worth the splurge. Looking forward to my nxt visit. Cool people/place with decent price and selection. Missing one star cuz they are slow answering email which messed up my plans.

Red Hog definitely has a modern butcher shop atmosphere when you first arrive, building anticipation for your inner carnivore. Decent beer selection that extends upon your normal bar collection. Food arrived quickly and was delicious. Red Hog has a limited menu, but they execute well on what they do have. Staff was friendly and helpful during our time there.Only gripe I have is with prices. Slightly higher than what I would expect to pay for the size of the beer glasses and quantity of food. This is not something that would prevent a future visit though!

Stopped in for Saturday lunch. Had the grilled cheese with caramelized onions and bacon. It was served on absolutely delicious focaccia and the bacon had a wonderful flavor. Hubbie got a fantastic juicy burger he was really happy with. We were wondering if the buns (brioche?) were available for purchase at Blue Dog? Great beer and cocktail selection too. Will definitely be back to get some smoked wings and a rotisserie chicken out of the butcher shop. Id definitely recommend. I think its great that we have a place like this thats working with local farms. Just bear in mind the parking is limited as well as the space inside.

Just exited a private Christmas party at their location. Amazing eats...smoke meats, cheeses, fresh salad, BBQ sliders, artisan pizza, smoked sausages, salmon on potato cakes and in-house ginger-ale. This was my first visit and obviously not the full everyday menu fare experience, but the pulled it off in the most critical way...Great Flavor across the board!

This is one special place if you are a meat lover. My wife and I split a shrimp salad with avocado and capers which was delicious. She had the burger and said it was one of the best ever. I had the pork shank confit with all the trimmings which may be the best dish in the city for the price. All in all a wonderful experience. The dining room is loud so you need to prepare yourself for that and you do set at shared tables. The service is excellent and the people are very kind. If you havent been here then dont miss it.

We were in town for CookieCon and Red Hog was our first experience of what Louisville has to offer food wise. Walking into the restaurant the first thing you see is the open flame where you know excellent food is being prepared. We ordered cocktails and The Best Damn Cuban. The cocktails were strong and perfect cold, delicious. So many cuban sammies have low quality pork and flavourful toppings to mask that. On this sandwich, it was so meaty, you really tasted the pork first. Their fries are done in beef fat and were thin, salty, and so crispy!!I can’t wait to come back next time!!

Review №54

When I talk about how good Red Hog is, I say that it must be competitive globally. KY farm to table at its best! Sure, it can feel a little pricey at times, but the quality more than makes up for it.Lunch and snack items in the butcher shop usually run from $6 to $10. If you can catch the chicken sandwich special, its a must try. Obviously, all the pork items. Beef is also locally sourced. The restaurant can feel quirky at first, but once you get the hang of their flow and get to know the staff its quite welcoming. The menu changes weekly, and they seem to be getting better every time!

I have attempted to eat dinner here three times. Yet to actually get a chance to order anything. No one there to greet you at the door to explain their utterly disorganized layout. No entry space, oversized tables block way to the ordering counter, which doesnt look like where you would go to order. Bartender ignored me for about ten minutes. Service is rude; servers just give you dirty looks, the kitchen has always been closed whenever I come by. Operating hours are the most confusing Ive ever experienced, like memorizing an entire weeks itinerary. I love patronizing local businesses, but this place needs to give me a reason to try to comeback. Im sure the food is delicious, I just wish I could actually try it. Also, restaurants in general should close when the kitchen closes. Stop trying to be a bar after hours.

We liked Red Hog up until our last experience. We planned on getting spare keys made at the hardware shop next door, and pick up some sandwiches from them after a long day of doing house renovations. We parked in the lot, walked down to get keys made (gone maybe 5 mins) and came back to a note on our windshield saying my friend and I were not sexy enough to park in their lot. Needless to say, we decided not to get food from them. We were the only car in their lot. Maybe their lot was empty because of how they treat their customers. We wont be back.

The food was slightly expensive for the portion size. $25 for the beef kabob, a rotisserie chicken sandwich and some fries. Not a ton of food.3. There isnt a ton of space for people to sit. The outside section was missing a few benches that would have allowed people to spread out a bit.
