Very rich blue/purple coloring from the tempering emanating rich, sweet and resonant tones. Like most high quality instruments, it requires very little effort to play.You get what you pay for, thats for sure.A very fine instrument from Isthmus, to say the least. 10/10

What joy I am having playing my new hand pan from Isthmus Instruments!All of the previous glowing reviews have said it all, but here is my story to add to the praise.When I first heard the sound of this instrument I was instantly enchanted and started my research. I have always wanted a HandPan since the conception of the instrument some 20 years ago. However at the time they were made in Europe. I highly recommend anyone looking for a handpan to consider one made by Isthmus Instruments. I live on the westcoast in Canada and it is so hard to find any shops that carry handpans. I was nervous at first to purchase sight unseen from the US but her FAQs are very thourough and response time for inquiry from their webpage is very quick. Jenny took a lot of care to answer all of my questions. They have a lot of youtube video positngs on their website too. She even followed up and reached out when my delivery schedule changed and made sure if my handpan arrived safely. I am finally able to share this review. I LOVE MY HANDPAN!!!!!!! I fell in love with this instrument after watching a YouTube video several years ago. At the time you could only seem to get it in Europe, and the prices were way out of my league, but I held the faith. I knew that one day I would have one. I took some time to save some money, then began my search again. I found Jenny, and was psyched to know that there was a woman owned company producing them. I wanted to travel to her store and hear them personally but this is the year of COVID-UGH. Luckily, Jenny was also working with April Moncrief out in West Virginia. I was able to drive over from Baltimore and select from a few different scales. April took time to share the history of the instrument, and how she became a hand pan maker. My first stop was to a friends house, and they happen to be musicians. There was some family drama brewing at the time, but as soon as I brought out the handpan and introduced it to them, it shifted everyones energy. Medicine that was worth the cost and wait. WOW, Isthmus handpans exceeded all expectation and were absolutely gorgeous both in appearance (with blue and purple hues) and sound! The tones sound bright and full with even light touch, allowing a beautiful range to be played. I chose the E Sabyed (E Major) scale and it is a great range that can convey a wide variety of melodies.Not to be out-shined by the product itself, Jenny was incredibly helpful answering my questions, assisting in choosing my handpan, and going above and beyond giving advise to me as a first time buyer. She also had my handpan out the door within a day and I was playing my handpan a day later!I cannot recommend Isthmus Instruments enough, I spent a month researching handpan makers, scales, etc. and in the end am so happy I went with Isthmus. I received my first Handpan in October 2017. Bought as a 65th birthday present to myself. The instrument is everything I hoped it would be and communicating with Shlomo was easy and pleasant. I received videos about the different turnings and that made it easy to choose. Not a musician! so appreciated the help. Once the Handpan was finished I was sent a video of it being played so I was assured I would be happy. Finally the decorative etching is beautiful!

I am extremely happy with the beautiful sound of my handpan and the help I received from Shlomo & Jenny. They were both very helpful in choosing the handpan, meeting with me and giving me instruction to get me started. Shlomo provided a great first lesson and I am much more confident in my playing. Have you ever received something that turned out to be far more incredible than you ever anticipated? The C Aegean Isthmus handpan totally falls into that category for me. The instrument is a real piece of art that’s made with exquisite craftsmanship. I can’t describe the meditative feeling I get while playing it. I just kind of zone out and get caught up in the music and tones. I sincerely cannot find a negative to this joyful addition to my home. If I’m not playing it, my ten year old son is playing it. I think this is by far one of the best purchases I’ve made in a very long time. I wish I could find he words to describe how much I love my Isthmus handpan, but words just don’t do it justice.The customer service through Isthmus is second to none. I really appreciate the fact that I’ve received emails with various YouTube links about techniques and lessons in addition to check in to see how I like my handpan. From my experience, my purchase of my handpan folded me into a community of folks that are passionate about this beautiful instrument. It has been a wonderful experience, working with the Isthmus handpan maker Jenny Robinson and Schlomo Calvo whom was so attentive to the details that go into creating a custom handpan. I was so grateful for the continued updates from the time I ordered it to the day I received it. There was great detail that went into the artwork, which totally blew me away! It is so beautiful! I so appreciate their attention to my vision and consideration when creating this one of a kind beauty. It is a joy to play! I recommend this maker to anyone who is interested in joining the handpan family!!

I am so happy to have an Isthmus Instruments handpan (C# annasizka)! The instrument is not only beautiful sounding, but also beautiful in appearance. The protective nitride finish gives it an entrancing purple-blue hue. The gu underside has a high, bell-like quality, and the top is deeply resonant and wonderfully sensitive even to a firm brush-like swipe.Jenny was very responsive to emails and phone calls and easy to work with. After spending months researching potential makers and meeting/reaching out to other handpan sellers/makers, I finally contacted Isthmus in October of 2016 with my top three scales. I was happy to receive a timely and helpful response from Jenny. She explained the process and that she would likely have new instruments available in Jan/Feb of 2017. I was planning to contact Isthmus around late January to follow up, but she reached out to me when there was an instrument available in early Jan 2017. It was actually earlier than I expected and definitely worth the short wait!Since I live on the eastern side of the U.S. it means a lot to know that the person who made my handpan is relatively close by. I didnt have to worry about international shipping, etc. I appreciated that Jenny was up front about the fact that she is a newer handpan maker. In my opinion her instruments are top quality. I have been playing the instrument for a few weeks now, and I feel really great about choosing Isthmus!
