Good customer service and prompt delivery, but the topsoil quality was rather poor. Very clumpy, hard to spread, and chock full of weed seeds. It would be better if they prepared the product a little better.

Grillos has donated a huge amount of mulch and soil to Bridgeport Mutual Aid that weve used to build vegetable gardens in peoples yards in Bridgeport. The owner was extremely responsive--on the same morning I asked he dropped off two truckloads of materials before noon. They also donated to us last year. It makes a huge difference--our project couldnt run without soil. Thank you so much!!!!

We ordered a cord of wood to be delivered between 8-11am (their time quote) called again around 10 to get an update (told they would arrive soon) now its 1115 (and was told they just left Milford 15 minutes ago.) Just a straight drive alone puts that at around 30 mins. Not cool when one has other things to do and cannot leave until they show up.

GARDEN MIX? More like gravel mix. Veggies cant grow in rocks. Most are under 1 (barely, but not all), but there are way too many of them. The soil compacts, crusts over, makes deep cracks, and the seedlings are stunted and have stopped growing. There is no way to thin anything out as they are encased in a concrete-like death-trap. The soil is dusty and gray, like there is no organic matter in it at all. In short, it is sub-standard and dead soil, and I question whether it is even safe to grow edibles in. We bought a ton of this stuff, for 3 new raised beds and now I will have to hand screen and amend for years. This years growing season is shot. Pictures speak for themselves. And if you look at his outrageous responses to other reviews you will get a hint at the way customers are treated. Im sorry I didnt check reviews first.

First and last time I would buy from this company!!!Poor customer service, rude staff, and horrible and overpriced product.I ordered mulch and wood chips. The mulch would be used for my yard and the chips for a childrens playscape. I requested cedar wood chips because they typically last longer and the rep told me it was certified safe for children and very common. I was told it was a gold color. They gave me 2 different mulch orders and never gave me the wood chips I ordered over the phone.When looking at the cedar mulch I found broken plastic parts, used rubber, rocks, cut up car tires, screws, rusted metal sticks (looks like a broken dip stick?), weeds, and other trash. The owner called me a liar and tried to state the trash was from my garbage cans (which are locked up in a shed to prevent raccoons). I wish I could give less than one star.The owner told me the mulch is safe for kids and to just cover the mulch up that has trash with more of their products. He was rude, interrupted me numerous times, and was not listening to my concerns. I told him his product is a hazard and poses risks to children (which I was promised safe and certified by the owner and phone rep) then the owner called me irrational and told me to get wood chips to cover it up. I refused to make another purchase from their company and I refused to have anymore of their poor and unsafe products at my home. The owner refused to give a refund and refused to pick up the contaminated mulch.This is not safe for kids and I will be reporting this to the state and BBB. my guess is they used a dumpster mixed with mulch to drop the mulch off, which again I never ordered because I wanted wood chips!!!!P.S. I requested they do not place the mulch against my fence and they did. They also mixed both orders together (which is why I paid 2 different delivery charges to prevent and they stated I had no other option but to pay for 2 deliveries). The owner is the liar! My driveway was clean, I ordered wood chips not mulch, and they made no effort to correct the situation and insulted me. Poor quality and poor customer service normally puts companies out of business so i advise they make major corrections, starting with preventing the owner to speak to customers with such disrespect. and if it was my trash in the mulch (which is what Grillo Claimed), please explain to me why anyone would have cut up tire chunks in their driveway? They probably did not clean the trucks in between delivery or some dumpster trash was mixed in (again my guess/opinion). truth is the absolute defense, i do not need to lie and do not benefit from lies.

I ordered garden mix for my 2 raised beds. Took two days to put soil in the raised beds as it was just dumped on the driveway. Even that’s ok as we were told about the same. but after putting so much of hard work I have not seen any growth for the seedlings. then after a month, I decided to do the soil test . And found out that no nitrogen in the soil. How come no nitrogen in the soil if they are selling the garden mix 50:50 soil and compost. Something definitely wrong. I m very unhappy and definitely won’t order from them next time.

Excellent weed-free compost and great topsoil! Far superior to the stuff you find in plastic bags at the big box stores. And the Grillo brothers are The nicest people!

My wife ordered dirt from Grillo. They dumped a five foot high mound of dirt halfway onto the street, then drove away. A whole lane of a two way street was closed off because they did this. When my wife called, she was told they didnt have anything to move the dirt, they just have trucks to deliver it. It took me and two of my neighbors several hours to shovel the dirt and sand fully onto our property. What kind of person does that to a woman?

Ordered 1/2 chord of firewood. It had a substantial coating of mud. After stacking, it burns OK. I dont expect firewood to be clean, but not covered in mud would be great.

We just had Grillo services drop off 5 yards of mulch to our house. It was easy to order over the phone, service was friendly, and delivery was quick and neat. The mulch looks to be good quality and looks awesome put down in the yard.

Shopped around and ordered 6 yards of “high end organic garden mix”. Spent nearly $350 for garbage. This dirt is horrible, DO NOT BUY IT!! Plants will not grow, they actually grow better in my lawn! We ended up purchasing a soil test kit and tested the soil. It’s BAD, PH level was near perfect for the mix I will give them that, that N and K levels are nonexistent. Research tells me at those levels plants basically will not grow. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY here!

Unfortunately, the 10 yds. of compost I bought from Grillo Services this spring, at my landscapers recommendation, turned out to be leaf MULCH!All the seedlings and starts I planted have been stunted and yellowish. They are starving! Ive had to spend countless hours and many many additional dollars trying to get them to grow. Grillos response was to offer some fertilizer.I feel like Ive been burned!BUY SOMEWHERE ELSE and save yourself a huge headache.

We just had the best experience. We asked to look at different rock. The guy was very nice. He showed us...we picked what we wanted. They loaded. We were finished in less than 30 minutes.

I ordered 30 yards (approximately $1200 worth) of Grillos garden mix after discussing what my needs were with their staff. It arrived on May 18th. So far, 95% of my seedlings are stunted, with little to no growth since I transplanted them into this soil. Its been 4-6 weeks for most of them. I have explained the issue to Grillo and they have offered me a bag of fertiliser and some peat moss to further amend the soil, but Im really disappointed. I have lost 6 weeks of growth and regret ordering from them. Having discussed it with other experienced gardeners on a local gardening group, 4-5 others have said they have had problems with Grillos soil this year, including stunted growth.

I recently put together a nice swing set for my daughters, and enclosed the area with 4 x 4 wood railroad ties. Looked great, but needed some mulch to prevent any injuries if anyone were to fall off. I called a place in Milford, Grillo Services, and was extremely pleased with the knowledgeable staff and Service I received. The gentleman I spoke to suggested IPEMA certified playground chips. I gave him my dimensions, and received my 5 yards of chips the next day. I spread them in the area, and It came out beautiful !!!I feel at ease knowing my children are safe on their new swing set.Thank you Grillo Services.....Would highly recommend their products !!!!

I need to take a minute to let you know how unbelievable this company is. I needed a dumpster to clean out some junk from my parents house, and was recommended by many to contact Grillo Services. After talking with them, they recommended what size dumpster they thought I should need. Before I committed, I looked around at other companies to see if they really were the best deal. After doing some research, I realized quickly that many other companies will allow you to rent their dumpsters for MAYBE a week, and at almost the same price. Grillo rents you theirs for 2 WEEKS! So, I contacted them again, and let them know that I would definitely like to use them. After they recommended one of the bigger size dumpsters, I THOUGHT I knew what I was doing and requested the smaller one instead thinking I wasnt going to use up as much room as I originally thought. The driver dropped it off, and I let them know prior that it was a tight street and a small driveway. I have NO idea how he did it, but he dropped it off EFFORTLESSLY. But, little did I know, after I started working, he was right. I should have used the larger one! Well, after I contacted them, again, they actually sent me the larger one (that they originally suggested, but I didnt listen to) and swapped out the smaller one the very next day, which happened to be on Christmas Eve. They were more accommodating than I ever would have imagined. Not only did I bother them a million times, but they did absolutely everything that I requested even though im sure I drove them crazy. On Christmas Eve. Theyre amazing. I dont know what these other people are talking about on these reviews, but this company is wonderful and I would HIGHLY recommend them to absolutely anyone.

In 2017 I had organic soil delivered for my new vegetable and flower garden ~I loved the soil, my garden has flourished! This year things are looking even better. I couldn’t be more pleased!

Dont buy firewood from here. Assured on phone wood was well seasoned and ready to burn. Sent a truck and driver. He was told he couldnt get out of truck due to insurance, understand. However it is a convenient way to load unseasoned, heavy, wet firewood on people. Absolute disgrace, will not be able to use until next season. Now have to source another 3 cords somewhere else. Do not buy firewood from here as will cause glaze in your chimney and potential fire hazard.

Dont buy your topsoil here Ive done it a couple times its all wood chips this is the second time now once it rains over the winter things like that all thats left at the top where your grass cant grow anymore is wood chips

Ive ordered their organic compost and garden soil for three years now - that stuff is like magic for growing veggies! I dont know of any other services that do an organic soil or compost on a commercial scale locally. Great product, great prices, the best, friendliest customer service - what more can you ask for!

Contacted Grillo today when my regular mulch delivery service didnt answer the phone. Was surprised to find out that delivery fees were less than a company that was closer to home (ordered 4 yds of playground mulch.) Personnel were friendly on the phone even while busy. Offered same day delivery and arrived within projected time frame (12:00pm-1:00pm.) Driver (Brian) was courteous (worried about my lawn), skillful (had to navigate tight quarters to reach back yard), and friendly (to me and my children.) Good work Grillo! We will definitely be calling again!

I used Grillo for several dumpsters for the removal of trees branches, stumps, etc. I also used them for a demo container for steel pipe, concrete footings, and other MISC materials. I was very clear with what I was to use the dumpster for and discussed the appropriate sizes that I should use. I was to receive two 30 yard containers for organic materials (no stumps) and one 15 yard demo container. I used another vendor for a 30 yard container for stumps.The first two containers arrived on-time on a Friday afternoon, but were not placed where they were instructed to be placed. No problem. I scheduled the removal of one container the following afternoon (Saturday) and the delivery of a new 15 yard demo container. The following Saturday afternoon I called about the timing. They forgot to put the pick-up on the calendar and wanted to do it the following Tuesday (Monday was a holiday). Mr Grillo said his nephew took my order, but forgot to write it down. I don’t care – come pick it up! Obviously this wasnt going to work as I was using the 3 days weekend for a reason... They did come to replace the 30 yard with a 12 yard that afternoon. Yes, a 12 yard, eventhrough I ordered a 15 yard. I called to see what happened and I was told that they ran out of 15’s so they decided to deliver a 12 instead. I reminded them that I ordered a 15 for a reason - so if they didnt have a 15, why didnt they do the right thing and deliver a 20 yard instead. Grillos response - I dont know. They said to just pack it in as best as I could. I did - and when the guy came to pick it up he removed 2 steel pipes and left them in the middle of my driveway because the driver said they didn’t fit (even though they clearly did)- without my consent or knowledge - and left. I called about having them pick it up and Mr. Grillo gave me the run around for over a week. Oh yeah, we will be down there tomorrow… They still have not picked it up.Finally, they overcharged me for one of the 30 yard containers. They overcharged me for the 12 yard container because they said I exceeded the weight limit - no kidding - that is why I ordered a 15. They flat out lied to me about returning to pick up the litter they left on my driveway.Talk about a bush league operation. Pitiful - just pitiful. But what do you expect – they are in the trash business.

Great garden soil. I arrived here with my little tiny trailer attached to my VW Golf. They loaded me up with half a yard and I was on my way back to East Norwalk. A guy with a loader approached me within a minute that I arrived. He said he would be able to precisely fit the soil in the trailer and that is exactly what he did. It was only $15 for half a yard.The soil will be used for my raised bed garden.

Grillo Services may just be the best kept secret in Milford. For those who dont know, Grillos makes topsoil, a garden mix (50/50 compost and topsoil) and mulch for landscapers and commercial property owners. So why would you want to go there? They also sell to residential customers, unlike most other bulk mulch customers. They also deliver to residences.I found out about Grillo through some friends of mine who had been ordering their garden mix for years and had nothing bad to say about it. Im happy to say, neither do I. I called them about three weeks ago for some soil for my new garden, and Sean answered all my questions (how much do I need/what exactly is organic topsoil/etc) and penciled me in for a delivery the next day. The driver who dropped it off (Wayne) was friendly as well and helped me decide where to dump the soil. Three weeks later I have a thriving garden and Im ready to call them again for mulch!Thanks Grillo Services!

Grillo delivered a dumpster and put it on my driveway without putting plywood or anything else under the metal wheels of the dumpster. Their website claims that Our drivers are experienced professionals. It is their responsibility to alert you to possible dangers and hazards as well The driver didnt even bother to notice the pieces of plywood left on the driveway. The dumpster, to no ones surprise caused damage when the truck came back to remove it. Attempts to resolve this issue in a friendly manner by calling Grillo, I was informed that there were no special instructions for the driver to put the dumpster onto plywood. Is that something I as the consumer need to do? These guys are supposedly professionals and anyone who delivers dumpsters to job sites, homes and other locations should know that they cause damage to driveways and should be put on plywood. The driver was also careless and did not think to use the plywood on the driveway and placed the dumpster next to them. Would caution anyone who wants to use grillo.
