Always loved Rasputins. Been missing it since the San Lorenzo one closed. This one is ok. A bit confined and disorganized (for me). But still a great store with CDs, tapes, records, vhs, shirts and more.

If you are a person who streams everything, who long ago unloaded your cd and dvd collections, this review might not make any sense. Rasputin is a media chain specializing in those old cds and dvds. They sell new ones, too, along with vinyl, clothing, and all manner of music-related merch, but they have always been a small chain store, with less than 10 stores in the bay area over the years. The rampant popularity of streaming, coupled with the pricing tactics of larger chain stores and the internet have made independent record stores like this one an endangered species. Thus, in order to survive, the smaller store needs to act aggressively, and the most important tool in that fight is customer service. No one wants to shop where they feel unwelcome. My recent experience at this location felt more like a Gitmo indoctrination circa 2003. I was not welcomed, nor thanked, nor even approached by a staff member (except for the soulless formality of a temperature check), all of whom had the defensive expressions of caged animals. I do not know what happened, but this location used to be a bit friendlier. My impulse is to blame management but i am not in possession of all the facts. Whatever the case, this store is not currently justifying its retail dollar and i cannot recommend shopping there unless, like myself, you needed a physical thing (Zeppelin BBC, 2-CD set for an impending road trip). I want to like this place but they need to hone their personality so it isnt just a commercial nightstick. There is an annual event in the US called Record Store Day. Its supposed to be a fun celebration...i am hopeful that this place tries to rememver that.

Love this place and glad its still here. I went there recently to look for some KISS records and found two I was looking for. And also like the tee shirts they have.

Awesome selection of DVDs, including dedicated foreign film and even Western sections. Also the first shop Ive seen with specific sections for stoner rock in both their CD and vinyl racks. Highly recommended. Nice staff too.

Had a really great selection, all the employees were very helpful and kind, and they even take your temperature before you come in to keep everyone as safe as possible! Found alot of great movies I had been searching for, and a couple of gems I just kinda stumbled upon! Will definitely be going back when Im in the area again!

I am so glad it is still in business. I like CDs. If you dont have internet or WiFi access, I can download to my phone. I tried to find some movies, but alas they didnt exist. Still love all the CDs I got!

Alternative to Amoeba! Not as big a selection as the San Jose one. Tons of music, CDs, vinyl, movies, shirts, and other merch. Also the selection at this location was pricier than some other locations.

Always great coming here and searching for new (old) material. Typically has a large selection of used albums, including some that are hard to find elsewhere.Bay Area institution!

Rasputins is the last hold out of a soon by gone era. Get your super cheap CDs, DVDs and vinyl while you can. They have vast assortment of obscure music and movies too. Dont be completely dependent on the cloud for your entertainment.

Efficiently managed COVID protocol, including managed cue to get in, temperature check at entrance, masks enforced. Trade-in process was smooth and fast. All staff was friendly and accommodating. Overall, great experience given current COVID rules.

The SF store is definitely closed and the Berkeley store is temporarily closed.Talked my neighbor into taking me to the Pleasant Hill store.Didnt have high expectations of finding 2 DVD titles that Ive been looking for since the start of the pandemic.1 was Mission Impossible - Season 7 and the other, The Return of the 5 Venoms.Was expecting to come home empty handed.Wrong. I found both titles.As always, I left with more than 2 titles. I ended up with 7.Not bad for a Black Friday and I didnt have to wait in line.Happy day after Thanksgiving.Gear up folks and head to Pleasant Hill.The name saids it all.

Theres enough distance to keep me and other browsers separate. Although I would like to see more variety in the media offerings, I love going to any Rasputin store regardless

They told me to Go away. Ive shopped here my whole life. Happy they where open through Covid. On Record Store day I decide to get some records and support. One of the albums (brand new) I bought was defective and skipped on 4 tracks. I lagged on getting back to exchange (tried twice and they where closed. I should have checked their hours). When I tried to exchange the guy looked over the record. He said he saw a divot but did not have a record player to test. He said he would have to take my word, but then said I was way past the 8 day return policy. I understand I was way past the return policy date, but tried to reason with them letting them know the record was defective and I wanted an exchange for the same album. He didnt budge so I politely asked if there was maybe a manager or someone else I could talk to. His response was They are just going to tell you to go away.... I will go away. Forever. I will no longer shop here. This guy really needs to find another gig if he talks to folks like that.

Every other location is better. If you want vinyl or VHS or cassettes go to one of the other locations or a Half Priced Books. If you want DVDs or blu-rays for cheap then yes go here because thats basically the entire store.

Excellent selection of cds, dvds and Blu-ray’s. Very covid safe, they take temperatures and require you to wear masks and hand sanitizer. I visited on a Saturday so there was a line, usually an annoyance, but the joy I got from getting some of my favorite albums on cd was well worth the wait. I recommend this joint to any fan of movies or cds. (They also had a ton of vinyl)

Good selection of used stuff if your tight on cash.

Dont take your used records unless they are in pristine condition and then they wont give you very much for them. I took 4 boxes of records that my dad had in his garage when he recently passed away and they kept them for a little over a week and then called me to tell me none of them are worth buying. There was a lot of the main rock roll bands from the 50, 60 and 70s era. Not worth taking it to them. I am disappointed in them.

I took my than 1 hour to sell our CD. Also the person that was doing it had a attitude like he did not care and took his sweet time I had to get his attention to get working on getting things done. I went in there looking for a season of a DVD which they didnt have. But I started looking at the CDs. Their CDs were priced very affordable. I bought a couple but I went to their blowout bin and bought 40 CDs for $0.50 each which I will be enjoying for the next several months. this place has a great selection of vinyl albums CDs DVDs and other related items to support music and movie watching.

If the other Rasputin doesnt have it. This one will. Old building and style that makes the store fun to visit. Dudes at the counter are a little un-enthusiastic. They could maybe humor people about their purchase and not be in such a rush.........with no line in the store

I love Rasputins movie section because when you buy five used films there is a $5 off discount which almost always end up being cheaper then Amazon, ebay and every other source of cinema. The great thing about their inventory is that it is always being updated so I am always finding new (or old depending on how you look at it) things to watch.

This is THE place to go for all things digital and music related! The huge amount of CDs and Records is overwhelming amazing. I could find any artist or band Im looking for easily with their organized sections for genres and alphabetized artists/bands. They also have a large selection of DVDs and VCR tapes, even video games! This place has something for everyone. Today I purchased Sublime CDs, some posters and a shirt for a very affordable price. Nothing beats Rasputins.

Found allot or movies I was looking for on blueray all for 3.95. They also had that if you sign up with them using a number and email you got 5 dollars off 5 blueray purchases. Ill be coming back for my hard to find movie needs for sure.
