Paul was absolutely wonderful to work with. We have purchased from him in the past and will continue to do so. Quality and knowledge are top-notch. Very dedicated and truly enjoys helping individuals of all skill levels. If youre looking for a high-end instrument this is the place to start.
I bought my first bow from Paul in 1975 when I was 15 years old, won the Oregon State solo contest in 1978, studied with Paul Bellam (Julliard School) in Portland, orchestral studies with James DePriest at the University of Washington, conducting and viola with Russian masters at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the art of teaching with Robert Culver at the University of Michigan......all with Paul Schuback instruments!Paul has become my friend for life due to his continued commitment to what works best for me, our history (he is more about relationships as opposed to all about money), and because of his relaxed yet purposeful attitude (he is so patient!), attention to detail, and his amazing ear for what makes an instrument go to the next level....it might be strings, it might be a new end pin, it might be a sound post adjustment, his level of skill and experience is so profound that nothing daunts him...he has seen it all. He has worked on multi-million dollar instruments but gives the same attention to those of us on a more modest income....all the while treating you like royalty.I have never written a review for anyone, but this one was easy to write.Today my bass was a wreck, and all I asked him to do was inlay some boxwood into the fingerboard....difficult at best for most people. Paul whipped that out in record time and went the extra mile by installing a carbon fiber end-pin and completely replacing the sound post because it was, unbeknownst to me, too short! The sound of my bass was noticeably enhanced when he was through....and that was not what I even came into his shop for! He was able to do more in two hours than most people could do in two days. And, he took care of several other customers in a relaxed way while going the extra mile for me. That is the mark of the Master. Paul Schuback is an Oregon treasure. There are few truly brilliant people in the violin business, but I found one of them in 1975 and have stayed with him ever since.I cannot wait to go back to his gigantic shop again in Newberg! To me it was like a musical trip to Disneyland.
This is a wonderful place. They make violins here. I would recommend this place to anyone that enjoys playing/getting the best violins on the market.
Paul is very knowledgeable, and took the time to help me figure out what I really wanted/needed. I bought my cello about five years ago and he always tunes it up and fiddles with it when it needs it for no charge. He worked hard to find me a slightly smaller cello for my size. He is also just resource for all things violin and cello. I am really glad that I got mine in town from this shop.
Very knowlegeable, interesting and helpful, Mr Schuback. Thank you.
Paul is one of the nicest people you’ll meet. He is very knowledgeable and a very excellent professional engineer. I highly recommend anyone to go to Paul for their violin or cello needs and resources.
Paul seems knowledgeable about violins but seeing him outside of his shop he appears to be a psychopath. Ive brought my violin to his shop before and he seemed a little weird. Recently I saw him interacting with someone who was not a customer of his but where he was the customer and Ive never felt so bad for someone dealing with a psycho customer. I will definitely not be returning to this shop.
Paul Schuback is amazingly knowledgeable and took his time with my daughter when we were looking at putting her in a full size cello.
I bought a very nice cello here recently. Paul was extremely helpful with payments and picking out a cello and case.
