Left my guitar to be on march 20th 2020. It was never fixed. Lots of nice acoustic guitars. I guess Steinberg is semi retired.
Best service I have had in months. They have a smile on their face and much knowledge on string instruments. We figured out I needed a left handed bass guitar so that was my goal accomplished. Great guys
Great shop! really friendly staff!
Of 3 stores visited before steilburg, they were more helpful, informative and polite. I purchased a guitar, very satisfied, and know that this will be my go to music store in the future.
Outstanding service; my near mint USED item arrived in truly pristine condition - the 14-year old Gretsch guitar is cleaner than many instruments sold as brand new!
Knowledgeable and friendly people Ive met two times Ive been there now. Even after they were aware of my poverty. Hehe.
Been going there for years.Everything you want in a music store. A great selection of a variety of stringed instruments and accessories. The staff is very knowledgeable and Jim is a first-rate luthier; hes worked on several of my guitars. More than anything, they are friendly and not just concerned with making the sale: the type of people its a pleasure to do business with. I recommend them to everyone I know. Top Shelf.
Had great service from Neil. Love my banjo!
Neil is helpful and knowledgeable. Good instruments.
A great place to buy a string instrument if you are serious about buying. They are very knowledgeable and professional. I purchased a mandolin there 8 years ago and have loved it.
I picked up a Deering banjo from them recently. They were knowledgeable, passionate, and kind. The banjo is wonderful, and they made buying it a joy.
I was looking for a banjo to replace the one I sold. I called and looked at other places but no selection and knowledge about banjos were very much lacking. Called Steilberg. The man I talked to was very familiar with banjos. I travelled from Indiana to take a look. Got there and looked at several. They showed me one I really liked so I bought it. They set the banjo up while i waited. I thought this was going an extra mile but they apparently treat everyone this way. They have a wide variety of instruments. They work on and set up their instruments. This is a big plus. I seriously think that if you buy from these people theyll take care of you for life. Go see them.
I called so many places from Indiana to Kentucky looking for my son a used cello that wasnt extremely expensive. He loves to play but we dont have a lot of resources or funds with five kiddos. Every place I called was either snotty, rude, or didnt have one at all. Steilberg treated us like human beings! They were kind, respectful, and went out of their way to talk to us! They had one in stock and my 12 year old son fell in love! He plays it night and day since he got it. The bridge just snapped as he was playing so back we go today. I would not shop anywhere else! These folks are amazing people!
Awesome guys and very informative. Top notch service.
Great experience. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommended!
Extremely helpful, welcoming people. Im taking lessons for the first time in my life (in my 40s!) and was very nervous. My instructor, Joe, has made me feel more relaxed, and answers all my questions while giving me a good foundation to work on. Very satisfied, overall!
Knowledgeable guys. Nice place. Full of guitars and other fun stuff. Very laid back. You do need to ask before picking up a guitar from the wall. Very particular guys. And rightly so. They also have consignment items.
Knowledgeable sales people..
Love this store. Everyone who works here is very friendly and knowledgeable. They are totally willing to answer any questions you might have even if you aren’t buying anything. They even replaced some parts on my Banjo for free. They have amazing instruments at decent prices. Everyone who plays an instrument should check out this shop and talk to their talented kind staff members.
True professionals who really care about their clients satisfaction they actually said thank you for your business who says that anymore? Neal was such a big help and pleasure to work with.
Very professional, kind and friendly. They also have a special band that performs. Stop by and get a flyer for more info.
Love that place! If you ever need any help with anything related to string instruments please go there. Jim, the owner will take care of you. Anything from instrument purchase to repair is available. They also offer lessons with some very talented musicians.
Acoustic guitar mecca. I told an employee what kind of sound and shape I was looking for within my budget, and he spent my stay looking for guitars in the store that fit my particular interests. A visit is worth the educational experience alone if you are a beginner or experienced musician. In response to another users concern, there are a lot of quality/new/vintage guitars in the relatively small store, so I saw why consulting an employee before playing is warranted. I cant imagine anything other than enthusiasm and positivity from the guys who run this place without maybe being prompted to respond otherwise. Theyre sharp for the craft.
An amazing store, owner, and selection. If your tired of dealing with the garbage guitar center offers, check this store out. Extremely knowledgeable about the instruments being sold in store. This is where I’ll be spending my money in Louisville from now on.
I was visiting from out of town and the shop owner was kind enough to let me check out a few of his quality mandolins. Great little shop for bluegrass instruments! He is a repair man and has been in business for 44 years! Great experience!
Excellent store. Good service and fair prices. Wide range of instruments.
I just purchased my very first mandolin today and Im beyond thrilled. As soon as you step into the store it felt warm and welcoming, while on if the owners strummed a guitar. Very attentive, and walked me through what I might need. I plan on coming back at some point to purchase another instrument. Please if your looking for a stringed instrument choose this place.
A nice place to check out if youre looking for a new instrument. The staff is nice and knowledgeable. I can see why this place has been around for 40+ years.
Anyone can sell brand name guitars, but not everyone gets the best ones, unless they have a quality relationship with the manufacturers. Steilberg String Instruments consistently gets the best instruments from all its suppliers. Add a quality sales staff and the best price point in town, and you cant ask for a better experience, no matter what kind of string instrument you wish to purchase.
It was a blast they are very knowledgeable about theyre selection and know just what you need to improve your music playing experience will definitely be coming back!
Jim did a great job of working with my daughter to find the right combination of chin rest and shoulder rest to find the perfect fit for her violin. Customer service, attention to details and excellence describe Steilberg Strings.Picked up my new Eastman AC722 yesterday after having an L.R. Baggs M1 pickup installed. Jim did a fantastic job on the install and the guitar was finished before the promised time. And the guitar sounds great! If you are in the market for a stringed instrument or need any work done to your existing instrument I would highly recommend Jim and his staff at Steilberg.Another guitar from Steilberg to review. Just purchased a new Hofner HM88, handmade classical guitar. As usual Jim had only the best guitar available and set it up expertly. This is a beautiful instrument. After only a few weeks of playing it is already opening up and the sound expanding. If you are in the market for a professional quality, stage worthy classical guitar check out the HM88. You will not be disappointed. With the instrument or the professional service at Steilberg Strings.
Super helpful, knowledgeable and friendly staff. I bought my mandolin here. They have the best offering Ive seen in Louisville.
They sell quality instruments and are very knowledgeable. I appreciate their helpful attitude.
I just took my violin in and Neil was able to help me and he answered all me questions, and he was very patient. I would recommend this store due to the great experience i had.
The man there was very nice and got the things I needed that I was not sure about.
Great experience! Staff was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. New to banjo picking and Jim was cool to go over some basics, helped me test and play a couple Deering models. Really made my day, and left with a new banjo :)
Very knowledgeable staff. A good place to find high end stringed instruments and music lessons. I have had two different teachers here and both are great.
The only place in Louisville that stocks new G&L guitars. Friendly and knowledgeable
Friendly neighborhood music store. Best of all they sell single guitar strings 👍
Great people Great experience.... daughter just started lessons......went to other establishments...that were farther away with higher recommendation so happy I am here.
I find everything i need, and the owner a very nice and educated man
Look no further for high quality string instruments. Jim and his staff know every detail about every instrument in stock, down to odd facts the type of wood used in the bracing of any given acoustic guitar. I picked several guitars to test, and they were able to tell me anything and everything I would want to know. They even turn away instruments that dont meet their criteria- which you dont find in many shops. After I decided to purchase a new Taylor, Jim took it in the shop for a setup and I couldnt be happier. It plays better than any other guitar I own. Highly recommended if you want a quality instrument.
Very pleasant environment an friendly as can be. Very helpful an knowledge able with his work
Very knowledgeable, personable and friendly. A hidden gem of beautiful guitars and instruments.
Great knowledgeable staff. Great product fun place
They are listed as a Eastman Dealer, drive two hours to view stock from poorly updated online description which stated 6 Eastman mandolins. They had one low end Eastman only. Then the associate was indifferent and rude and tried to sell me an upper end mandolin not in stock without even being able to play it. They are about bottom line here, did not treat me like a customer there to spend 2 to 3 thousand dollars and were unapologetic for misrepresenting their stock. The sales guy wasnt busy as we were only ones there so maybe he went online and adjusted the list. My loss, should have called but I can NOT recommend these guys after my experience.
Good shop for buying instruments, not a good shop for repairs. I had a guitar in shop 3 weeks, never touched...beware repair!
Very professional and also kudos on offering lessons to strengthen your skill.
Such a wonderful store, very large selection of stringed instruments. Good competitive prices too!
I have dealt with Steilbergs for about 6y. They are friendly and competent. It is not a perfect music store, but the description presented by Mr. Wood is not in any way shape or form what I have experienced. They do request that you ask for assistance with the instruments, but to me this seems reasonable since they have an investment in the instrument they rightly want to protect. It has been my experience that when I have asked, the staff have been more than willing to assist me to play any instrument in the shop. This included a $6k+ Deering, no problem.
Great little store. Good quality equipment for sale too.
Nice instruments, but the guy that owns the place is one of the rudest people Ive dealt with. He had no clue who I am, nor my 2 Associates that were with me. I make more than enough money to buy everything in his store, and he treated us like we were street trash. Wouldnt even let me look at a guitar. I suggest if you want a good instrument, dont go Here. Ive been in the music business all my life and any one with knowledge, or interest in the music world should want to share what they know. He was more worried about us leaving than making a purchase. And I see other people commenting on how he answers questions for them, but when I asked him what the best guitar he had would be for my son to start out with was, he said... They have this thing called google you can ask it any question you want. Very very rude, when someone tells you to go on google to answer a question about what they are selling... Is time to go.
Jim is very personable and knowledgeable! Its a great music store!
This is a great place to get any kind of string instrument and if they dont have what youre looking for theyll know where to find it and theyll order it for you!
If youre interested in music, this is a must go. Great selection, attentive, and the service department is the best in town.
Great place! The staff are very helpful!
Welp! I went in to steilberg string instruments to get my guitar stringed and ive read alot of the reviews and i must say i dont know what store they went to lol because my experience was anything but good first of the owner left me standing there for 30 mins when it should have been an in and out process the owner was very rude and arrogant he treated me like garbage and on top of that he swindled me out of 20 dollars plus another 7 dollars for the strings thats double what anybody else charges and second off the guitars they stock are mainly over priced imitation guitars the only known brand they have is a couple of washburn guitars so if you want a guitar or bass etc that you can trust id look else where... if you want a over priced copy and or bad unprofessional service go to steilberg, NEVER AGAIN
I grew up in louisville but moved away a long time ago. On a recent trip back home, driving thru old haunts, i stumbled across the shop. Embarrassingly, i never knew it was there, but then ive been gone. Always on the lookout for a good guitar store--mom and pop is always better than the commercial big box behemoths--i stopped in. It was close to closing time but that didnt matter to jim (owner) and neal (sales). Both were obviously tremendously devoted to their work. Its not just a job---its clear they love all things music. The shop is what you would expect of a solo shop; intimate, high quality instruments, well kept, not overly stocked with huge inventory but a broad range; electric, acoustic, violins, mando, guitar, bass, etc. All price ranges of good quality instruments--no junk. Even a flat-out beginner can feel good about spending a minimal amount of money but getting a good instrument that will last a long time. The best part was the imposing friendliness of jim and neal. I say imposing because its typical of southern hospitality; you cant stop friendliness when its genuine. No pushing, no pressure, just honest interest in helping out. both are exceptionally knowledgeable about the gear and very tolerant of my multipls stupid questions that exposed my ignorance. Bottom line: i walked out having bought a mandolin and looking forward to learning it. Since i live across the country now, the shop shipped it (ground, to avoid the air considerations). It arrived perfectly set up. Price was more than fair.My bottom line feeling: i can walk into a Guitar Center anywhere in the country and buy almost anything. If thats all you want, you wont be disappointed in the big box experience. But if you want the feel of actually having spent some time in learning about the instrument, while supporting the small businessman, go small. Steilberg is one of those places. Even tho ive not lived in louisville for almost 45yrs, i still feel as if i bought local. I could have bought a mando anywhere; im glad i got it from jim and neal.
Best music store in the city. Hands down.
Great selection of Maton and Taylor!
Second to none for stringed instruments.
Great Service and Nice People!!
The owner is very rude and unprofessional. I will never shop there. He overprices his products anyway.
Salesman was super nice... But instruments way to expensive.
Lessons are very reasonably priced
Great place for guitars!
Their instruments are overpriced and their staff is very rude and unprofessional.
Excellent, knowledgeable staff.
Friendly and helpful
