Terrific store with high-end groceries, kitchen novelties, very clean and spacious restrooms (not gender-specific). Funny selection of cocktail napkins. Array of salad and sandwich choices including a limited possibility for create-your-own. Beautiful desserts on display and what appeared to be a fabulous homemade ice cream case, though I cannot partake of that, so I concentrated my attention elsewhere. Drink case offered several varieties of bottled drinks, both carbonated and not, as well as water. We had a lovely salad and part of a baguette, drinks and a dessert for about $30. I had a delicious coconut/ chocolate confection, while my hubby enjoyed a blondie (that sounds like a whole other topic, but I mean the light version of a brownie!!). Indoor and outdoor seating are available.

Misleading atmosphere. Everything looked nice & smelled delicious; however, the food did not meet my expectations. The “Chicken Burrito” was just chicken chunks & sour cream mixed and wrapped in what felt like Pillsbury Dough. It was very texturally confusing. I also ordered the chai latte. It was ok, but I wish it had some more spices. That said, the staff was amicable & I could tell they were working hard due to the shortage in staff. All in all, not a bad place for a pit-stop & a wee snack plus, they had a lovely trinkets selection.

Twelve Pines is a yearly haunt of ours. Great, healthy, handmade food. Specialty items one cannot find anywhere else. The staff are pleasant and helpful. Stop in and take some time looking about and exploring the food. The only bad thing is on my part, I am off of sugar and carbs, so no gelato or cookies for me!

Love, love, LOVE Twelve Pine! I dont understand the very few unhappy people who left derogatory reviews. IMHO they seem more personal attacks against the owner and staff than constructive feedback. I used to work in Peterborough and still travel there to go to Twelve Pine even tho its a drive for me now. There were and are a small number of transplants who have an air of bourgeoisie entitlement about them. They dont like to wait, or be told they cant have/do something that they think theyre entitled to. The negative-nannies wont influence the old school patrons and all the better if their reviews keep others of their ilk from patronizing the cafe. For those complaining about not being able to sit at the dining room tables to be on their computers for long periods, there is a nice green space in back of Toadstool that has a gazebo and benches to sit and eat during nice weather. Just be sure to bring your own hotspot if you want to go on the internet.Twelve Pines owner has continually succeeded in improving everything about the cafe--from the menu and food quality, to the dining room environment, and overall dining/shopping experience. He keeps people employed in a small town where the economic environment can be difficult. Hes fastidious in his efforts to keep the place clean for the safety of his patrons, and the staff are always cordial, hardworking, and helpful. In a time when restaurants are struggling to stay alive, I really appreciate Twelve Pine. My experiences over the years have always been 5-star, A++!

Under new ownership...stay away. Ive catered several parties every summer with the excellent professional catering from 12 pinesThis year I placed my four of July order as usual, but when I went to pick it up, they had my written order but had not filled it. The new owner gave all sorts of excuses but my party was now diminished. Did not seem remorseful and proved to be UNRELIABLE.

Order 2 items to wait 45 minutes and everyone after you to get their food before getting mine. Only to have the joke of an owner tell me wont refund me? Wont be back here again.I talk to the manager who everyone in town knows is an unsavory character and he basically turns around my complaint to say its my fault for the sandwich I ordered because it takes longer. A Reuben take 5 minutes at home to make. Not 30.Then the employee I asked to get him is standing besides him giving her feedback and trying to make it seem like Im wrong by reinforcing what hes saying with things like it was 15 minutes after you ordered your salad. Actually it was 2. My transaction on my phone has a time stamp. Then she keeps running her mouth spouting nonsense. Manager continues to avoid a refund for the wait or any kind of compensation. I end up leaving with a new understanding of people who work in customer service, but dont actually know what theyre doing.. This is the place to get shunned by employees if you complain at all.

This was the first time I tried using the 12 Pines for a catering item. I ordered the small cheese, cracker, and fruit platter for an Open House we were having at Kitty Rescue and Adoption in Jaffrey. The cheeses were excellent, the fruit ripe, sweet, and juicy, and the way the platter was arranged was just lovely with beautiful fresh flowers and a creative pineapple vase. I was extremely happy with the purchase, everyone at the event enjoyed it tremendously, and I would definitely order from their catering menu again.

Pricey but my favorite Reuben sandwich ever, seriously. Something about the panini warmth and the melted cheese with the just right sauerkraut is amazing. My wife loves their salads. The burritos are very good warmed with salsa. The triple chocolate brownie is so rich it should require a permit to eat one. Be warned however that most of the time if youre ordering a sandwich you going to have to wait...and wait...and wait. The sandwich will be worth it but if youre with anyone else and they didnt get a sandwich they will likely be done. Im not sure why it takes them so long but perhaps they arent focused on efficiency. Still, despite the wait worth it, albeit somewhat frustrating.

I was just told by the owner to leave because it was busy. I am honestly stunned, as Ive never been kicked out of a coffee house/restaurant for being a patron. I am a local Peterborough resident and have been coming to Twelve Pine for two years, but my husband and I will never spend money here again, and we will make sure to not recommend this establishment. I was literally sitting at a single table for less than an hour with my laptop, a 20 oz cappuccino and two cookies (so clearly, I paid to be able to sit there), and the owner told me to leave since it was busy. Also, the cappuccino was poorly made (it tasted like nothing but milk) and theres no WiFi.

What do you get when you have a joint run by an out-of-state owner (New York) and marginally-palatable food? You get Twelve Pine. Now, on their web site, they will display all of the awards they have received, but note that none of them were earned from the current owner. The current owner has nothing to do with them. The only award he should receive is systematically tearing down everything that the previous owner built up. He is rude to customers. He chastises his employees in front of customers. When my wife bought one of their sub-par cappuccinos and two cookies, she went to the table to do some work on her laptop. The owner strolled over and told her to leave. I guess her weekly patronage to that place doesnt compare to a four-way table-top of schoolmarms eating their half-sandwich and cup of soup that they split. For a town known for its writers and artists, I guess one needs to apply for a fellowship at the MacDowell Art Colony in order to sit and write a book. Best avoid an establishment that serves coffee and offers seating, Peterborough isnt Paris after all, is it? That would be too cool. There is a reason for this. The O.G. town residents are dying off and the out-of-towners, like the Twelve Pines owner are moving in and selling out this quaint town to urban sprawl and provincials. The girls that work are all well-meaning but seem stressed out and overworked. Judging by the Glassdoor reviews, I see that even minors are pushed through a nine-hour day without a break, so I understand why they are what they are. Again, the onus of poor customer service lies with the owner and his manager.THE FOOD: Once I bought the chicken burrito. Imagine Gerber Pureed Chicken baby food with a few pieces of white meat poured inside a deep-fried burrito. These are then piled all day on a plate in a glass showcase with nice frilly kale to give it color. When you order this burrito to be served hot, it isnt refried. The counter-person plunks it on a plate and pushes a button on the microwave oven. When it is served (without a smile, for these workers have the zeal of an Orc slaving in the caves of Mordor), the fried shell is lamentably soggy. The inside is blistering hot like molten lava, not from heat convection, but a freakin microwave! When this piece of crap is stabbed, the whole gelatinous baby food mess oozes out all over the place as if it were Julius Caesar. You cant eat it until it cools, and once it cools, you are now eating wallpaper paste with that tough chewy chicken that gets that way from nuking the crap out of meat. Believe me when I say that you are better off buying a Whopper from Burger King, because at least the mystery meat sourced from razed Brazilian rain forest cows was put through a burger cooker.Thall of the charm and imagination of a Depression-era soup line.COFFEE: Nobody there is a trained barista. The coffee in the urns is often lukewarm. The Chai comes from syrups and therefore is always too sweet in that sickening way one hearkens to their childhood when they drank Zarex. None of it is any good. They are stretching themselves thin trying to cover all fronts to exploit tourist dollars.Dont forget to not take photos! Thats right. This joint is so exclusive, so special and so unique, that photography is prohibited! Now, is it because theres a Picasso hanging on the wall? Or, maybe its so posh with hordes of celebrity dining? Not sure. My suspicion is that the current owner is leery of Yelp reviews like mine with on-site photos for evidence.Twelve Pine only deserves to go out of business so a better place can move into that space. Thats all one can hope for.

Actually the food isnt all that bad, nor is the service or the overall presentation of the place. It does have a hollow corporate feeling which you dont often find in non-franchised restaurants. From what I hear this is related to the low pay rates offered there as well as the incredibly poor attitude of the owner. I have myself witnessed him literally yelling at an overwhelmed barista for not answering the phone by its third ring. There were probably 6 customers standing in line waiting for service and we had to witness this. If you lend any credence to the saying you are what you eat I suggest passing this place by because whereas the menu all looks appealing in the display case it is overpriced for what it actually IS, and there is no feeling to it (at least no good feeling)
