Best boat mechanic in the New Braunfels/McQueen area, J will get you taken care of no problem.
Great guy to work with. Started out with 2005 pontoon boat with 50 hp Mercury two-stroke. Called around to other local shops and they said a minimum of 30-60 days wait. Jay said 1-2 weeks. Originally brought in because the steering and throttle cables were very stiff. Jay diagnosed the problem right away and said it needed new control cables. Gave me a very reasonable estimate on the spot. While waiting for the cables to come in, I shopped for a newer motor, and found a brand-new 90 HP Mercury four-stroke for $7500 from Central Georgia Marine. They shipped it straight to Jay at his shop. Jay worked with me the whole way, no problems. Installation was perfect. Saved a ton of money over what a dealer quoted. Even helped me sell the old engine for a good price. He will be my go-to guy from here out. Definitely can recommend Jay, The Boat Doctor, to everyone.
Told us he cleaned out gas tank. Ran tank and it clogged the carbs. I took it to another shop the said gas was very old and dirty. It had never been cleaned. We have to pay to get carbs redone and to clean tank. We will never use him again
Great guy
Took my boat to have an intermittent running problem diagnosed and repaired. J Harmon, the shop owner took it out and could not find the problem and told me the cost would be $50. Figuring this was a very good price for checking it out, I asked him to replace my steering cable. While waiting for the part, they left my compartments open during a rainstorm and all of my storage areas (including the inside of my dry box) got soaked. When I went to pick up my boat, I was charged an extra $80 for the intermittent running diagnosis. In addition, he charged 246% over retail cost for the steering cable plus labor to install it. After arriving home, I learned of this extremely high price for the part and called him about it. He stated that everyone charges their own retail price for parts. Even my credit card company understood the crookedness of this transaction and credited me the overage on the price for the steering cable because the business owner would not do it. Afterwards, I took my boat out for a test run and it died immediately. I took it to another mechanic and they found 2.5 gallons of water in the gas tank. Unbelievable! Better to take it to Holiday Marine down the road where service is better and honest.
J Harmon does great work and much more than boats. Diesel vehicles, and pretty much anything else with a motor. Great place and fair prices.
Friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to answer even the dumb questions for a new boater
One of the reasons I do my own work and dont trust other mechanics. I waited 9 weeks for this shop to tell me they werent properly tooled to do the job. Simply put, they lost my trust and any future recommendations.
Just take your boat somewhere else. Looked like middle schoolers worked on my boat. Had to take it to another shop to have the work done properly.
So today when I picked my boat up I was so very shocked all i asked for is to fix my prop well he went way out of his way he replaced the throttle cable to my boat on top of that we where talking and he noticed that my wires in my boat where a triping hazard and I told him yeah I wished I could get that fixed because I have a 8 year old brother that I take fishing well I couldnt take him because of the hazard and we talked about fixing it well it was going to be way to much to fix well today after I got off work my boat was ready he said.so I got their just thinking of my prop and my throttle cable being done not the wires in my boat being done he fixed every thing up in my boat the wires are no longer in my way or a triping hazard thanks to this man Im very appreciative for that when I tried to give him a little bit more money for the wires he said he wouldnt take it he is a very good man he will not stare you wrong I give you my word if you have anything that needs to be done with your boat PLEASE take it by this place
Would not recommend to anyone they say theyre the boat doctor they have no clue and what theyre doing
Seems like nice guy and noligiable . but has more work than can handle . told me week week half . 2 weeks later hadnt started and the like 10 boats in front of me were still there also. Picked my boat up took to another shop.
Straight from the start, no bs and always responds in a timely manner. Will stick with him
Best place in New Braunfels to get your boat work done no wait time like all the other places I highly recommend
Took my boat in to be fixed because it wouldn’t start. They couldn’t diagnose the problem, but charged me almost $100.00 for a diagnosis fee. Unbelievable, now I’m left to find another shop to do another diagnostic test and I’m sure pay them for it to finally find out what the problem is. Very unprofessional service! And to respond the way you did was a joke. You don’t charge someone a diagnostic fee when you don’t have the proper tools to do a diagnostic test and can’t diagnose the problem! You owe me a refund of $100 dollars from the total I paid you to not fix my boat!
Very unprofessional, I later found out this shop is one of many trying to ruin the name of the real Boat Doctor in Aquilla TX, where I finally took our boat to after 3 boat shops could not fix it.
Very courteous, helpful, and pleasant to talk to. I will be back.
Very knowledgeable very affordable
Okay
