We had issues with our e-bike and the manufacturer was not helpful. After two months, we finally brought the bike to Kai at Upcycles and they repaired the issue immediately, and for a super fair price.Highly recommend this place.

Incredibly helpful, informative, and sociable. The hours at this shop fill in gaps for cycle shops in the area, ensuring solutions for dedicated riders - any day of the week. This shop gives you advice, support, and recommendations in addition to straightforward service with a smile. 5/5 would visit again and again.

Two bikes: One was a full tune up, the other just new tubes. $260 all together. Both bikes went flat after one ride. Replacing tubes and fixing tires is clearly listed on the website as a service covered under a tube up, so basically we got screwed. Kai is a nice guy so I won’t give this One Star but I’m heated. Go somewhere else

Im so lucky this is my closest bike shop because its the best one Ive been to. Even though its small, they always have everything I need. I mostly do all my own work on my bikes, but they always have the parts and tools Im looking for at great prices. Kai is also a great resource for talking about touring and giving advice on how to build up and improve my bikes. The bikes they fix up and sell are fast, solid, affordable bikes that hold up in an oregon winter. I wouldnt hesitate to buy one for my next bike.

I owe these guys a lot! I brought my old bike in to have a tune-up. They saw that bike was clearly not the right size for me, and told me how to size up a new bike. They still looked over the old one for free, and gave me some good tips on how to sell the old one to buy a new one. Ive been back since for some smaller stuff, and its always been positive. Im incredibly grateful to have them in the neighborhood.

These guys treat you like a human being. I was happy to discover theyre the same guys I used to know on Dekum. They dont act like theyre smarter than you when it comes to bikes (although they certainly are) and theyre great at somewhat meaningful smalltalk while the fix your bike on the spot at a great rate. Ill definitely be coming back whenever I need some servicing again, which will be soon.

Kai and his crew are not only good at repairing bikes, theyre also good people. They will give you an honest opinion without trying to upsell you. The bike I took in isnt very expensive, they replaced the flat tube and recommended some work, but also said that too much would be excessive on this particular bike. They understand that every cyclist has a budget and they work to stay within that budget without compromising the work. The shop isnt fancy or big, but they get the work done well and for a decent price.

These guys are great! Kai was very nice, honest, and quick. I walked in to ask a question about some knocking in my crank and he took a look over the entire bike and gave me a really honest estimate. He had the bike finished within two hours. There are a lot of bike shops in Portland, many of which are run by super trendy young folks who only give you bad services and disdainful glances....not these guys! They are expanding soon and my hope is that they can serve even more bicyclists with their honest opinions, excellent expertise, and good prices.

Spending the majority of a day looking for a cycle appropriate for longer rides and feeling disappointed, I dropped by UpCycles as last stop on the way home (my first time checking the place out). I looked around the shop and spotted a nice, appropriately sized cycle built on a Trek 1220 aluminum frame. For a very fair price, Kai offered to re-outfit the frame with a combination of new and gently used parts suitable for bicycle touring. Further, he was able/willing to accommodate the somewhat small timeframe I had available (as a decent length over-night ride out of town was planned for the following weekend). Kai got to work on it Monday, and I was able to pick up the finished project Friday evening. The cycle felt comfortable and solid- I had an enjoyable, problem-free time riding that weekend (which, happily, continues to be the case).

Review №43

These guys are very friendly, but incompetent. The replacement tire they used for my tune-up was too large to fit under my fender without rubbing, which is fine, but they didnt just tell me that and find a proper solution. Instead, the bike was given to me with the tire deflated to 40 psi, ensuring that in a couple weeks when I noticed and filled it properly, I would notice the issue. The front fender was also only tightened to finger tight, which I could fix myself, but both my disc brakes rubbed as well, which I couldnt.I brought the bike back exactly THREE times to have the brakes fixed, but they were unable to do it. I finally gave up and brought it to a shop Ive trusted for years, but thats a 45-minute bus ride away. They solved the issue same day and the bike has been amazing since. They also told me that the rear wheel, like my fender, was also on finger tight, which is a bit scary.
