I love this store. Beautiful things. Absolutely wonderful tablecloths. Looking forward to my next trip!
Wonderful place! The lady clerk was so nice! They have all sorts of French crafts and products, like Savon de Marseille, pastilles de Abbaye de Flavigny, little santons and more!
We had a great experience. The employees indulged my wife by speaking in French. Shortly after a family that spoke Spanish came in and the employees communicated fluently in Spanish. Happy to see great customer service hasn’t been lost in this day and age.
Great store.I had been looking for a Provencal table cloth for several months and was very happy to finally find the real thing, with lots of choice, during a trip to New Orleans. They were very patient with my looking and comparing, unfolding and folding all the ones I was interested in.Even better, once I got home, I realized I had indeed bought the wrong item. I called and was immediately reassured that I could exchange through the mail. The owner kindly messaged me several photos so that I could pick the right color.Saving the address for my next trip to New Orleans!
Really cute stuff here. Staff are indeed very attentive but also friendly and passionate about their curated selection. Beautiful linens and really cute cat stuff.
Always stop in here when visiting the Quarter. Over the years, I have purchased one-of-a-kind items (tablecloths, Absinthe fountains, glasses, coasters, soaps etc.). Sonia is so knowledgeable about her items, and one feels as if one was in a quant Parisian shop. Truly a Gem De France!
We were in the store for no more than thirty seconds before both women in the store felt the need to question us about where we were from and our bag. We are traveling as a family and have a bag to carry drinks for walking around town on a hot day. They basically followed us around the store, and were eager to tell us that there were several other stores that had what we were looking for.Not only that, but their items were not that impressive. Not enough to tolerate such treatment, that is.
Ooh la la, this shop was simply le cutest!! Nearly everything here is sourced directly from France. I saw so many items I wished I had the space to own. They are on the pricey side, but several of the items were one or two of a kind and then POOF theyre gone. So if you see something you like, dont hesitate to snap it up. The ladies working there were a delight. And for an additional fee they will ship.
Yes the cat cups and plates are cute. But beware. Some may be knock offs. Does the bottom say Dubout Editions Clouet? Probably OK. IS the button blank? Maybe not.
It doesnt seem like they get many patrons besides tourists so they are attentive to the point of being hawkish / stalky. That being said - they are there to answer questions and are pleasant. They will also ship anything if you cant take it with you if you dont live in the area.
The owner is very rude!!! I was about to make a purchase, trying to decide between two sets of table cloths with napkins; I was already looking at them (her employee had unfolded them and laid them out for me to see), then she barged in with other customers and practically pushed me out of the way. And then she had the nerve to tell me that I was rude! Her employee was very embarrassed and very apologetic. I was going to refer my mother to the website -- not anymore! I was going to make a pretty hefty purchase -- not anymore!
Although very expensive, this store does have lovely items from France. My experience in the store was very poor. From the moment you set foot in the place one of the staff starts asking questions and I was not left alone for a minute by any of the staff. Someone follows you around the entire time trying to show items and pushing you to buy. They are very pushy and can be quite rude when they feel that you are not going to buy something. Terrible experience.
They have beautiful table clothes from France.
Gem de France is an authentic piece of France and French culture in the heart of New Orleans. Always a pleasure for me and my wife Deborah to drop in on this beautiful shop and to view the treasures that have been sent to us from France. Sonia is delightful. Sonia and her sales team of Gem de France are very helpful and attentive to show us the details of any and all items that we wish to have displayed to us, as well as to help us in decisions on our purchases. We highly recommend your visit and shopping at Gem de France in the French Quarter.
Very good service and nifty finds. I visited this store twice on my trip to NO. Hope to return!
Love their linens. The owner is so helpful and kind.
If I could give them a 0 I would .Very agressive staff .I asked that they hold a tablecloth so I could measure and call them back. They immediately shipped the wrong size. Would, not work with me when I contacted them. . Dont even darken their door .Not a good experience at all .
The owner is going home to visit tomorrow. Very informative.
Kind of disappointed. Cute shop but the ladies running it were rude. After they followed my daughter & I around the store they made it clear they didnt have anything wed be looking for. As I left, I asked my daughter, Am I paranoid, or did they really not want us in there? To which she replied, It was pretty obvious they didnt. Rudest treatment ever.
Wonderful little shop, always make it a stop on trips to the quarter.
Beautiful things from France.
Sales clerks are very snobby.
Fun place
Horrible experience.
Cool stuff
Extremely rude!
