Having been an on/off professional musician for over 30 years I’m extremely picky and nervous about having any work done in my instruments. To illustrate the point; originally from Chicago, in the entire city I only trusted one guy to touch my stuff. Can’t believe how fortunate I was to find Whit & Corey @ Spindrift! Recently had work done on two guitars (archtop & a strat) and I’ve never been happier than with the work they did. Professional, fair prices and a quick turnaround. Can definitively say I won’t be taking anything anywhere else unless I move back to Chicago. HIGHLY recommend! Thanks boys!
What a great shop! While their selection isnt huge, its easily the most interesting around. Some sweet vintage pieces, amps too. And they do excellent work. They brought my 10 year-old Larrivee back to brand new condition and gave me an education of how to truly care for it. Dont got to a chain or online-only store, go to Spindrift.
Corey over at Spindrift Guitars customer service is second to none!Did a complete clean, and much needed set up to my wifes neglected Guild in literally days of recieving it. So pleasent to deal with and worked around our schedule to make sure he was avail in case any changes need to be made. Used quality bone nut & saddle to get it playing like a dream again! We will go no where else thank you so much!
I came across Spindrift earlier this year while looking to get my amp repaired. They have become to go- to spot for anything guitar related, and I highly recommend that all music enthusiasts stop by.First and foremost, the staff is incredible. Mike Whitney is nothing short of a magician with amps and guitars alike, and Im incredibly grateful that hes been on hand to work on my gear. All of the other staff members are friendly, knowledgable, and most of all, passionate about what they do.Additionally, their selection of guitars is fantastic. From Martins to Fenders, Taylors to rare Epiphones, there is something for everyone. Not to mention the extensive array of amps and pedals they have on hand.I recently traded my in Tele for a Strat they had on hand and could not be happier. This place is everything a guitar enthusiast can ask for and them some. If youre in need of a new guitar or just want to check out some new gear, look no further. Spindrift is top class.
I recently decided to bring my 70’s Silverface Fender Princeton Reverb into Spindrift to see if it could be brought back to life after 23 years in the attic. The amp started making tons of noise on a gig in the late 90’s and was quickly replaced by a string of amps that never sounded as good. These guys were a pleasure to do business with and I couldn’t recommend them enough. I dropped off the amp, Whit called me the next day with some questions about what I wanted from the repair, gave extremely detailed updates, and the amp truly sounds better than ever. The repair work and the service were excellent. Whit is a great amp builder and my next amplifier will most likely be a Whitney.
Bought a used classical guitar online (through Reverb). We had a quick and easy negotiation via text. I mentioned the strings looked a little funky in the pics, and was told well set it up first. I got the notice it was shipped a few hours later, and got it the next day (neighboring site). It was in mint off the shelf condition. New battery for the pickup, new strings, polished and oiled. Great seller, highly recommended.
Great folks to do business with. They have a very nice intimate shop with a knowledge staff and well rounded selection. Whit the guitar tech is awesome.
Purchased a used pickguard for a older Reverend guitar. Exactly as described. Easy people to deal with for this online purchase. Would gladly buy from again and would highly recommend anyone else give them a try if they have what you need.
Spindrift has the best service for guitar repairs in the New London area. I went in today with a minor repair for my acoustic guitar. They quickly had it fixed and sent me on my way in minutes. I have tried other places and never had this kind of service. I would highly recommend these guys.
Corey at Spindrift is an amazing person. I didnt end up buying but wanted to relay how legit they are from an online perspective. I was trolling Reverb for a Martin D12-20 and found what I thought to be the one. I put in a bid but Corey wanted to chat with me first about the guitar. After some frank conversation and additional pics I decided to pass on the guitar. During the conversation, Corey said that he always wants to speak with a buyer first just so there are no surprises and if you are familiar with Reverb and their buying system, I had committed to buy if they accepted my offer so Corey could have just completed the transaction and he would have been on the up and up, but he went the extra mile to make sure that it was the guitar I was looking for, which it ended up not being and I really appreciate the time he took. Not many places will do that!
Brought my dad’s 1940’s guitar in for repair. Corey was outstanding with an in depth explanation on what needed to be done, how we could do it, and giving an honest detailing on our choices and probable fees to get it working again. When all was said and done, he went above and beyond to make it look and sound fantastic after sitting in disrepair for 30 years for an extremely fair and agreed on price. They have certainly earned my respect and will continue to earn my business in the future.
Bought a beautiful guitar in great shape and at a reasonable price. The service was excellent and shipping happened same day as the purchase. Nicely packed and arrived safely by UPS. Wish I lived closer so I could check out the store. Thanks for helping make my dream of owning a Guild F-50R a reality, Corey!
Tech service is incredible. Instruments are high quality and fairly priced. Large selection of high quality playable in store Martins. Easy parking.
Came in asking for my electric to get fixed, and the guy at the front took the guitar to the back to see if they had the part. I played around with some of the amazing guitars in the shop, and before I knew it he came out with my guitar fixed and told me it was free of charge. Great store, great guitars, great service! Thanks!
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff, not to mention a beautiful selection of guitars. Thank you for the excellent service. Im very happy with my Martin. This was my first guitar purchase back in 2001 or 02. My dear friend, Ray lead me to this purchase way back then & to this day it is one of my most inspired purchases.
I ordered a vintage amp from Spindrift guitars. The amp unfortunately arrived dead. Spindrift was incredibly professional and helpful in getting the problem dealt with quickly and efficiently. It is now my favorite amp Ive ever owned. Thank you Spindrift and a very special thank you to Whit. You all have earned a life long fan.
Spindrift opened earlier this year in New London - as a guitar player I was curious to see what they had to offer. Most shops in the area have similar selections of run-of-the-mill, mid-level stuff. Not bad if youre just starting out, but certainly not anything that will knock your socks off.Spindrift has the most varied selection of quality instruments that I have ever seen. John or Whit will tell you; nothing in the store is a compromise - they are all built to the highest standards. Its all about getting you the guitar that is right for you.Being an employee of the social services, I am not overwhelmed by disposable income. Normally this would put a Taylor Custom 12-Fret out of my reach. John never rushed me into handing over any money to hold the guitar. I was given good, honest advice - as well as other less expensive options. It wasnt about selling a high dollar guitar; it was about getting me the instrument that was right for me.Thanks Guys!
It’s great to have a local shop encourage your will to learn. Both Corey and Whit make sure you leave ready to start playing
Spindrift Guitars is the most reasonable, knowledgeable and best guitar store I have ever done business with. Corey and the rest of the staff couldnt be easier and more fair to deal with. I travel over an hour and a half to deal in person so that should demonstrate my point. If you want quality, knowledge and most important friendly, more than fair treatment please contact them. Whether you are trading or buying or both Ive never had a better experience and Im a 70 year old guitar enthusiast who has visited many establishments over the last 30+ years.Tom Mullenbach
They Guys down at Spindrift are AWESOME!!!! We went in to look for a guitar for my son for Christmas and they treated us great! I dont know anything about guitars and they took the time to help us find the right one and explain everything. My son could not be any happier!!!! Thanks Whit!
I brought in vintage Gibson Les Paul custom for a Re fret and they completely ruined it there was surface scratches, chips in the fret board the frets were un even and buzzed. After 4 attempts bringing the guitar back to the store with the problems only half way fixed every time or even new problems I just cut my loses and brought my guitar to a real professional if you want it done right I do not recommend bringing your guitar here for major repairs
This shop is an acoustic guitar players paradise. They have an incredible selection of guitars and truly exceptional customer service. Corey is one of a kind and the reason Ive purchased 5 guitars from a shop located 2.5 hrs from my home in NYC. Needless to say, I highly recommend Spindrift.
Came into the shop after losing my favorite guitar and these guys turned my whole day around...they definitely know their stuff but more importantly they are a group of really good guys. Let me play around till I found something that fit the bill and never tried to hard sell me a thing. I for sure recommend Spindrift to anyone looking to get some serious instruments accompanied by some seriously great service. Thanks guys!
The people who work there are friendly and knowledgeable, the prices are great, and they have an amazing selection. What more can I say? 5 stars!
I bought a beautiful Fender Resonator from Corey and Emilio a couple months ago. Not only were they encouraging of my late start to learning guitar, but they even bought the guitar back for a fair price when I failed to become the next Jimi Hendrix!! Ill be back...I actually miss playing more than I thought I would...perhaps sooner than later.
Man, this is a one helluva great shop! From the selection of guitars and amps, to their complete stock of accessories and the comfy and acoustically sound demo area; Spindrift is Mecca for guitarists on the east coast....and most importantly, the staff is incredible- I recently brought in 3 of my guitars in for service and not only has the work/service/turnaround time been tremendous, but Emilio, Corey and Whit are so passionate about what they do, knowledgeable and fun to talk to that I have a hard time getting out of there! No wonder Trey Anastasio stayed there for 5 hours. For anyone serious about their gear and music this is a “must go to” music shop - I’m sure You’ll find it difficult to get out of there without picking up and plugging in...by the way, I’ve got my eyes on a Beautiful Stol 👀 I saw there today.
The staff here are low key and very knowledgeable. They did an excellent job setting up a 20 year old Rickenbacker 12 string that was in storage for as many years. The guitar plays perfectly now.
Extremely helpful and nice. Not at all pushy, and the employee helping me even taught me how to restring my guitar and gave tips for playing in general. He was very knowledgeable.
I bought a beautiful guitar from John years ago but this was BS [before spindrift]. John is a great guy to deal with - he knows his stuff, he cares about quality, and he cares about his customers. I would not hesitate to buy another guitar from John - in fact I cant wait to visit the new store!!!
Favorite place for all guitar needs, they do great work on any guitars you bring in for repair or set up, a good setup makes a huge difference and this is the place to go
Great staff and very knowledgeable about everything in their store. Always take the time to help you even if they are busy. Also the new location is really nice. Must go check it out!!!
Awesome guitar shop. There are so many unique and beautiful instruments. The guys that work there are super friendly and helpful. Very impressed.
I have purchased and consigned several guitars, pedals and accessories at Spindrift. I built an amplifier with Whitney, who is also a great instructor, along with some other guitar components. Every time Ive been there Ive learned something from everyone in there at one point or another. I would recommend starting your guitar/gear search or repair here without reservation.
I was looking for an electric pick up for my Taylor guitar and all other stores in the state did not have it in stock. Not only did Spindrift have the item in stock, they stayed past closing time to finish installing it for me. I was driving from about an hour away and arrived right before they closed. The folks there were super helpful and tested everything out when it was finished. The store is B-E-A-Utiful!! It was definitely worth the 42 miles. Thanks guys at Spindrift!!
Corey is the best. If youre looking for a nice instrument, stop by and chat with these guys.
Love this independent music store gem in New London. Amazing selection of guitars, gear and accessories. Truly professional and accommodating staff.
Knowledgeable staff, the amp guy there is awesome! Good selection of new and used gear.
Great selection. Unique brands. Quality pre-owned and vintage instruments and a knowledgeable and friendly staff! Theres a world class tune amp builder and repairman in house and a master luthier. Spindrift is a real guitar store.
Phenomenal customer service. They know their stuff. Special shout out to Corey
I purchased a pedal through Reverb from SG. Communication was excellent and the item I purchased was a described. They shipped FAST too!! After sending payment, I got a tracking number and received it next day.....just in time to play it over the weekend!!! Thanks guys!!!!
I just started playing guitar at Christmas and picked up an inexpensive Martin at Guitar Center, under a grand, to learn on and am taking lessons at Music and Arts. It has been the most fun I have had since I went to law school and am so excited. I really want to buy a pretty Martin that sounds awesome (my Martin DRS-1 sounds great but not awesome, not to mention it looks a bit austere!). The difficulty is I don’t yet deserve another guitar until I improve.Visual aesthetics are very important. I have gone into five stores around the state and since I am not Slash from G & R, nor aspire to be, I have either been snubbed or, worse yet, ignored.Contrast Spindrift. I walk in and am immediately welcomed (what a suprise). I explained where I am at and they actually treated me normal and not with the attitude of a rock god granting me an audience and somehow condescending down to my lowly level. Since I can’t play a pentatonic scale behind my neck somehow doesn’t equate to the fact that I can’t purchase, without blinking, a guitar that is worth more than the self professed Rock God makes annually ( and I don’t mean this rudely or in a negative manner / the bad things about facts are that you can’t change them). When I went Into these other stores, I sort of hoped it would be a supportive environment. If you are looking for that, would suggest you stay away from the “big guys,” unless perhaps you are Bill and Ted or Beavis and Butthead!Getting back to Spindrift...They are welcoming. They are not rude. They are not judgmental. They value your businessThey spend time with you as requires, they educate you and they accept, without judgment, where you are at in your musical journey. They are super duper knowledgeable and attentive. Dude! Lol!They answered every question I had! They gave honest advice.Even though I didn’t walk out today with a new guitar, as I was hoping to spend $2,000, they helped me select a HD-28 by Martin, that is modestly more and which I will be back for.The best advice I received from the Manager or Owner, Corey Williams (who is impressive - period), is maybe wait a few months and get what you really want after what you know your really want! Honestly, he saved me another $2,000 buying something I don’t really want or need. His explanations were awesome and he took the time required to educate me. At the bare minimum, he help me identify that I need, and want, a Martin HD-28 and may well want something on that body that is a bit ornate. How many times does someone put YOUR interest ahead of making an immediate sale? Corey did!Anyway I am blown away. What an experience. At a bare minimum I will be back to buy a HD-28 when I actually make nice sounds (not too far off) out of my current Martin.Anyone can write a five thousand dollar check. I would like to also be able to play what I purchased in a respectful manner. What great advise - thank you Corey!Make no mistake - when that happens (As I practice no less than an hour plus a day - I hope it is real soon), I am going to Spindrift Guitars. You get what you pay for and I am willing to pay for Martin and to support a local business that not only competes with, but blows away the big chains.FIVE STARS! Period.Go there today!
The staff is knowledgeable. The luthiers know their craft and theyre straight shooters. Top notch.
They really know their guitars.
Excellent store with a wide variety of top shelf new and used gear, and a friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Great selection of guitars from Taylor, Martin, Huss and dalton, Boucher McPherson, reverend, stock guitars and more. Staff was super knowledgeable and cool. No pushy sales vibes. They also build guitars and tube amps in house. Spindrift is a true guitar store.
Amazing store with great employees and a great selection of guitars
Extraordinary insight. Expensive, though.
