I went to Pettit Marine on Friday 7/24 with a rusted bolt stuck to a small aluminum plate. Walt informed me that they had a big project and could not do it, because the tool guy was away. I understood, but was disappointed that I would not get my boat on the water without it. I then returned on Monday about 10am and left the plate with Walt, explaining I would return for it after lunch. I was told they were busy but could get it done. At 1pm, I returned and it was not done. It bothered me, because I knew the rusted bolt could be removed in seconds with a tool that I did not have with me, but that they would have in their shop. I left again, returning again at 4:30pm to find no one in the store at all, for about 15 minutes. When the tool person returned he told me that they were too busy. I was told I was insulting and should not complain, because they were going to do it for free. I did not ask for anything free. What I asked for was that either the work be done or my plate with the rusted bolt be returned, so that I could be on my way. I asked for my plate back, but then suddenly they were able to get the tool guy on it. After about 15 minutes he was unable to remove the bolt, at which point my plate was returned. I then went to Zeiglers down the street. They had it out in about 10 seconds, and I was on my way. I really wish I had gone to Zeiglers in the first place. They were busy too, but they took care of me. Had I gone there first, I would have spent the past weekend sailing:(
Walt, Charlie, Nick, Dan, Shane and the rest of the crew I have met are the best. I was in in a situation where I had to put my blind faith in them. I was not disappointed and in fact give them a highly regarded recommendation! I ended up with a group of trusted friends who I would trust with the care of my boat - and me!
I will start by saying the two workers doing the sanding did there best to help me out.I asked Walt for a haul date to have them sand and paint bottom.I told Walt when my boat needed to be relaunched because of commitments in Portland. They knew and agreed to the time line.Boat sat for 2 1/2 days with none to very little work.In the end cost me 4 extra days in the yard( 17 days total) and $477 in lost wages to take launch day off. When I went back to launch the boat, red base coat was Showing through the thin black top layer.Makes me wonder what kind of job they did on the barrier coat?I have never given a negative review before.3 days into this I was sorry I did not look into other options for bottom paint.
Very Good people!!
Very knowledgeable and he gave me another boat Marine phone number
I asked that they paint the bottom of my boat. They did a terrible job. The bottom paint wasn’t applied correctly. It was bubbled and they did not apply 2 coats as requested. The owner Walt was rude and would not address the problem. I would stay away from this business. They do not stand behind their work.
