Extremely helpful staff. Spent a lot of time with me trying to trouble-shoot a problem with my machine/needle etc. Fabric selection is beautiful, not only quilting fabrics, but lovely knits, waxed canvas and other apparel material. They also have an excellent yarn selection, relatively affordable with a good variety of hand-dyed stuff. It is a small shop and they do have to be strict about masks/number of people, but I really appreciated that, its not easy to ask folks to mask up/wait outside. Highly recommend.

What an amazing little shop! Stopped in here a few weeks back as I was waiting for a ride and wanted to warm up a bit. My mother is an avid quilter so thought I’d check it out on her behalf. The woman behind the counter was attentive and very pleasant. Lots of really neat, fabrics in both solids and prints from well known designers. Shop is small with a limited selection but what’s there appear to be gems. Also saw a small selection of nice quality yarns and knitting accessories. Recommended the place to mum who I’m sure will check it out on her next trip up to Portland! Thank you for the good conversation and allowing me to warm up!

Great selection of fabrics suitable for quilting. The People are very helpful and friendly. They do a box office mail order business (see their website). It was worthwhile going while vacationing in Wells-Ogunquit.

Expensive, but its a small fabric store in portland so its to be expected. pretty good selection of fabrics, the staff are super friendly and helpful with whatever questions Ive had. the only real negative is they dont really have much embroidery floss, but I understand that fabric is their main focusupdating this: the staff are amazing. without fail. every single time theyre so helpful and kind. its one of those places where i know i could probably get the notions cheaper somewhere else but i still choose to shop in there because i love it. very well curated selection of fabric and notions

I visited this shop for the first time today. Im really glad that I did!The owner, Mary, was keeping shop. She was super friendly and helpful with fabric and pattern advice. She mentioned that she tries to make alot of the patterns in her shop, so that she can give advice to her customers. The shop is downtown, but easily accessible. It is a relatively small shop, but has a beautiful and diverse selection. I was particularly impressed by the selection of indie patterns, including a plethora of different designers and styles. She even carries some mens and boys patterns. The fabric selection is beautiful, with a good variety of different substrates. While many of the fabrics veer toward the moderate/high end price range, her prices are very reasonable. (I know, because I found a few fabrics that I had been eyeing online for quite some time that are better priced at Z fabrics.)Next time Im on the prowl for a new pattern to make and some fabric to go along with it, Z fabrics will be my first stop!.

Went to go into the store with my mother. Now yes there is a limit of 5. The owner hollered at me to get out... Not wait or there are too many people can you wait out side. My mother got done what she wanted to and the woman said to my mother tell that woman she can come in. I think not! PS there were 3 in the store counting myself. I will never go there again!

LOVED stumbling on this place while I was on a Portland Foodie Tour. I found my way back the next day and picked up a hard to find Amy Butler pattern - The Sophia Carryall. I also may have picked up owl scissors and cotton webbing. The shop is quaint, but chock FULL of great fabric and notions and the moment I touch down in Portland Maine again, Im heading there. Ill even bring an empty suitcase. I wish I had photos of the shop to share, but I was so engrossed in touching all of the bolts of fabric that I didnt pull my phone out to take pics.

It’s not a very big shop, but they do have a lot of solids and prints from well-known designers. I always find what I need when I go in! Best selection of fabric I’ve found in Southern Maine.

Beautiful light-filled shop, lovely fabrics, yarn and patterns. The friendly shopkeeper offered suggestions for items that might interest me, but wasn’t pushy. Would definitely recommend.

Z fabrics has a ton of fabrics you might not find else where. Wonderful service. One draw back is that it is definitely more pricy than usually what I spend.

During business hours, the owner of this business shared my personal information with a male customer shed never met before - Including where I lived and that I lived alone at the time - because he was cute. I was shocked. She mocked me by asking, Its just a guy, are you afraid of men or something? She shared the full name of the stranger with me.When I googled him, I discovered this was a man who had stalked me for over a year. When I told the owner of Z Fabrics that this man had followed me consistently for a long time, she denied the situation happened and insisted shed never met him. I wouldnt have known his name had she not told me.I had to move because Z Fabrics put me in danger. This is not a business that supports the safety of women.

A great shop with a super friendly saleswoman. We were with the cruise ship in Portland and found this nice shop. Since we own some fabric shops in Germany, we were very interested. We were received very nice and felt very comfortable there.
