We live out of state and my daughter is a college student. Lydell was recommended to us and they did not disappoint. The customer service was top notch and they didnt stop until they figured out the issue. I am glad she has them to go back to!

Brought my car is and told them I knew that the problem was the ABS module and it had to be fixed be either trying to repair the part due to a false connection or just replacing the whole part if needed. I clearly explain that the ABS module was the problem. 2 days go by with no calls so I decided to give them a call myself. They explained that theyve been trying to find the problem the whole time and they cant figure it out because those are not the codes coming up with a problem..... After I clearly stated I knew exactly what the problem was. So I decided to just pick the car up and bring it elsewhere. When I get there Im charged with 500 dollars in labor and tools used to try and find the problem. The car still not fixed and 500 dollars down the drain for them to play around doing nothing. Highly recommend bringing your car elsewhere.Update: the car was fixed at another shop close by with parts and labor for 150 dollars less than it took them to say they cant find the problem.

I was returning from a business trip when my 08 A6 wouldnt start. I was 3 1/2 hours from home. I used Google to search for a non-dealer repair shop and I found Lydell Motors who specialize in European cars. Jim, my initial contact, couldnt have been more helpful. I had my car towed to Lydell after they closed for the day. By 10:30 the following day I was able to finish the return trip home. Jim and Mark at Lydell Motors diagnosed the issue, ordered parts and had me moving far more quickly than I had anticipated. What was the start of a nightmare turned into a very pleasant experience. I highly recommend Lydell Motors.

Been using Mark since my Jaguar days in 1998. Have had BMW since and have replced everything from an engine in a 525 (retired) to regular work on my 650 convertable and x3. Each time ANY car is in for repair I always get a call as to what is going on. Lydell Motors is like a doctor--you need to trust them. I do and I have confidently referred several owners with no regret.

Mark and team are very professional and deliver good, quality work. We started taking our older European cars there (VW and BMW) because of their good service and overall value.

Had an issue with the engine in my 2012 VW GTI and took it into Lydell. It took a bit longer than expected, but Mark (the owner) and Jim kept me informed throughout the process with regular phone calls explaining what they were doing and why. Ultimately they helped me out a lot in terms of the labor that was involved in the job, and my car ran great at the end. Hugely satisfied with the work and would highly recommend.

Ordered tires through Tire Rack and immediately upon delivery was scheduled and installation was complete. Great communication and an important aspect of the service is Lydell’s care in mounting the new tires as they do it RIGHT. No wheel damage that is all too common at lesser skilled shops. Not the first time using their services and wouldn’t go anywhere else.

I’m relatively new to town and have only used dealerships in the past. Two different dealerships were telling me opposite things and the expected costs were in the $1000s. I took my care to Lydell Motors instead. They were incredibly nice, knowledgeable, and professional. They clearly take the fact that this is a family business and the legacy of their dad. I left paying $60, reassured, and will be a customer as long as I live in the area.

I always go to Lydell Motors when there is something I cannot do on my own, like tires, or major engine work. Mark is the best to deal with always super friendly and the shop always does really good work. Go to them before you go to a dealer they do much better work for a more reasonable price as well!

I needed a tire rotation and balance. Lydell uses the Hunter Road Force Balancer which I prefer. Plus he always keeps the balance weights on the inside for as theirs.The tires are perfectly smooth now. Mark had he on my way in no time and the bill was quite reasonable.

I called the shop to get a quote to replace the PCV system in my 1994 Volvo 850. The car ran great as is but I wanted to get this preventative maintenance out of the way for peace of mind as it is good practice for a high mileage car like mine.••••Anyways, I called for an estimate and told them what I needed. A short while later they called me back and told me the entire job with parts and labor would come to $670.00. I’ve gotten this service done on a few cars in the past and this is right around the same price I’ve paid elsewhere so I agreed an we set up a date for me to drop off my car.I was told it would take about 2 full days. Well 2 days later on a Friday I hadn’t heard anything so I gave them a ring and was told that they needed a new hose for my car and that it wouldn’t be in till Monday but that it will be all set on Monday. I said ok and that was that. No other information. Fast forward to Wednesday when it is finally done I make the trip out there and when I get to the front desk I am handed an invoice for $1,350.00, almost double was my estimate was. I told them that must be some mistake, I was quoted $670.00 and I was never told that the price was going to higher by a significant amount. Now, I know the new “hose” was going to be extra, but since they never went into detail about the price I didn’t expect that at all. No one was transparent with me at all.So I told him that the price is ridiculous, what they did was not fair or legal for that matter. Transparency in pricing is regulated in CT and price gouging like this isn’t going to work out for them. I told him we would have to figure this out. So I left my car there and went on my way.When I got home I decided to look up the google reviews for Lydell, and I see something that looks peculiar. A brand new review, only 1 hour old at the time, and if you scroll down a little bit I’m sure you can find it. The review is from a “Randy Rajaniemi” and it states “nice people and very knowledgeable. Replaced the PCV system on my 1994 Volvo 850. Finding parts was an issue, but they got it done. I’ll use them again when needed.”This is “Randy Rajaniemi’s” only google review that he’s ever written, on the very same day that I’m supposed to pick up my car, at the very same time, on the same exact year, make, and model vehicle, and supposedly having the same exact service done. I think this is too big of a coincidence so I did some digging and discovered that this review was left by a marketing agency that leaves reviews in exchange for payment. As you can see, lydell motors has a lot of reviews from people that have ONLY left one review, only for their business.I called my lawyer the next day and let her know the situation. She told me what they did (giving me an estimate and surprising me with an invoice that was twice as much without warning) is not legal.I also spoke to my uncle who is a police officer in Hamden and he told me I can just take my car back. So that’s what I did with my spare key. And when I pick my car up, I leave a check for $739.00 (their estimate + an extra 10%) in the drop box with a note that explains the situation.Well on the 10 minute drive home my car ran like absolute garbage. It stalled out twice, and sounded and felt like a Harley. It ran absolutely fine before I brought it in to them. Before I brought it in I read the engine faults and had 1 for oxygen sensor, when I picked my car up from them I had 8 engine faults. I had to bring it to different mechanic to fix their mistakes. The new mechanic couldn’t believe what Lydell had done to my car. Whoever worked on my car clearly was not qualified and never bothered to test drive my car because if they did it would be clear to them that something was very wrong with the vehicle. I called my bank and canceled to check I left them. What an absolute nightmare. I’m lucky I recorded the phone call of the initial estimate, and that after the ordeal I found a reliable Volvo mechanic. All in all they were not transparent with me and assumed I don’t know anything about my car.

Great work and fair price. I had some work done on my Lexus here. They flushed my brake fluid and my power steering fluid, which had not been done in a long time and the fluids were very bad. I also had my front brakes done while it was in the shop. There was a noticeable difference in the brake pedal feel once the brake fluid had been changed. The pedal did not feel soft anymore. Thanks again!

This place is the worst garage you could ever pick around here! About 5 visits 5 grand and a check engine light still on. They don’t care they’re taking a families money. I came in with a vibration in the front of my car at 60mph to 70mph...seemed very obvious it was a balance issue.They kept the car all day and sent me home with the same vibration in the front of my car.They said they road force balanced it, no paperwork / print-outs to prove this, they just blamed the vibration on parts that were only 6 months old, and tried to sell me a $1000 job. They refused re-balance unless I paid for this job.I took the car to Townfair, they checked the front wheels on THEIR balancing machine and just as suspected, OUT OF BALANCE!Townfair properly balanced the two front wheels and vuala... vibration is GONE!Lydell refused to refund my money. They never provided proof they touched a thing on my car.STAY AWAY they just want to up-sell jobs you do not need.Funny thing is, before I could pull off the lot the first time, before I came back to report the vibration was still there, Mark the manager ran out to my car to ASK me to leave him a good Yelp review!The nerve!
