I recently purchased two colored hanging light fixtures at Lounge Lizard on Hawthorne Blvd. The store describes itself as an eclectic emporium showcasing an ever-changing variety of mid-century furnishings, decor & lamps.I purchased a longer hanging light for $179 and a round one for $99. I had a $100 store credit so I put the balance of $178 on my credit card. These were to be the focal points in a guest bathroom in my new home. The fixtures were very dirty. The metal top of the taller fixture was caked with dust, which I cleaned off with a soft bristle toothbrush. To wash the glass, I held it under cool water, and the color immediately started to slide off. I did not use anything to wash it other than the running tap water: no cloth, sponge, or brush. The color appeared to have been spray-painted onto the glass. I set it on some paper towels to air dry. The color on the smaller globe did not wash off. (Picture 1)Three days later, I brought the fixtures back to Lounge Lizard and spoke with the owner, Chris. I explained what happened and requested a refund. I said it looked like the color was sprayed onto clear glass and sold as pink glass. He tried to convince me this is how it is made: dipped into a resin to add color. When I again asked for my money back, he said I destroyed a vintage piece and that he would not take it back.I am very familiar with vintage glass and I know it is not dipped in resin to give it color. Even if it were dipped, the color should not wash off in plain water. I believe the item was misrepresented as vintage colored glass. Depression-era glass has the color infused into the making of the glass (picture 2). Carnival glass had both infused color and a coating to give it an iridescence (picture 3). Both of these types of glass can be washed without the color coming off.The Lounge Lizard owner makes a lot of reproduction pieces, including lamps, shades, and wall clocks and does his own repair of fixtures. I dont know what was done, nor by whom, to this clear glass piece to give it color. It was misrepresented as a vintage color light fixture, and I would like my money back for both fixtures at this point. I do not want a store credit as I will probably never shop there again. A reputable store owner should stand behind his products and provide a full refund if the customer is not satisfied with the quality of the item.
I love this store, not only is it enormous, but their inventory seems to turn over pretty quickly, so theres always new stuff to check out. The owners/employees are super friendly and helpful. In addition to selling vintage furniture and interiors, they also make their own groovy vintage style lampshades. I had them make a custom one for me and it cheerfully welcomes me home whenever I enter my house.
Lovely place, especially the lamps! Not a thrift store but prices seemed fair, reasonable. Selectively painting some pieces in bright colors gives an upbeat vibe to the experience, not to mention the custom lampshades on the lovingly restored lamps.
I absolutely love this place! Their pieces are all so unique and affordable, plus the staff is always so friendly! Cant wait to get more goodies from them!
I go to a lot of flea markets vintage stores antique stores and lets go ahead and throw Goodwill in there too. My wife and I like to cruise around and look for old vintage pieces to put in our home. Weve recently moved and were looking for just a couple of nice items, including two comfortable chairs for our reading room, and a couple of other end tables. This was an nicely displayed store. Relatively good size. Didnt enjoy it as much as I thought found that the pricing was extremely high and 80 to 90% of the items in the store was painted. I prefer more natural appearances in old furniture even if its marked up. I enjoy the purity of the wood and the look of the original designer even if theyre mass produced.
Absolutely awesome spot. Classic Portland vibes. The inventory and staff are great. I called from Seattle and had some questions about current inventory and Nolan texted me photos of their entire stock of couches and loves seats!!! I really appreciated it.
Thank you so much for our gorgeous table and chairs, and coffee table, too! We love this store so much, and the owner, Christopher, and his staff were so helpful and kind when I was in today. I highly recommend Lounge Lizard for all of the beautiful, vintage furniture you may need to outfit your space.
This is an awesome furniture / antique store. It has a great selection of everything youd want to fill your home or apartment for those looking for the vintage look and feel. I was really interested in their vintage Edison bulbs and it was great to see they had quite the selection. If youre in the area, stop on by and do some shopping!
There are some great finds here! I’ve purchased several pieces and love them. The staff is friendly and helpful and the prices are excellent.
Very friendly and knowledgeable. Bought a desk for working from home here. Great to be able to buy local and know it was built locally too.
I love this place. Ive been coming here for years, the selection is great, the staff is wonderful. I like to just pop in periodically just to see what that have. I recently ordered a custom piece, and it couldnt have been easier, and I couldnt have been happier. Thank you!
Great selection, cool shop.
Super cool stuff! The worker Nicki is very friendly and also has a dope mustache. They can customize anything and everything and make lamps and a lot of other things IN STORE!
Perfectly curated collection of vintage furniture. They also have an impressive lighting selection with unique lampshades made on-site. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. I got a sense they enjoy their work.
I had a great experience shopping for furniture here. I went in with a vague idea of what I wanted. The gal who helped me was attentive without being overbearing or pushy. I visited both showrooms looking to furnish an empty living room. I left with a couch, an arm chair, an ottoman, a side table, and next-day delivery for all of it. The price was super reasonable, much better than similar stores in the neighborhood, and all the pieces are in great condition. Even the delivery guy was super nice and helpful. They have a great selection of couches, chairs, and tables of all sizes. Lots of quirky decor and smaller household items. They make their own lampshades and theyre all gorgeous! I would definitely not hesitate to shop here again for anything I need for my home, large or small.
I have bought smaller items and lamp from lounge lizard. Good selection of furniture and TONS of lamps and shades. Staff is very friendly and helpful. A very nice experience overall!
We walked in this place an immediately found the perfect chair. The owner was so nice and very helpful, as was everyone else that was working when we came in. The prices are very reasonable and the furniture is of very good quality. I think they sell some pieces that are handmade by the owner as well that are very unique! This should be your first stop if you are looking to buy unique, quality pieces of furniture.
Great place. Really well laid out. It contains a wide variety of items - you can spend much time just wondering around and looking at the stock, and you would probably still miss an item or two. The staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this shop
Has a big selection of beautiful and reasonably priced lamp shades
Im very impressed with the prices on most things at this extra large vintage furnishings emporium. Most couches were under $1000. Lamps and light fixtures are really the claim to fame here. They custom make retro lampshades here and have tons of fun novelty lamps, 70s pendants, chandeliers & covers of all kinds. Great staff -they are very fun & helpful. A worthwhile stop for anyone who decorates with vintage items.
This store Is amazing. They have 2 stores close to each other. The lamp and lampshade collection is the best. If they dont have the lamp you want, you dont need it. They know retro. The prices are fair. The furniture was wonderful today. I am sure it changes weekly.Great people....very helpful.....great taste.
I love my new reclaimed wood coffee table! It looks so nice, and the price was very reasonable. All of the staff here are very helpful and friendly (special shout-out to Mark!). Ill definitely be coming back for a lamp at some point- they hand stitch all of their own shades, and theyre so pretty!
Staff are incredibly nice and helpful, delivery was super great and affordable! Would highly recommend!
I like their stuff and the little store was well laid out. I went there for something pretty specific, but was scrupulously ignored by all the people who worked there. Im not youthful in age or dress, so I guess I did not deserve any hipster warmth. The nice stuff gets them their stars, indifferent staff removes all but two.
The staff and owners here are truly amazing! Super shout out to Kyle who was wonderful! We buy all our lights here and have always received great customer service.
Lounge Lizard could substantially be argued to be the very best furniture company in Portland. While their products are largely used (not all of them, they design and build many of their own originals) the experienced staff refurbishes or refits the products to a beautiful and uniquely new life. One recieves the kind of service and options of services here that one could expect from a Pearl District boutique or a national high end chain. Magnificent work guys!
Best place for furniture in Portland! Retro...Mid Century...and lots more to choose from! Cool and Fair owner to deal with ...very friendly staff
Looks like they refurbish vintage or retro style furniture. They got some clothes here too. Lots of lights. Very Portland. If youre hipster or you just want a cool accent furniture item. BAM. Its there. And they have vinyl records already in place so you know yours will fit 🤟
I got bedbugs from a La-Z-Boy couch I purchased used at Lounge Lizard. There was no doubt of the origin of the problem, as this was the only new item introduced to my house at the time of the infestation. I called Lounge Lizard and informed them that they sold me a contaminated product and their response was quite literally “Good luck.” They never responded to let me know that they were not selling other items at the store from the same source, or if they had a pest control expert search their premises to determine the extent of the problem. They simply never responded. So beware, if you shop here there’s a decent chance you could end up with a serious and costly infestation like I did.
Very weird, semi-discriminatory experience with the staff at Lounge LizardI went here on 8/11 to potentially buy a couch, and the staff made me feel deeply uncomfortable, and like I was doing something wrong. To give context, I have a speech disability which means that my voice sounds a little weird to people that arent used to it.The way that I intended to shop for couches was to try out different couches I liked visually, and see how they felt over the course of a conversation I was having with my friend who was with me.As a person with chronic pain, sometimes whether or not a couch or chair causes physical discomfort isnt apparent until twenty minutes after sitting down. As couches are a relatively major purchase, it is important that I know whether or not its comfortable for my body. Im not sure what the staff thought was happening instead of what Ive described above, which is partially why Im choosing to clarify. The staff seemed immediately unnerved by my presence, and within ten minutes of sitting on the first couch I found, they sent someone over to investigate. I think its important to be clear that this action was clearly not a routine hi how are you, this person silently sat down right next to me and stared at me until I gave him my attention. I dont know if this person was just unsure how to proceed, but it felt super uncomfortable on my end.My friend and I were then followed around the shop by a different staff member wearing a George Clinton shirt. This person checked in on us every five minutes. This person also seemed to assume I was deaf, and tried to mitigate that by speaking louder, more simply, and gesturing a whole lot. None of which would actually be helpful to someone actually deaf, but I guess thats besides the point. At multiple points in this experience I communicated directly with the staff using a written note app on my phone, hoping that would make them less nervous about me and my intentions. After about an hour of this guy following us around thinking Im deaf despite us - - I thought - - making it pretty clear that we didnt need assistance, I finally take it on myself to tell this person that Im not deaf and he can speak normally if hed like.To his credit he did apologize in a way that seemed genuine, and he seemed to be really embarrassed about the whole thing. It wasnt my goal to make him feel bad, I just didnt feel like the way he was treating me was the way hed treat other customers and I was hoping that giving this bit of personal context would make him stop and leave us alone. He didnt, though, he just doubled down on it and maintained that same uncomfortable focus on us.I felt sort of forced to interact with this person and engage in conversation, then when we finally left to leave (without a couch) he just gave us a cold yeah thanks.I have considered the possibility that Lounge Lizard pays commission, and that what this person was doing may have been partially because of that. I understand this - but even if this is the case, Lounge Lizard staff should be trained on how to treat people with disabilities and how to cultivate an accessible and inclusive sales environment - as it is extremely clear no such training has been implemented. This is not an isolated incident, its just the most severe. Ive lived in Portland for over a decade and Lounge Lizard is a place I often end up at whenever I want to buy a weird lamp, and Ive always felt low-key uncomfortable with the way the staff treat me.I dont write reviews and Im not a vindictive person, I know that my experience is not going to be the experience that most able-bodied people have at Lounge Lizard. Im writing this in hopes that somebody at Lounge Lizard sees it and takes concrete steps to make Lounge Lizard a more welcoming place for people with disabilities.
This place has a good selection of unique pieces.the staff has always been friendly and helpful with any questions.support them as one of our more amazing local second hand shops!tip: theres vintage clothing in the back corner!
Love their creative unique selection
My Fiance and I went here to check out a new sofa and were mainly intending to window shop but ended up buying instead. The staff here was incredible. I feel terrible that I dont remember the sales associates name that helped us but he was super helpful and friendly. He got us a good deal on the sofa and two new end tables. The owner checked in on us as well and was outstandingly friendly as well. They were able to get the furniture delivered same day and even the delivery guy was incredible. My Fiance and the sales associate had a good chat about comics as well (Glad you moved here from Alaska, Mr. Sales Dude!) I cant say enough good things about this place. You guys have really developed a friendly and inviting environment and hired the right people.
The staff are wonderful. Great finds, even better prices. Cant wait to buy more pieces here
Both stores were great, each very different so its almost like 2 completely different stores, but, you can combine your shipping order! Really helpful, and, if you dont find what you want then and there, come back in a week and new stuff is there! Will for sure shop here again.
One of Hawthornes better antique/retro furniture stores. Easily the best selection of lighting. Prices are fair, but some of their refurbished items are uninspired and overly trendy (ubiquitous and oddly expensive pieces featuring hairpin legs and rustic barn wood tables). Very friendly staff.
Great selection of funky vintage furniture and furnishings. Onsite artisans create new pieces and rehab old stuff here as well. Definitely worth a look if you like the retro look!
Love the guys at the Lounge Lizard. Very friendly and helpful.
Great vintage furniture at all budgets. Super friendly staff. Very helpful with goos advice and moving furniture to my car.
They have a good assortment of retro furniture and a few retro odds and ends. Oh, and the lighting is pretty awesome. I wish I had a bigger place, it would be filled with a lot of their stuff. The price and value is pretty good for the quality they stock.
Nice mid-century modern furniture store. Made me think of a lot of the home our family & friends had back in the 50s & 60s.
Cool spot for funky and vintage items. Lots of variety, unique but a little on the spendy side. Watch their repainted items... the ones I saw did not appear to be sealed.
When I visited, I found a combination of vintage lamps, new vintage-style pillows and shades, repainted old furniture, couches and chairs, and a small selection of vintage household appliances, pottery and glassware. There was even a selection of mens and womens vintage clothing in the back of the store. The saleswoman was colorful and friendly.
Huge selection of retro lamps. Great service. Great pieces of retro furnishings too.
I typically dont review and dont intend to be over-critical in this review. The employess here are great, talk just the right amount to the customer, and are able to answer questions to the best of their ability. I found that nice. The downside to this store and other vintage stores, whether the items sold are brand new or not, is that there are so many things inside and theres so much room. I bought a chair that felt good in the store and I didnt notice anything wrong. The price wasnt too bad, but I had serious allergies as did my kid after we brought it home. We vacuumed with a Hepa filter too. We finally used a shop-vac, a Rainbow vac, and a Hepa vac multiple times. There is less dirt and the smoke smell has diminished. I hadnt noticed that smell among all the other furniture. If you have allergies or are senstive to smoke or chemicals, you might have to use your nose a lot in the store. See if you can get the chair moved to an area without too many things to smell better. Take some time. In my home, it took 30 minutes plus to see the effects. I thought I was over-reacting until my kid brought it up also.So basically, its the same thing here as elsewhere. Caveat emptor (Buyer beware) !
Lots of stock. They Are able to custom make shades and lamps. Very helpful staff.
Found an awesome couch here that they delivered to my place less than a half hour later. Have been in multiple times since then and the staff has been real friendly.
Awesome place, awesome staff! Great finds, some are a bit pricey, but so creative its worth it. Also 5* Bc the staff make the very funky cool lamp shades!
Great place for vintage/retro furniture, lamps, art, mirrors and housewares! Plenty of restored items in their original glory OR funky colors.
Unique one of a kind retro furniture, tables, couches, chairs, shelves....and really cool lamps. All priced reasonably. Some of the smaller pieces, that havent been upcycled or that are not in mint condition: Way over priced. A+ for customer service.
Interesting space, with well priced retro. I found their colour palate a bit strong for the painted wood furniture they are restoring/reselling, but the funk is strong with this place. Their own designs of Jetsons-esque lamp shades and pendants are charming as is the staff.
Really cool place for antique furniture lovers. They did an excellent job organizing all and the price is reasonable.
My go to place for when Im hunting for funky, retro, and fun furniture. Super friendly staff, awesome selection, delivery seals the deal!!
Great focus pieces, vintage furniture in pretty good shape, and sooooo much unique lighting. Always a delight, when when Im just browsing.
Engaging, knowledgeable, creative people in a magical world full of original and vintage treasures. The experience was the highlight of my day. I’ll be returning often.
I came here looking for furniture for my 4 year old Bearded dragon (Thomas), and was sharply disappointed when I discovered it was a regular furniture store. Giving two stars due to misleading name.Edit: Lounge Lizard was very kind with their suggestions for Thomas. Great crew.
Wow the artist who does the painting is Amazing.
Fun, friendly, fair-priced....with a surprising amount of lighting!
Helpful, friendly staff and good selection of quality midcentury modern furniture, furnishings, decoration, and modern lamps to match.
Ecletic selective of pieces, but a lot of things are just old pieces with a nice coat of paint on it. They make some of the shelves themselves and upcharge extraordinarily for it.
I came here looking for furniture for my 4 year old bearded dragon (Thomas) and they had this 50s sectional that was just perfect
Lots of great mid century furniture for your pad!
Love this place. I used to get all my furniture on Craigslist but these guys prices and selection are so good it hardly seems worth the time to go chasing after individual deals.
Store looks amazing! (Came here from reddit, thought the two star just for a joke was unfair so hopefully this goes some way to balance out the numbers!)
Amazing throw back to the 70s, good and educated people willing to accomodate with all types of house deccor
Amazing place for tacky to classy mid century modern. Think Madonna Inn glamour!
Best shop in town for cool and unique vintage furniture, with price that wont break the bank.
If youre looking for a great selection of mid-century furniture and fixtures, this is kind of one of the places you should stop by first! Really friendly staff and reasonable delivery policies.
Wonderful little spot for treasures and adventures
They always have an amazing selection of vintage furniture as well as vintage clothing. Love, love, love this place.
Funkiest furniture with the best staff!
They always have cool stuff in here at a pretty reasonable price
This place is packed with vintage/retro finds. Go frequently to find hidden gems!
Best vintage store Ive been too. Staff was great to talk with.
A bit pricey for what they have to offer.
I would furnish my whole house with this stuff. They have a great selection.
We bought an amazing red couch here for a very good price, and sold them some stuff we no longer really wanted. It was a good deal, and saved the hassle that seems to come with most other furnature I have obtained. Also, it is refeshing to have a resale store that isnt a womans clothing store in disguize.
Great vintage funk. Furniture, house wares, and lighting.
They stand by their work. Bought a set of chairs, and they fixed it when one fell apart. Thanks!
Great ideas for my place in Eugene
So many great finds!
Great selection and the staff is awesome.
Lots of fun mid century pieces
Love this place...so eclectic
Just called and asked if they bought furniture. Guy responded that they often do, but wasnt in need of a hutch at the moment, and then just hung up as I was in the middle of followup question. Why the need to be so rude?? Not impressed.
Not the style I was looking for but very Portlandia!
Great, classic pieces, nice prices!
If looking for vintage furniture, this might be the place that you are looking for.
Mid century modern heaven
Dont go here... I need all the things!
Great customer service
Wow. What more can I say.
A little over priced but the staff was friendly.
Vintage vibe.
