Google maps were a block off and I had to call twice for help finding the side residential studio. I bought a cheap violin on Facebook marketplace and was politely told the poor quality of my instrument. I was given the option of renting a student violin for a year or having Harold the luthier replace the pegs, bridge and strings. Since I already glued a pickup on the violin I brought to play at open mics I opted for the repairs. When I came back from vacation and picked it up a week later, It was like getting farerri wheels on a yugo. I had to relearn how to play. I definitely appreciate the craftsmanship.
Harold Golden has been my repair and rehair man for over 30 years.Very easy process every time, excellent work at reasonable price. When Harold fixes something, it STAYS FIXED!!!Highly recommend him!!!
I had a bit of trouble finding the entrance as the shop is at the garage of the home, but Harold called to help me find my way. Very pleasant interactions and quite affordable! As a new violin parent, I feel in good hands!
He does an amazing job and his pricing is reasonable.
Mr. Harry Golden is a master luthier. I brought him my grandfathers 18th century double bass in deplorable condition. It was in pieces and warped from neglect. For four years, Harry patiently fixed all the problems associated with previous repairs and damage from neglect.Nothing fit, and I had to keep putting it down to think about a solution for each of the challenges posed by this instrument. Then it would come to me, and I would work on it, recalled Golden when describing the repair.Im so glad that H.G. took on the project because he dedicates his whole self to each of his projects. What was supposed to be a repair ended as a full-blown restoration because of his attention to detail and pride in his work. Mr. Golden was gracious and did all the extra work, but didnt surprise me with extra charges. He just has a high standard of excellence that he lives by and is incapable of doing a job that is anything less than perfect. In all my years as a professional musician, Ive never heard an double bass sound so good. Thanks Harry! If you are looking for the best person to fix, restore, or build your string instrument, then look no further than Harry Golden at Golden Violins!
Harold is knowledgeable, quick and honest. I will definitely use him again!!
I am an adult beginner, BUT in addition to my own violin, which i took here to be repaired, i also run a private charity project (not tax exempt) refurbishing cheap yard sale and Craigslist finds for needy students. Most of the repairs i do are just new strings and very very simple stuff, but i started needed a real luthier for some... had some interesting bad adventures......then i got referred to Golden Violin.Harry is an angel.. telling me what repairs were the bare minimum for affordable playability... what was optional (if nice) and telling me where i could shave some costs....so i could donate these instruments ...my personal violin came back from him sounding 100 times better!i have since had to take a poor repair job from another luthier to him also...PS walking into his shop is enough to make s string lover start drooling...
