I needed an upgrade from my current stunt kite for two reasons...1) I wanted something more advanced and 2) I couldnt find my old kite that Ive had for years. I visited 3 different kite stores from Lincoln City to Newport and all were great places with fantastic people working there, but it was at The Kite Company where I found what I was looking for. After talking with a very knowledgeable sales person, I decided on the Acrobatx by Flying Wings. As soon as I got her in the air the next day, I had a huge smile on my face and I knew that I had picked the right one for me. A great shop with a HUGE selection and incredible people working there!

We travel fulltime in an RV and happened upon this shop while visiting Newport. My sons and I went in to check it out and see if we could find something for when we go to the beach.For clarity, we are terrible kite fliers. If there are professional kite fliers, we are the anti-professional version.We had meandered about the shop for a bit and were having a small disagreement on which kite we should buy because I thought having a huge flying shark was way more entertaining than the bird kite my kid wanted. Alas, we were at an impasse.That’s when one of the employees happened upon us and we lamented our disagreement. Well, after listening to our wants, he did not suggest either of those two kites. Instead, he suggested a whole different kite, much to mine and my child’s disappointment.But, while listening to our kite differences, we mentioned we had two kites that we had bought from a box store that we had the hardest time flying due to the handle. And that we are terrible at kite flying. My older son went and got the two kites from our vehicle while the employee showed me new handle options.When my son brought the kite in, the employee took the kite back to their workshop area, where I believe one of the owners looked at it. She fixed one of the cross pieces and recommended a better handle, as well as looked over the kites to make sure they were “healthy”. They were.We then discussed the kites, how to fly and when to fly them.I appreciated the honesty about the kites we had as being decent quality. Frankly, we could have just bought two new handles and been good. But, we ended up agreeing on the one they had first recommended and buying it, plus two handles for our old kites.Well, the two new handles haven’t been opened yet because the three of us fight over this kite. It’s super easy to fly, packs up compactly, and has yet to five bomb any of us, or other beach goers. Success!Thank you for helping us find something we all like. It’s a huge accomplishment! And for not trying to upsell us something we didn’t really need. I sincerely appreciate the honesty about the kites we already had and helping us make them better.

I visited this shop while visiting Oregon about a week ago. Initially, when looking at the kites a recommendation was given for a kite but I made the bad decision to go cheaper. That was a mistake. The kite I chose was not the right kind to fly on the beach in strong wind. I called the shop and asked if I could upgrade to the kite that was recommended. The owner said yes and long story short the next few days we had so much fun flying our kite. It is durable and beautiful and so easy to fly. My kids had a great time. Thank you so much Kite Company for being knowledgeable and nice.

From selection of the kite we bought to the knowledgeable kite schooling we received I can tell you. This is the Best place to get your kite. Knowledgeable staff. Prompt friendly customer service. We left happy knowing we have the knowledge in knowing how to fly our kite correctly. Which keeps us from ruining our investment. And, increases overall happiness and fun.

Very friendly and knowledgeable owner. We buy at least 1 kite from him everytime we are in town. More than happy to answer any questions and will take the time to show you how to work the kites. He even offered to teach me how to fly a 4 line kite after he got off work!!! One kite we purchased the other day was torn on the 1st flight, seems manufacturer issue, and he replaced it no questions asked. Highly recommend!!! Will buy another kite from him when were in town next year, maybe take him up on his offer.

This place is absolutely worth going to! The owner and staff have always been beyond helpful and extremely knowledgeable. We make a trip out here every time we visit the coast. Husband has purchased numerous kites from here and will continue to visit the kite company!

We saw the colorful store and turned around to stop in (easy parking one block down the hill even for RV). We are so glad we did. We purchased several nice kites and other wind decorations. We purchased nicer, steerable kites and were surprised when we were offered a short training session on the care and use of the kites. At first we thought, we have been flying kites since we were kids, what could we learn. We were wrong, in less than 20 minutes we learned how to attach the strings properly, how to reduce the chances of damaging our kites, how to put them away and store them to make the next use easier (no tangled lines), and how to control the kites once they are in the air. The assistance provided in finding the right kites and the extra guidance made for a great kite flying experience. While we went for the nicer kites, there is also a great selection of kites for all ages and price ranges.

Great selection of kites and tapestries. I love the Ocean themed tapestries in the window. I bought Seahorse tapestry for under $30.00. Staff is friendly and helpful. A must see for all kite lovers. Make sure to make this part of the Newport experience!

The owner is amazing. He exemplifies the meaning of good customer service. He not only fixed our kite (too hard of a nose dive into the sand) he gave us great tips on a new frame less kite. This is a REAL kite shop...

This is an amazing kite shop! I have been flying stunt kites for over 40 years. I came in hoping to buy repair parts for several kites but instead the owner and his son spent over three hours repairing all of my 6 stunt kites, delta kite, box Kites and even a homemade kite for the cost of the materials alone. They returned my 20 to 40 year old Kites to near new condition. I was totally blown away! While I was there I noticed that they had one of the best collections of kite flying supplies on the Pacific coast. I witnessed the owner give a very thorough set of flying instructions to a novice Kite flyer Who was buying their first stunt kite. If you love kites like I do, don’t miss the shop

Needed a kite fixed and they got it done in a half a day, despite being pretty busy. Great staff and good selection and prices on kites. They will also walk you through how to set up your kite if needed as well as tips on how to fly them. Only kite store we go to when on the Oregon coast.

I broke the center piece on our kite and went in to get another one. Didnt have any that fit so he took other parts drilled them out and made it work. Took about half hour of his time and only charged $6. GREAT customer service!!!

If you cant find a kite here you should stick to paper airplanes ;) they have a great selection from beginner to advanced.We purchased a stunt kite and the gentleman helping us even gave us a quick demo on setup, operation tips and breakdown. Overall a great experience, would highly recommend if your spending time on the coast near newport.

The owner Keith is definitely the nicest most knowledgeable kitesmith Ive ever talked with. I stopped in to buy just a fun kite for my mothers birthday gift, and ended up buying a beginner model for her and a more advanced stunt kite for myself. These things are so much fun! He gave a great tutorial to keep our kites flying high and true. Very great store and employees, if youre passing thru Newport be sure to stop and see them and pick yourself up a new kite!

I waited an extra 10 min in line while the owner made conversation with a customer about their children. Then when I was at the register, she didnt even try to make conversation with me, or even a greeting. I really found it extremely rude and felt unequal to that other customer because I didnt have children. So warning, you might be treated unequally if you dont have children. They have lost a customer.

We came here looking to buy some kite string for and old stunt kite we bought at a thrift store. To our surprise, the owner had us bring in our kite to verify what kind of string we would need. Not only did he get us the correct string needed, he also adjusted our kite and inspected it for a safe flight. The owner was very knowledgeable with kites and so nice to talk to. He gave us some pointers and some great tips on flying our kite correctly. We made it to the beach and the kite worked great. It was so much fun to fly and learn about our kite. Exceptional customer service. Keith set me up with a small, foldable kite that will fly in wind between 6 and 20 miles an hour, wont be hard for my 5 year old to control, and is small enough to fit in a glove box. He also strung the kite for me and taught me how to tie the kite string up for easy deployment and no tangling.

The lady that was in there was very nice and great and very helpful with us with finding the Right one for us and we had a fun time with are Kites .

Great group of people, excellent customer service, quality products! Gave us plenty of room to shop, but checked in from time to time to be sure we were still doing okay. Purchased a sizable stunt kite- much larger than Im used to. They brought the kite out from the back, opened it up to make sure everything assembled correctly, and walked me through all the features step by step. Will be back on our next vacation to purchase a kite that doesnt drag my wife down the beach!

I purchased a “Cherry Bomb” kite 15 years ago for this store. Flash to the present and I had a rip that needed to be repaired on the same kite. They happily made the repair and in a very quick time period!If your on the beach and you have wind, you need a kite! I highly recommend the Kite Company!

Such a cool store! I never thought about how impressive kites could be. I would have enjoyed chatting with the people working there more, but I think it was too obvious I was a tourist who wasnt likely to buy a kite. You should definitely pop in there if only to look at the beautiful colors. Along with kites they have other decorations and stuff that are wind oriented.

A great kite store. Will walk you through the kite setting up, flying, and putting away process completely. You will feel like a professional before you walk out the door with your new kite. Any issues with your new kite, the kite company will fix, even after you take it home. We bought sport kites and I could fly mine pretty well after the complimentary kite lesson. The kids and husband were pros right away.

This store is great. The staff is super helpful and very friendly. They have a wealth of information about the wide range of kites there. I travel from the Seattle area just to visit this shop. I am happy I stopped while I was driving by. The store is also very easy to notice from the road and parking has never been a problem.

Came in while on anniversary weekend with my boyfriend, looking for a first kite experience. I definitely got that, with all the knowledge to make me a pro also, but that was free! We ended up getting a Symphony Pro 1.8 and could not be more pleased, it’s similar to a parasail but don’t Drag us down the beach from the 20+ winds. Will be back for my upgrade when I’m ready!

We brought in a whole bag of old busted up kites and the owner helped out a ton by getting all of our broken parts fixed up! He had us on the beach flying in less than 1/2 hour at a very reasonable price. Really great store!A++++
