John Whigham company came when they said they would and cleaned up very well. The work, roofing for my home and garage, replacing the shingles on the front of the house plus some minor pointing work on the front porch and walkway, was done quickly.Though one of the shingles fell off about a month later (the shingles on the front dormer) they came quickly and reinstalled it properly. So, why the poor review?5 years after the job was done I had a leak in my kitchen. Ive had 5 professional roof installers come and all of them stated that the work done around the rear dormer was improper. They all independently stated that the flashing was done improperly, that is, the step flashing was never changed and there was no ice flashing installed and this resulted in a leak.Worse, the labor guarantee was for ONLY ONE YEAR which is abysmal when compared to the industry standard of 5 to 10 years. He refused to fix the problem and so now the entire rear roof has to be removed and redone.Additionally, though I should have done more homework at the time to compare prices, he overcharged based on my subsequent researching, by almost $7,000 and this was confirmed by other roofers who were subsequently asked for an estimate. He is always trying to upsell, a minor criticism, but it can be very annoying as I get the feeling that hes more interested in making a buck than doing the work.Based on his warranty alone I never should have contracted with John Whigham and I dont think anyone should.
Stop idling your trucks at 7 am for over 10 minutes. NYS Environmental Conservation Law, 6 NYCRR, Subpart 217-3, prohibits heavy duty vehicles, including non-diesel and diesel trucks and buses with a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 8,500 pounds, from idling for more than five minutes at a time. No common courtesy.
Paul, Andy, Alfredo, and the entire team were awesome! We have major roof issues, and they came, saw and conquered! We would up with a beautiful new roof that we love! Paul especially was courteous, helpful, funny, and a down to earth great guy! We would definately recommend this company!
I should have written this review last year (Spring 2017) when Johns crew did the work but the business of life got in the way. Johns crew did an EXCELLENT job of waterproofing our basement. They dug dry wells in the back and front of our house and youd never know it over a year later. The basement is completely dry and we have had absolutely no problems. They also laid GORGEOUS pavers in our back yard. The money is definitely worth it. Their crews are professional, courteous, and extremely competent.
I signed a contract 11-15-18 to have a roof leak repaired the start date was 11/20-18 the completion date 11-21-18 I gave them a $525 deposit on a $1500 repair they never started the work they never completed the work .I had sent a letter of cancellation return receipt requested my letter came back undeliverable the address on the contract was invalid and no forwarding address numerous phone calls were made to the office never returned finally I called and talk to Paul Whigham the owners brother I complained about the start date on the contract and he said “we never followed those dates“ that is unacceptable a week and a half ago they said they would return my $525 deposit I have never received it .I am a senior citizen on a fixed income I want my deposit back .
Work was done on my home by John Whigham, roof, removal and replacement of deck, also had ceiling removed and replaced in my dining room. My experience with this company has been a pleasant one the clean up after all this work was done very quickly and efficiently.I would not hesitate having them doing any further work when I need it and would recommend them to anyone I speak to. Thank you John Whigham Home Improvement.
Beware of cold calls from John Whigham Home Improvement. A man calls you and tells you he is a local handyman that will be in your neighborhood and would stop by to give you a free estimate on any work you may need. I took him up on it, had to wait one week to have someone come to look at the job. He brought a whole book of other big jobs they had successfully completed on the hope that we would hire them for a big job. Our job is small but nevertheless we were told he would call me on Monday with an estimate for the repair. No call by Wednesday so I called them and they told me my message would be delivered and I would get a call back. Move ahead to Friday and still no call. They could have told me when they saw the job that it was too small for them and I would have called another and had my repair completed. So the handyman tag is only for them get into your house and then try to sell you on big jobs. Thats shameful!
John and his men replaced my roof and attic insulation. His workers did the whole job in one day. They were very nice guys and left the house as neat as can be. I would certainly recommend them for any home improvement work. They use top of the line products too (GAF and Owens Corning).
Everything that they have done for me has been nothing short of excellent. Kitchen renovation, plumbing, electrical, painting, tile etc. I am delighted to know that I can call on them at any time for house issues requiring a contractor. I would recommend them to anyone in need of home improvements or repairs.
I had flooding in my basement and John and his men did a great job of waterproofing and repairing cracks along my basement walls. I live where there is always a lot of flooding and can say that I have had no problems in the past 5 months with dampness nor water in my basement. Just last week I had John come back to put a brick patio in my backyard and again his men did a wonderful job. They were in and out in 3 days. The men were polite and repectful to me and my neighbors. I would recommend calling them for whatever your needs would be.John, thank you for a job well done !!!
They installed a fence for us. The end section blew out after Sandy but nothing broke. I slid the pieces back and it held for a while but blew out again after the next NorEaster. I called many times to have someone to come out and look at the fence (at least 10 times. I was assured someone would come out each time, but no one ever did. I eventually gave up and repaired it myself thanks to a YouTube video. They did a good initial installation, but their after-sales service is non-existent.
I hired John Whigham to remodel my kitchen, dining room, and bathroom. Although my contractor helped rectify the issues I had during the project, there were SO MANY issues... from a leaking toilet they installed, and a horrible paint job, to a destructive flooring crew that broke my storm door and damaged the walls. Ultimately, 1 month after the project was completed, a drain pipe (installed by one of their unlicensed plumbers) under my kitchen sink, detached, flooding my cabinets and kitchen floor. The company uses mostly subcontractors that dont accept accountability for their work, nor communicate well with the other crews, while unprofessionally maligning John Whigham to me, the homeowner. Many times, I was left to orchestrate responsibilities due to the lack of communication between crews, which is not my job. At this point, I would not let the John WhighamHome Improvement company near my house again.
NOT PLEASED WITH THEIR SERVICE. I CONTRACTED THEM TO FIX MYSTAIRS SINCE THEY WERE FALLING APART. IN THE BEGINNING THEY GAVE ME A DECENT PRICE FOR THE JOB I ASKED THEM TO DO, BUT THEN THEY RAISED THE PRICE ON ME WITHOUT NOTIFYING IN ADVANCEAND THEY HAD ALREADY STARTED THE JOB WHEN I WASNT HOME.
Did a job at my parents house. My parents are really old and they did a horrible job. Fixed the bathroom in such a shoddy way resulted in flooding and charged them $12000 for a shower that needed to be replaced. Beware scam artists!
