I love to wander around to see what kind of boutique clothing has come in for each season. The toys and games of yesteryear bring back memories. Unique and humourous gifts and novelty items. The store has so much that it can be overwhelming to take it all in.

The General Store is simply iconic. If you havent been yet, plan ahead and double the amount of time you think youll be there. Check out all the nooks and crannies, too! There are goodies hiding everywhere.

Went here to eat lunch. Customer service was lacking a bit, and prices are high. But the food was pretty good.

The café is very nice! My mom and I had a very good lunch there. The interior of the store is also very nice. Unfortunately, the stuff they sell in the gift shop is not as nice. Everything is very gimmicky, generic, and overpriced. I used to go there for fun and unique items, but in my last visit I wouldnt have surprised if I found a live, laugh, love sign.

A very girly place — Chock full from first floor to the expansive upper level. Gifts, gadgets, greeting cards, garments, toys, puzzles. If you can’t find a gift you’re not trying hard enough. Nice things but nothing out of the ordinary.A nice order-at-the cafeteria-line arrangement. One word for you: POPOVERS! Go early and avoid the rush.

This is another one of places which I never realized was right next to me.The collection of art work is pretty amazing, and you should be able to find something for any age groups. The staff in location is super willing to help you with any of your questions, and you will need their help to navigate the huge store.

The store that has everything from delicacies, to sauces to kitchenware to decorations to jewelry to fishing gear to MN souvenirs & clothing to baby gear and clothing to books toys and games to womens styles you could basically shop till you drop and take a break in the Cafe which by the way makes delicious food. Salads, sandwiched, soups desserts and coffee... And the biggest popovers Ive ever seen and go back to shopping

Have shopped at General Store many times and in addition to loving their selection of gift and home items, also enjoy the delicious food in the cafe. I just partnered with them to send a dozen custom gift boxes and my experience could not have been better--super helpful, great ideas, excellent products and the whole thing was an absolute snap for me. Theyll add a very special touch to the virtual baby shower were hosting. Special shout of to Liz and Kara for their help!

This General Store is unique for various reasons. It definitely has the old fashioned feel and originality. The store takes pride in Minnesota by the choice of products and gifts you can choose from. Finally, the staff here are friendly and insightful.

A great store with lots of interesting nick-nacks, vintage toys and crafty type gifts that you really dont see anywhere else. Its a perfect place to find stocking stuffers and other gifts for that hard-to-shop-for person. Beware however, the prices arent for the faint of heart, it is quite expensive. They also have a pretty good restaurant there where you can get made-to-order sandwiches, soups, salads and flavored cream sodas. Worth a trip if you havent been, just be aware of the prices.

Worst first experience at their restaurant will not be going back. I went to this place with a friend for the first time and was very disappointed. I tried the three salad special however the woman dishing up the salads only filled the spoon not even halfway full. I get this is Minnetonka and I expected things to be pricier but if Im paying $15 for salad I expect at least a full scoop of what youre serving me. She offered me bread and was giving this tiny sliver of rock hard bread that I couldnt even eat. The chicken salad was WAY over dressed as if it had been sitting in the dressing and the rice salad with fennel was really dry. We went past lunch time so it felt like I was getting what was leftover.

Such a wonderful store. Old time, small town charm in a busy suburb. Impressive collection of one-of-a-kind gifts and treats. Almost to much to see in just one visit. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Dont forget to look upstairs as well!If you have someone in your gift list that is impossible to shop for, this is the place to go. If you cant find them something here, you might as well give up and just gift them a hug!

Really cool place that served up a divine piece of Minnesota culture. From homemade jams, to clothing with a northern flair, there is no better place to stop. An easy drive from the Twin Cities

Cutest little store. They lost a star from me because they have cut down So much on the bath section. There is barely anything left. No Christmas scents beyond pine. Still a great place to find gifts for that hard to buy for person.

So many unique gifts and foods to choose from. Can spend hours there. Gets busy fast. Would recommend going early in the week when they first open.

Needed 20 gifts Minnesota related for a meeting the next day. They had 16 and I needed 4 more...they called the supplier who then jumped in their car and drove in the other 4 I needed. Wow, staff at the General Store is so friendly and helpful! It was such a treat to shop and have lunch. There are always things to fins in the store whether kitchen, jewelry or things you didn’t know you needed. The food is always creative and savory. Thank you for this great afternoon.

I love this place. Great little Cafe for lunch and snacks. It is a fun place to finds gifts for anyone and everyone, including yourself 😉. Things are surprisingly affordable, but they do have some higher end items too. Definitely allow your self more time than you think, there is so much to look at. It does busy on weekends and around the holidays but thats because its awesome.

Rude staff. I wasn’t once acknowledged, they don’t offer any help. They all just walk around aimlessly and chit chat with each other. The place was extremely crowded when we went. And it’s too small for all the people they have in there. Probably will never be back.

I really enjoy my time when I come to the General Store in Minnetonka. The staff are great, I find it very welcoming. They keep the store really clean and organized so that I dont have to look around trying to figure out where I need to go to pick up things. I usually go when I am with my daughter and find things I need to store and then she buys them and that way I have a place to keep them all together. I got to go on a Saturday and purchased a cake cutter. Highly recommend.

One of my favorite local stores in the Twin Cities!! Fun gifts for anyone on your list - clothes, toys, jewelry, candles, gag gifts, local MN gifts & foods... they literally have it all. They also have a cute little cafe in the back with salads, soups, sandwiches, desserts, etc. Its a nice place to shop, meet a friend for lunch, bring out of town visitors. Highly recommend.

Beautifully rustic store with plenty of unique and homey items. Its my favorite place to shop, I especially enjoy visiting their Minnesota section and shopping during the Christmas season as they bring in a wonderful array of seasonal decorations.

UNIQUE! Theres none other like it. First of all, its family owned/managed and their TLC is evident, especially in the quality of customer service. This store, along with its cafe/bistro, is THE most positive retail place Ive been. Theres something for every age...even men enjoy shopping here! The display of an incredibly wide range of merchandise is so pleasing to the eye that it literally lifts ones spirit. The staff is welcoming, available and helpful...like having a personal shopper. This is simply a happy place that must be experienced!

Its the place to if you need to bring a present from Minnesota, send a Christmas gift or pretty much find anything to interesting. They have a variety of made in MN things, gift baskets and also nice, cool stuff in general. Highly recommend.

This store is unique. Lots of unique items at a unique cost. It is a boutique store that enjoys a certain popularity during the holidays. There are some things to know before you go:1. Dont even think of bringing a stroller. No space, no time, and not kid friendly with expensive items at arms reach.2. Dont even think of leaving without trying food from the cafe. Its good and provides a nice break from the overcrowded store before braving the packed walkways.3. Dont even think of spending less than $100, the merch is fun, unique, and expensive.4. Dont even think of going on a weekend over the holidays. This place is not only at capacity it is a down-right fire hazard. I shudder to think of the chaos that would ensue if one of the light displays caught on fire. People were rude just trying to navigate the store imagine what someone might do to fight their way out of an all wood building on fire....Overall, I can say that I will probably go back next year, but during the week days in the morning without our baby and after a healthy dose of Zoloft.

The restaurant is WAY too expensive for what you get!!The staff will hover over you every step you take, and they are very snobby. Its uncomfortable when you want to take your time yet staff is coming up to you every 5 minutes. Makes me think all this place cares about is how much money they can make and not the customers experience. They have a lot of stuff packed in, but that does not outweigh the negatives

I typically dont shop places like these. Ive been here twice, and both times I walked out with a big purchase. Today it was scrabble letters to spell out my last name, Im worth 14 points. If you are local or visiting, stop in for some sweet Minnesota swag.

Really busy, and a lot of great gift ideas.

There is an attempt here to be a quaint establishment. Somehow the effect is lost with all the comically expensive cars parked out front. That said, the food is good, theres a large variety of coffees, pastries, soups and salads. Theres ice cream and popovers as well. There is a ponderously winding shop in the back called a general store. It wants to be quaint but again, it is far too expensive to be quaint. Its quaint on steroids? Its odd to pretend that anyone who owns property on lake Minnetonka these days has a cabin but that seems to be the delusion the store is trying to sell. Its a bit odd, but then, if it makes you feel fancy to call your multi million dollar lake house a cabin, then I guess go for it? Most of the items for sale are decorative and novelty. Its fun to poke around but also slightly off putting if youre not living a wealthy lifestyle.

So much to look at! Its been a family tradition to visit this place whenever out-of-state family come to town. Nice variety of bigger ticket items and knick-knacks. Super cozy atmosphere and the staff are friendly and helpful.

You can find so many great things here. A great place for some Christmas shopping. Lots of Minnesotan things specifically, which is very nice.

Huge, beautiful selection of home decor, housewares, and I have never seen a wider variety of cookie cutter shapes anywhere. Lots of things you wont find anywhere else. Extra beautiful at Christmas time. They also have a nice cafe with good food. At busiest times, the side lot can get full, but there is always somewhere to park in back, if that happens.

Menu is fabulous and prices were fine. One of the girls had a mix up in her order and they took care of it very satisfactorily. Well be back soon.
