Out of business soon? This is not the first location to close. They are out of most of their ingredients. Simple things. It appears they dont have the money for normal operating expenses. Its unfortunate because this used to have such amazing options and the concept should have taken off. Loved all the options for the base such as the cream, soy, or almond milk. Very sad.
We came last Saturday and the line was out the door. The employee deserves 5 stars because they were short staffed and she kept her cool. Management or whoever is in charge deserves less than 1 star. How is there 1 employee on the weekend? And half of the toppings or mix-ins were out. This used to be my favorite spot but somethings need to change.
My wife and I were passing through Ogden and had a wonderful Thai dinner. We were very hungry for some ice cream dessert and, as we were walking from the Thai restaurant we found an ice cream place that intrigued us. It was Sub Zero. I ordered a coffee ice cream and as we were watching the process of making it we felt very sorry for the staff as it involved a very repetitive, tiresome, manually intensive process. The coffee flavoring was a couple of squirts from what appeared to be some liquid that resembled the color of coffee. The taste was awful and ruined the evening dining out experience for both my wife and me. The entire production is nothing more than performance as it has nothing to do with quality of the product. Never again.
Took my wife and three kids. They got the regular ice cream and really liked it. I got the sugar free key lime and it was terrible. Couldn’t eat four bites. I can only speculate the kid forgot to add some kind of artificial sweetener to the almond milk but it tasted like straight lime juice. A wee bit pricey overall but that’s 2021
Used to love coming here. So tired of everyone having a covid excuse. There is never an excuse for service and, treating people kind. The kids working, are very rude. Trying to talk the guy rolls his eyes the girl never even acknowledge anything said.Besides the service, they have no topping the simplest thing as a chocolate chip,Oreos, gummy bears all out of stock and they said covid.Target, Walmart anywhere has that. All said and done I would not recommend wasting your time, it’s your basic franchise that the owner whomever it is doesn’t take into account of taking care of his or her place.
Wish I would’ve know that they were CLOSED before driving 20 minutes out here. Hours should be updated on here. Apparently they’re renovating and have been for a while. Extremely disappointed. This was my go to spot. Guess I will have to find somewhere else.
If I could give them 0 stars, I would. This Sub Zero is definitely THE WORST. I usually don’t take the time to leave a review, but oh man!We love Sub Zero and we used to go all the time when living in Lehi. Once we moved to Perry, UT the only one on the way from work is this one in Ogden. We have gone 3 times, and they can’t never prepare what we ask for (milkshakes). The first time was because they didn’t have ice, we were confused because we never saw the others sub zeros using ice to prepare our milkshake, but ok, then the second time it was because the blender wasn’t working, and the third time was the ice excuse again. We either think the person on that shift doesn’t want to work o doesn’t know how to prepare a milkshake (we went lo Lehi to run some errands the weekend after the first time we tried to get milkshakes and the employee at the Lehi one said that they don’t use ice for milkshakes 🤷🏻♀️ )We give up! I guess we will get sub zero when visiting further south now. (Tip: the one in downtown Provo is definitely the best one 😉)
I LOVE this place! I just visited Sub Zero in downtown Ogden by Newgate Mall. It was my first time to try it. I thought it was just a popular and highly spoken of ice cream shop. I had no idea how wonderfully wrong I was. Fresh custard made to order in front of my eyes! I chose strawberry and raspberry. Watched Vallica mix it all up by hand. Then while she, Audrey, Ansley and I got acquainted in the way you dont see in big city mass food chains, I saw my ice cream being------WHAT??? frozen in front of me with---- WHAT?! Liquid nitrigen?! Nooo way! YES! ITS TRUE! And its AWESOME! Take your taste buds, your sweetheart, and your kids to experience this creamy, delicious burst of fresh, smooth flavor. Pure innovation and deliciousness!!!
Went there to get some treats and out of stuff. The 2 different ones I picked were out. Have can you have no peanutbutter or cheese cake when 2 of your specials have it. Terrible place
Amazing best ice cream Ive ever had
My 7 yr old did not approve and said it’s 1 star she didn’t like the way it taste and the Swedish fish were hard 🤷🏽♀️
Delicious ice cream with lots of options for all!
Love this place. We go here all the time for a sweet treat. The custard base ice cream is amazing. Fun little place for date night.
I have always loved sub zero because they have dairy free ice cream options. But it is so frustrating when business’s don’t update their website with their days and hours that their open or on an answering machine. Do they just expect all their customers to drive to their business to read a sign posted on their door? It’s very inconsiderate. We tried calling to verify that they were open like their website said but the phone just rang and rang. A simple answering machine could have let us know they weren’t open or just simply updating their website. Bad business. It’s fine if hours have changed due to Covid, but just let us know!
Youre not even open how ridiculous is that
I bought three ice creams and the total was supposed to be $18.14, however, I was charged twice. I ended up paying $36.28. I dont mind paying the amount that is owed, but $36 for 3 simple ice creams is a little ridiculous. I went and asked them to return the amount they overcharged and they did not help. The ice cream is fine, but the costumer service was atrocious. Would not recommend.
Every time I come here, I get really good service. The taste is great, the price is good for what I get, and Ashleigh, the person who helped me, was super kind. She is an amazing worker and she makes really good ice cream!
Me and my husband tried subzero for the first time a couple weeks ago while we were out of town in California and we loved it. We both got theyre sensations and we loved that you can choose ice cream (I prefer) or frozen yogurt (my husband prefers). Decided to try the one in Ogden tonight. Employees had no customer service skills at all. They said they were out of frozen yogurt and waffle cones after they already started preparing them. Asked if there was a discount on the sensations since theyre were no waffle cones and the girl just ignored me. She handed me mine and none of the toppings it was supposed to come with were on it. Had to ask for them. Much different experience than the one in California. Hopefully the Layton one is better.
Order via door dash took 45 min to get delivered, order was wrong and completely melted. Use Cold stone or Baskin Robbins. 2nd time Ive had issues.
Yummy ice cream. Because of the freezing process (which is a novelty worth seeing), sometimes the ice cream can be a little clumpy. However, it still tastes great. Having the choice in your base and the level of sugar is pretty awesome, too. Definitely worth checking into if you enjoy a sweet treat but feel guilty about too much sugar. In my visit, I really enjoyed the blueberry ice cream with graham cracker bits and a waffle bowl. Delicious!
The best, smoothest ice cream. And I love the mix-ins and how they just fold them in, without crushing them into a powder, so that I can taste every flavor. The waffle cones taste freshly made, really good
I was excited thought I would finally be able to get a vegan sugar free ice cream Im allergic to Dairy and diabetic so I havent had ice cream in quite a while, turns out its one or the other. Then found out they were out of sugar free! Really burst my bubble.
Delicious food, prepared quickly, with great customer service. The price is a little more than some places but the ice cream is fantastic, well worth the price.
Could have been a lot of fun for me, my wife, and kids, however, there was absolutely no interaction with customers, workers did their job with blank looks on there faces and said nothing. The mediocre flavor of the ice cream would have been acceptable with the right atmosphere and interaction. Could have been a cool experience Id do again, and invite guests and friends to join me at, however, it was an expensive and disappointing end to a nice evening. On a side note, not once in the 40 minutes we spent there did a single employee wash their hands, and none of them were wearing gloves. Id avoid the Ogden Utah store, hopefully some of the other branches are more customer centric and sanitary
We love the ice cream here! It is a bit pricey, but SO YUMMY! The girls working were very helpful with suggestions and even showed us how they make the ice cream.
Staff was super friendly. She made some great suggestions and my Ive cream was delicious. Then beeing Thursday I got a shake for 50% off! And they offer a military discount on top of that amazing discount.
First time there and the staff was super friendly and very helpful. They even froze it extra to make it back to my hotel.
I really like Sub Zero, it is something different to fulfill that sweet tooth craving. I love to go here after a movie, raptors ball game, or even after bowling a few rounds. They use liquid nitrogen to freeze the base after you choose from over 30 different options of flavors to create your masterpiece.
I typically love coming here, but tonight was an exception. I have never been here at night, but we wanted to treat our daughter for her growth today. Diana and the other young girl, I didnt get a look at her name tag, showed very little desire for performing actual customer service. They were slow to come to the front even though the place was pretty empty. They didnt put nearly enough of the flavor syrup in my wifes shake (it tasted like cold milk, thats it). They made themselves a treat and then headed to the back. In plain view of the customers, they decided to just relax, eat their creations, and vape while watching Mother. I would not call that a family friendly movie, to stay the very least, and they made no effort to ensure we werent able to see what they were doing back there.Update: Since my initial review of this location, I have not had any more issues. The staff is helpful, dessert always tastes great, and all customers are treated with respect. They really turned this one around.
Honestly this was a pretty cool experience. The staff was nice and helpful. The ice cream was just okay and the price was rather expensive.
Very interesting watching them make the ice cream right in front of you! Everyone should experience it.
So the one and only time Ive even been to this place was shortly after it opened YEARS ago so I didnt know what was good or what they really had and Im not a big icecream lover but the guy there was sooo detailed while helping us! He threw out ideas, recommendations, detailed flavor profiles of each item. Because he did so I was able to actually pick out an icecream I LOVED! It was the citrus something and omg it was amazing, Iwouldnt have known to order that without his help! ❤👊 awsome customer service
It is really neat to watch them make the ice cream right in front of you. The ice cream is super tasty and there is a wide selection of menu items and you can choose your own flavors if the menu doesnt suit you.
Huckleberry with cheesecake was the bomb! 💣 fast and friendly service.
My first time at this chain, and probably my last. Its sole appeal, as far as I can tell, is the novelty concept of watching ice cream get made with a nitrogen blast. I had the coconut milk base with butter pecan flavor, and it really didnt taste anything like butter pecan. Maybe the other bases are better. The end result was just okay, nothing great. Not at all worth the price.
Friendly staff, clean conditions, reasonable prices, and tasty science. What more can you ask? Definitely worth a try, or ten.
6-1-2019, 10pm. We ordered and paid for a large butter pecan with no fixins and the girl served us a regular. I said, Im sorry, but we ordered a Large. She said, that is a large, but it looks smaller because there arent any fixins in it.I asked to see the Lg. container compared to the regular container and sure enough, she had made us a regular. So I insisted that she make us a Lg. So then she said with disgust, fine but its just going to be the same amount anyway. And then, she told the other gal who was helping, make this next one look bigger.I thought to myself, Did she just say that? Same size, just make it look bigger? Right in front of my face? And indeed, she served us the same regular amount of ice cream in a large container . . . I asked to speak with the owner who wasnt available. I really wonder how many customers have been ripped off in this place?
Ive never had ice cream frozen in front of me before and I can say it was an experience. I was a little overwhelmed with all the options I had but the staff helped me out! The small serving is two big scoops and I couldnt finish it so keep that in mind! Wonderful place! The banana ice cream was wonderful.
Horrible service!! The girl making the ice cream was put out because she had to work. She was extremely rude.
LACTOSE INTOLERANT..... BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!My daughter told the employee that she was lactose intolerant. She made the ice cream with coconut milk, but used the SAME measuring cup that was used for regular cream. She is now in pain and sick. The taste was ok. In my opinion the ice cream is over priced for what you receive.
My experience here was horrible, the people who took are order were more interested in talking to each other then acualyy taking time an doing are order, they got are order all wrong. They made the icecreams like they were in a rush ...we came to visit some relatives, definitely not coming back ..
We love the ice cream and its chunk in essence, but there is not enough help. The service was great but there was no way they could keep up with only two people. Every time we have come we have to wait too long.
We had so much fun! Thanks for great icecream and showing us the nitrogen. :-)
That was some truly awesome ice cream, id recommend this for anyone with a sweet tooth.
Pretty cool experience. The ladies that were working were fun and informative. Ice cream was great.
It was fun to watch them make your ice cream, and whats better, is eating it.
Really fun to watch then make ice cream. The ice cream is good. Its just pricey. I would reccomend it but I wouldnt go often. The workers are really nice
This was a great little place. They make the ice cream in front of you and its really good. Kids loved it and its a good value!
We had a great time there tonight. Great service and the manager was very friendly. We will go again.
Amazing concept. Delicious ice cream
I love the dairy free options! Im lactose intolerant so its hard to find treat stops i can enjoy that have more than one option that doesntmake me sick.
Super good but pricy, its cool how they make the ice cream
Yummy ice cream. Very entertaining to watch them make it. Staff is very friendly.
Fantastic ice cream and watching them make it is really fun. It does take a little longer since they make the ice cream in front of you rather than scoop it from a tub, but I consider the wait worth it.
I wish there were other non-dairy options. Coconut milk makes them grainy and thin. Cashew milk or almond milk would be great to have.
They make and freeze the ice cream almost instantly right in front of you. It tasted great! The employees were not great, but the ice cream was. Its in a fun location too.
They are fast and good customer service. I ordered cheese cake Ice cream on with nuts.it was so good
All time favorite place for ice cream! the workers are always friendly, and super helpful!
The girl was very helpful and friendly. It was good.😎
Good place just the no sugar tasted odd but do you rather diabetes?
The workers were really nice. The ice cream is a base that is frozen with liquid nitrogen. Its an interesting taste of flavors that you can make
Its so awesome watching them make the ice cream with liquid nitrogen, and its good ice cream, too! Lots of options for different dietary needs.
I love this place.... (granted, I havent been there in a few months because I now live in SLC), but it one of the few ones left that are still open. My favorite is Premium Amaretto with Brownies... the brownies arent the greatest in the world, but the ice cream is still delicious. I wish I could have SubZero at my house ALL THE TIME.
Prices are high but service and food is great!
A bit pricey, but its great quality. There are so many options and they way the make the ice cream is amazing to watch.
Portion sizes have decreased and prices have gone up. We usually get custard base, but they were all out. The two employees were trying to be friendly, but looked stressed. Overall, I didnt feel like the money I paid matched the experience I had. Plus, I can buy a gallon of ice cream at the store for the price I paid for a large cup here.
The ice cream was great as usual. Service was not. The people working were not friendly or helpful. If I had not had better experiences previously I would not be visiting this location again.
My kids love this place and honestly if you have never been it is worth going just once to see how they do it . Neat !!
Amazing experience they take liquid nitrogen and freeze whatever unfrozen ingredients you choose into ice cream right on the spot! Its so fresh and creamy you cant get it any better than this!
Very great place. Great employees! Ask for the special!
Great fun. Delicious ice cream and a show for the kids. Kind staff
Very customizable and great! 9/10
Calling it ice cream is pretty generous.
Its so much fun to see them make it. Tastes ever better.
Visiting from out of town.Staff was helpful & friendly.Great treat on a hot day
Do not trust their work hours on Google.
They have the best customer service! Love this place so much!
Didnt especially care for it. It was cool watching your ice cream being made though.
The employees were friendly and the ice cream was delicious!!
They have coconut milk as an alternative to cream! They are allergy sensitive.
Unique types of ice cream and frozen yogurt. Liquids and mix in are added and then frozen with liquid nitrogen.
This is a fun need experience to do once or twice but for a large family its not cost effective.
Love the food! Service depends on whos working. Sometimes you get people who are really indifferent to your kids when they ask questions and get excited about the nitrogen.
Picked a flavor with banana, they use banana flavoring that is super gross, instead of real bananas.
Ice cream is awesome, they have theChive inspired menu creations (awesome). Unfortunately, I cant bring myself to give it higher than three stars because every time I come in here, the guy working has such a bad, go-F-yourself attitude to everyone that I feel like I need to apologize for interrupting his day.
Fun! But over priced and the staff was quite annoyed with us.
Great Ice Cream. Staff was a little impersonal no hello or anything. But cant blame the shop for someones peoples skills.
Awesomely novel idea, but underwhelmingly mediocre product thats WAY overpriced. And pro tip: DO NOT GET BROWNIES IN YOUR FROZEN TREAT!! (Read below.)I visited a week or two ago after hearing nothing but rave reviews about this place. I ordered marshmallow and salted caramel for my ice cream base. What I got ended up tasting like plain vanilla with a vaguely corn syrupy hint of artificial marshmallow here and there. The texture of the ice cream was super hard and needed to melt before I could actually dig my spoon into it, but after a few minutes it was quite nice and creamy. This was the only plus about the place, and the reason it gets two stars instead of one. However, I deeply regret choosing to get the brownies mixed into it. To call these small, hard, chalky cubes brownies is an insult to even the EZ Bake brownies that three year olds make in preschool. They were like some horrible hybrid of frozen Tootsie Rolls and a protein bar and were so unpleasant that I had to pick them out in order for my ice cream to actually taste like a dessert.Thank God I got cookie dough pieces as well--although, with the chunks of fake chocolate chewing gum gone, the end result was a small, $6 cup of what was virtually indistinguishable from a bowl of Kroger Cookie Dough ice cream. Might be a fun place to try once for the novelty, but dont expect to be blown away by the quality.
If you want icey that taste like i cream go here good for flavor but if you want icecream go to the one in layton
Sooo good and so fun!
