Ryan, the Man, took care of me after a disaster experience with another uhaul in Maryland. He understood I had went through troubles and went out of his way to help me. I WILL return to this location because of Ryan.
Recently rented a small moving truck. Although everyone was busy, they took time to address my needs. Everyone was professional and willing to help. The location was clean and well organized. The van was in great shape, and clean.I would use them again without qiestion.

I’ve never experienced a worst business in my life. We arrived after driving an HOUR to pick up our U-Haul using the 24/7 rental app. They said we had to pick it up the next day because it had been inexplicably converted to a in-store pickup. We spent HOURS waiting for them on the phone.
We rented a truck in Portsmouth, NH on Tuesday (July 21st, 2020) and returned it the same day . My father-in-law received a voicemail from Ryan saying that he will call the police if we didnt return the vehicle. Someone isnt doing their job right...Update*** 08/17/2021***So my father-in-law realize they ban his account and are ignoring our calls. We wanted to know the reason for it. This is truly a case of racial profiling and Asian hate. We went down to Dover and asked how we can resolve this matter and one of the guy (who was very helpful) told us to call the president of the company. We called and left messages and he is clearly ignoring us.I would love to do a WMUR report on this and show their true color. The poster to call for help is a phony.
I needed a van quickly to pick up a couch in Manchester before the shop closed. The young man at the register was very professional and had me on my way in less than 10 minutes. The van was in great shape and my mission was accomplished. After hours turn in process was easy to complete.
Absolutely horrible service, complete waste of time when dealing with anyone that works the front desk. Will let you make a reservation and then not have the truck available.
Outstanding service by Ryan the manager. The fuel gauge was broken but the manager immediately rectified the situation by refunding me the cost of my fuel for my in-town rental. I received the truck on full and after 20 miles it read empty... I only used 44 miles and put in 10 gallons of fuel and so they compensated me by subtracting the money I spent on all the fuel. Good service and better than I expected.
I went to this Uhaul location to get a trailer hitch installed on my jeep. Jack, the hitch specialist, was accommodating and performed the required service thoroughly and faster than I expected. I had a wonderful experience!
I have literally never experienced worse customer service before. The employees are completely brain dead and “never know what you’re talking about” when you ask them a question. The customer service skills are non-existent with a sprinkle of attitude. There is obviously a lack of communication between the employees, as well as with the the manager. Unprofessional and unreliable u-haul location. Stay away.

Office Reeked of cigarette smoke. Manager failed to inform me of the savings renting round-trip vs. one-way. Wouldnt give me a 10 truck, I had to rent a 15 truck. Call center was very good, corrected the issue, but it took several calls over 2 weeks to get a refund.
Unprofessional and unpleasant experience. Avoid if possible. If you absolutely must use this location, demand to see all of their crazy policies (very different from other locations) in writing, and be prepared to call corporate office so that they can force this branch to adhere to U-Haul rules.
The folks over at the Portsmouth NH U-Haul where fantastic! The truck we reserved didnt come in on time, and they worked hard to try to get us what we needed. The general manager was excellent and quick thinking. Moving can be the worst, but they helped me and my family during this stressful event. I cant thank them enough.
Wow, my experience was excellent. Im from Maine and visited the store looking for a lot of information and help with truck issuues. The owner (who looked up promptly from his CRT even though he was busy on it) asked me what I needed and exceeded all my expectations in effort, courtesy and helpful advice.Maybe it sounds like Im a nephew or employee, but I had never seen nor known of this enterprise until yesterday when I walked in off the street and they did indeed treat me like family.I would recommend them to anybody.
Would be 0 stars if Google allowed that - they were an absolute nightmare to work with and the complete opposite of the U-Haul franchises we worked with in MA and Denver. My wife and I used the U-Box service for our move from Denver to NH and could not have been happier with the people on the Denver end...on the Portsmouth side? Horrible. They failed to inform us that we would be getting charged TWICE by a third party company to drop and pick up the box, this all instead of paying the original amount quoted us at the time of receiving the box. As for the customer service? Well the representatives/employees themselves were useless and had no answers and we were told each time we called not to worry the manager would call us back to answer our questions because “he wasn’t in”...that was 2.5 weeks and through calls ago yet we haven’t heard a peep from him. If moving any time soon I would strongly advise avoiding doing any business with this location! Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere.
Understaffed and slow service. Making an online reservation doesnt save any time or expedite the process. The only person working had NO personality. The 15 truck I received had 150,000 miles on it and was old and tired. It drank gas. Cost me $45.00 to refill the tank for a trip down to Boston and back to Portsmouth in a 15 van!!
I had a really hard week since our movers lied to us and completely bailed on us day of our trip (never use Mcloughlin / Mayflower movers by the way). We had an apartment and office full of things that needed to be out of the way by Monday and no one to take it. We discovered the U-Boxes and decided to use them and just do the heavy lifting ourselves. It was cheap enough and not nearly as difficult as I thought itd be.The real reason Im leaving this review is because Rick, someone I can only assume is the manager there, was unbelievably helpful during all this. He provided loads of insight, accommodated for us and was especially super kind in a very stressful time. He even went out of his way to ask if we needed help in ways that are definitely not expected of him by his employer. Im hoping this amazing work ethic does not go unnoticed and Rick continues climbing the company ladder. Thanks again!
Uhaul has been absolutely horrendous. Never use them. I know they have a monopoly on moving, but find other options! I rented and reserved it, it was all fine a well until I got there and they hadnt recieved the uhaul I had reserved when they were supposed to. Fine, that happens. Then they sent me to Portsmouth to get it. The Portsmouth uhaul told me that I received a phone call 72 hours in advance telling me that my uhaul would not be ready. How did that happen if Chris at this location didnt know until the day of? Then it turns out that I was supposed to have received phone calls that I didnt receive... just a whole mess. Well, I brought this situation to Lisa in the regional office (after I talked on chat with someone from uhaul and was told that I would recieve a full refund) and she informed me that $50 is the only refund that uhaul can give. So after me rental wasnt there (which is fine, thats an inconvenience) but then after the Rochester location (told me I could apply for more back afterwards) the Portsmouth location (who told me that I had received phantom phone calls from the regional office) and the woman on the chat from uhaul (telling me she had submitted a full refund request) all lied to me, Lisa told me that I would only receive $50 as an apology from Uhaul. Lisa then told me that these locations and people, and I quote, diverted the situation from themselves. That is a despicable business practice. Would I recommend this location? Absolutely not. Would I recommend uhaul? Absolutely not. Will I ever use uhaul again? No. Uhaul in this second experience I have ever had with them, will be my last resort in moving services. Do not ever rent from uhaul but specifically this location.
Do not use this place. Owner or managers wife is a complete nutjob. The wife of the guy on the right in the Google Maps pic above. Went insane on me today when I asked her to see if someone could fill my propane tanks. Certifiably insane. After waiting over 15 minutes at the propane fill station, having previously walked in for help also, I made a suggestion that maybe propane fills could have priority as they do at all other uhauls in the country. She lost her mind at that. Refused to fill the tanks and yelled at me. For a long time. Threatened to call the cops. Unreal. Sane employees came out after she went in and filled my tanks. Run, dont walk from here.
I went here for propane no help at the pump even rang the remote buzzer. When I walked in there there was 2 workers helping customers. An 1 woman sitting at a desk never said a word no hi or someone will be with you shortly out right rude. I waited awhile for propane and when I got it I had to wait again to pay. Never again Ill go there.
I got charged money for equipment ($10.00 for moving blankets) that I booked online. I did not receive said equipment with the truck... I was told at the register, that over a 1/2 tank of gas was in the truck. It was at 3/8ths, and I was expected to refill it before return at 5/8ths (which I did), that cost me $25 extra dollars, not including the gas or milage actually used during my move. I planned to have the truck for six hours, and had it returned in 5 1/2 hours. At that time, a man was inside the uhaul building, but the doors were locked and he ignored me. After I knocked and tried to get his attention, He did not open to great me at all. I then spent over 20 minutes, forced to sign up and into the uhaul website. Which required my email, phone, and other verifications (even though I had already provided that info, when I booked the equipment online in advance). The Uhaul prompt then required me to re-enter my credit card (which again, was confirmed when booked in advance online, and again at the store register at pick up), take and upload 5 pictures, and answer 10+ questions about the truck, all before my return of the vehicle was complete. I feel like if I got there only 10 minutes ahead of schedule, I would have ended up being charged for another hour... I dont know if this is a reflection of uhaul as a company. Or maybe its poor, misguided management. Either way its completely unacceptable, and I hope others are not getting ripped off as much as I feel I was.
Big selection of trucks and trailers. Friendly competent people. Have rented several times and good experience every time.
General Manager is awesome. Drove 3 hours the day before the move to get a truck for us because we changed our minds last minute.
My u-haul had a catatrophic explosion. When we called they told us we were lying to them.They are the liars I can assure you. My porcelain poodle Dixie was horrifically mutualated in the explosion.Needless to say that is just subpar service!-Doc Gumby

Josh the so called manager doesnt look like he wants his job and or likes his job and if so he needs to find a jobs he wants so the customers dont have to look at a miserable person who is rude all the time.
Customer service here is terrible. Never enough people on staff, nobody even answers the phone, and the highest storage rates in town. Have had my things here for several months and cannot wait to move to a better run facility.
By far the worst customer service i have ever received. Make an appointment for 1130am for a job quoted to be an hour and a half. At 2pm the van had not been touched. They do not value your time or business.
Bad customer service. I reserved a storage unit and they gave it away and wouldn’t make up for it in any way.
Terrible! Double charged us and you cant get in touch with these people! You have to go through call center. Worse than Comcast or time warner as far as customer service goes!!!!
Gave me misinformation about a lock I bought from them, ended up having to pay a locksmith 200 dollars to unlock my storage unit. Needless to say I am not very happy.
