Amazingly helpful staff that know theyre stuff when it comes to standing seam metal roofing.
Grandpa took me to lumber yards when I was child. A trip here brings me smiles thinking of carefree days hanging with gramps. What takes me back is how Shur-way smells of fresh & seasoned wood with their saw dust lingering on the lot.Lots of home project items can be had here. Many essentials for maintaining your house. Nice folk to help you. Friendly they are. Efficient is their method. Competitive prices.Counter on the right when you walk in. Someone will be right with you. If they have what you need youll know quickly. Recommend this local shop that tries to fill your home project needs. Shed kits available here. Ask about delivery.
Called and got a quote over the phone. They would not take payment over the phone and said we had to pay in person. They said they set the plywood aside for us, but a couple hours later when we got there they said it sold, but they had a more expensive option we could buy. Never going there again
Great personal service. Good people.
Easy to work with and good prices thanks for all your help 👍
Great prices, always friendly, and just the best customer service I could ask for. They really will go above and beyond. Thanks Brent, Euan, Navario, Corey and the rest of ya!
Great customer service. Great prices. Good selection, especially now when lots of suppliers are low on lumber.
Kind of a rough gem on the edge of residential N Portland. They didnt have what we hoped to find (raised beds, either completed or ready-to-assemble kits) but the staff was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive.
Its a great place for lumber and hardware. Nice people.
Friendly people. Definitely recommend this place
I emailed Shurway because I found them on a vendors site and wanted to see if they indeed carried the product. I got an email back from Brent saying they did not deal with this company. I followed up with a reply email asking if they had any other products that were similar. I got no response. I waited a day and emailed again. No response. As someone thats been in sales, Im what you would call a warm lead. Someone that has shown interest in your company. Leads cost money. All the marketing you do is to get someone to contact you. Then, when they do, you dont respond? I would say thats a surefire way to go out of business. Yes, Im sure youre very busy at this time, but a quick email back to make a suggestion wouldnt take but a minute. But you chose not to do that. I guess Ill have to go Parr or Mr. Plywood as their service must be better than this.
Super friendly folks. They were happy to help every step of my visit. My only regret was going to the standard big box option and not visiting sooner it would have saved me time and money.
Yard workers great. Counter guy not so much. Ordered a large amount of lumber in person, paid and asked when I could pick it up with the company flatbed. I was told anytime just call the morning of to let them know what time I would be there. I called 8am and asked if they could have it ready after 3pm. Sure no problem fast forward to 330pm and here I am sorting and stacking my lumber. Yard guy was super helpful with this says he had no idea this had to be pulled. Second time this has happened at this location. Really trying to support the small business but you can only do so much
Great experience! So helpful and patient. Highly recommend this place. Matt was excellent!
Great selection, awesome prices. Some of the wood has imperfections, but if you can work around them, it is a great deal.
Great friendly staff. Been looking for siding, found for great price at Shurway.
Great! Nice staff. Very much wanted to help us. Got everything we wanted in a storage shed.
Bought an 8x12 shed kit, so this review is for that plus the customer service I experienced during the build. The shed kit, for what it is, is a great value. I opted for pressure treated floor joists and the 11x11 concrete pier blocks (huge mistake). With delivery, the cost was under $1400. I would do this again, but it would be easier and would turn out better. If you are considering a shed kit, or a shed kit from Shur Way, you need to know a few things up front.First, this is not an easy kit to build, and requires A LOT of attention to detail, a decent amount of construction knowledge and patience. For you to have the best experience, Ill share what I learned building this shed. A word of caution, DO NOT opt for the 11x11 pier blocks. This made the project overly complicated. They are designed to anchor the perimeter of a structure, so they should be on the outer edges of the floor assembly. Not enough come in the kit to do this, so youll have to buy more. Also, the way the siding attaches to the walls and floor joists isnt compatible with how the pier blocks work. Just dont do it!1. You MUST inspect every single item you get in this kit. I had to return a sheet of T1-11 because it wasnt square. One of the 2x4s was complete trash, about 1/3 of the dimensional lumber was twisted, which can make a lot of the build very challenging or downright impossible. Several of the T1-11 sheets had wood scrap embedded into the finish surface (this is a factory issue, not a Shur-Way issue, and the sheets come bundled so Shur-Way cant inspect these). About 1/4 of the 1x4 trim pieces were garbage: warped, crooked, curved, overly knotty. I managed to make most of them work, as they arent structural. Two pieces simply shattered when I tried to nail into them or force them to be straight. The trusses (which Shur-Way buys and doesnt make themselves) were horribly inconsistent. My roof and eave boards are wavy because the angles and overall widths of the trusses are within about 1-1.5 off.2. You MUST measure and cut (if needed) EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF WOOD that comes with this. I didnt, which was my mistake. If you see a 2x4x12, it comes from the stack of those at the yard, and will be longer than 12. Maybe by 1/2, maybe by 3/4, maybe a full inch. This is critical if you want the shed to come together as smooth as possible. These fractions add up, so your trusses wont fit, or your T-11 siding joints wont align with the wall studs.3. Fasteners, hardware and tools: If you have a framing nailer, USE it, or buy one, borrow or rent one. This will shave hours off of the job. The kit comes with most everything youll need, but I ended up using some of my own fasteners because of the instructions (more later). I ended up using my miter saw, circular saw, reciprocating saw, several hammers, oscillating multi-tool, impact drill/driver, chisels, sabre saw, belt sander, plus the usuals (pencils, builders square, straight edge, hand saw).4. The instructions are frustrating. I cant say Id do a better job, but read each step thoroughly and make sure you fully understand the step before you even think about touching the lumber. Some of the steps, like: attach the trusses to the top of the wall plate using 7d nails are just not possible. The way the trusses are assembled, youll need some connectors or very long structural screws. This step in particular was the worst. If you arent sure about the nomenclature or wording of a step, take a break and google what the instructions want you do to. Youll save yourself a lot of time, frustration and possible damage to your shed. One of the steps was to use the included door frame angle pieces, which you have to make yourself with scrap lumber. No dimensions given, although you should make them big enough to actually provide some dimensional stability.5. Study how to apply architectural shingles before you start. The customer service was great, and they worked with me to address the issues I had.
These guys are awesome! They always provide great service and the prices are very competitive. They put Home Depot to shame in service and prices!
Good selection, pricing and service.
After a recommendation to go here from our contractor, we were pleasantly surprised at the level of professionalism, accuracy, and helpfulness of everyone we came in contact with. They were nice enough to make more cuts than they should have on the 15 sheets of plywood. On the second trip back, we had them wrap 10 sticks of 16 moulding in the back of the truck and they were so expedient. Best of all, call me old fashioned, but I love that every worker addresses you as Sir. It is a little thing that goes a long way. Well done Shur-way, Vancouver! You have earned my business for life!
Great place to get wood, tight parking lot with lots going on.
Purchased $11,500 worth of decking on Friday after they checked their stock to make sure they had it. Brent (Manager) called Monday to say Vancouver store sold it over the weekend. I would have to purchase 16 boards instead of the 12 I paid for on Friday. Of course at the higher cost. $$$$ Bait and switch. Buyer beware. Too many excuses.. Still waiting for my money to be refunded.
These people are great. Always helpful and always friendly. Been going here for eons and prefer to not go anywhere else for lumber supplies
Great place to visit and good work crew
Im not sure about this place. I called ahead to see if they had contractor pricing on clear cedar and they told me that, if I gave them my business card with a CCB number on it, they would put me in their system as a cash account and I would get the contractor price. So I went in, gave them my business card with my CCB number on it and told them to enter me into their system. I then paid for my lumber but noticed that they didnt give me a contractor price. I told the guy that I had called ahead to make sure I could get the contractor price and he told me that setting up a cash account doesnt necessarily mean I get a contractor price. Then another employee, Im assuming the one I talked to on the phone, piped up and said that they would put me in the system as a contractor because they saw that my business card had a CCB number on it. But, since I had already paid for my lumber, I cant get the discount this time. Next time, Ill get the discount. So I spend over $400 on clear cedar and didnt get the discount because their policy doesnt seem to be upheld by every employee. They overcharged me about $20 by not giving me the contractor price. Maybe not a lot of money but its my money and I probably wont drive all the way up North next time I need lumber. I want my contractor price without having to haggle and negotiate. I pay my insurance, bond, and license fees just like any other contractor, I shouldnt be treated any differently.
Been a few times.Nice to a local place doing well.Staff seems nice.
There are many things I like about this place. I like the low prices for really good wood, cabinet supplies, construction supplies, and tools. I like the location, well honestly, its close to my house.
Love this local lumber supply, the people are helpful and efficient and you dont have to wait on line or navigate a massive box store.
Friendly service with most all of your DIY projects
Overall experience was great. Chose Shur-way after reading the negative reviews on Parr, received great service (from Brent). Prices were generally cheaper than I had found elsewhere and the selection, including the range of sizes for all types, which was crucial for my project. Will always be my first stop for lumber going forward.
Expert staff. Quality materials. Great pricing.
Great service, with helpful and knowledgeable staff. Good prices too!
Great place, great value, great people
These guys are great. They know what they are doing, the prices and quality beat Parr on nearly everything and they care about your business. I shop with them anytime I can. Plus they can get hard to find lumber and youre not shopping at HD or Lowes!
Brent was great.
Always excellent service and prices!
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. They cut our lumber to our specifications and offered suggestions for the project we were doing.
Kind and knowledgeable staff, great selection of wood and other building materials, and not a big box store.
Ever since I moved to st. johns I have gone to shur-way to get all the lumber and building supplies for my various house projects. They always seem to have everything I could ever need. But what is best about this place is that will actually help you learn how to build things, and what you need for it, if you have no experience. One employee, Phil, is so awesome. He basically showed me how I needed to play my new deck out and helped me figure out everything I needed for it. They always remember your name when you go in too. Its also a local business. So along with them and ACE hardware, I will never need to go to home depot or lowes again! yahooo!
Great staff very helpful!
Good prices!
Very friendly guys, always willing to help
Great place to work .

They have a good selection of woods and other various building supplies, usually less expensive than big box stores.
