Starlight is the BEST and most helpful place for beginners like me. They are very accommodating and really care. Plus they have the best yarns and the shop is easy to navigate.

I drive an hour out of my way to come here for a reason. There is a more local shop but I find their staff can be condescending (when I asked for help they just told me read it again. Thanks, never would have thought of that). The atmosphere here is cozy and magical and the staff are super helpful with not only their own inventory, but theyll help you if youre stuck on a project and they know their stuff!

Thank you for the help today (1/26/21). My knitting friends and I were in your shop to select the best of the best materials for our projects. Ended up getting Scout paired with forest green mohair for the Botanical pullover by Purl Soho and blue sky paired with Mississippi Marsala for Mowrys Spark cardigan. Got to enjoy the snowy scene from the large storefront windows while shopping as well.

The selection is incredible and the staff is ready to help you find the perfect yarn for your project. Its a tactile Wonderland in there, such great colors and textures (not like the yarn aisle at joanns, this place is really atmospheric and lush.) Ive done several projects from the yarn I got here and the yarn worked well.

I ordered from the website, online. I found Starlight Knitting Society by searching for a specific set of knitting needles. The folks here provide exceptional customer service. They kept me informed about my order and package. They even provided support when the package seemed to be lost by the USPS, which was out of their control. Wow, what an incredible contemporary yarn shop! I went for the first time yesterday and absolutely fell in love. They have a great system set up for shopping with masks and sanitizing hands. Their yarn selection is TO DIE FOR, and they sell lots of other beautiful knitting accessories too. I highly, highly recommend this yarn shop.

The best sweetest little local yarn shop around

I purchased some merino yarn which I assumed was a solid grey. The skein showed no variations in dye. However, it turned out to be blotchy and parts looked like splatted India ink. I was not aware of this when I bought the yarn, so finished my product but still wish there had been a way to know that it wasnt a solid color.

Delightful shop, lots of choices foryarn and some very cute tools. Helpful staff and very careful of health considerations.

Welcoming atmosphere, warm, knowledgeable and helpful employees and all of the latest indie yarns make this my favorite store in the Portland area. Go and visit. You wont be disappointed.

I ran into a knitting mistake during a current project that I couldnt seem to fix on my own. I called Starlight and they told me to bring in my work so they could take a look at it. I went in within 30 minutes of my phone call and they fixed my mistake in a pinch! They were so incredibly gracious and kind. I will definitely be returning as a customer for all of my knitting needs. Thank you Starlight!

Very cute shop with a nice layout and lots of amazing yarn. I stopped in while I was in Woodstock with my kids and needed a couple of simple things for amigurumi. Nice youthful feel in there, but zero snooty hipster attitudes. The people there were super friendly and welcoming and there was even an adorable little nook for the kids to play in. I don’t live in that part of Portland, but would definitely go back for special yarn when I need it.

It is yarn crawl so the shop was packed. Even with the crowd challenges I could see this could easily be my next yarn place. I am absolutely heartbroken that Twisted may be closing. I knew I had to find another yarn home. This place will certainly fill the bill. Wonderful yarns, and friendly staff in a beautiful and comforting environment is just what I need.

I had a knitting emergency on a recent visit to PDX, and thankfully Starlight was open late for their stitch night. The staff went above and beyond to help me meet the needs I had, and even recommended a couple new favorite hand dyed yarns!

I just went in for some needles... a $142 dollar set of needles.Seriously, I love the yard selection and the friendly staff.

I took a beginners knitting class here to refresh my knitting and really loved it! I also ended up buying some new knitting needles and a couple of other odds and ends. Everyone who works here is super helpful and Id highly suggest their classes. :)

Friends and I visited this shop from out of town. We could have stayed all day! It is so inviting with so many wonderful and unique yarns. The store manager was super enthusiastic, knowledgeable and helpful. A knitters paradise! A bonus is the fabulous breakfast/brunch place across the street. Well be back!

This is the friendliest and most lovely yarn shop in town! Also my personal favorite even though it is father out for me than the other shops. They have a good selection of yarn, tools, and classes. Theyre very approachable with any questions and advice for future/current projects. I love this place!

Melissa has an incredible eye for detail and has filled the shop with light, color and warmth. There is an amazing selection of yarn, a cozy fireplace and lots of comfy places to settle in and get crafty! I truly cant say enough positive things about this place or the community that gathers within it.

Visiting from out of town and needed something to keep my hands busy during a roadtrip. The employee (/owner?) was super helpful and friendly, but was also more than willing to let me do my own thing for quite some time as I tried to decide. This shop is absolutely awesome. They have just the right amount of yarn at various price points and are so welcoming. The shop is so warm and inviting. You feel at home and want to sit and knit by their cozy fireplace. They also have free crafting nights on Wed and Thurs. The best part is that they will patiently help you when you get stuck with your projects. It is definitely a yarn shop you need to check out!

This space is magical. The people there are so knowledgable and welcoming, with a variety of products. I needed linen yarn fast, and they had exactly what I needed :)

I am a regular at Starlight. They have a large selection of yarns and supplies-they also have knowledgeable staff so if you come in with a problem in your project someone can usually help you if they are not too busy. They also have open knitting times where you and others can sit on comfy couches or chairs and work on your project with other knitters. They have a variety of classes and you can purchase specialized time with an experienced knitter if you are really having trouble.

Wow! This is the most lovely LYS I have ever seen. Airy and spacious, yet warm and cosy feeling. Plenty of room in the classroom space. Plus there is another casual seating area with a fireplace. Wonderful selection of needles and needle sets.

I have been consistently delighted with this charming shop! They have a cozy space full of incredibly well-curated yarn, including gorgeous skeins from hard-to-snag indie dyers. Today I became a member, because in addition to the selection they have amazing customer service! They are replacing a defective needle that I purchased elsewhere, and in much less time than it would otherwise take. As an additional bonis, they have a play nook for children, so parents can shop or sit and knit for a bit even when they have little ones in tow! Attention to details such as these will keep me coming back!

Sweetest yarn shop with the sweetest employees who really know their stuff. Melissa taught me and my two kids to knit right there by the fireplace. So convenient and cozy, its a place you want to hang out in, meet knitters of all experience levels, and be inspired by the gorgeous yarns!

Its not a surprise that the best yarn store to ever grace the streets of Portland (RIP Lint) has a new lease on life in SKS. They have consistently helpful staff, who engage in an authentic manner when warranted. But for those customers who desire solitude, the staff will also remain at the ready, but with polite distance for an enjoyable experience.

Good selection of high quality yarns! Lots of wool and alpaca blends, fun sock yarn, and great patterns. There is a couch and fireplace if you want to sit and knit.

Blown away. Full disclosure: I couldnt knit myself out of a circle of yarn. But I went to the opening of SKS with my wife and couldnt believe how lovely and inviting the space is, not to mention how beautiful were the vivid products on the (mostly hand-crafted) wooden shelves. Anyone whos into knitting really needs to see the place for themselves.

SKS features a very carefully curated selection of local, indie yarns (such as Spincycle) alongside larger national brands (such as Cascade and Plymouth). Its the perfect balance between luxury and everyday knitting. They offer many classes and workshops, from beginner to expert level. The knit night on Wednesdays from 6-9 is lively, welcoming, and always interesting!

Such a Luscious choice of yarns, the savvy knowledgeable staff, the cozy but spacious areas to take a class, sit and knit, or to visit with other crocheters-- whats not to Love?!!!
