I went on the gentlemen today, awesome day. John and cap Jeff are awesome but Ryan and Sam made it fun and Ryan was always on point and there to help out. These guys are awesome.
Ive fished with the Sea Jay twice now and love the crew! Chauncey is a great captain. Both times he put us on the fish. He knows how to read the ocean and isnt scared to move around. He will move from bottom fishing to top fishing and back as the conditions change.One of my favorite parts is that he is willing to teach you. I grew up fishing in lakes and streams and not on the ocean. He really helped me learn and freelining for bigger fish. He will show you, teach you, and is there to answer questions. He is hands on and a huge help!The boat is a great boat too! We showed up at 3am and were on the boat by 4am. There are bunks below that you can sleep in while you motor out to the fishing grounds.Cant share enough how great these guys are!
The Speed Twin AMAZING!! I have been out on the Speed Twin twice and both times have been amazing. The deck hands are amazing and so helpful. They put you on the fish. They also have an outstanding cook. Well worth the money!! Also great family fun!
Love this place. Always have a great time and always catch some nice fish. Staff at the landing are excellent. Best boat in my opinion is the Speed Twin. Awesome crew and great captain. Dont forget to tip the deckhands! These guys work hard!
Went on the Sea Jay after 22 years had a excellent experience .Good for newcomers . Crew and Captain excellent. Willgo again enjoyable trip.
I visited their facilities for the whale watching tour from 9-noon. They asked you to be there at 8am for check-in and some old codger complained that it was too early. What are we supposed to do? He asked in an exasperated voice. He seemed impatient. The tour was well put together and the guide was humorous, but also seemingly knowledgeable. We saw plenty of dolphins, seal lions, and of course a whale or two breach the surface. Id recommend the Groupon deal for $30. Im not sure the regular price. Parking is a cinch and felt secure.
Had an amazing full day trip on the aloha spirit. Excellent crew. When the fishing was slow, the crew made up for it by doing their own bit of fishing and passing the lines on to customers so all can share in the experience. I highly recommend this boat, captain and crew. Captain was on top of finding the best spots. Now lets talk about the galley. The young man coming breakfast and lunch was top notch. He put a great deal of time and attention to the food he was cooking. The food was excellent and so was the service. Highly, highly, highly recommend!!!! Thank you aloha spirit. You made an east coast fishermans day....

Absolutely amazing!! Every single person on the boat caught a fish!! There were two deckhands that were very helpful and the cook had an awesome personality with excellent cooking skills. Like everything else in California all was overpriced for the amount gotten, but the experience was well worth it!!
Well I am from Texas, and the canceled the fishing trip 9hours before. Only chance I had to go fishing. They wanted to put me on a different boat that’s out for 1/2 a day for the same price as a 3/4 day. Very disappointed. As it’s on them for canceling, should have got a reduction on a less fishing time ride. But if I cancelled I wouldn’t get a refund.

Ive been out [fishing with this group many times. They offer different lengths of trips, from Half Day to overnight and beyond. The captains are knowledgeable, the deckhands are helpful, and the prices are reasonable for this type of recreation, which I do often. Bring cash as youll need to pay for fish cleaning etc in cash. Also, its okay to bring your own food and non alcoholic drinks. Smoking is ok on the boats.

Channel Islands location gives fishermen choices of bottom fishing, chasing yellow tails or whatevers happening. I experienced nice crews professional captains well maintained boats. Priced right. The islands and wildlife are a added bonus bring your camera.
We went out for the AM Whale Watching tour, but the weather was no ideal and we had to turn back after an hour (and only saw a sea lion). However, my boys (2.5, 7, and 8) and myself still had a great time. They cooked hot food on board and had tons of drinks and snacks for purchase. The crew was very friendly. They gave us rain checks to come back on a nicer day, so we didnt lose out on anything. Im looking forward to that trip.
They took us out at 5:20 for a 5 oclock departure. We were brought in at 8:30 at idle. We were supposed to be in at 10:30. The fact that we made it back by 10 plus my friends, didnt max out is one thing. They never even moved to a second spot. They took advantage of the time we paid for and overcharged our tabs while we we were ob the boar

Great landing has the most variety of boats to fish from. Recommend boats are the Aloha-Sean is one of the fishiest captains on the west coast look at his numbers compared to everyone else no day boat does it better from San Diego to the Gold Coast. The Sea Jay-Donny is a young hungry captain that is constantly trying to out fish his Dad and Brother the Fuqua family as well as everyone else. This lets you know he is gonna give it 110% day in day out. the Mirage has the history to back up their claim as fishy Joe has trained quite a bit of captains and Ryan is breaking in nicely (The boat needs an overhaul on the bunks, sleeping sucks) she is a fishy one for sure though..... Thanks guys for all the great trips guys

Very cool fleet fishing can be amazing especially when seabass and yellowtail cooperate otherwise its not really worth going for rockfish bottom fishing
The staff is super friendly and helpful. Be sure to book online ahead of time because you cannot book there in person. We did a 3 hour whale watching trip. They are knowledgeable in where to look for whales and dolphins. We saw two separate pods of dolphins with 100s of dolphins which was fantastic. As for whales we saw 2 but they were not as social as the dolphins. I highly recommend this trip for the family.
I had the best experience on this vessel. The crew is amazing! The Capt put us on the fish. The deckhands are very knowledgeable and will to give you tips. I was in on a charter with a group of friends. The galley food was to die for. The burgers and breakfast burritos are Must. I cant wait to go on the vessel again.

Ive gone with the fine people who operate The Gentlemen for a few years now (just a trip or two) and Ive never been disappointed. In fact every time I go I catch close to my limit. If its your first time deep sea fishing, Id recommend going with these guys as theyll teach you what you need to know so you to can catch some good fish!

Excellent description of whales by the guide. Saw a fin whale and one very large blue whale, but no grey whales, which typically migrate through the Channel Islands twice each year.The waves were rough and the boat was pitching a lot, although never in any danger. They would not take the boat out if the seas were too rough. Several people were queasy and some kids were seasick. Best to take a pill before getting on the boat if youre prone to seasickness.The boat we were on (Ranger 85) had a galley and offered breakfast.

Went fishing on the Gentleman 3/4 trip, My review goes out to the staff.. The hands on deck was not in the mood to help, a particular person named Adam would turn away from people needing help. I’ve been on different boats and this one takes the cake on rudeness.. It really makes a difference when people are willing to help, makes fishing even more enjoyable.
Captain and staff should ALWAYS check for weather conditions before departure, waste of time going there, captain has bad attitude, not coming back here
The bait shop was the only place open guys were very helpful on gettin us on some fish
BUT never! Had to pay for renting gear,special lisence, pole, pay for literally everything. Played way too much.
Been to almost all fishing landings in So-Cal and this one is a 5 star operation. Prices are way less than most too. Buy a ticket for $65, rent a rod for $15, buy a couple weights and a bag of hooks (tackle depends on the day), and a fishing licenses if needed. I have an annual license :) Food is good on these boats, deckhands work hard (tip them!) and fish cutting is cheap and well worth not dealing with the aftermath LOL. Great value considering its ALL DAY, i mean, WAY less than a day at Disneyland. Big variety of boats with each giving personalized service. I do the extended half (8am-4pm) day when I dont want to wake up early but I am a big fan of overnight trips. Even if the White Seabass or Yellows dont bite, the quality of the Rockfish and Lingcod here is amazing. Frankly, jackpot fish from down south are throw backs here.
My wife and I often fish out of CIF. Our favorite boat is the Aloha Spirit and Captain Sean. The crew on the Aloha Spirit is always helpful.

Fish on the Mirage ... took us on a short boat right to Santa Rosa, tried for white sea bass in yellowtail no good . did catch a halibut.... got limits of rockfish mostly all nice size Reds ... then when in shallower and caught some very nice white fish.... overall trip I would say it was a big success captain crew cook all excellent will be back
Called last minute the day before the trip because our original charter got cancelled. Really nice on the phone and got us on a full day of fishing the next day. I am from out of town and was already paying $160 for this trip which was a bit more expensive than other charters. I had to pay for a license, rod rental, and tackle. I told them I needed tackle and they put the package together for me.On the boat, the captain mentioned having your mask on but never enforced it. The only other time it was mentioned was right before we got back in to dock. 70% of people were not wearing a mask, even while inside sitting down in an enclosed area.Food was way overpriced on the boat. Almost nothing on this trip was included except for bait. $2 for chips, coffee, a candy bar. The food they made looked good but was annoyed that I had to be at the dock at 4am and get home at 4:30pm and had to pay $10+ for something to eat while having already paid $225+ for the trip that I was sharing with 24 other people.Lastly, the boat hardly caught any fish. Which is fine, I get it. But there were times we sat in one spot for an hour plus with just a few sport fish being caught. There were complaints from people around to move to a new spot. At the end of the trip, we moved to a spot to “fill the bags” but we literally got 15 minutes in that spot. Was told that it was a weird day and the fish weren’t biting but it felt like a huge waste of my time and money.

Jumped in the boat (gentleman) for the first time in 15 16 years and had the best experience as the first time I went as a kid..!!! They said I’ll catch more or less then at least 5 and I expected two tree and caught 9 and my brother caught 6 ... all eaters ..!! Big thanks to Channel Islands sport fishing and the CREW...!! Will be back soon..!!!
Captains that know the area, deckhands that keep the fishing going and ice-cold beer in the galley once youve limited out. Also, some damn good eatin is still happening from the last trip.
Trip on the Gentleman’s Twilight fishing which was a 5 hour trip depart at 5pm-10pm $62.40. We left 38 min late. We fished the exact same location next to the oil rig for 3.5 hours. And we did not fish on all sides of the oil rig we only fished on the north side for the entire time. Who ever wanted to get a shot at dropping a line under the oil rig, which is the only place the fish were biting, one had to be crammed in the back of the boat shoulder to shoulder while overhead casting or under casting. Unfortunately the crew was not enforcing the rules of covid eg. Social distancing or wearing face masks. For those who caught chili peppers the majority were tossed back due to them being under the legal size limits. We were not informed online to bring spinning reels with 1-2 oz weights. Had I know we would be fly fishing under an oil rig or I would have stayed home. Less than half of the boat caught a fish. Note when you pay for a potato sack it’s $2 dollars non refundable even if you don’t catch anything they will keep the sack (note not online). If you do buy food keep in mind its $9 for a cheeseburger, $4 for canned beer (tecate). Overall, it was not a great or safe environment. I would strongly suggest to sticking to day time fishing.
Taking the GENTLEMAN for Deep Sea Fishing was the best experience for me and my family because of Sam, Sara (captains wife) and Jeff. They taught me how to fish, learn the sea and come back with Long Fish Stories. Dont miss their adventure.
Fantastic organization, excellent crew, friendly and knowledgeable! We were lucky and saw 8 humpback whales and hundreds of dolphins and a few seals. Its great also for kids over 5. Beautiful experience!

Had a good time even though people doesnt listen and the swells were 4-6 feet and the wind was blowing pretty good and kept the boat moving off the fish. Adam is a great deckhand and the cook and Captain were great to talk to. Wish we wouldve caught our limit but that is why its called fishing and not catching. Thank you for a good time.
This was a while ago now, but I just put it off and forgot. Unfortunately have to voice my displeasure. I chartered the cobra for a bunch of friends and family. That whole crew just left a bad taste in my mouth and I will never charter them again. They cared way more about fishing themselves than helping us catch fish. The little red head dude came and forced his way right in the middle of me and my friend and caught a big ol halibut and then the audacity to not even offer anyone a steak. Just horrible customer service. I think you get what you pay for.
Ive been here a handful of time and my father in law comes once a week. Based on the fact he has his own fishing boat and still heads out with these guys, Id say thats something. The crew handle everything, you catch a fish, they unhook it and get you rolling again. You tangle a line, they help, and at the end its a dollar a fish or something like that to have them clean all your catches. Which, is the best deal youll find. The food on the boat is great and the beer is a few bucks. Its an amazing trip if you got the time. But its a whole day, so expect to be out there from 6am until 6pm. Plan ahead. Dramaine, sunscreen, whatever else.
Great place for those who would like to get out and explore the waters. Fun people to talk with and beautiful boats all around. Its a must.
