Fun place to visit to learn about the history of locomotives π in Ogden. There is a train exhibit outside that is supper cool- lately the museum has provided entrance to 2 train cars (the military hospital transit and USPS mail carrier). Itβs neat to see how life was no too long ago. Great place for kids to explore, and awesome for family photos, particularly during sunset.
Very cool museum. There is a section of classic cars, another about trains and the Great Salt lake, and asking a good exhibit about Browning and his firearms. A neat gun museum all included it the cost. The big steam engines are cool to see, but I wish they had more info about them and how they work.
Our son loves trains and were so happy we went! We all had a great time and enjoyed everything. Staff was super friendly as well! Special thanks to the hobo with the peacock tie :)(We went a day before Halloween.) We will visit again!
A really cool museum. I went there multiple times as a kid and each time I absolutely loved it. There are a lot of cool exhibits, including a few interactive ones for kids (At least since the last time I was there, its been a few years so I dont know how much has changed). I would definitely go again if I ever get the chance.
Really really cool! Lots of cool trains to see outside and four awesome museums inside. The classic cars are truly awesome and are super beautiful! Wish I could drive one. My favorite part though was the firearms museum, what beautiful models on display. The volunteer Joe made it even better as he was highly entertaining and knowledgeable. He showed us around and made us laugh while doing so. I highly recommend stopping by this place. It is way cool and for only 7 bucks per adult is a great way to spend an afternoon!
Our family always loves visiting here when we go to Ogden. The museums are well worth the money. I wish theyd keep the grounds up a little better, other than that a great place to visit and learn.
Well from being one of the most haunted places in Ogden and in Utah for that matter it is also a awesome place to catch up on some Ogden history plus it has a restraunt in it too but I love the ghost and the history more
Truly unique enjoyable experience. Multiple museums. The trains, Browning, cars and Cowboy ones were my favorites. Nice Asian food restaurant on site to eat at made for a a memorable day. Definitely a should do item!!
The whole museum smelled like a geriatric facility and was not particularly well-maintained. Many employees were nice, especially in the train museum and main area. All employees seemed to be over 60. But the John Browning Gallery was incredibly disappointing. The gun displays themselves were nice, but the employees (or maybe volunteers) in this gallery were not. Inserted themselves into our viewing experience uninvited and then proceeded to misunderstand our questions and mock us loudly, afterwards regaling us with their own political stories and ideologies. The guy that was helping us was probably 70 years old and incredibly condescending and rude. He sure thought he knew everything there was to know about firearms. The trains were cool, but that was about it. Didnt appreciate the unsolicited explanations and mockery.
Union Station is awesome! One single museum admission ticket grants access to the railroad museum, a vintage car collection (which is stunning) and to the Browning Firearms museum. Every exhibit showcases things local to Ogden a d unique to the region.Outside, the beautiful station makes for an excellent backdrop to photos or if your just looking for cool old architecture too. The large train exhibit is definitely worth a visit too.The train show in early March is such a fun event and fills the entire station on both floors and has something for anyone regardless of age!
We loved our visit i believe his name was Vernon. He has been volunteering for 14 yrs and gave us history and told us some amazing stories such a sweet man. He definitely made it worth our stop.
This place was very nice and informative with really informative people telling you about the various events and eras. The one down side is the place can smell really bad and the outdoor train exhibit is extremely hot due to the outdoor nature. Overall it was a very interesting place with interesting people I would recommend a visit.
First time checking out the arts festival - I wouldnt say its an actual festival but it is an awesome collection of uniquely talented people! Such diversity in what you can find.. sculpture gourds thats look like trees, incredible photographers with one in a million shots, handmade leather jewelry, amazing paintings and pottery, silver&turquoise pieces and I opted for some polymer clay earrings made by a local sheet metal worker! Grabbed a couple media prints for our tv room and free tickets to the orchestra next month. Only thing that was disappointing- prices of food & drinks. With 25th street full of great restaurants, $10 for just 3 tacos, no side no drink or $21 for a burger (is it accurate to say its gourmet when youre selling it on a truck??!) and 12oz beers for $6 each... seems like price gouging the people willing to pay to see the festival.
Behind Union Station near Buenaventura: a beautiful place to walk.
I go here almost every Wednesday for country swing dancing. It is a blast! The people there are the coolest!
I always have a good time going to places like this. For Ogden Union Station its fun to see these massive locomotives and to imagine them in their prime.
First of all the trains, old automobiles, toy trains and art are GREAT but the piece de resistance is the whole top floor is the Browning pistol and rifle museum----they have the 1911 prototype 45 caliber-----this was Awesome
Great history, nice museums, a must stop to visit
This is a fun old museum to go to. The train station is old and it has several large engines outside to look at. Tucked into one of the small corners of this restaurant is an old local favorite oriental restaurant. I highly recommend Maple Gardens at Union Station!! What I also enjoy about this museum is they occasionally will have shows going on. They will have the train show, which is a local train enthusiasts club that sets up trains. In the past they have also had gem and mineral shows at the facility. Great venue to visit. Centrally located in downtown Ogden at the end of historic 25th street. This is a definite must visit!!
I truly loved this place, planning on visiting it again. Great history and museums, hosts are friendly, courtegous and nice to talk people.
Loved the museums at Union Station. The classic car museum was our favorite. It was great seeing the history of trains, guns, the west, and of the automobile. Several of the displays in the train portion werent working (unresponsive buttons) however we still had a lot of fun. Even our little eight month old enjoyed looking at everything and seeing the little train zip around.
This was nice to go to and see. However, 2 of the museums were closed. There is nothing a clear layout of what and where to see things and we missed the big trains .
A very reasonable entrance fee. Grandkids 5 and 8 years old were interested enough for a leisurely stroll through the 5 museums on site. They will always remember the miniature trains and huge setup of realistic mountain scenes and town dioramas depicted - also the big trains. Had to drag them away to keep on schedule. Wonderful volunteers and a nice historic building. Thank you!
Not sure what I was expecting but was disappointed. There is a car and train museum that I did not visit. Maybe I was thinking there would be shops and more going on.
Cool bit of gun history is what I stopped in for also had some old cars to check out and train stuff price was not to bad also
It was a cute place. Some of the activity room were closed due to Covid. They had an out door section that you got to see 5 or 6 different trains and walk along the paths next to them. You get to see models trains and the railroads inside. There are classic cars in another part. An old west section and a gun museum. It definitely is worth a visit. My kids enjoyed it and want to go again.
Really fun place to go with the family. There are lots of trains outside of the historic train station that can be explored. Museum is reasonably priced and contains lots of great artifacts from the heyday of rail travel. Several dioramas with model trains make it fun for kids and adults alike. Also contains a great vintage car display and historical gun collection that shouldnt be missed.
The Trains outside are spectacular, The train museum is wonderful and informative. The trains and maps are so col, and the miniature towns the trains go by, train stations. Having miniature big Boy on display with History made my all my stories come alive my Grandpa told everyone about jumping huge steam trains come alive. I love the rifle museum. Guns are my childrenβs being related to Winchester, and my husband aunt marred Val Browning. My granddaughters name is Phoebe Ann and that is Annie Oakleys Birth name. My Dad and Daughter were in Army so they had handled some stillest piece . I also believe in the right to Bear Arms! What a Beautiful awesome display to be so proud of.
Really cool place. There was way more to see than we expected. Our kids loved the many toy trains whizzing around.
Country Swing Dancing for life such a blast come have fun and dance your night away
Multiple museums, very interesting. Great history
We attended a wedding reception and they have music going we got to dance a little bit and visited with some friends and really enjoyed ourselves then went out to eat
This is a cool old train station. Outside are some old trains and old cars you can walk around. The Train museum inside is a bit small and doesnt take long to go through. Maybe 20 minutes if you dont read any notes. The Browning Firearms museum upstairs is also small but interesting if you are interested in firearms history. The car museum only has maybe 15 cars but they are in good condition. Good for half a day looking around maybe.
First the place is a warm place to be on the winter. In the main lobby dont forget to look up and appreciate the awesome beams. The trains are great to walk near and the placards are informative. There is History channel video that plays...it kept my attention and was informative about the cross continental railroad.Dont forget to look at the antique car section.
I go dancing here every Wednesday night at 8:30, its been my biggest joy helping them set it up and learning to dance here for the last 10 years!
Very neat place to visit to see history of Itah and trains. My toddlers througly enjoyed it. I believe its about 3$ a person to go throughout the museums.
Ive been coming to Union Station since I was in elementary school. I volunteered here in 2013 and 2014. Ive seen it go through management changes and many display changes. Heres how I feel about each museum:Car museum: The collection is large and easy to navigate. Among the better vehicles is the 1901 Oldsmobile, which if I recall correctly still has an active registration and can therefore legally drive on Utahs roadways. Most of the cars are still operable, though no one is allowed to drive them for obvious reasons. 5/5 starsFirearms museum: Some displays have been changed and others removed altogether, but overall the collection is great. John Browning was a prolific inventor and the collection includes some rare prototypes that you just cant see anywhere else. The volunteers here are engaging and knowledgeable. 4/5 stars.Railroad museum: This is where I used to volunteer. Many of the displays that were there a few years ago are now gone. Blank spaces occupy many walls and floor space where artifacts and pictures used to be. The space is no longer being utilized to its fullest potential. That said, the museum still has many artifacts of interest. It tells the story of the transcontinental railroad well and the model railroad is still as cool as it has always been. Plus theres that large collection of train engines outside, though the mail car and hospital car are closed currently because of covid. 3/5 starsOverall, the museums at Union Station are wonderful and worth the admission price. The space in the railroad museum could be better used; with over 25,000 artifacts in their collection, there have to be some ways to use the empty spaces. But thats my only complaint and it mostly comes from a place of missing what used to be there. Definitely take your kids here; they (and you) will love it.
The depot is a historical site. The city at one time was going to demolish it. If theyre allowed it would be another apartment complex.
Great museums and very friendly staff. The railroad museum was fantastic and Robert, the conductor/docent gave us a personal tour as he unlocked the mail car and hospital cars outside. The John Moses Browning museum was tremendous and I highly recommend it! We may be speaking German here in the USA if not for his brilliant in inventions that changed the world. The car museum was great too! Awesome old cars in there that you dont see at all any more. They have a family pass for 4, it only cost $20 total for all the museums!
We had a wonderful time with my family. We took the tour of the railroad station, the auto museum, and the Browning gun Museum all of this for $5 a person! They also had a lot of old cowboy/cowgirl memorabilia too. What suprised me the most was how much the Mormon church and Blacks we involved in the railroad. Very informative for my family and me. We were there for a little over 3 hours and had a blast. The railroad cars outside were pretty amazing and made great photos. Everyone there was very helpful, knowledgeable, and answered all of our questions. So glad we went and would go again the next time we visit Utah.Forgive my photos, Im no photographer π
If you love trains, you will love this museum... onside and outside. the exhibits are a step back in time, and the volunteers and workers are very helpful. The antique cars are an added perk. Union Station, also known asΒ Ogden Union Station, is a train station inΒ Ogden,Β Utah, at the west end ofΒ Historic 25th Street, just south of theΒ Ogden Intermodal Transit Center. Formerly the junction of theΒ Union PacificΒ andΒ Central Pacific Railroads, its name reflects the common appellation ofΒ train stationsΒ whose tracks and facilities are shared by railway companies
Nice architecture and well-kept grounds. Lots of fascinating engines and railroad history.P.S. Bunch of good restaurants just east on 25th...
We stumbled upon this museum at the Golden Spike 150th anniversary and we were amazed at all the hidden exhibits here! Despite the small area of the museum, it was really cool to see so many features such as the original golden spike, UP history, priceless one-of-a-kind Cadillacs from the 1930-40s and a massive Browning firearms museum upstairs. Also outside there are many incredible locomotives that are well-maintained and proudly displayed!
Enjoyed all of the attractions! Browning car museum housed a V16 car. Now thats a little power! Got a chance to see the 2002 torch relay train car and then it was on to the Train Museum itself where miniature trains ran through stations, tunnels and over tresses built with sheer strength of mans power!
I recently was Al Greens Union Station for the Golden Spike 150th anniversary Heritage Festival and it was awesome as usual.Their museums are worth checking out as well as the art & architecture.
A good afternoon trip. There are 4 museums, a cowboy thats a room with some fun memorabilia, a classic car with about 15 cars, a gun exhibit featuring The guns from Browning, including a short biopic, and, of course, the train museum. Worth the trip, kids will really enjoy it.
Excellent museum! So fun. They should totally start carrying The Chocolate Seed Company products in their gift shop area. Their guests would love the yummy snack items!
What is disappointing is that this is supposed to be a railroad museum. The railroad artifacts they do have are not being maintained, and are really showing so degradation. Equally disappointing is that the artifacts are not displayed in an historically accurate manner. Both of these two issues are exactly what museums are supposed to do, preserve and display artifacts in an historically accurate manner to educate the public.Their gun and automobile (how that relates to railroad history is a bit of a mystery, but shows the state of financial well being for the museum, as well as mission creep) are impressive. One can only assume there is more public interest and grant funding for guns and cars than for trains.Railroad artifacts are being displayed on the ground, not even on rail, parts falling off, vandals have access to the artifacts, there are lack of interpretive information on much of the artifacts, displays not working. What is good about the museum is the price. For $5 USD you can see what poorly maintained history looks like! But it is Utah. People here dont seem to care about history or education. Unless it is tied to the dominant religion in the area and heavily embellished.
Always a great experience. If you love trains donβt miss it. Classic car museum has some rare finds also.
Wonderful celebration of the 150th anniversary of the golden spike and the transcontinental railroad.Event was well organized and very well attended.Witnessing first hand, up close and personal the two stream giants, 4014 Big Boy and 844 Living Legend was a singular, once in a lifetime experience. The Ogden street fair was a great collateral event.Congratulations to the organizers and all those involved.
Cool place... interesting collection of railyard memorabilia
We went to the Browning gun museum. It was awesome. $5 covers the adult tix for all museums.
We went to the museum because we could get in free with our Dinosaur Park pass. Im glad we didnt have to pay for the entrance. It wasnt a huge impression. Some of it was fun for the kids, but I cant imagine returning to visit again. It was just a one-time thing. And the staff didnt seem too pleased to be there. I think they are retired volunteers that like a quite place to read a book since the place doesnt seem too busy.
Fun museum. The heating works really good, got way too hot in the train gallery. The trains and the history were interesting. The car museum was super cool.
My six year old absolutely loved looking at all the trains! We were there for at least two hours and he is already making plans to go again.
The Museum has four well set up categories Cars, Guns, The Old West, and Trains. The Browning pistol and riffle guns. The Old West displays cowboys their tools, equipment, fashion, & Trains had the Golden Spike where the East connected to the West creating the first Transcontinental Railway. There is a Art Gallery that features some of the local talent and you could purchase.
Was an event of LUPEC and it was a great experience π
Fun historical place. Enjoyed the visit.
My grandson loves to go see there.
I loved the whole museum but especially the car area. You need a few hours for all of it and I did not have that time :( I plan on going back and spending some hours here. Wonderful place!
Pretty cool.place
Great walkabout for train buffs. Worth a visit.
The #transcon150 was amazing. This is a must visit historical site with multiple museums and a beautiful down town
They hold swing dance things every Wednesday, its amazing and worth it!
The museums were very fun and informative. The frontrunner station is really close and it makes for a fun day trip.
I like all the museums here. Fun to learn about multiple different subjects all in the same place.
Visited during an event. Very well maintained, friendly staff and beautiful trains!
Set up with each exhibit linking to one another, all without over looking the beautiful historical pieces. Not to mention that all the staff is so amazingly cheerful and well knowledgable. The grill has moved but the gift shop is still worth browsing on every visit
Pretty neat place. Was closed when I went but we still enjoyed checking out the trains outside.
Had a wonderful visit at Union Station! Great place to bring the family.
We only ever go when UP shows up with their live steam trains. Definitely a great place to showcase some railroad history with real working locomotives.
A wealth of history is located here. The docents are equally knowledgeable.
So fun to see the big boy. Well be back to see what is normally there.
Wish I could see the trains they have parked but they are closed every time I come.
Fun place to take the family. The museum prices are very reasonable, the staff very helpful. We got there too late to have time for any of the museums, as they close early at 5 pm. They do have two free art galleries which we enjoyed one of them. We will be going back to tour the museums.
Wide variety of interesting topics: trains, art galleries, Browning firearms, Antique cars, cowboy museum.
Wow! I had no idea how important this Station was in WW2! It is open even with COVID, but no tours.
Food trucks and music on the Friday evening we were there. Very interesting old trains to look at. Really enjoyed it!
