Absolutely love this gem. Hands down best gelato I’ve ever had. There so creative with the flavors. I have so many favorites. So just try them all. You can’t go wrong. My kids love the sorbets they make. We are not from New Orleans but every time We are in town Its a must. The customer service is excellent. They treat all there customers like family. The owners are so kind and sweet.
Took so long to serve the two groups in front of us we left after around 10 minutes. Looking at some of these other 1 star reviews are crazy, owner clearly needs to learn proper engagement on the internet
We met up with some old friends for a long weekend in New Orleans. They had never been to Nola so we wanted to share all of our favorite haunts…which meant 4 consecutive days at Piccola! I couldn’t wait to experience the exceptional service and artisanal gelato again as it had been 2 years since our last trip. Our only disappointment is that we can’t go 5 days in a row but our departure is before Ria and Ross open tomorrow! The traditional flavors are all gems of course (Pistachio, Hazelnut, Vanilla Bean, Stracciatella, etc.) but the special flavors which change daily are to die for: Zabaione, Speculoos, Cookies Black, Pumpkin, Apple Pie, etc. Ria and Ross run an outstanding gelateria and my visits there are true highlights during my time in New Orleans. An added bonus, they are a fountain of recommendations and tips to enjoy the city to its fullest! They are the best!
The only place I come for ice cream in NOLA! Ria is so sweet and their gelato is to die for! 10/10 recommend
My family and I visited New Orleans just recently, and we were really wanting to have crepes. We looked up some yummy crepe places and this one was one that popped up, so we came to this shop. The interior of the building is absolutely beautiful and welcoming. The family running the shop were so very kind! They catered to our group (10 people) perfectly! They were very nice, and very quick! They made conversation with us and kept us entertained as well. On top of the service being absolutely amazing, the drinks, the crepes, the gelato were all PERFECTLY made!!! I felt very authentic and it was just absolutely delicious. We HAD to take one of their cards and post about the amazing food all over our social media’s promoting this company. If you are interested in trying crepes in New Orleans, please give this shop a try. You will not regret it
The best gelato ever! Weve been coming here for years and its always irresistibly delicious. The customer service is outstanding as well.
We got the affogato (espresso poured over gelato) and it was the best Ive ever had.The owner served us and she was very personable and easy to talk to. I could tell she had passion for her business which was great for me because I like asking questions about businesses and enjoy getting details about the products
The service I’ve received over here was absolutely very poor. The owner was rude. I was requesting for a coffee, and asked for non-dairy milk..instead of handling it professionally..I was snapped at.
This is not an all vegan establishment. There are a few vegan options and they are referred to as sorbetto. I got a latte with soy milk, coconut sorbetto, chocolate sorbetto, mango sorbetto, and strawberry sorbetto.Latte - Espresso poured over milk. No sweetener. I got it like that to accompany my coconut & chocolate scoops.Coconut - Its rich, but not creamy where you get tired after a few spoons. Definitely has that coconuty taste with the texture of the flakes in it. Its not overly sweet.Chocolate - This is very rich and it is on the more bitter side. I absolutely adore this flavor. If youre a dark chocolate fan then you should definitely try this.Mango - It has the right authentic mango flavor. Not icy like sorbet and not creamy like ice cream. Very refreshing on a hot New Orleans afternoon.Strawberry - This is the lightest and iciest of all 4. Not that any of them is icy by any means. It isnt as strongly flavored as the others. Also a good choice for a hot day.I highly recommend giving this place a try if youre looking for gelato to satisfy vegans and non-vegans alike.
Fine, Take all my money! You cant go wrong here, especially in hot New Orleans weather. Get any flavor, get two! Affogato! Their gelato is my summer solace.
Delicious gelato with many flavors. This small, family run location takes pride in the quality and taste of their offerings. You’ll find the portions sufficient for your appetite whether you select the small or larger sizes. If you are having a party, consider the gelato cakes though be sure to ask the price to avoid a surprise. A small cake was very good for our family of 8 to share.
I would give it a million stars if i could. hands down greatest gelato i have ever put in my mouth. it was a spiritual experience and i have never felt true happiness like that first bite. PLEASE GET PASSIONFRUIT IT WAS INDESCRIBABLE. sweetest Italian lady working there- she called me sunshine and i shed a tear. i would walk 40 miles barefoot on broken glass for another bite of that gelato. please go. thank you.
The gelato etc is always AWESOME...and the people who work/own the shop are equally as amazing...love LOVE love this place...
Honestly the best gelato sincerely Italy! Beautiful and thoughtfully decorated space with an interesting way to display the available flavors. Absolutely true to flavor tastes, each smooth and creamy. The owner is genuine and kind and greets each customer like friends. Cappuccino is very very good.Tip: street parking available.
Best gelato in the city! Hands down!
Hands-down the best dessert in the city. Their gelato cake will make you change the way you think of a “cake”. 10/10 would recommend.
The best gelato I’ve ever had, and the owners are super nice.
Best Gelato EVER! Best Coffee EVER! Best Crepes/Piadinas EVER! Ria and Ross are AMAZING! Keep up the good work yall!
AMAZING gelato! Hands down the best gelato I’ve ever had! it is the real Italian gelato in NOLA! All natural ingredients with amazing texture and taste. You will not regret visiting this local small business. You can tell the owners have a passion for great hospitality and go above and beyond with every customer. Support this small local business while enjoying the BEST gelato !
The gelato is incredible! You can tell it is made from scratch. I ended up going back before my flight and purchasing more pints to take home by plane. The owners were very accommodating to package them up for me to take on short notice. My friends loved it so much they have it shipped to them in Boston now! The store is clean and nice decor. Cant wait to visit again.
DO NOT GO HERE! I went in with my dad(he is a poc) the woman working there was so rude. She got aggravated when we answered the question she asked us. She took her face she shield off and walked away from us. She began pacing back and forth. On top of all of this she was so rude to my dad for what we thought was no reason. After going we looked on Yelp and she was only rude to every older poc(person of color) and because of this we will never be returning.
Had 12+ pints of the best gelato shipped to DC so I could bring some NOLA joy here and share with friends! Shipping was quick and packaged with dry ice, so the product was in perfect condition. Some of the most amazing flavors I have ever tasted...passion fruit, nutella, sugar free raspberry, espresso latte, and SO many more! Can’t wait to be back in the shop again, in the meantime grateful to support a local business and get my hands on this delicious frozen treat!
It takes a lot to win me over to post a review. I have frequented this gem over the years and tasted everything on the menu, including the cakes! I dont know any other business in the Greater New Orleans area that takes as much pride as they do at creating and seasonally re-creating the best A-Z menu. Keep up the great work Piccola Gelateria!
Home made and delicious!!! Flavors change often and theyre all great! Try the crepes :)
AMAZING! You won’t be disappointed.
The Gelato and the coffee were both delicious. Id love to go back for the crepes!
In a word…AMAZING!! From the owners to the product. I haven’t had the pleasure to visit the shop in person, however the owners are so professional and personal I feel like I know them. I have ordered twice and I have ordered for my friends and every time, I receive fantastic recommendations of what flavors to try as well as an education on what they are, how they are made. My product arrives well packaged and frozen solid in NJ. I am getting ready to place my third order!
One of my staple places. Authentic Italian gelato!!!! The best there is in the US and there is no argument! Innovative. Fresh. Always looking forward to surprise and unexpected flavors. Theres a big sense of community here, too. The owners are hospitable & the space is warm and inviting (: The best.
Very smooth and full of flavor. Great Gelato here. We had the medium with chocolate and strawberry.
A hidden gem and I couldn’t be more appreciative of an intro from a dear friend to try an amazing affogato!! Now I won’t miss an opportunity to enjoy a creamy gelato and the pleasure of a few minutes with a remarkable husband and wife duo that hand select and create so many flavor packed options. In addition to picking up the freshest latte each day I’m in NOLA at Piccola Gelateria, I also crave the incredibly large savory homemade crepes with fresh ingredients and pesto that are sure to please! Enjoy the experience and if you have anything to celebrate (or anyone to impress), order a gelato cake and your friends and family will not stop thanking you!!
Stumbled in here on a whim after getting my hair done next door. WOW! They were super friendly and happy to give me the time to make a choice, and expect to have trouble deciding as all the flavors look amazing! Ended up with an Affogato, made with salted caramel gelato. Their espresso is top notch, equal to the gelato, and I dream of this place now. It’s been two weeks since I went and the impression made by the excellent service and quality treats can not be forgotten!
We are staying at the Alder and just walked down the street to try some gelato. This is the best gelato we have had since trying it in Italy. Warm gracious customer service! May have to grab some more before we leave town.
I was suppose to travel to New Orleans for mothers day. A friend had recommended me to stop by Piccola Gelateria for gelato. I was excited & couldnt wait to check it out, but with the pandemic I had to cancel my trip. I was so disappointed. I decided if I cant go to New Orleans and try out this gelato place. I will see if they would deliver to Massachusetts. OMG!!! I personally ordered 8 pints & I also got a few friends to order too. I got my order in the mail and it was AMAZING!! Definitely worth having it delivered. Going to order more soon. YUM!!!
So delicious! The pistachio and salted almond gelatos were both to die for
My 3 y/o daughter & I visited PG for the first time because a friend gave us a gift card. The staff was very friendly! Despite my daughter attacking the 3 ginormous bears sitting on the sofa. LOL! We had the King Cake, espresso, and a cookies & cream type gelato. All of them were great! Well definitely be going back.
My family and I love coming here. We will normally eat burgers across the street then come in for dessert. The gelato is amazing, and always enjoyable. The owners have always been super nice. My kids are learning Italian, and they love to try some of their words with the owner whom always obliges and is so very kind. Just picked up my Valentines gelato cakes, and they are amazing. Their other items are equally delicious (crepes, crossaints, etc). We will continue to come here for years to comes hopefully! You will not be disappointed if you give them a try!
A top site for delicious cafe food. I love this place, great food & service. Service treated us so kindly. It has a great feel to it.
Positively the best gelato I’ve ever had. My Nutella and Coconut flavor combo worked really well. Lots of flavor options and the most amazing consistency.
Nothing like it in New Orleans. Delicious, fresh, generous servings.
Incredible, incredible gelato. I always love the Cookies Black, but am also a fan of the special, seasonal flavors. And, awesome staff. They are so sweet with adults and tiny humans alike. Our son is a HUGE fan!
What a great place. Not only are the flavors perfect, so is the environment and owners. When you walk in, you are family. They love what they do and it shows in every aspect of the store and with every bite you take. Do yourself a favor, go there today.
This place has the best Gelato in town by far.
The gelato was absolutely amazing! The Lemon Meringue Pie was almost better than my Moms home made pie... almost! I loved the Espresso and the Caramel Sea Salt is fantastic! Watch out you will eat the entire quart! The owners were so nice and engaging, they were extremely welcoming! We will be back and we are so happy that you can ship the gelato across the country.
Deeelish and super friendly. We had gelato but may come back for a savory crepe for lunch one day. Lots of flavors and really good and a very nice and clean shop. I highly recommend.
We traveled last year to Florida and we stopped to get gelato. We chose to visit Piccola Gelateria and we were amazed with the quality, flavors and service! This year, the owner came to Houston and we ordered several flavors! Hazelnut, Pistachio, Chocolate 70%, Vanilla, Strawberry, Cardamom and my favorite Caramelized Fig with Goat cheese! Every single flavor was perfect, it tastes just like in Europe. They dont use artificial flavors and every little detail is important to them. It is definitely the place to go when you are in New Orleans or ask them to ship it to you. Owners are SUPER friendly! Trust me, you wont regret it.
We have been going to Piccola since its inception. We love the whole menu and love having them as part of the neighborhood whether at the current address or, pre-Covid, at the Freret Market. They have a great variety of flavors (including the fig goat cheese which was delicious) so one can go with a standard or be adventurous. I have also been happy with the way they have handled the current pandemic. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Ive tried their gelato twice and each time Ive had great memories of having gelato in Barcelona. Consistent and very good. This is definitely my favorite place for gelato!
As a clarify for all of my reviews, I rate the places I review based on what type and style of place it is. I rate Piccola 5 star, not because it is a 5 star restaurant, but because it is a a 5 star gelateria and coffee shop. The gelato at Piccola is on par with the gelato that we have eaten in Rome and other parts of southern Italy. The decor is on the hip - modern style and the seating is quite comfortable. We have been there three times, and each time the service was efficient and friendly. This is a great place to go to relax and have a gelato and a cappuccino and relax. My one piece of advice is that the larger the size, the better the value. The medium is a much better value than the small. A large would be great to split on a date. Best gelato in New Orleans, no offense to Brocatos.
Best. Gelato. Ever.
Fantastic gelato. The dark chocolate one is so divine!
Best cakes, best affogatos, best gelato in New Orleans! This place is amazing, the customer service is like no other! You feel so welcome once you walk through the door. If I could give this business 10 stars I would because 5 is just not enough for this business!
My wife and I ordered two coffees today and were very pleased with the quality of the service and coffee! The establishment is one of the cleanest I have seen in the city. Really impressed!
The gelato here is incredible! I’ve ordered their cakes for family events multiple times and they’ve always been a huge hit. Ria & Ross (the owners) are very sweet people too.
I’ve held onto my review because we wanted to give them another chance, but after the disappointing response this owner has given to others on here, and the clap back they tried to come at us with on social media, FOR NO REASON. SO, here goes. The service here may be great at times, judging by some of the reviews. Apparently there’s a guy that works here and he’s great. But my word, watch out if it’s his day off. Way back before The Pandemic, my family and I would walk to Bar Frances for dinner at least once a week. In January my kids and I got haircuts and decided to stop At this place for an affogato. Whoowee we were obviously a pain in the rear for the woman working the counter. Deep sighs, eye rolls, and actual finger tapping??!! My goodness, it was like she didn’t actually want our business. So, we paid for our overpriced tiny cups and vowed never to return. Save your money and visit literally anywhere else. There’s an ice cream/snowball stand just down the road a bit further. Go there. Much nicer. And the products taste better.
This gelato will take you straight to Europe. It is prepared with great care and excellent ingredients. (You can see the prep from the serving area.) It’s delicious. But just as importantly, my family and I love to stop in because the owners are so welcoming and friendly. It’s a true neighborhood shop where they know their customers.
Great gelato, excellent customer service. We have loved coming here for years as a couple, and with all of our kids in tow. The flavors range from traditional to experimental (goat cheese & fig, or saffron? Yum!), and are uniformly delicious. We are always made to feel at home. The owners have made adjustments to continue their business with common sense safety protocols, and we always feel safe and welcome. Our children insist on the gelato cakes for their birthdays and special occasions (toffee and stracciatella, please!!) And don’t forget that they have an amazing crepe special (sweet or savory), perfect for a low key, but still special, date. Think gelato, shop local!!
Had some gelato shipped up to DC through a friend who tipped me off about how amazing Piccola Gelateria is. She wasnt wrong. This was some of the best gelato Ive had, and tasted exactly like the real deal you would expect to find on the streets of Rome. I ordered a pint of the cardamom, and a pint of the 70% chocolate. The cardamom flavor was light, airy, just the right level of sweet, and melted in my mouth. The 70% chocolate one is decadent, dark, and tastes like real chocolate. Looking forward to another shipment of this heavenly stuff, and trying more of the flavors Piccola Gelateria has to offer!
Great pistachio gelato
The service very friendly.I love it. Its my favorite place to eat an icecream. So huge numbers of flavors. My favorite lavander. And my daughter favorite raspberry is so yummy
Words cannot describe how amazing this Gelato is! To top it off, the hospitality shown by Ria and Ross (the owners) cannot be beat. Their gelato is delicious and they are always coming up with new flavors. Absolutely love coming here.It is a true shame that Arnold Kirschman, the owner of the building and landlord at MKC, does everything in his power to make not only his tenants miserable but also the business owners. Will miss sitting outside and enjoying my gelato as Arnold has disallowed the use of the outdoor patio for seating. Simply ridiculous, especially during COVID times when the city is encouraging outdoor seating.
We were really displeased with the service we received today. The lady at the counter (maybe the owner) was extremely curt & rude. The gelatos were mislabeled, and so the flavor we ordered wasn’t actually the one we were looking at. She changed it after we pointed it out, but not without lecturing us. Additionally, we asked about vegan & non-vegan flavors, and again got a curt response, even though the flavors had the same name. We were very confused by the inconsistencies in the customer service, but judging by previous reviews it seems like this has happened before.
My family and I are regulars here. This is possibly the best gelato I have tasted in this country (counting a few places I have tried in NYC and LA). The owners are extremely friendly. Everyone who enters this place leaves a little bit happier. MUST TRY WHEN YOU ARE IN NEW ORLEANS!
This is height of good gelato. Eating other ice cream is just not satisfying once you’ve had this. No artificial flavors and you can TELL.
Hands down- Piccola Gelateria is BY FAR the best gelato in town, let alone the best gelato I’ve had anywhere! Quality is key and they do it well. It’s so hard to choose one favorite flavor. Definitely try the cookies black, salted peanut, amerena cherry, hazelnut, chocolate 70% (comes in dairy and non dairy!!!). There’s a flavor for everybody! On top of the amazing products they pump out, the owners are the best. Always friendly and extremely personable. They make you feel completely at home in their establishment. Please do yourself and go. Piccola is always a recommendation on my list!
AWESOME ice cream. Staff very helpful .Family Owned. Great selection. I took icecream to go.
Excellent. Great service, quality. Highly recommend.👍
One if the best places in NOLA!
Absolutely Outstanding! Real GELATO at its best! Exotic and traditional flavors to delight. Fantastic coffee classic Italian style. La Piccola Gelateria embraces with authenticity the essence of the Italian Culture!Service.....you just walk in and feel part of the family. They exceed your expectations!Honestly, I never write reviews....but these people REALLY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!Kudos 🙌🏻
Whenever I get the chance to visit Nola I’ll make sure to stop by Piccola Gelateria. I tried their passion fruit and espresso latte gelato flavors thanks to a good friend in DC who made a large order. Loved the passion fruit! If you want to try something unique, the espresso latte gelato is truly out if this world!
Wonderful place and atmosphere! Love the Gelato and the owners! Great place to have some authentic gelato!
This is the most delectable gelato I’ve ever tasted! Silky, light and yet richly flavorful. The pistachio and stracciella are amazing and true to tradition—a spoonful takes you straight to Italy in the summer. And it ships beautifully via a brilliant and innovative dry ice package! I am beyond impressed with everything Piccola Gelateria!!!
Got the gelato and expresso on the side after a huge dinner. The gelato was so nice. Super smooth, silky, place looks very clean and well organized inside, and the customer service was great. Got a tip that their cakes are super good from the lady who cuts my hair next door at Salon Vous, so cant wait to try it. Also, can we get more seating outdoor?
Best gelato in New Orleans! The service is always adorable and the ice creams are out of this world, and Im used to go to Italy and eat ice creams there... Those truly compare! I especially recommend their sorbets, its vegan and its so delicious. The pear flavor feels like biting into a juicy pear!
Friendly staff, great atmosphere, big bears and tasty food. If you are in the area you MUST try this place. So good. Cant recommend it enough.
YO - What is affogato? The best thing. Ever. No lie, no time & theirs is so freaking righteous itll jump off your tongue. Its Italian for drowned, meaning it is a healthy scoop of gelato swimming in fresh espresso - the result: creamy warm & cold dual flavor delight - for starters pick a scoop of savory gelato (think hazelnut, vanilla or pistachio), cant wait to get more adventurous with their homemade fruit flavors as I am bound to be back - and best thing is that affogato works in all seasons!!
This place is awesome!!!!! Great choices of Gelatos and the Owners are very friendly and has GREAT hospitality! I highly recommend this place if you’re in New Orleans.
