Amazing store with so much to offer! The atmosphere was amazing, really feels like a little nook hidden from the world with tons of treasure. Lots of comics, trade paper backs and graphic novels, also some books and lots of music. Really great selection and deals! And the best was all of the artwork, lots of posters and magnets, stickers, pins, etc. some of which were locallay made!I loved this little hole in the wall shop and I would definitely go again and drop more money than I need to.

This is always a fun place to spend hours sifting through comics, new and old.Finally felt compelled to rate it because of my most recent experience. Though not necessarily a kid friendly destination, I took my three young children and the staff were extremely kind and accommodating to helping me find age appropriate comics. I appreciate how patient and friendly they were with all the questions we had for them.

I love comics! I have dyslexia and had it not been for comic books, I would have been illiterate. As far as comic book stores go... Great Escape is tops in its field! This place has something for everyone! Highly recommend!

My daughter learned of this place some weeks ago while looking for vinyl records, old and new ones. Somehow, I ended up looking forward coming here to browse the music selections as well the comics. If you enjoy taking a walk down memory lane, then go to The Great Escape. Who knows, you may start up an old hobby again or start a new one!

In 1994 my mom bought me a Beta Black Lotus, mint condition - signed by Garfield and Rush - from the Great Escape... It was 60 bucks. Man, I wish Id have held on to it; would love to know where it is now.

This is an excellent store for anything comic book related. The staff is friendly and courteous. My only complaint is that they do not put price tags on any of their used books. They simply have signs that say twenty-five percent off. This opens the door for inexperienced employees to try and charge cover price for used books. Secondly only to online retailers, this store is the best place to find any books that one might need to complete their collection. Overall, I would highly recommend this store to anyone from out of town looking for a decent comic book shop to do business with when they come to Louisville, KY.

They are always having some kind of sale. Sure you could go to a nice neat clean newer comic shop. But this place has personality and things you wont find anywhere else. From action figures to vinyl and tons of back issues. It is truly a Louisville staple.

Visited The Great Escape for the first time while traveling. I made this stop while traveling cross country with my family.The shop itself is a classic comic/record store. Their amount of material is impressive and the layout is good. However if you get more than 10 people in the store at once I can imagine issues. Their back issue stock was abundant but extremely chaotic. I went looking for AM Spider-Man and simply gave up looking after finding all the Spider-Man titles lumped together and out of order. I asked about this problem to an employee who shrugged his shoulders and blamed other customers. The back issues are mostly bagged only, no backing boards so look closely at the condition of the books you buy.There were 5 employees behind the counter and no one offered any help or said a simple hello. This is customer service 101. Obviously, the staff are not interested in any extended sales but are content to have the regulars support the shop. This is quite a shame as I was prepared to spend if I could have found the items or talked to an interested person.I write not to discourage people from visiting the store as I liked the store and its variety, but hopefully the owner and staff realize any problems and correct them.

The selection was fantastic for comic books, Pokemon cards, music and DVDs. The selection of toys for little one was good as well. Prices were good and the staff was friendly and patient with my children. We would definitely return. The only disappointing part was the difficulty in finding comic books with a positive female representation.

This is the traditional and iconic Louisville comic book shop. Its creaky and old; its like being in the hold of an old sailing ship full of geeky ephemera. Avast ye, matey!

This is the same place Ive gone to for over 30 years. Excellent inventory, helpful staff and THE best place in the city for your comic needs. Park in the back if you like your drivers side door ON your car. It is Bardstown road after all 😑.

Very disappointing. This is an old school shop that was less about comics and more about being cool. The staff did not speak to me and when I asked them a question they literally pointed to a corner of the shop without saying a word. It is a shame that this shops staff was so terrible, because the marriage of music and comics can be great, and this venerable old store could be so much more. I give it two stars, because I visited three years before writing this review, and things may have improved, and the potential for greatness is there.

Louisville has no shortage of comic shops, but the Great Escape is far and away the best of them. Generously discounted trades and back issues, tons of toys, records and movies, its easy to spend a lot of time and money there.

This is the best comic shop in town. I have been a customer here for 34 years and I always look forward to my next trip. The staff is helpful and is happy to special order anything that isnt in their already deep stock.

The premier comic and other pop culture store in Louisville for years. Plenty of both new and old comics, CDs, and action figures.

Wouldnt recommend trading in anything of value. They held my collectibles for a week, only to offer a very low number. Once they figured out I knew the value of my items they offered more. Kinda off putting process but I cant knock this store. Its a Louisville legend for nerd stuff. Im sure my band and your band has a CD/LP/tape sitting in there cutout bin.

My favorite shop around. Very eclectic and great deals all the time. More vintage than new product. Store is a bit small for the crowds. Staff is hit or miss. The nostalgia takes care of anything remotely bad.

My husband, baby, and I are extremely new to the area and decided to check out this comic book store hoping to get some insight into the gaming/comic scene here. Well, not once were we greeted. No one asked if we needed help. A lot of the items were missing price tags. The workers stayed behind the counter half just playing on their phones. We, however, did find a number of items we WERE going to buy but after standing to check out for a few minutes without help. We placed all our items back and left.

I had a couple D&D books to sell, the young lady was quite kind and offered me $10 cash or $12.50 in store credit. I took the cash but saw some great deals on video games, so I spent some of the ten on a game. This store is a Highlands institutional landmark that you just cant help but like.

Just as I remember from childhood. Has a huge comic book selection and lots of collector items. They have a quantity discount if you buy a lot of comics. LOVE this place!

Comics, role playing games, records, card games, toys. Its like my highschool bedroom exploded. Only much cleaner, and less smelly. always able to find something interesting and worth a read.

I love the people and they always have amazing stuff in stock, my only complaint is that its WAY too cramped.

Comic books both old and new in vast quantity as well as old magazines from various publications like Fangora, Mad, etc. They also have a good selection of CDs, Records, and Laser Discs which I dont see everywhere. There are some tabletop goodies as well, mostly D&D and things in that vein. Didnt see any Warhammer stuff at the time but they buy sell and trade all manner of things so check in regularly.

Great selection of used DVDs. Ive been able to find titles here that I had trouble finding elsewhere. Prices are good, usually lower than eBay which is not always the case with Half Priced Books! They also have a large selection of comics, toys, vinyl, and CDs.

I personally think the great escape is one of the best comic book stores that Ive ever been to. Its also one of the only comic book stores Ive ever been to. I love their collection of buffy the vampire slayer and doctor who comics and toys.

One of Louisvilles best comic shops (I also love the Destination). Great selection of new comics and back issues. They run great sales with nice discounts. They support local, independent comic book creators more than any other shop in the Louisville area (i.e. good selection of books and very fair business practices). They have a good section for kids. Lots of cool toys. Good deals on second hand trades. Very knowledgeable staff. Not to mention tons of old records and music. A must-visit shop for any comic or toy fan.
